Dante's Circle #7

Prowled Darkness

Rate this book
Eliana Sawyer’s life was rocked from its foundation twice in as many years. She risked her heart and had it shattered into a thousand pieces when Malik left her with no warning. While she’d normally raise her chin and ignore the pain, she can’t forget what he gave her before he disappeared from her life.
Malik Ward is a prince amongst the lion shifters and knows that one day he will have to take a mate. Only, his people can never mate with humans. Under the mistaken impression that Eliana was only human, he forced himself to leave before they’d crossed a line and he broke his vow to his people. Now that he knows the truth about Eliana, however, it will take more than groveling to win back the one woman fated to be his.
While Eliana and Malik embark on a new sensuous path that might lead to disaster, the realms aren’t ready to allow the final lightning-struck human to be enveloped into their fold. The couple will have to combat those plotting against them, as well as the broken promises and heated emotions they share.

☆ I received an ARC via the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you! ☆

3.5 stars!!

In entirety, this read was just okay in my book. For me, everything felt rushed, the writing was ehhh??- and I kind of wished certain things were expanded a bit more. I'm not saying that I was dissatisfied in the execution of everything. I wasn't. I just would have liked things to slow down and to have seen both Malik and Eliana's characters more fleshed out and see them individually and as a couple grow.

The supernatural twist to this plot line was interesting~~ what with what Eliana's supernatural animal is and how it now plays a factor with her not being a lioness and mated to the next in line to the lion throne. Not to mention, a cute revelation revealed at the very beginning of the book and how it changes up the dynamics for both characters.

I won't go into more details of the story. It was all around a fun and sexy read about love, family, friendship, second chances, taking what's yours and claiming your place, and expecting the unexpected in the supernatural world.

Not bad, not bad. :)

I've loved the Dante's Circle books from the very beginning when a certain Angel started moulting ! Recently though the author seems to have stepped away from paranormal tales so it was with great satisfaction that I began this book. It took me back to the beginning when the friends were all struck by magical lightening awakening all sorts of delicious things . Eliana seemed to be the only one for whom a happy ending seemed just a distant dream. Deserted by Malik the man she loves, heavily pregnant and knowing that a destiny she could have embraced will never happen .
I waited so long for this and if frank feel a little cheated. It's just so much shorter than I wanted. Eliana and Malik were just such star crossed lovers , both believing the other to be an ordinary human. Malik hid his shifter side and fiercely felt a sense of duty to his people but had no idea Eliana had the capacity to become his mate . Eliana knew she could change and become something amazing if she mated with someone paranormal but her heart cries out for Malik. Now Malik is back and he's an insufferable arrogant fool who expects Eliana to forgive and forget oh and mate him of course ! Well it is a romance and pregnancy hormones were clearly at work because Eliana wants Malik and alls forgiven. Slight problem though as not everyone wants a happy ending for the couple.
I do like the story even though I wanted to attack Malik with a blunt object initially . What I didn't like was the pace. Everything seemed so quick, touch my kindle and it's the next page and we're moving on! The couple seemed to resolve their problems too easily and I felt they deserved more. There is a plot running through but perhaps not as high octane as previous books. I'm glad there's a happy ending for this new family but can't help thinking perhaps this book was a little rushed .
I was gifted an arc in exchange for an honest review

Aaaand as always, there's never enough groveling for forgiveness in these second chance romance novels -_-

I think I'm going to have to write my own SCR, where the H is left wanting, groveling and strung along, almost through the entire story, until the climax!

I love this series unfortunately this is the last book in this series, I'm hoping that the author will write a spin-off from this series featuring the children of all our characters from this series

The stunning conclusion to this highly entertaining paranormal UF series!

“He wouldn't grovel, wouldn't fall to his knees and beg forgiveness. He was the son of the Leo, the King of all lions. He would, one day soon, be the Leo and reign over his people. He couldn't fall for her more than he already had, but he could hope she could see how he felt.

Because if she didn't, he wasn't sure what he would do next.”

PROWLED DARKNESS by Carrie Ann Ryan is a totally awesome finale to the author's addictive Dante's Circle series! I've been dying to read lightning-struck-human Eliana Sawyer's and lion-shifter Malik Ward's story since the last book which had left them both in a lurch and am thrilled to report that it's a very satisfying roller-coaster ride chock-full of surprising twists and turns.

PROWLED DARKNESS is the seventh book in the series, but it could be enjoyed as a standalone, if that is your preference. That said, I would recommend that you read the first book, DUST OF MY WINGS, beforehand, as it sets the stage for all the books.

