Very good book. Clay has been working hard to overcome his reputation, but has the feeling that everyone is just waiting for him to screw up again. That day may not be far off when Clay comes across Izzie while shots are being fired at her. Add that to her cattle being impounded, and it looks like Izzie has big problems. He's stayed away from her for years, but when she comes to him for help, he can't say no.
Clay and Izzie have a history. They had been in love as teenagers, but Clay was handling some family issues badly, giving him a troublesome reputation. Izzie's parents didn't approve of him, and bowing to pressure, she ended her relationship with him. A brief relationship with Clay's friend ended when he was killed in a robbery and Izzie blamed Clay. She refused to listen to his explanation, turning her back on him. She has ignored him ever since then, still giving in to pressure from her mother.
Izzie can't afford to lose any cattle, so she goes to Clay and asks for his help. She wouldn't blame him if he said no, but is relieved when he agrees. His skills soon uncover evidence that something strange is going on. Not everyone is happy about Clay's involvement, including his boss and his brothers, all of whom warn him to stay out of it. He can't do it, and the more he finds the more worried about her he becomes.
Both Clay and Izzie are wary around each other at first. There is still a lot of hurt lingering from their past, and a reluctance to trust each other. As they spend time together on their investigation they have the chance to overcome some of that. The more she sees of Clay, the more she sees past the reputation to the Clay she used to know. She is torn between what she wants to believe and all the things she has been told. Clay still cares about her, but believes that she would no longer want him. One thing neither can deny is the attraction between them. However, giving in doesn't make the issues between them disappear. Izzie has an eye opening experience when she runs into her own problems with the law, and Clay gets a taste of her experience from six years earlier. I liked that both of them learned something about themselves and each other from it.
The mystery going on around Izzie's property was complicated. There were multiple possibilities on who was behind it and why. I loved Clay's tenacity and how he was able to get to the root of the problem. Seeing him gain the support and help of his brothers as each step was revealed was very satisfying. The final confrontation was intense as Clay uses his skills to save them from those who want Izzie dead.
The ending was great, as Izzie has her big moment, showing Clay just how much she cares. Clay also gets the surprise of his life with an unexpected request from his brother, showing just how far he has come. There's also progress on the search for their little sister.
Isabel Nosie and Clay Cosen were madly in love with each other but things fell apart between them. Now Izzie must put aside the differences between her and Clay. She needs Clay’s help in finding the person responsible for letting loose her cattle and killing them. With Clay and Izzie back in each other’s life, their passion rekindles and they soon realize they were always meant to be… Hunter Moon by Jenna Kernan is an eloquent and engrossing novel. After reading this you’ll be anticipating Ms. Kernan’s next Apache Protectors book!
Another stunning addition to the series. I absolutely loved Clay and Isabel. They had awesome character development and they aren't the same people at the end as they were at the beginning.
I love the scenery and imagery Kernan uses to describe the Indian Reservation. It made me feel as if I were actually there. Heck, I want to see it one day!
Clay could not want anything more than to see his dark past go away. Will his tribe ever see anything other than the kid who messed up and almost joined a gang? It even cost him the girl he loved. Isabel.
His job is to impound any free-roaming cattle he comes across, but what happens when this only leads to more enemies? Isabel has her reasons why she refuses to trust Clay, especially since she once loved him. But when she discovers her cattle are being killed, she has no choice but to turn to Clay. He is the best tracker on the reservation after all.
Kernan has a gift at suspense. She keeps you on your toes wondering what is going to happen next. I was constantly trying to piece together who the bad guy could be.
This book can be read as a standalone, but if you want to understand the full backstory, I recommend you read Shadow Wolf first.
Did I mention that this book is awesome yet? Well, it is.
Note: Once again we are dealing with drugs and there is one brief sexual scene.
Disclaimer: I received a copy of these books from Jenna Kernan for my honest review, which I have given. I was not required to write a positive review and have not been compensated for it in any way. All opinions expressed are my own.
A story full of second chances. Isabel is being threatened. She doesn't know what to do. She does call Clay. Lies and danger are everywhere. Clay doesn't think people believe him. Little does he know, the most important one does.
This is the second of a four book series by Jenna Kernan. Just as enjoyable as the first. Again....besides being a good read she includes some very interesting info about some of the beliefs of the Apache people. On to book three!!
