Every time Andra Stone crosses paths with Everett Covington, trouble follows. First she loses her scholarship, then she loses the apartment she’d wanted more than anything. But tragedy hits hardest when she loses her grandmother—the best friend Andra has ever known. She determines that Everett is a talisman of ill fortune. When Everett comes to work in her hospital and is applying for the same position she’d been working toward since residency, Andra believes him to be her personal poltergeist.
The human heart has four chambers—four chances to get it right. Andra has only one chance left.
Julie Wright wrote her first book when she was fifteen. She's written over twenty novels since then. She is a Whitney Awards winner for best romance with her books Cross My Heart and Lies Jane Austen Told Me, The American Library Association listed “Glass Slippers, Ever After, and Me” in their 2020 top ten best romances and "A Captain for Caroline Gray" in their 2021 top ten best romances.
She has one husband, five kids, two grandbabies, one dog, and a varying amount of houseplants (depending on attrition).
She loves writing, reading, hiking, playing with her kids, and watching her husband make dinner.
The charm of this book is slaughtered by its structure. And the cover blurb. The book takes the "four" chambers thing very seriously, giving us four episodes in Andra's life, each separated by decades, possibly centuries. Okay, start to finish is something like fourteen years. I'll return to that...
Anyway, the thing is, these four sections show two people stupidly throwing away love. Which is tragic because I liked Andra and Everett (at first, anyway) and wanted them to be happy. So having Andra stomp on his heart repeatedly (and I don't care what the text claims, the third was her fault, too, for not even bothering to tell him what was happening in her life) didn't exactly endear me to her. Indeed, by the halfway point, I wanted Everett to get over her and find a nice girl, like maybe Liz, and forget about the idiot he "loved". The worst part of this is that the stupid cover blurb makes it clear that it's going to happen. So even as each section looks like they'll be happy, you know, because the cover blurb writer sucks, that they are doomed. So instead of enjoying the fun of two people falling in love, I had the dread of finding out how Andra was going to destroy Everett this time. Not exactly the feeling I enjoy in a romance.
So why finish it? Well, the writing didn't suck (despite some minor editing issues). And I liked both characters (if I ignore Andra's emotional constipation). I suppose that was enough to pull me through the dread of inevitable doom. By the end, though, I wasn't so much happy they were together as relieved to have reached the end. And all I could think was "she wasted fourteen years of her life's happiness because she's an emotionally constipated idiot.
So yeah, two stars. Hated the structure. Hated the repeated stupidity. Liked the characters. Mostly.
A note about missing religion: well, apparently this is going to be a thing for me (because I'm intrigued by the intersection of religion and chaste romances). This book didn't have the missing religion problem because it replaced the parts where the sex might have happened with Andra resetting the relationship back to zero. Note that this is not my preferred way to have chaste romances...
Oh my heart! I loved this one. I had dozens of things on my to-do list today. Reading this book was not one of them. I got nothing on my list done but I did get this book read. So all in all I have to say it was a good day. I love Julie's writing style. This story made me laugh and smile and swoon and tear up. This is a story full of hardheadedness and lack of communication which left me frustrated but on the flip side there was patience, perseverance and forgiveness. The characters are flawed but oh so likable. I fell in love with both main characters who despite coming from very dysfunctional families eventually found their happily ever after together.

Oh my goodness! I have never wanted to knock two characters heads together as much as I did while reading FOUR CHAMBERS. Once I started reading, I could not put this book down. I had to charge my Kindle Fire twice while reading.......it was just that good! I was smiling, tearing up, and screaming at the two of them the whole time and I loved every minute of it!
FOUR CHAMBERS is part of the Power of The Matchmaker series and the series just gets better and better with every book. Andra and Everett are both med students when the story starts off. If ever there were two people perfect for each other it's these two, but due to lack of communication, their paths keep crossing and nothing ever happens. See what I mean, about knocking heads?
FOUR CHAMBERS pulled me in instantly and I felt emotionally connected to Andra. How many times did she need to run away from Everett before she figures out that he is exactly what she needs? How many times does Everett have to keep coming back into Andra's life before they both realize they totally belong together? Miss Pearl, the matchmaker even loses patience with them and leaves. But she always comes back right when she needs to and when they need her the most.
