Fisher's Light #.5

Worth the Trip

Rate this book
***This is a prequel novella to Fisher's Light. It is about the life of Trip Fisher. Fisher's Light should be read before Worth the Trip***

It’s time for me to tell my story.

I know I’m a coward for waiting this long to explain my side of things. I know I should have tried long before now to make amends. There’s nothing like staring right at death’s door to put a fire under your ass. I’m going to die with enough regrets to fill ten notebooks and that’s a tough pill to swallow, but when I meet my maker, I want to be able to hold my head high with the knowledge that at least I confronted all of those regrets.

This was your standard romance book, 100% predictable but I liked. I enjoyed reading about Trip Fisher's life story even though it was squeezed into a teensy novella. Some parts were rushed, some parts flat out didn't make sense (I'm chalking this up to a short story = little development) but I don't regret reading it either.

I normally don't do gif reviews BUT there was this beautiful movie Up that featured a couple who I think closely resembles Trip and his love, so I'm gif-ing the rest of my review :D

What happens in this book

Meet Girl.

Meet Boy.

description

Girl meets Boy and they grow up together as childhood best friends.

description

Boy promises Girl to never leave her.

description

(they don't know it yet but they're already in love with each other. Duh!)

And then they get married.

description

And do married stuff together.

description

They go through a bunch of life's obstacles but always stay strong, living every day to the fullest and like it's their last. You know, because YOLO!

The ending was really idealistic and sweet, a winner for every romantic :)

"I think about a line in a movie...something about how your heart beats for another person...I laughed over the actor's words but in this moment, they make perfect sense and I absolutely understand the sentiment. I feel like my heart is only beating now because of the girl in my arms and I wonder if this is what love feels like."

P.S. You have to read Fisher's Light first!

”Race you to the lighthouse!"

This novella is all about Fisher’s lovable grandfather Trip. In Fisher’s Light he was the one to dole out sage advice and fix everything that broke on the island. In this story, we learn all about his relationship with his late wife, Beverly. Trip starts looking through an old photo album and back on all his mistakes and regrets.

”I want to hold my head high with the knowledge that at least I confronted all my mistakes.”

Trip and Beverly’s love story was very flat for me and honestly I expected more for childhood sweethearts tale. The ending however was so very sweet and leaves a reader happy and content. So I’m stuck with rating this one 3 stars, because the back story itself wasn’t anything special but the ending most definitely was.

This was a hard novella to read especially because you know how it ends (if you read Fisher's Light). That wasn't enough to keep me away and I must say that I quite enjoyed the Trip!

If you thought you liked Trip as an eighty three year old, you haven't met young Trip. He's a feisty one and full of life. So surprise, surprise when he become best friends with someone even feistier!

Trip and Bevy keep each other on their toes and more importantly are always there for each other. We get filled in a lot about their life through Trip's walk down memory lane via his photo album.

description

Unfortunately, there's not always sunshine and roses but we do get to learn about how things turned out for Jefferson (Fisher's Dad) and possibly why.

There's some interesting updates at the end...and it was really sweet.

The Good Stuff:

Dual Pov's? Just Trip's.

Steam Factor? (Scale 1 - 5) Not much.

Angst? (Scale 1 - 5) A little.

Next book? Pretty sure that's it.

“I would chase you anywhere, Beverly Fisher,” I reply.

"I was the catalyst to all of the things that went wrong with this family and I will bear that guilt forever."

This was so sad and heartbreaking to read. A man, tapping on deaths door and so full of life's regrets.

This is also a sweet love story about childhood friends who fall in love and the path it took to get them there. This is the story of Trip and Beverly. Trip is Fisher's beloved grandfather from Fisher's Light. Who knew he had so much sadness kept hidden inside his heart?

Decisions made in moments of grief in this family have impacted so many lives. Trip knows he needs to make amends before he leaves this earth so he puts pen to paper...

Sometimes you don't realise the weight of something you are carrying until you feel the weight of it's release.

Even though there was a lot of sadness there were equal parts of happiness too. I'm so glad that Tara shared this with us :)

Worth The Trip Tara Sivec
Worth The Trip by Tara Sivec
Does not stand alone. Read Fisher's Light first.
If you haven't read Fisher's Light by Tara Sivec. STOP RIGHT THERE. It is a MUST READ for this year! Worth the Trip is a spin-off of Fisher's Light, and though it is it's own story, you need the back story of Fisher's light to understand what is going on.

It takes place during the storm, but it's mostly told in flashback. When Beverly was 5, her dad began working with Trip's dad at the bank. Trip was 7, and forced to spend every weekend watching over the little girl instead of playing with his friends. Until one year Bevy proved that she can play with the boys by climbing a tree like a monkey, with Trip right behind.
QUOTE MARK It was the first of MANY times that I would follow Bevy O'Byrne. There was something about her that made me want to follow her anywhere."

Poor Bevy had an awfully rough life. Her parents basically abandoned her, and Trip became everything to her.  And that never changed. Their childhood love grew into adult love, and it was a beautiful story. Fisher's Island was a place of sadness for her, except where Trip is concerned, but Trip turned it around for her. He loved her so fiercely even the idea of sharing her with a child was hard for him. Their story explained so much in Fisher's Light.

