New York Times bestselling author Joanne DeMaio delivers a delightful novel about following your heart on the snow-dusted journey home.
Jane March's greeting cards have lost their jingle. While worried about her job at New England's Cobblestone Cards, she stumbles upon a forgotten box of her mother's nostalgic paintings. They depict small-town Addison's covered bridge and red barns and picket-fenced colonials. If only Jane's designs could capture the same heart. When her mother shows her how with a Christmas to-do list of memories in the making, Jane gets checking.
Wes Davis has come home again, jilted and a little bitter. His autumn wedding's off, and so is his holiday spirit. Even seeing the rustic wooden deer his father whittles by lantern light doesn't help as he settles back into the shabby Victorian home of his childhood. It is only when Wes encounters the sparkling Jane March on his winding mail route that his cold winter heart begins to thaw.
As the fall months turn wintry, and the season merry, a funny thing happens in this charming Connecticut town: Jane and Wes check off items on that Christmas itinerary, together. But falling in love wasn't included on the list. Or was it?
Snow Deer and Cocoa Cheer is a treasured keepsake, reminding us that like winter's first snow, life brings a beautiful flurry of its own unexpected moments.

Joanne DeMaio is the prolific New York Times bestselling author of The Seaside Saga and other novels. She lives with her family in Connecticut and is currently at work on upcoming books.
Another extraordinary story from Joanne DeMaio. If this story doesn’t get you in the holiday spirit nothing will.
Jane March and Wes Davis are both at crossroads in their lives when the reconnect in Addison Cove. She is recouping after an physical injury and he is recouping from an emotional one. Their journey over the next few weeks is almost magical.
Jane is an artist but it is the author that breathes life into her watercolors and the beautiful places around Addison Cove. Oh my, I was able to envision them so clearly in my mind. The extra little touches Jane added to her card covers positively sparkled in the author’s words. Just joyful to read.
This is going to be a hard holiday season for me, the first since my son’s death. It is stories like this one that are going to help me endure the days. I was able to escape to Connecticut for an afternoon. I did shed a few tears because Kris is never out of my thoughts but Wes and Jane’s story made me smile. All the characters were wonderful and the way the town rallies together just made me feel warm all over.
I am posting this on Thanksgiving because it was the only day I had open when I was offered this book for review and there was no way I was going to miss it. I have loved everything this author writes and her books always seem to arrive when my life needs a bit of a lift and I thank Joanne DeMaio so much for that. So my recommendation is this, click on the book cover and buy it and download it now, then go enjoy the day with your family. Then on Saturday evening when you have had enough of all the Black Friday and the Saturday sales, make yourself a nice cup of cocoa and head to your favorite reading spot and enjoy Snow Deer and Cocoa Cheer. Come back when you finish and tell me all what you thought! I hope you think it was a perfect escape too!
Mesmerizing. Magical. Quintessential New England style. A beautiful Christmas love story of second chances. Loved it! A talented storyteller, Joanne DeMaio invites you into a stunning New England picture-perfect setting- from pumpkins, cozy autumn golden leaves, to a “Jane March” post-card wintry Christmas holiday.
SNOW DEER AND COCOA CHEER --- a magical story filled with humor, which will warm your heart; where old-fashioned nostalgia, meets contemporary enchanting-- setting the mood for an unforgettable winter wonderland love story, second chances, and special holiday wishes. Would make a great Hallmark Christmas movie, as well as her entire backlist of books.
Jane March, single, age 33-- has lost her jingle. A greeting card designer for New England’s Cobblestone Cards, she has a broken arm, at the worst possible time, as the holidays are approaching. She returns to recuperate at her mom Lillian’s farmhouse in Addison. (an artist).
She has set up an office at her mom’s house and is not finding what she needs to begin a new line of this season’s cards. No inspiration. She is fresh out of ideas, and worries she may lose her job. Her boss has agreed to allow her to work from home; however, he is expecting new and exciting.