The Power of The Matchmaker series is a wonderful series that I'm so excited to continue. You do not need to read the stories in any kind of order. Each book can be read as a stand alone if you wanted to do that but I'm sure once you read them, you are going to want to read them all just like me. FOUR CHAMBERS is filled with so many emotions you will be put instantly on an emotional roller coaster just like I was. Trust me, it is going to be a wild and crazy ride.
It's not a secret that I'm a fan of Julie Wright's books, and of course I was more than excited to read the next Power of the Matchmaker book. True to Julie's writing, I fell in love with the characters and read this book pretty much straight through. I knew going in that Andra was super stubborn and it would take "four" chances for her to finally listen to her heart. So I was pretty patient with her, although I did want to knock her on the head a few times. I loved the interaction between Andra and Everett and the voice of the story was witty & fun. I loved all the added touches of the Chinese proverbs, and the Swedish one thrown in for good measure :-)
I want to soak everything I just read in and digest it and then go back and reread it. This is a very emotional book from the MC's POV. Very well done and the writing was amazing. I love reading a story that pulls you in that you are able to so fully connect with the character(s) and their emotions and heartaches and triumphs. I honestly had several moments where I ached with and for Andra and even for Everett.
More thoughts to come!
Time for more thoughts from Julie. ;) Just Kidding. I feel like it's been forever since I started this review and I thought I could sit and type the rest up the next day but unfortunately life once again went a little haywire and I felt like I was a little(actually a lot) sideswiped so I just read and read and read and now have several books to try to catch up reviews on. Good thing I like writing and letting my rambling thoughts come out! Yay! My mind is a lot clearer and level headed this week than last that I think I can actually form some coherent sentences about these books. Ok enough of my rambling onto the review...
I've read and read and read so many books since I first discovered I could sound out words to make sentences and that that would bring stories to life in my mind. I usually connect at some level with the characters in the book that I'm reading. There are a few that I connect with so fully that it just leaves me feeling so immersed in the story. I'm sure I'm not the only reader who experiences that. Four Chambers was one of those books that pulled me in and I felt so emotionally connected to Andra. Another book that I love and is one of my absolute favorites that this one is on that same level for me was Running Barefoot by Amy Harmon. If you haven't read that one drop everything and read it now, or next on your list. I'm a music lover, almost fanatic, and that book was just amazing. I know I'm ranting about another book in this review but truly these two connected to me in a similar way that I had to put that one out there.
Andra and Everett are destined to be together but through so many ups and downs that happen in life they have pulled away from each other over and over again only to be brought back together over and over again. This is part of the Power of the Matchmaker series and so throughout you see the matchmaker trying to step in and work her magic. I loved those scenes with the matchmaker. I loved especially where, after another moment in life that is especially hard for Andra, the matchmaker tells her that she senses she is not ready but that she will be back when the time is right. Loved that scene. It rings so true. Sometimes we just aren't ready for certain things to happen in our lives, other times we are more than ready and have to be willing to choose that aspect.
Andra and Everett's family lives are hard and when they both see each other's families and realize that they have experienced similar struggles you watch them pull together more, only, yes to pull away again. My heart broke for Andra several times throughout this book. If you're looking for a light rom-com type novel this is definitely not it but don't let that cause you to shy away. This is so well written and the sweet romance, although heartbreaking at times is worth every minute spent reading this novel.
Both of the MCs are in med school wanting to become heart surgeons. They have so many struggles that pull them together. There were a few moments throughout that I honestly just wanted to shake Andra and tell her to stop, to let it go, and to embrace a life with Everett because then she would be able to reach her full potential. I hope I'm not spoiling anything for anyone telling you about all the back and forths...just read it and feel the beautiful heartfelt emotions throughout, happy and sad.
I think my absolute favorite aspect of this book was the friendship that Andra and Everett shared. They suffered through much, experienced much joy and through it all they remained friends and continued to increase that friendship that when all was said and done they were ready to move forward and truly be in love and love each other with their whole hearts knowing each other's flaws and perfections.
I'm excited to see what lies ahead for the other books in this series, which you can read as stand alones, as well as what other books Julie Wright has in store for us readers.
This is a clean read with some mild kisses. I'd recommend it for older teenagers and above.
I received a review copy in exchange for an honest review.
This is another fantastic addition to the Matchmaker series. Each book can stand alone and has a common, minor character--Pearl, the matchmaker.