Worth the Trip filled in lots of little details from Fisher's Light. I do, however, wish Fisher's Light was a little fresher in my mind when I read this, because I found myself a bit confused and lost once in a while, and I think I would not have had this issue had I read it right after Fisher's Light. But you should know, I have a really crappy memory. Most of the story was the flashback romance, and you need not remember Fisher's Light to enjoy this sweet childhood friends to lovers story.

Likes:

•Filled in lots of blanks from Fisher's Light.
•Tara made me cry again.
•I loved them as kids.
•The end could not have been more perfect.

Dislikes:

•I felt like I forgot a little too much of Fisher's Light, because parts of Worth the Trip are very much based on details from Fisher's Light.

Rating: 4 stars, 1 Heat

The Down and Dirty:
Had I read Worth the Trip directly after Fisher's Light, I think I would have enjoyed it even more. Don't get me wrong, I loved everything about Trip and Bevy's story, but felt a little forgetful when I read the present day stuff. I think because it was told in flashback from Trip's writing, I didn't quite connect as much as I normally do, but I still loved every word. If you have read Fisher's Light, I say this is a MUST READ, and it will totally fill in blank spots you didn't even realize were there.

This book really touched my heart... Maybe it's because I've met Trip in Fisher's Light and I liked this stubborn, kind grandpa... I just loved his story and how he deliver it through a letter for his family to read when he wasn't there anymore....

Denise and I loved Fisher's Light and were so excited to hear that Tara was going to be writing a companion novella from Trip's POV so that we could read more about his life. Please note that you should read Fisher's Light first to get the most out of your reading experience.

This was a quick read but an emotional one nonetheless. I knew I would be in for a gut wrenching story and Tara definitely delivered.

This will be a short review as this is a novella.

Trip tells his story knowing that he is at death's door...a story mainly for his son Jefferson who he wasn't close to after the death of his wife Beverly. A story asking for forgiveness.

This is a story of how life goes so fast and being that you only have one life to live - that you should live with no regrets and truly savor every moment.

I loved living Trip's life and seeing how he met his wife Beverly; a love that began when they were children and just friends until they realized that it was really more.

People who know me really well know that death scares me. I dont want to leave my spouse and children behind and wish that life didn't move so quickly. This book showed me a heaven that I dream about and wish for...I can't tell you more than that other than to say READ THE BOOK.

Yes there is heartbreak, there are tears but this is a wonderful full circle journey for these characters that will touch you heart and make you appreciate the life, love and family that you have <3

This one really should come with a warning, a warning to keep some tissues near by because you will need them.

I found this one interesting to read because ultimately we know what happens to Trip and I hate it. But reading about his and Bevy's life was great. I loved seeing them go from childhood friends to that awkward teen stage to life partners. I found myself feeling sorry for Fisher's dad, something I didn't think would happen after the first book.

While the ending had me in tears they were happy tears as I was glad that Trip and Bevy were back together again!

4.5 Bevy and Trip stars!

Just a wonderful novella that gives even more depth to characters from a book I loved. We now get to hear Trip's story about his life, love and regrets and I genuinely enjoyed every second of it. You never know the regrets you're going to have at the end of your life, but the way the author wrote this, giving Trip the reins to express his story was great. Loved how every other chapter we got Trip's thoughts and it was nice too see that tie-in into Fisher's Light.

I'm an absolute sobbing mess right now. This novella pulls at the heartstrings like nothing I've read in quite a while. Getting inside Trip Fisher's head, while he reminisces about finding the love of his life, his Bevy, the woman who was right in front of him the entire time, was simply beautiful.

Tara Sivec has written a touching tale of great love, of regret and of second chances. She manages to fill in all the missing pieces from the past that were only touched on in Fisher's Light and I am completely satisfied now. Getting to why Jefferson is the way he is and why he was so distant from both his dad and his son is explained and let me tell you it's heartbreaking.

Grab the tissues, make sure you read Fisher's Light first and then sit back and enjoy.

5 emotionally-filled stars!!!

Oh my god! What a heart warming short story. <3
This story is written from Trip's (Fisher's grandfather) point of view.
He takes a look back on his life when he feels it's almost over.
We see Trip as a child, when he falls in love, deals with heartache and feels a lot of regret over some choices he made. He finds a way to try to make up for some of his regrets before his time is up.

I loved this story. It was very sweet and made me tear up several times. Sometimes out of sadness, and sometimes out of happiness.
The last chapter was soooo perfect!

Normally when I think of Tara Sivec, I'm thinking of outrageous humor, but I love that she can do it all! She's pretty much brought out every emotion in me while reading her books. Simply amazing!

I already knew from Fishers light that Trip was a wonderful man, although sad.
Now I understand his despair. He wasn't the father he wanted to be but after
reading about his Bevy and how precious their love was I can understand his
torment. No it doesn't make it right, his son should have been the beneficiary
of his wisdom but he was just so broken. He did keep his promise to never leave
her. The best way to describe his feelings is when he said they love each other
to distraction. Perfect example. We all have to make our own paths in life and
the only thing that matters is that we're happy with the trail we walk. This
book is worth the trip literally!