Then one day she finds an old box of charming wintry watercolors from her mom’s collection, adding snow and balsam garland and twinkly lights to the white picket fence, and other details on her computer-generated enhance program, adds a few jingles, and she begins to feel a spark. She sends off the samples to her boss and he loves it. Now he wants more. What now? Try coming up with jingles after you have designed thousands of greeting cards, while a boss is pressuring, for fresh ideas.
When complaining to Lillian, she leaves her an “I INSIST List”. She tells her daughter she needs to get out of the house and visit places within the quaint small town. Every canvas of hers was painted straight from her heart, living each one, experienced with Edward her late husband (Jane’s dad), Chloe (Jane’s sister), and Jane. Experience the setting, memories, the people, nature, and inspiration will come. She has to LIVE IT!
The roots of Christmas. Jane wonders: How do I capture the magic of the heart- an old-fashioned Christmas? Her mom seems to think if she immerses herself in the season in their little town of Addison it will come. OK, she decides to give it a whirl. The first item is to feed the Cardinals. Now she has to find feed. Of course, Jane is not so sure. She is unable to drive and difficult to get around without the use of her arm still in a sling. It starts with the postman. She needs the postman to deliver her work to the door versus walking to the mailbox. Of course, he is not so friendly or accommodating.
Wes Davis, the postman is not happy. He was engaged to be married to Shelia, and she backed out and moved back to Indiana, a few days before the wedding. Now he has lost his apartment and moves home to Addison, to live with his dad in the old Victorian family home. He dreads all the small town people and sympathy. He has to hear all the “I’m sorry” sympathy looks, and regrets from everyone on his mail route, plus everywhere he goes. He wants to run and hide from everyone he knows.
His dad, Pete, also a postman, as was his grandfather. Third generation. His mom died years earlier and his dad has a wood carving business on the side. He whittles in his workshop, making deer, and seems happy, working every night with an online business. He and Wes have lunch every day on their postal route. Wes sees himself in this role and it scares him to death- the boring routine. He has lived in this town all his life. He wants nothing more than to escape the upcoming family holidays and experience life, somewhere besides this town. He cannot bear to hear any more sympathies—he is bitter, unhappy, and feels like a loser. He has to escape the wedding details and all the questions.
Wes has decided to swap his honeymoon airline ticket to take the opportunity to get away to California, to visit a college friend over the holidays. He plans to stay a week. he can avoid family, and maybe get away for good while seeking new job opportunities. He does not want to turn into his dad. Of course, Pete would love nothing more, as he needs an apprentice; someone to help him with his online business which his growing. He even brings home a dog (Comet) for him, to keep him company.
Wes is counting down the days for his trip. Nothing will stand in his way. Cynical, and not in the Christmas holiday spirit. He also has to deal with his brother, Greg--the guy who gets all the dates and the local doctor. (Also Jane’s doctor).
When Jane requests Wes bring the mail to the door, he is initially put off, until he realizes she has a broken arm. They begin to communicate by leaving one another notes in the mailbox. If she needs a ride, or a desperate trip into town for bird feed, or other things on her mom’s list, she leaves a desperate note and puts up the red flag.
They soon look forward to packages and special notes from one another. Every day is filled with anticipation--- it could be a word, a trinket, one line, a note, or a question about an upcoming date. It is all about the red flag.
Soon Wes lets down his guard, as Jane's eyes are dazzling--always a winning smile. She gets excited about all the things on her mom’s list which gives her inspiration. She is also thinking about the carriage house of her mom’s which is about to go up for rent. Working from this special magical town and this list is working magic for her, and then there is Wes. She encourages him, gets him involved with her list of things to do and see. Jane also helps Wes’ dad Pete with ideas for the deer and marketing for his website.
Wes and Jane continue communicating through the mailbox and the red flag. They do not use email or cell to speak with one another. However, as they get closer, Wes is determined not to allow anything to get in his way from making his trip out of town. He cannot trust love as he has failed once, and cannot put himself through this again.