In a nutshell, in the author's Dante's Circle world, all humans have a hidden supernatural trait. Over time, that trait has weakened and no longer manifests. Then... seven friends are struck by magical gods-sent lightning while having drinks in a bar. The lightning-struck humans find that, when they fall in love with their fated supernatural mates, their own supernatural trait comes to the forefront in a stunning metamorphosis. PROWLED DARKNESS is the story of the last lightning-struck human. Eliana Sawyer has had the misfortune of falling in love with Malik, who she believes to be human.

Malik has walked away from Eliana as he is a lion destined to be king. Despite his deep feelings for Eliana, he cannot mate with her as she is a human. Because he is royal, he has to mate with another supernatural.

Oh my! Oh my! Oh my! Ignorance is not bliss with this couple as each believed the other to be human. AND that's just the tip of the iceberg of the obstacles in their way. But, with their attraction burning so hot and steamy, I held out hope that love would find a way!

Carrie's writing is addictive and highly entertaining. The world and the spectacular array of characters the author has created are nothing short of incredible. The story kept me riveted from the first sentence to the last. If you are a fan of top-notch, highly original paranormal urban fantasy romances with intense set-your-sheets-on-fire chemistry and copious amounts of danger and action sequences, PROWLED DARKNESS is right up your alley!

Prowled Darkness (Dante's Circle, #7) by Carrie Ann Ryan Carrie Ann Ryan’s Prowled Darkness is an excellent conclusion to the Dante's Circle Series.  Lion shifter and next in line for the throne, Malik Ward, left the woman he loved thinking she was human, and that they were unable to be together. Eliana Sawyer was lightning-struck, a human hit by lightning, which will trigger her dormant supernatural DNA once claimed by her mate.  The man she loves and thought was human left her before she could tell him that she was pregnant.  This contemporary PNR is suitable for adults.

Prowled Darkness begins with Malik’s return to Dante’s circle after discovering that Eliana is lightning-struck.  From the first page, the story is attention-grabbing and exciting.  I love how Eliana’s friends and their mates all looked out for her when she was on her own.  They are very protective of her and do not want to see her hurt.  I enjoyed the plot.  It moved fast and was gripping.  A lot of things happened in a short amount of time.  I love which supernatural being Eliana winded up being.  It was very appropriate. I like Malik.  He was in a difficult position.  The two truly love each other and are a great couple.  Malik’s aunt and uncle make good antagonist.  They want the throne that rightfully belongs to Malik.  I enjoyed the ending. It was smart to have the last scene at Dante’s Circle.  It concluded the series well.

Lions, oh sweet bossy, self-absorbed Lions, you put all other shifters to shame! Call me prejudiced, but I love the Lion shifters like no others. There is something so....... and then they are such...... just perfect cats in every way, easy to see how they are the Kings of the Wild. I was so extra excited to have a Lion on the cover, it made perfect sense to end the series with one

This story made me cry, it made me mad and it made me squirm. Eliana, she refuses to feel sorry for herself, but she a much more raw deal out of the seven. She was last, she had a unique mate, and she shifted into a little being. She lost, found, and was thrown into the middle of things without any time to adjust, prepare or plan

Malik was perfect for her, and having read back-to-back with the previous book, his actions were fresh. He was very confused but Eliana helped him out with that, she is his base and rock. The end, oh the end, during the battle, Malik, oh my, oh my

While I am sad to have the series end, it was my first and favourite from the authour, this was a perfect ending to the series. Even without the epilogue, this story and these two, I'm glad they were saved until the end!

ARC REVIEW

Such a bittersweet end. I'm glad everyone has had their HEA but it' so sad to see it end. From the first book to the last there have been babies and death the collapse of the ruling system and lots and lots of sex. This is one series that has kept me captivated from the very beginning. Carrie Ann created a cast of characters so different and unique from each other but above all they are sisters in bond even more so after the lighting strike.

Elena thought Malik was human, and Malik thought Elena was human. Well about nine months after Malik ripped out Elena's heart, as well as his own, by breaking up with her he has come back and never expected to find out that she was one of the lighting stuck women. But now that he knows and he is willing to risk everything to make her his own. Even if it means a possible civil war among his kind.

Such an ending, it's so hard to say good-bye even if they are fictional characters.

Wonderful Ending

Dante's Circle has been one of my most favorite series. Saying goodbye is difficult, but this story made it easier. Eliana and Malik got their happy ever after, even though I wasn't so sure that it was going to happen. Carrie Ann Ryan never lets her characters off easy. They're dragged through hell, but the strength they have always brings them through the other side. Though I'm sad to see these characters go, I'm excited to see what Ms. Ryan has in store for us next.