This book is near and dear to my heart. Andra is a medical student with the goal of becoming a heart surgeon. Her path crosses multiple times along her journey with Everett, a fellow med student. And every time it does, trouble follows. My daughter has similar dreams and I could almost see her future unfolding as I read this book, which is one reason why it touched me so much.
Andra is a very committed, competitive, and determined woman. She will do whatever it takes to climb to the top. At times, she's almost ruthless, but she isn't heartless. Everett is very similar, yet he has a way of infusing fun into his quest for the top. Pearl has to work extra hard with these two, as they both have somewhat dysfunctional families and are workaholics.
This story immediately caught my attention and drew me in emotionally. I couldn't believe how invested I was in the ups and downs of these characters. I adored them, wanted to yell at them at times, and cheered in their successes. The characters, symbolism, and story line are all very powerful and are written in binding ways.
I would recommend this to those who enjoy this series or readers who love a good, emotional story.
Content: mild romance (kissing). Clean!

Poor Andra and Everett! They are so good together and good for each other, but fears and time consistently interfere in their budding relationship. I loved their college years together and that thrill of new love. Several years span the time between each reunion, and those later attempts are rife with angst. I appreciated that their confidence grew as they progressed in their respective medical careers, yet uncertainty in their personal lives keeps the tension building. Andra is so driven in her desire to be a top surgeon- I didn't relate to her priorities at all but it made her a fascinating character to read about! Everett is more balanced, but no less driven. The long time frame of their story slowed the pace for me overall but I was still invested in their romance and wishing for the happy ending they deserved.
(Thank you to Ebooks for Review for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review)
Four Chambers is a great addition to the Power of the Matchmaker series, its full of heart! hahaha, I couldn't resist the pun. Anyway, Andra has dreamed of being a heart surgeon her whole life and will not let anyone stand in her way. Even the one guy who has always been there for her, Everett. Their paths continue to cross since he also has a dream of being a surgeon.
Andra is dedicated, competitive and a workaholic. She is also kind and has a huge heart and genuinely cares about her patients and wanting to help them get better. She reminded me of that old Reese Witherspoon movie Just Like Heaven, where Reese's character was also dedicated, competitive and a total workaholic. I kept thinking Andra needed more balance in her life, her work life was everything, maybe that's just because we only really got to see her in that setting, but it left me wanting to see more sides of her then just the competitive workaholic. I did like Andra and thought she was interesting and even though I wanted to shake her a few times, I was rooting for her to get her happily ever after. I admired her dedication, I could never be that focused.
I loved Everett, I thought he was awesome and so full of patience. One of the things I really enjoyed about the book was how it took place over such a long time span, kinda like When Harry Met Sally, maybe it just took the timing to be right before these two could work things out.
I was a little confused at the end, for one thing I need an epilogue!
I adore Miss Pearl, I was waiting for her to show up in this one and was so happy when she did. Her character, personality and everything is consistant with each book, its fun to see how each of these authors works her into their own unique story and I love how this character ties all the books together. Such a fun and unique series.
Overall, I really did enjoy this one and the characters, a nice heartwarming story.
Content Romance: Squeaky clean Language: None Violence: None Religious: None Series: Power of the Matchmaker, can stand alone
There were so many little things I loved about this book. First, I love the cover. Second, I love that each page inside the printed book has squiggles and then a heart around the page number. I loved the proverbs at the beginning of each new section of which there were four after the four chambers of the heart. For me, it was these little things that made me smile and fall in love with the whole of this book.
This book is part of the Power of the Matchmaker series, but can stand alone easily. Each book in this series is written by a different author with one minor character, Pearl, included in all the books. Pearl's story is the prelude to this series and I would recommend reading it prior to any books in this series. I have loved all the books in this series so far. I have two more sitting on my kindle waiting for me which is something to look forward to!
This book was such a journey. The span of time from beginning to end is years- over a decade. Andra and Everett are an on again, off again kind of couple. They are drawn to each other and fall in love but usually Andra puts an end to it for one reason or another. Actually, she usually just runs away. Sometimes Andra was just frustrating and I wanted to shake her but then those endearing moments popped up and I knew I couldn't stay annoyed for too long.