When a possible exciting job offer comes from his friend, Wes is torn between the girl, who may have stolen his heart, and his new dog Comet, the magical town, to the pull of escaping this town for new opportunities.
Down to a few days of Wes’ Christmas Eve departure, Jane has to come up with a desperate plan to keep Wes in town and seeks Pete and Lillian’s assistance, as well as the entire community on Old Willow Road. Will Wes choose to stay, and allow his heart to be open to a relationship with Jane and new love? Or will he go to California without knowing what could develop with one special woman, who came into his life as quickly, as the other one vanished?
A long-time fan of the author, having read all her books, I anxiously await the next, as each is unique and charming as the previous. Joanne writes with such vivid settings and descriptions, drawing you into this snowflakes winter wonderland ambiance with crafts, Christmas tree farms, first snows, cozy fires, twinkling lights, coffee shops, festive boat parades, hot cocoa, pinecones, homemade goodies, flickering lanterns, babbling brooks, scents, red covered bridge, white picket fences, vintage ornaments, jingles and rhymes, sleighs, silver bells, snowmen, balsam, reindeer, cardinals, farmhouses, special kisses, and beautiful memories to warm your heart for special holiday wishes.
I loved the mail box and red flag!
Refreshing. In today’s world of social media, where everything is digital, we lose the intimacy of handwritten notes, and nothing better than an old-fashioned mail box with special deliveries. Even my grandchildren in the Carolinas, get excited when they receive mail from Nana J in South Florida. Their eyes light up at the mailbox. Especially at Christmas, it is magical. Loved Wes’ dog, Comet, helping him deliver mail, as he talked to him on his route.
While living in South Florida, we live vicariously through books, such as this to get us in the Christmas spirit, when we have sun, sand, and palm trees. We either travel north or read. The deer so reminded me of my days living in Big Canoe, GA (North Georgia Mountains) in a log cabin. Miss those days, when arriving home from work, the deer there to greet you, running along beside you up the driveway.
If you read only one Christmas book this season, SNOW DEER AND COCOA CHEER, is the book to read and give as a treasured gift to your loved one or special friend. Assured to bring a smile to all, with a sprinkle of magic. You will never look at mailbox red flag the same, without thinking of Jane and Wes.
Joanne is a master at weaving tales of friendship, family, love, and choices while setting her stories in New England towns or by the sea. You will love the characters, and re-visiting with mentions of places and special people from her prior books. Cleverly crafted with warmth and comfort from autumn to winter in New England-- with its own special unique beauty, the author captures it perfectly. My favorite Christmas Book. Fans of Richard Paul Evans' Christmas stories will treasure this one.
With a dusting of snow and the scent of pine needles wafting through the air, and a charming town, with family and new friends that seem to have stepped out of the pages of a storybook– Romantic, Magical, and Whimsical. Where special treasures await.
If you have not read, Snowflakes and Coffee Cakes another enchanting novel about love, family, and the delicate power of snowflakes.
A special thank you to the publisher and publicist for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
To me this is the best book reading time of year. I love snuggling up into bed, with my coffee and a good book. I love Fall weather and I am even more in love with the holiday season! DeMaio managed to capture all of the things I love in one book! She captured the feeling of this time of year perfectly! DeMaio allows us to revisit familiar people and places, but has a new and engaging story for us to escape in. We are completely taken in by the setting of the story. Her beautifully detailed and well imagined story makes the reader want to jump inside the book and live along side of all the characters. This time of year is about feeling good, second chances, finding love and embracing the life we live and DeMaio has brought that to us in an engaging, heartwarming and original story that will make you want to start getting ready for Christmas today! Thanks Joanne for writing this book! It was an amazing start to my holiday reading! Plus, it will make a wonderful gift for my book loving friends! 5 stars
A heart-warming story with great fall, winter and seasonal descriptions of a New England town. I'm not big on lots of descriptions but it worked for this novel. The characters and plot were somewhat predictable, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. All in all, a sweet read to curl up with a nice cup of coffee by the fire.