This little novella packs a lot of punch!! I was crying more in this on than I was in Fisher's Light. My heart just broke for Trip and I am so thankful that Tara wrote his story to give us more into why Jefferson was the way he was in FL. Let me just say if you loved FL you need to read this!

MICHELLE'S REVIEW

TARA!!!!!! I'm yelling because this woman has done it again. For those of you that read Fisher's Light, you know that Tara made you feel all the feelings in that book. She may be known as a funny girl but when she writes serious and heart wrenching stuff- that's when she really shines.

Now if you didn't read Fisher's Light- drop everything and read it. Seriously.

Worth the Trip is a novella about Fisher's grandfather, known to us as Trip. As old age closes in on Trip, he decides it's time to write his memoirs and more importantly- explain to his estranged son why he wasn't a better father.

Well this story is equal parts romantic and uplifting as it is heartbreaking and tear- inducing. Trip tells the story of his life long love with his soul mate, Beverly.

This isn't a long book so we don't get their full love story but we get enough. Bev and Trip were best friends as children and that grew to love. Yes, they were young but that love was perfect and all for them. And it will make you cry a river.

I don't want to give anything away because you have to experience Trip's story yourself. But there's a ton of heartbreak. The love Trip has for his Beverly is all consuming and there is nothing like it. This is his chance to share that love with his family. And to explain why he was the way he was.

In Fisher's Light, I had nothing but love for Trip so to see him willingly show some of his less than favorable side was amazing in and of itself.

Despite being a quick read, there is so much story being told in a short time. Tara will blow you away with this one.

Read this book. You won't be disappointed.

"I'm sorry, I love you, please forgive me"

Tara Sivec is trying to ruin me with those words. I Wasn't even at the first chapter yet and I was crying. I knew this was going to be an emotional one so I have put it off for as long as possible because Trip Fisher is my favourite character ever and I was ready for his story I just wasn't ready to say goodbye! I'm still refusing it. I'm still in denial. Ignorance is bliss.

"She was my light in the darkness, my reason for living and my best friend."

I expected emotional and I got emotional. All different emotions actually. Trip has lived his life but we only know him as Fisher's takes no bullshit funny, sweet and cocky grandfather. He has always had Fisher and Lucy's back. So caring and loving. In fisher's Light Tara was cruel! So Worth the trip is her plead for forgiveness! Well that's what I'm calling it ha! And its also a chance for us to get to know Bevy, the love of Trip's life who we heard about in Fishers light.

"There was something about her that made me want to follow her anywhere"

I loved how it was done. How he was in the moment and then bringing us back to the beginning of his journey. The innocence of being in Trip's younger self's mind and how he and Bevy's love began completely melted me and took away from the actual sadness of this story. I loved seeing the evolution of this family, where it all began and I'm not going to lie even though I hate Fisher's father I now want his book, to see all of it from his eyes. This was just beautiful, heartbreakingly beautiful but still beautiful all the same.

"Race you to the lighthouse?"

Absolutely breathe taking beautiful and inspiring, and so totally Worth The Read (lol)., hard to put into words what a strong and intense and emotional impact this book has on you, special if you read it after it's companion story Fisher's Light (which I highly recommend you do, which is read both stories back to back, and asap) which then only makes that story even more beautiful then it already is., This was Trips story (aka: Fishers grandfather) and what an amazing and zingy (in an old-funny-grumpy- man kinda way..lol) character he is, makes reading a story like this worth the trillion of tissues from all the tears and the ache in the stomach for the trillions times he makes you laugh, but what gets you most is a love like no other and the kind that tears & melts at your heart, but the best way to express what has so much impact on you is just one of many quotes for Trip, that has you in awe this one is from a letter his writes, " It's the only way to love, my son. Love them to distraction. Love every part of them and don't go another day without telling them that." there more much more after that which will melt and along with the rest on the story, is one of many reasons, why, this is one helluva 5 star story, that will and forever be in my heart. BEAUTIFUL , JUST ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL, I highly recommend this story as well as Fisher's Light as a must asap read for both <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Bu 3 yıldız kitap kötü olduğundan değil, bazı yerlerine 1, bazı yerlerine 5 vermek istediğimden.

Worth the Trip gözlerim dolu dolu okuduğum bir kitaptı. Okudum bitti :D

This novella is Trip Fisher's story. It details his love story with his wife Bevy, and all of his regrets. I have to say this is so much better than Fisher's Light by Tara Sivec . This book brought tears to my eyes. My heart broke for Trip and my heart rejoiced with him. I recommend this be read after Fisher's Light by Tara Sivec .

Pass the tissue box please!!!

After reading Fisher's Light and meeting Trip, you must read Worth the Trip...so appropriately named. I adore this older man and in this book we meet the boy he used to be.

This is Trip's letter to his son explaining his life and his love for his wife Bevy. It is all in Trip's POV and boy can he break your heart and then make you smile all at the same time. What a beautiful full circle story of a forever love.

Tara Sivec you owe me a case of tissues!!! SO worth the Trip !!!!!