I was drawn into this book immediately and putting it down was difficult. Because of the on again, off again nature of this book, I was almost desperate to get to the end to see if and how they finally came together. There was a definite pull to the story and the characters and I really loved it!

* I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I also bought a physical copy of this book which is actually the one I read.
Of course I love this story . . . I wrote it! And the honest truth is that if an author doesn't love their story, then spending all those hours creating those characters would be like eternal detention with the worst teacher ever. Andra and Everett had my heart from the beginning. I really wish they were real so I could go on double dates with them.
Andra and Everett have been study buddy's and competition for each other since pre-med. They compliment each other but have a long drawn out history. Their story lines are intertwined, they have been there for pivotal moments of each other's lives. Through all of it there has always been a bond of friendship that has bolstered them.
Andra is working to be a heart surgeon. The heart has four chambers. Two receive and two pump out. The chambers can represent the relationship between Andra and Everett. They receive and they give to each other. But they have pride and the drive to succeed that come between them on multiple occasions. It will take all four chambers to work together in order for them to come together. In this case, the fourth time is the charm?
This is another book from the Power of the Matchmaker Series. Each of them stands alone, but when all of them are read, it creates a whole picture of Pearl, the Matchmaker. She has a magical way of bringing couples together. It's nice to think of someone there cheering on couples and helping them find each other.
The book was frustrating for me at times because the characters knew what they wanted, but they let unimportant things get in the way. It took YEARS from the time they met until they were ready to move into the relationship that the reader knew was best for them. I loved the concern and care they had for people around them and the children that were their patients. The kindness and compassion for each other could have been a little better.
FOUR CHAMBERS was fun and sweet with a little heartbreak thrown in. With a heroine set against getting tangled up in love, a guy who can't seem to give her up, and the Matchmaker, Miss Pearl, adding her magic to the mix, this was unique and engaging from the first page. Perfect for readers who enjoy romance!
I liked that this wasn't your usual heroine and hero. You have two med students who are trying to make it in the same field, and a tough one at that. They understood how hard the career path was and the focus required, which meant they understood a whole lot about each other. Andra was stubborn and had tunnel vision sometimes, but was also trying to prove herself. I liked her voice, her compassion, and her intelligence even when she couldn't see what was in front of her. Then there was Everett. He's a great leading man, even if I wanted him to forge forward when he wasn't sure about Andra. He gets Andra even when she doesn't get herself. He's so supportive, a fantastic doctor, and an overall great guy. I loved their camaraderie and what old, sure friends they really were. I also loved that they complimented each other. Miss Pearl played her role well. She's such a great part of this series. I liked the other side characters as well.
I really enjoyed that this wasn't a story where two people fall in love over a short period of time and find happily-ever-after. I like those stories too as long as they're well developed, but it's nice to have a mix of circumstances. Of course they do fall in love (this is a love story, so it's expected), but there were obstacles and everything didn't just magically fall into place. I liked how the story evolved and seeing how the characters dealt with all that. Then the ending... *sigh* Just super sweet.
In the end, was it what I wished for? Yes. I've really been enjoying this series (Power of the Matchmaker) and this was really enjoyable with some good humor, depth, complex characters, and a happily-ever-after romance.
Content: Clean Source: Received a complimentary copy through ebooksforreview.com, which did not affect my review in any way.
I loved this book but it was frustrating at times! It starts when Andra and Everett are both med students. I loved how their relationship was progressing and was happy for them but the book had just started and the matchmaker, Ms. Pearl, hadn't come into the picture so I started preparing for something to come between them. I quickly realized they were going to have four chances to get together, which helped my frustration level somewhat.
This book takes place over several years and many meetings between the main characters. I loved Ms. Pearl's role--she would appear, then disappear and reappear many years later with them. She had her hands full with these two! Everett was easy to like right away. He was always there for Andra, no matter how she treated him. Andra was a little more difficult for me to like. They were both driven but Everett was more fun and pride came between them several times. Some of their misunderstandings over the years could have been cleared up with one simple phone call. They both came from dysfunctional families which also helped strengthen the bond between them.
Once I started reading their story, I had a hard time putting it down and enjoyed it from beginning to end! They had cute nicknames for each other and I was always interested to see how they would meet up again and which direction their relationship would go. It's a wonderful addition to the Matchmaker series and, like all the other books, can be read on its own. I'm glad there are still lots of books left in this series and am looking forward to reading the next one!