There is something sparkly and magical about the way Joanne DeMaio composes her characters and settings. The descriptive passages make you feel like you are the best friend to the main character, that you could be the cheerful store owner, and you might love to live in that beautiful New England town. And “Snow Deer and Cocoa Cheer” makes you feel like you have stepped inside a wonderful wintry storybook scene. The town of Addison and it’s residents will definitely get you in the mood for the holidays.
It took no time at all to be transported to that enchanting New England town and introduced to Jane March, illustrator of greeting cards who is in need of a good dose of “jingle.” Jane is recuperating at her mother’s home after breaking her wrist and losing her creative spirit for designing holiday cards. With some inspiration from her mother, a new friendship and some small town magic she begins to create again. Then there is Wes, the local mailman who is in search of something new in his life after being left jilted by his fiance before their wedding. He struggles with the pull of leaving for the West Coast where no one knows his story, and staying in his hometown with those that love and care about him. With each raising of the mailbox’s red flag at the March residence we see Jane and Wes’ friendship begin and slowly turn into something special. Will Wes stay and try to forge a new relationship with Jane? You will have to read this sweet story till the end to find out.
Add in a good dose of New England charm, a couple of love deer, a few cups of cocoa, and a dash of sparkling new snow and you have the makings of another fantastic holiday story. I thoroughly enjoyed each moment in this book and it simply made me feel happy every time I picked it up. A true feel-good story that should be on everyone’s must read list this holiday season.
Jane March designs greeting cards for Cobblestone Cards, but when she is laid up with a broken arm, she returns home to Addison. Staying with her mom, Lillian, and trying to find her “jingle” again, she discovers unexpected friends and the possibility of romance.
Snow Deer and Cocoa Cheer, like all books by this author, brings the reader right into the homey world of the characters. We are revisited by characters and places from other books, when we shop at Whole Latte Life and Snowflakes & Coffee Cakes.
As Jane discovers a new plan for her next series of cards, with the help of a list her mother has offered, we are soon immersed in the New England Village settings she creates. I loved the covered bridge, the snow settling on the Victorian houses, and I especially fell in love with the carriage house next door to Jane’s mother’s farmhouse, with its loft that has views of the countryside. I know I wouldn’t be able to move away from that space. The village is a place I would love to spend Christmas.
Wes Davis is an interesting character. Jilted by his almost-bride, he is struggling. He had given up his apartment and now lives with his father, Pete, in Addison. Wes is a mailman, like his father and grandfather before him. Meanwhile, in his spare time, Pete whittles creations that become the centerpiece for his new website, and Jane assists with the marketing. And when Wes and Jane want to communicate with each other, they leave up the red flag on her mailbox.
Can love be on the horizon? Is it too soon for Wes to begin again? And what will happen next for Jane after her arm heals?
A delightful read that makes this reader want to visit this New England village, eat comfort foods, and buy greeting cards from the series Jane creates. This book definitely earned five stars from me.
I messed up. I read book 2 before I read 1. And I call myself an accountant. Humph. But it did not take away from the book. It appears to almost be a stand alone that takes place in the same town. Some characters will be familiar.
Either way I loved this book! What a great book to start off my Christmas season reads.
The book had everything I want in a Christmas book: strong family storyline, a cute fuzzy animal, gorgeously described scenery, hot drinks and of course romance.
I also love when any book introduces a new topic to me. One I never gave a second thought to. This book introduced me to whittling. I'd love to learn how to whittle. We have plenty of branches on our property just waiting to be made into a cat or deer.
Great book and I cannot wait to read more in this series.