Finishing this book was both awesome and bittersweet! I loved the story but was sad to know that this was the last lightening struck to find her other half. And when she turned into a...oops, don't want to spoil it! If you haven't read the rest of the series, you definitely should:)

And Done.

To be honest I can't remember much of this novel. It hasn't been that long since I read it but I only remember bits and pieces. Eliana's story was set up in the last book. She was dating a lion shifter (but she didn't know) and he was dating a lightning-struck (and he didn't know). That is the basis of the story.

Malic, a lion shifter, leaves Eliana thinking she is just a mortal and so that he cannot bond to her. Eliana was pretty sure she was falling in love with him and then he dropped her flat. But they had obviously had sex because she is pregnant. That's when the first twist comes in. Lion shifters get to choose their true halves so this mess could have been avoided if only they had known the truth about one another. What confused me was that they had mutual acquaintances and somehow this took almost 8 months to clear up.

There is some Halmet/Lion King, evil uncle lion plot happening as well. But a lot of it didn't penetrate in a meaningful way.

I'm going to say that burn out on the series played a factor in in my ambivalence towards this last book. I'm sad to end the series with this kind of non-feeling. But there were two books in the series that I did really enjoy so for that is a positive.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I LOVE THIS AUTHOR!!
Prowled Darkness delivers on longing, heartbreak, and second chances. Eliana and Malik’s story brings the series to a close with high drama, sharp pain, and deeply satisfying love. Malik’s lion-shifter nobility clashes perfectly with Eliana’s quiet strength. There’s a rich emotional payoff and a full-circle feeling to their romance that makes their journey feel well-earned.

I have had these books for I do not know how long and finally decided to read them. Wow, what I was missing out on. They are entertaining and very easy to read. At times I felt like I was there with the characters trying to help in situations. Laughing was also a part of my reaction. Great paranormal love stories.

Whats up with royals? Alpha males not good enough now they had to have more titles? Well I guess it gives more issues.

I liked this short book. Made up for #6 and it closed the series nicely. Still felt lacking in some ways probably due to the shortness of it.

Eliana's forgiveness of Malik came too quick I think. He not only left her because she was "human", but he abandoned all of his ties to the human world when he did so. But the heart wants what the heart wants, and having another reason to fall back in love didn't hurt.

I was so sad to see this series come to a close, and I feel like there were some loose ends with the Conclave that I would’ve liked tied up. But like the 6th book, this one felt a little rushed.

“Prowled Darkness” is the final book in the paranormal romance series “Dante’s Circle “. A series the story of seven lightening-struck human women because of the will of the Conclave, in attempt to awaken latent supernatural genes in their DNA, and after all that of they find their mates among supernatural creatures.

Their lives changed, as well as their nature. The lightning-struck gave the birth of unimaginable creatures, very different from women they used to be, but this took them toward a new destiny, giving them a real new family, thanks their bonding with their mates and friends from the Dante’s Circle. Their stories wasn’t always easy, least of all the one between Malik and Eliana.

From the previous book I guessed their story wouldn’t have been a bed of roses. Malik is a lion shifter, he’s going to become the future King of his race and to do so he must comply with most of the rules his people require from him, and finding his mate, the future queen, among humans is a taboo. Compared to all the other supernatural creatures lions shifters are different, they choose their mate, it isn’t only fate, and between Malik and Eliana, so many things left unsaid, unrevealed secrets, have created a situation that could turn them away forever.

Everyone knew the truth except those directly concerned, and things went to hell… Eliana believed Malik human and therefore not her mate, and she thought he couldn’t turn her into an immortal as the other lightning-struck women. Malik thought Eliana was only human and being stubborn he didn’t listen his lion instincts, the beast wanted her next, but he left her abruptly and badly, disappearing from circulation.

I was so mad with him, if only he’d talked with his friends, without being so “Lion-know-it-all” things could be better, a lot better. Eliana wasn’t only human, and she’s got pregnant without being able to say anything to him before he disappeared.

Then mea culpa and tail between his legs weren’t enough… Rightly upon his return Malik risked the lynching by all his friends, with their mates there not to buy the ticket for the show, but ready to go after him properly at the slightest mention of Eliane.

I liked the fact Eliana stayed strong on her position and she tried to make understand Malik the enormity of what he had done, and especially what was lost to him in all those months of his absence. And what worse punishment for a shapeshifter if not to find out he had not been by the side of his partner when she was so vulnerable because of the pregnancy, and especially having lost all the wonders of that time.