I received a copy via eBooks for Review for an honest review. My opinion is 100% my own.
Andra and Everett are two people that belong together, but have a very hard time figuring it out. I love that there's someone that keeps bringing them back together. Miss Pearl rocks! I love that it's clean with no swearing.
This was by far my favorite of the Power of the Matchmaker series. Although most of the time I was throwing my hands up in the air, on again, off again, on, off...It was really good.
Friends becoming lovers over a period of many years using up second and third chances.
I hated the heroine and pitied the hero for most of this book, but in the end I loved that the author managed to pull all my heartstrings into rooting for team Evs all the way.
This is the first book I've read by this author and the fourth book in an - I guess, because this book reads very well as a stand-alone - loosely connected series. L
This book: - reads like a YA/NA coming of age (it's also 'clean', so if you want a spicy sexy hot read, don't read this); - is a friends turning lovers with second and third chances and some setbacks over a period of some 15 years; - has a hero and heroine making choices/mistakes with regard to love and feelings we all made or will make in our lives; - is like reading the first seasons of Greys anatomy (it's actually set in a hospital for half the book and I really liked those first seasons); - builds up an amazing amount of tension that had my heart rate rise to unhealthy levels for most of the time it took to finish this book (rooting for Everett); - contains a quirky Chinese matchmaker that apparently is the binding character in this series; - has some great life wisdoms in fitting places like 'life is made up of millions of little moments, but there are actually only a few that are actually worth a million' and actually manages to show those moments instead of only telling about them; - is set in first person POV from the heroine, which I didn't mind at all. The amazing tension made all thinking redundant anyway. I just wanted to keep reading so my heart rate could finally slow down again. - has a very sweet ending.
What could have been better? - The characterization I guess could have been better. The heroine did feel like 20 years old throughout the book, but because we mainly see her in uncomfortable situations and at those times nobody is at their most mature, I forgave the author for that. - There’s no epilogue and, while I believe they're going to be happy ever after, I would have liked to have it confirmed. (I love epilogues)
I'm really glad I finished this today on a Sunday so I wouldn't have had to stay up all night finishing this.
My rating? I've thought briefly of giving this a five star rating, but then decided to go for the four stars instead so I can keep the five stars for masterpieces. I liked this book a lot and I hope my four star rating will send a message to readers to give this book a try.
***I received an ARC from the author via ebooksforreview.com in exchange for an honest review. ***
I received this book for review and I am so glad I did. I have not read any of Julie Wright's books but now I am going to. This was a sweet story and even though it was pretty predictable I loved it. It totally captured my heart and mind while I was reading it. I love the story line that relates to the fact that she is working to become a heart doctor and how she ignores her heart and doesn't listen multiple times. The title is very catching and very descriptive all in one.
Andra is certainly a strong will, overachiever who also has a huge heart for people and loves being/becoming a doctor and taking care of people. Andra and Everett both have crazy families which helps to see where some of their characteristics come from. I often wanted to grab both characters and knock some sense into them but of course watching their story unfold was funny, crazy, loving, and fun to read about. I love that their story unfolds over years and their friendship develops and becomes stronger. Miss Pearl and the Chinese proverbs and a Sweden Proverbs makes the story interesting and heartwarming. Miss Pearl tries her hardest to get Andra and Everett to both examine their hearts but they would only look at life through rose colored glasses.
This book is funny and heart warming at the same time. It is the story of love and forgiveness. I have included some of my favorite quotes from the book below. "Love itself is calm. It is the individuals in love who cause the turbulence."
"Hardly anyone ever mentions the third option of adrenaline - the kind that actually affects most people and animals. It is not flight. It is not fight. It is fright."
"You need a man before the hours of this place grays your head and wrinkles that cute face of yours so you look like a moldy apple someone left in the break room."
"I just wish that hope was something you could wrap up in shiny paper and tie off with a bow. I wish hope was as easy to give as a stuffed bear."