This book is one of the most charming, heartwarming Christmas books I have ever read. Snow Deer and Cocoa Cheer tells the story of Jane and Wesley. Jane is a greeting card designer, who has lost her jingle, and is afraid that if she doesn't get it back, she will lose her job. She is recuperating back in Addison at her mother's house after breaking her arm in a fall. She meets Wesley, third-generation mailman in Addison, when she needs his help getting her mail because of a persnickety door and her broken arm. Wes is a bit put out at first, and it doesn't help his mood that he was recently jilted by his fiancée. Wes is nursing a broken heart, and is reluctant to let Jane into his heart. He has plans to go to California, perhaps permanently, on Christmas Eve. But as he and Jane grow closer, he is more confused than ever about what to do. Jane and her smile have won his heart, but after being let down by his fiancée, he doesn't know if he can trust his heart anymore. The growing friendship between Jane and Wes is so sweet, and their method of communicating by a raised red flag on a mailbox was so heartwarming, especially in this day of texts and twitter! Snow Deer and Cocoa Cheer takes place in Addison, Connecticut. Addison is a quaint New England town, full of warmth and the spirit of the holidays. The book begins in autumn and takes us through Thanksgiving and Christmas, and the author's amazing descriptions made you feel like you were right there. Although this is a contemporary romance, this book has such a sweet, nostalgic feel to it. I don't remember ever reading a book which has a mailman as the romantic lead, but it definitely works in this book, and adds to the charm and whimsy. A perfect Christmas romance to warm your heart and get you into the spirit of the holidays!
Snow Deer and Cocoa Cheer is the perfect story to get you in the mood for the holidays this year. The story start off in the fall, in October, right about this time of year. And we go through Halloween and Thanksgiving and then right up to Christmas, right along with all the wonderful people who live in Addison. I was able to take a trip back to the lovely town of Addison where I got to reconnect with the community and the people I had come to love.
Jane goes back home to recuperate after she breaks her arm and where she is going to try to save her career. She is a greeting card maker who seems to have 'lost her jingle'. Her mother is there to support her and to try to help Jane find her way back.
Wes is just biding his time until he can leave his old life behind. His fiancé called of their wedding and instead of facing the questions from everyone at Christmas, he decides to head to the west coast. Who knows? Maybe he can start a new life there and be happy.
Snow Deer and Cocoa Cheer is a heartwarming story that shows us how beautiful the holidays can be when you are surrounded by those who love you. Joanne does such a fabulous job with her words that the reader can't help feeling all of the holiday joy and emotions that Jane, Wes, and all of the other people of Addison feel as they experience the love of the community. Her descriptions are so perfect that I had no trouble 'seeing' the wonderfulness of Addison.
I am always so excited when there is another Joanne DeMaio story to read and I am never disappointed. I love her stories and I love my trips back to the worlds she creates.
I love the way Joanne DeMaio takes familiar things like a star, a snowflake, shimmering water, a deer, a cup of cocoa, and make them into something with a special message. All of her novels are beautifully written. Snow deer and cocoa cheer is about love lost and a true love gained. If you long to visit the perfect, nostalgic, little New England town and escape the crazy in our current world and fall in love then Snow Deer and Cocoa Cheer is a definite must read! Becky
I think I have just found a new favorite author. I absolutely loved this book. I actually felt like I was right there with the characters. It is so touching and tender! I will be buying more of her books and can't wait to start reading another one!!
I am not quite sure what to say. I almost did not read this book as I could NOT get past the title which is over the top sappy. Needing a respite and escape from a depressing and hopeless weekend, I started reading this little story as my overwrought mind needed an easy read that would "take me away", and a friend had recommended it. Realizing that Thanksgiving is next week with Christmas soon after, I realized that I have not one iota of holiday spirit. Nada. This is usually not the case for me.