I felt a little better with myself seeing a Malik so lost, full of guilt and without control over his emotions when he found out all the news. And Eliana was truly an exceptional woman and so funny when she spoke her mind.

The birth of the cub was just the beginning of their story and they found in their way a lot of problems. The succession to the throne for Malik is full of pitfalls and dangers, a real fight between him and his uncle, who want to take power and become the Leo. And then finally when is revealed the true nature of Eliana, who became an extraordinary creature, but despite her new immortality, she was vulnerable, and a new torment for Malik.

Despite the presence of everyone from the Dante’s Circle series , “Prowled Darkness” is focused a lot on Malik and Eliana, while I expected something more about everyone else … I missed a real conclusion for their group.

I loved the book is a nice read, especially thanks to the dialogues full of humour in the story. It’s one of the things I love most about this author as well her imagination so vivid when it comes to paranormal romance fiction.

Please Forgive Me!!!

Malik Ward was a lion shifter prince, he knew that he would have to take a mate one day. He was dating one of the lightning struck women, Eliana Sawyer but broke both of their hearts when he broke up with her.

Malik thought that Eliana was a human, and given that his people can never mate with humans. He walked away from the one one woman, he and his lion ever truly wanted. What a man to do when he realized, he was wrong?...What else but FIGHT for his woman.

Eliana Sawyer one of the seven lightning struck women had been dating, Malik Ward a lion shifter. Only she didn't know that at the time, she assumed he was a human and thought he was her mate. She couldn't be more right.

Out of the blue, Malik ripped her heart out of her chest and walked all over it. Even though she was mad at him, Eliana was grateful for the blessing Malik left her. She had to change her plans and with the help of her friends, Eliana still felt lonely.

Malik walked back into Eliana's life and got the shock of his life, his lion knew ahe was their mate and had chosen her....but the man didn't catch on until it was nearly to late. Malik hurt Eliana emotionally, it wasn't going to be easy for her to trust him again.

Facing being the next in line to the throne, trying to keep a uproar from happening within his pride and fighting for his mate and their family....Malik had a lot on his plate, he and his lion weren't about to let anything happen to those they held close to their hearts.

Eliana's supernatural powers manifested themselves and oh what a delightful treat it had been to see what she turned out to be. She was a lot stronger than she thought, Malik and Eliana faced the unknown and came out closer and stronger than ever.

PROWLED DARKNESS is the last book in Carrie Ann Ryan's mind-blowing series, DANTE'S CIRCLE ...Eliana and Malik's journey was a heart-stopping, race against time, us against the world one.

I may have found this series as it was coming to an end but I don't regret the ride Carrie Ann Ryan took me on along with those seven beautiful women who were each other's salvation and family.

Sorry to see this series come to an end but I'm happy I decided to gave it a try...One of the best decisions ever. This isn't goodbye, it's a " SEE YOU LATER ".

Carrie Ann Ryan finished the Dante's Circle series in the most beautiful way possible...I loved every second of this ride. 5+++ stars

At the end of the last book I wanted to beat Malik something seriously. He has told Eliana that he no longer wants to see her and that they meant nothing to one another. So she has tried to go on with her life. She feels more lonely than ever now that she is the last single of the lighting struck, oh and she’s pregnant! She figures she will never have a mate, after all the guy she fell in love with is only a human, and will simply raise her child by herself.

Malik loved Eliana more than he wanted to admit, in fact his lion is certain she is their mate. The problem is that he can’t mate with a human and his father is dying. So he left her and returned to his own realm to take care of him and attempt to find a lioness to mate. Boy do these two need to learn the power of communication. If only a couple of things would have happened! One Eliana could have brought him around her friends and then he would have realized they were lighting struck. Anther was that Tristian, his friend and mate of one of Eliana’s friends, could have explained the whole lightning struck thing.

Either way these two think the other is human until Malik finds out about the lighting struck gals and heads to Dante’s Circle to find Eliana. He gets the shock of his life when he sees she is ready to pop! They finally begin to have conversations they should of had months ago and Eliana learns that lions don’t mate like the others do. There was a reason she didn’t change the first time her and Eliana had sex like the others. Things move pretty quickly from there with the baby coming and the need to return to his realm.

This finally book in the Dante’s Circle series was so good. My only issue was that I felt like it moved a little too face there towards the end. However that doesn’t take anything away from how great it was. I loved that when Eliana changed it was into a phoenix and what happens to her is so perfect. Malik spent so long trying to do the right thing that he almost missed out on his mate. Of course they do have to deal with his crazy family. I am going to miss the entire gang!