Andra and Everett are friends. They have this cute little thing they do to address each other, and even though it is a little silly, it is quite endearing. At the beginning of the book, Andra has just had her heart broken (or so she thinks) by Everett’s roommate. So naturally she is spray painting Tool on his truck. Everett can’t agree more with her, and wants to help. This is the start of their very intense, back and forth relationship. I loved this book. I would have to say this is my favorite one published so far. That being said, in July Taylor Dean’s book releases, and that one is the absolute best one I have read, but this one is a very close second. I loved the feel of this book. Andra is fun, full of spunk, a person who knows what she wants, ready to work for it and go get it. I can relate to that. Everett is that nice, fall in love forever kind of guy. The one you can just never quite get over. So the fact that this book covers about 15 years and you see them both not quite over each other makes utter sense. I did not realize the whole time span as I started reading this book, and when the second chamber closed off and moved forward many years I was left reeling. I actually started ranting out loud, my husband thought something had gone terribly wrong. It had, for me, in my little world that sucked me up and had me reading, devouring and losing myself in this book. It took me about a day and a night to get through it, I was sucked right into it. It was nice to loose myself to this story, and feel along with Andra an Everett. This is the first Julie Wright book for me, but I look forward to checking out more of her books in the future. What a great discovery for me :)
I received a copy in exchange for a fair and honest review. Loved this book! I really enjoyed Andra and Everett's story. Everett was a good guy, Andra was a good person, and their connection was lovely! Their determination, dedication, kindnesses, emotions, hard work to achieve their goals, and most importantly their hope in finding the person that resonated with their being and kept them from making a commitment to someone they didn't truly care for. It took a long time. I wondered re Pearl too, as some others have written re why she didn't show up sooner. However that being said, this was still a wonderful story. Family dynamics, missed opportunities, anguish, tender feelings, the 'magic', the kiss. This is probably one of my favorites in this series so far. The characters were so genuine, honest, and with heart-felt emotions. I think the only thing I would have wished for is a longer last scene. Something that made it feel like all the angst and agony over the course of so many years was more than them just getting together in 2 pages. Great story if you love HEA! Loved the four sections that were part of the book, just like the hearts they were trying to save with medical procedures.

Every time Andra Stone crosses paths with Everett Covington, trouble follows. First she loses her scholarship, then she loses the apartment she’d wanted more than anything. But tragedy hits hardest when she loses her grandmother—the best friend Andra has ever known. When Everett comes to work in her hospital and is applying for the same position she’d been working toward since residency, Andra believes him to be her personal poltergeist. The human heart has four chambers—four chances to get it right. Andra has only one chance left.
Call me slow, but I was so frustrated that Andra couldn't figure it out sooner. I didn't want it to take 4 times to get it together! Miss Pearl tries so hard to get her to open her eyes about what was truly in front of her all along. I love Everett's personality. He seems like the kind of character that I would want to be friends with. Andra was a little harder for me to like, but she grew on me. I loved that both were able to overcome their family relationships to become the people they wanted to be. Overall, a cute addition to the matchmaker series--which do not have to be read in any specific order. I really like that about them. They all feature Miss Pearl, but not the characters from other stories!
Miss Pearl makes her appearance in this book a little later into the story, yes I was awaiting her appearance, but she is here and doing her magic, or was she? Andra Stone is a girl with a mission; she wants to become a heart surgeon, just like her father, but without her families support. Her life is studying, she places learning above anything, she has no time to socialize or date. As the story opens we find that she has let her guard down, but being cheated on and acting out about it, will have devastating consequences for her. The only good thing to come out of her actions is finding Everett, Everest without the “S”, and a roller coaster relationship that lasts years. We find Everett has the same goals as our Andra, or Andrea without and “E”, but we also see him letting her down. Both seem to come from dysfunctional families, but each also has members that you are going to love. Another good addition to the Power of the Matchmaker series! I received this book through Inspired Kathy, and was not required to give a positive review.
I received this ebook through ebooksforreview in exchange for an honest review.
This is the fifth book in the Power of the Matchmaker series and the fourth I read. Each book features a common character, Miss Pearl, but they all can be read as stand-alone and in any order.
So far, there is only one book in the series that I didn’t like as much as the others and this one isn’t it. Four Chambers is a really good book and shows the evolution of Andra and Everett’s relationship over the years. I’m not one who normally cares for books’ timeline covering such a big period of time, but this one was very well done! I didn’t feel like I was missing big chunks of the character’s life because what happened between chapters was well summarized.
The only downside for me was that the end seemed a little bit rushed. But other than that I really enjoyed it. Also Miss Pearl’s role might seem smaller than in the two first books in the series, but for me she was still very much part of the matchmaking process!