I am not much of a romance reader. It's just not my thing...kind of like science fiction isn't my thing. Usually. And yes, there is romance in this story. What captured me however, is what I was looking for: escape to a magical, cozy, happy town where the holidays are simply celebrated, friendly faces are the norm, and family comes together to enjoy the festivities. I loved the fact that with simple, beautiful, but not overdone descriptions, the author drew me into all of the Fall holidays that I celebrate: Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
Usually, a Christmas setting is simply a vehicle for a love story romance aka The Hallmark Channel. But, I found the book a soothing description of the Fall celebrations that had me seeing, hearing, smelling, touching and tasting all the delights of the season. Maybe growing up in the very south of Florida, I always find myself drawn to settings which celebrate the nuances of each season. I am not sure if it is that or not, but the author did a wonderful job of evoking a place where I would certainly love to visit from October through December. And the love story was a little different and to me not the main plot. (I only rolled my eyes a couple of times.) 😉 Even the title made a little more sense as you read the book although I seriously would have titled it something else as it almost had me running for insulin.
At any rate, the book accomplished what I needed. It transported me to a place I will visit in my head. It removed me, mentally, from an unpleasant situation, and left me with some much needed holiday spirit. And for that, I award it four stars.
Time for a cozy break in Addison, Connecticut. I thought the passing messages through the mailbox thing was very cute. The dog was a sweet addition. Interesting little plot point with Wes getting jilted quite close to his wedding. Love the appearances from our old friends.
I didn’t enjoy our characters at first. I know Wes’ negativity was justified, his life kinda imploded, but he really kinda spread it around quite a bit. I didn’t like Jane taking her mom’s work, although that was wrapped up quickly and satisfactorily. I found the whittling corny, but no judgment if you enjoyed it. You officially start dating and you don’t even have each other’s cell phones?
I’m quibbling over minor stuff. Overall it’s very sweet and cozy even if just a slight notch below the other DeMaio winter books I’ve read so far. I recommend if you’re seeking comfort.
I love the cover of this book; it is gorgeous. I also like that this story has the characters from and the same setting as Snowflakes and Coffeecakes. This time the main characters are Jane and Wes, and I like both characters. I also liked the romance and different relationships in this story. Also, I hope Greg finally gets a happy ending in Cardinal Cabin. The thing I liked best, though, was the notes that the main characters left each other in the mailbox instead of phone calls and text messages. I thought that was so sweet.
In Snow Deer and Cocoa Cheer, author Joanne DeMaio transports the reader to the tranquil small New England town of Addison Cove, Connecticut for a heartwarming Christmas tale of family, friendship, and finding unexpected love.
After breaking her left wrist, greeting card designer Jane March heads back to her hometown of Addison Cove, Connecticut to recuperate at her childhood home. Jane has lost her "jingle" and needs to find new inspiration for next season's Christmas cards, or possibly lose the job that she loves. With an uncertain future before her, Jane discovers a set of her mother Lillian's paintings of various scenes around Addison which provide her with a much needed spurt of mojo. But it's Lillian who adds the extra touch of inspiration for Jane by telling her that she needs to get back to the roots of the Christmas season and immerse herself and experience them. Lillian provides Jane with an "insist list of things to do around Addison" that will help her muse find the inspiration behind the wonder of the holiday season.
Wes Davis is a third generation mailman who has been jilted by his ex-fiance two weeks before their wedding. Wes moves back home with his father, Pete, whose hobby is whittling wooden deer that he sells at local town events. With the Christmas holiday approaching, Wes is not looking forward to the small town gossip and answering questions about his failed wedding, so to avoid it he exchanges his honeymoon tickets for a trip to California over the holiday. When Wes delivers the mail to Jane's house, he notices that her arm is in a sling, and he reluctantly begins to help Jane complete her mother's insist list. As the friendship develops between Jane and Wes, from late October leading up to Christmas, they embark on the Christmas list adventure, and their relationship blossoms into something more when Jane's natural sparkle thaws Wes' frozen heart, giving them an unexpected chance at finding love.
Snow Deer and Cocoa Cheer is a wonderful Christmas story that will tug at the heartstrings and fill the reader with seasonal joy. Author Joanne DeMaio weaves a spellbinding tale set in the quaint New England town of Addison Cove, Connecticut, that captivates the reader's attention with a heartwarming romance. This delightful holiday tale has a rich description of the breathtaking small town setting, holiday tradition and greeting cards, birch deer decorations, delicate swirls of snowflakes, and yummy hot cocoa. With both Jane and Wes' lives at a crossroads, their emotional journey of taking a risk, letting go of the past, and finding an unexpected chance at love and happiness unfolds in a magical way that will make the reader believe in the power of love and friendship, and the joy of the holiday season.
There is not enough words that I can express about the simplicity and beauty in which author Joanne DeMaio weaves her wonderful heartwarming and multi-layered stories that are filled with a mixture of loss and love, friendship, wholesome family values, and life's unexpected special moments, it is simply breathtaking. As the readers follow Jane and Wes' story, they will discover the true holiday meaning of what snow deers and coca cheers stands for, it is simply magical!
Snow Deer and Cocoa Cheer is an enchanting holiday story full of warmth and comfort that will remind the reader of the magic, joy, and spirit of Christmas. It is a lovely story that will resonate with the reader for a very long time.
Disclaimer: I received a copy of the book from the author in exchange for my honest review and participation in a virtual book tour hosted by the author.
Are you looking for the perfect book to curl up with and enjoy that hot cup of cocoa? I have the perfect book for you and I just know you are going to enjoy it. Snow Deer and Cocoa Cheer by Joanne DeMaio is an awesome winter time read to just relax and forget about the cold outside.
Joanne DeMaio is one of my favorite authors that takes me away while I read her books. She does such a fabulous job with description that she always takes me on a little vacation each time I read one of her books. I felt the warm welcome of the small town, enjoyed the beautiful scenery, and became completely engrossed in the story of Jane March and Wes Davis.
Jane March is in a bit of a lull. She just can't seem to get that spark of creation she needs for her job making greeting cards. Not only is she dealing with a creative drought she has a broken arm that she is dealing with. I instantly found a bond with Jane. Her Mom sends her on a little journey around town on her I Insist list that I just loved. I could visualize each and every stop on the I Insist List and enjoyed each item on the list as much as Jane and Wes.
Wes Davis has had it with small town life. He's going through an emotional time and doesn't want all those sympathetic looks and the "How are you doing?" questions. His fiancee has left him almost at the alter and in a small town everyone knows. I loved that Wes is a mailman and everyone and anyone knows him and when and where he is going to be at. It's just one of those things that gives you the extra small town feel.
I loved how Jane ask Wes for help to get to the places on her I Insist List. As they visit and discover each little fabulous wonder of Winter they get to know each other better and a deeper relationship that neither is expecting forms.
The characters are incredible and I loved that I was given the chance to catch up with some old friends to see how life had been for them. Ms. DeMaio's stories always leave me with the feeling that I just made a couple of new friends on the wonderful vacation that she takes me on with her words.
I love this lady's work. She's very talented and write a tremendous story any time of the year. Her Christmas stories are just as special as her summer beach stories. Once again Ms. DeMaio has written a fabulous story that held me captivated, left my heart filled with joy, and my soul filled with the spirit of the holidays and love.
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Addison. I loved watching Jane and Wes develop a new relationship and help each other heal from both physical and emotional issues. Joanne DeMaio knows how to write a lovely story that holds my attention from the first page all the way to very end. Then I'm left waiting for her next release with anxious anticipation. I can't wait to see what wonderful story she has in store for us lucky readers next. I know it'll be a great one.
I have to mention Jane's Cards. They are so well described that I wanted to run out and buy her cards to send out for Christmas. They sound beautiful.
I also must mention the cover. I love when the cover is so enticing it makes you want to grab the book and dig in. Then when you dig in and the story is just as fabulous as you thought it was going to. Oh those are the things that make this reviewer a happy lady.
I was given the opportunity to read this fabulous story so that I may share my thoughts with you. As always it has been my pleasure to share my thoughts with you on Snow Deer and Cocoa Cheer.