Looking forward to reading the rest of this series!
Wow! This contemporary romance tugged at my heartstrings…quite literally. The hero and heroine are both med students working their way to becoming heart surgeons. The love story starts out with a bang…or rather with spray paint. I wanted to cry over and over again as the four chambers of my heart were put through a workout as the two characters balked at love each time they reunited. This story took place over a lot of years…so there was a lot of heartache and misery to wade through waiting for them to get their hearts in sync so they could see each other for who they really were. I really loved it. My heart got pulled all over the place, but so did Andra’s and Everet’s (So I guess we’re even). This was another story in the Matchmaker series, but it’s a stand-alone book. The only tying factor is the Matchmaker who pops into each story no matter time or place. She’s wonderful in this one. I highly recommend this story! It’s one I’ll reread in the future.
These books are part of a series with only one character being in all of them. Ms Pearl. She is a matchmaker. I think I look more forward to seeing what she will be in each story. In this one, she becomes an administrative Doctor. She calls herself a Doctor of the heart. If only everyone knew the difference. She says she heals people's hearts. Love it!
This story was more sad as it spans over many years with Andra and Everett being off and on a a couple. It was hard to see them both basically miserable over each other. Neither was ready for love and commitment with Medical School and all that encompasses becoming a Surgeon.
I knew it would be a HEA but it was heartbreaking to read their struggles to get there. The struggles over so long kind of depressed me and that's why I only gave three stars.
I have an issue was the medical errors. I am a hospital nurse and some of the terms are old terms that aren't used anymore for good reasons. It may not bother you though!!
If this was a story about baseball, Everett and Andra would have struck out after three times. But because it was a story about two college students who went on to medical school and on to become pediatric heart physicians, they kept getting more chances! Poor Miss Pearl had her work cut out with these two... She had to leave to work on other "cases" and then come back to the two of them when their paths crossed yet again!
I loved both Everett and Andra - they both came from dysfunctional families and yet they were so kind and giving and compassionate. They just kept making mistakes when it came to each other. When you keep meeting the same girl/guy over again it's hard not to believe in fate! But with fate and Miss Pearl on their side they kept getting another chance!

I've really enjoyed reading the books in the Power of the Matchmaker series and seeing the different ways that the authors incorporate Miss Pearl into the story. This was a wonderful story about two people being placed in each other's paths multiple times over many years. Not just a second chance story -- more like a third or fourth chance. There were some misunderstandings and both characters could have reacted better in certain situations, but that makes it all the more realistic. I appreciated how they both came from dysfunctional families and yet worked to over come that. I loved both characters and the way they always cheered each other on even when they were competing. I received a free e-book copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I read this book in one day. I started reading and could not put it down. I loved Everett. He was so kind and most of the time patient with Andra. Andra always blamed him for the bad things that happened but never noticed the good he brought with him. She was so afraid to be sidetracked from her goal of pediatric heart surgeon. Pearl showed up quite a bit in this book and definitely had to work the hardest she has had to in any of the books I have read so far. I liked Andra more when she stood up to Everett's mother and sister. Andra and Everett are great together and through out the book you cheer for them to be together and sigh in frustration when things happened that split them apart over and over. I enjoyed reading this book and would highly recommend it to others.
This was an enjoyable, well-written story. I laughed at the beginning, and knew right off, that I liked Everett. These two had quite the rocky road, but it was all good. Andra "Andrea without the E" and Everett "Everest without the S" were a great pair. I liked Doctor Miss Pearl, and her, well, helpfulness. I appreciate these matchmaker stories, and l like how the matchmaker sort of interferes without exactly intruding. She just gives them a little nudge, or two, or three, and they come to figure things out for themselves! Julie Wright is a great author, and I look forward to more of her books!
What a fantastic story of love, heartache, forgiveness, and most of all timing. The story is anything but predictable with twists in the character's relationships that make you want to scream, shout, cry, and laugh. I loved the report between the Andra and Everett. Every event that shook them apart and brought them together made me better understand the role timing has in every relationship and it made the ending so much more valuable to me as a reader. I also appreciated how the characters never gave in to melancholy or brooding when they were faced with obstacles, but they continued on, striving for their goals. Well done, Julie Wright!!! Fantastic story. Excellent read.