This is a great book to read around Christmas time, or any time. The book takes place in Addison Cove, Connecticut, and is just like a place I would love to visit some day, or maybe live. I loved the people and the way they knew all about each other, the care they gave each other, and the way they looked out for each other. I especially loved the characters of Jane and Wes.
The way the author writes brings the town and it’s people to life in the pages of this book. They have real lives and real problems, just like we all do. It may sound silly, but I loved the way Wes talked to his dog. It reminded me of me talking to my dog.
This is a feel good book that makes you feel all comfy like you’re visiting with friends. It has a steady pace and keeps your attention. I loved revisiting Addison Cove and would love it if DeMaio would write more books centered around this town.
This is the sixth book by this author and I’ve read them all. She’s been one of my favorite authors from book #1, and has never let me down. I would highly recommend every one of them.
I can’t wait for another book from this talented writer.
Joanne has a way of artfully drawing her readers into an environment. She deftly creates sites, sounds, images and even emotion. There are several scenes within this story that show care and various forms of love. One instance comes to mind in particular, when a visiting adult daughter enters her bedroom to find a new pair of cupcake pj's and fluffy slippers placed atop her childhood bed. A motherly gesture that can only be described as sweet and welcoming. One that made me think, "This is something I would do for my own daughter".
Throughout the story, the seasons blend seamlessly into a period of time. However, the flow of the story line stutters with words that are not of the generation represented in the book of which the main characters belong. Perhaps Joanne is held to a word count and forceably places expletives from the 1950's as a filler? This only creates distraction and makes the characters melt in the snow that surrounds their New England home, when she's already done the heavy lifting to develop their personalities. Nonetheless, I'm happy that I discovered this author, for her writing promises an escape to world of New England charm and happy endings.

Couldn't even finish this one. Got through half of it and gave up. I don't usually give up on books. Felt like the main characters were middle school aged. Not the thirty somethings that they were supposed to be. I felt the writing was very forced. Sorry, just didn't care for this one.
Really cute story. Nothing exciting and totally predictable but still a good holiday story. I have noticed with this author, her use of imagery is almost over kill. She is sooo descriptive. Beautifully written, but I just want to get back to the story.

Great to read after Snowflakes and Coffee Cakes. Characters Jane March and Wesley live in Addison and looking for the holiday spirit. Jane’s Mom challenges her to get her “Jingle” back in her holiday card designs by creating an “I Insist” list. Wes’s wedding as called off at the last minute but he gravitate toward Jane and helps her find her “Jingle. German Shepherd, Comet, adds more sweet to the story. We get to see characters from previous Addison stories which is away fun. Amy, Vera, Derek and more. If you do not know who they are it is time to sit down and read all of Joanne DeMaio’s great books.
This was such a fun read. It revolves around a greeting card designer, Jane, and mailman, Wes. The setting is in the small town of Addison somewhere in New England just before the holidays. The plot is based on Wes being jilted two weeks before his wedding and Jane who is struggling with her career who has lost who "jingle" for creating Christmas cards. It has great character development who you see the inner struggle with Wes and his ability to love and Jane who searches to find her inspiration. Although it is a holiday setting, it is a great read anytime.
What a great light read to get you into the holiday spirit! Wes was jilted a month before his wedding and Jane (a Christmas Card designer) lost her jingle and is recuperating in Addison after breaking her arm. Wes and Jane originally went to school together but haven't seen each other in years. Can Jane find her jingle? Can Wes find himself and love? Only the magic of Christmas in Addison knows for sure. I finished this book in front of the fireplace after Black Friday shopping and this book definitely got me into the holiday spirit!
Loved it. Jane March is a Christmas card designer who is staying with her mom since she had a bad fall and broke her arm. She has been waiting for a package in the mail, but she is having trouble with getting to the mail box so she leaves a card asking the mail man could bring her mail to the porch. That’s when she meets Wes, and the story begins. The descriptions of the scenery, the Christmas card designs make them seem like they are right in front of you. Pete’s creations of whittled wood, make you want to go buy them. So much more to love in this novel