Hunter Moon brings you to Black Mountain, the Arizona reservation where the Cosen family lives. We meet Clay Cosen, a livestock handler and ultra-reserved Apache with issues. He’s the hero from the wrong side of the tracks that has pined for Isabella Nosie (Izzie) since high school. Denying their love got them into a heap of trouble last time around, and ended up with Clay in juvenile detention. Now, six years later, Izzie is determined to do what’s best for her, not what’s best for her reputation.
Calling upon Clay’s tracking skills, they are able to piece together clues to a conspiracy that threatens to run Izzie off of her ranch and strip her of grazing rights. Clay goes beyond mere tracking as he comes to her aid time and again despite being warned off by his boss, and his brothers in law enforcement. All he wants is justice for Izzie and to prove that he is honest, reliable and worthy of respect….and her undying love.
The crime is complex, tainting everyone from Tribal Council members to neighboring ranchers, and even Izzie. She is forced to confront how she turned away from Clay when he stood accused. Her regret is palpable, but Clay is completely closed off. Izzie has to abandon all subtlety to break through to him, including following him home one fateful evening.
As the conspiracy unravels, Clay and Izzie triumph over a gang of thugs using his wily Apache skills and her resolve. It was a great moment that anticipates the reveal of the puppeteer behind the drug operation in coming chapters. By the end of the story, Clay gets the girl, regains his status and joins his brothers as a successful, upstanding member of the tribe. I enjoyed the book and hope to learn the fate of the lost Cosen sister and more, in the continuation of the series!
Clay Cosen would like nothing more than to put his dark past behind him. His work of impounding free-roaming cattle is creating new enemies though. Isabel Nosie is a rancher that has her own reason for mistrusting him. She has never forgiven him for her fiancé’s death even though she loved Clay once. It is a death she thinks Clay could have prevented. She soon has no choice but to turn to him as he is the best tracker on the reservation and can hopefully find who is killing her cattle.
Clay is soon a target and a suspect when he attempts to protect Izzie when she is in danger and even as he works to clear her name. Clay is at risk of losing everything: the woman he has never stopped loving and the respect of his family and his tribe.
This is proving to be an amazing series that gives a glimpse into another life. It is full of action and while each book can be read as a standalone readers will get more enjoyment if they read them in order. The characters are complex and intriguing and make for a series that will have readers eagerly reaching for the next book to see what will happen next in the series and to the family. This is also a series that will end up on a lot of keeper shelves.
Hunter Moon is the 2nd book in the Apache Protectors series by Jenna Kernan. This is a great addition to the series. Book 1 is Shadow Wolf about Kino Cosen and Lea, now their story continues to mingle in, but this story is centered on Clay Cosen, Kino’s brother. As a teenager Clay got into some trouble and now back in his home town the people have not yet forgiven or forgotten about his past. Then he runs into the girl he loved then, Isabel (Izzie) Nosie, he finds that he has not forgotten her. She has not seen Clay for many years and has not yet forgiven him for the past either. Now as Izzie finds herself in a situation of cattle being killed and herself in the middle of danger, she must push past the fact of wanting to keep a part from Clay. She needs the best tracker and Clay is it. So you will definitely need to read this very intriguingly romantic book; and follow as the suspense builds and turns in ways that will keep you reading until you’ve finished the book before putting it down. I do believe that I am truly hooked on Romantic suspense thanks to Jenna Kernan! I highly recommend this book and series. Thank you for another great read!
She was doing the best she could keeping her fathers ranch going for her brothers.
He was doing the best he could to stay out of trouble, keep his job, and not get blamed for something he didn't do.
Clay may have had to take in her cattle for being loose, but when Izze asks Clay for his help, he can't tell her no. He liked her spunk and her spirit to keep the farm going. He's told he can't help her, but he does when she gets shot at, and her cattle keep dying.
They realize that the love that they had as kids, is still there. The only reason she was with his friend was to be able to see him, she finally goes against her mother and finds the love she's had for him is still there.
They open the doors to cartels with new bosses, marriage, and Clay given the respect he's always wanted.
Read the rest of the books to hear more about kino, helping his stubborn future bride. Gabe and the woman mixed in with cartels that he never stopped loving, and lastly Clyine, man of tradition fighting an Angelo FBI agent who had adopted their sister, Jovanna.
4 law abiding apache men who saved the women they came to love, while protecting their tribe and finding their baby sister.
Another great addition to the Apache Protectors series! Chock full of suspense as we try to figure out who is setting up Izzie and what is really happening on the reservation. It was fun catching up with Kino & Lea again too. Clay Cosen stupidly got into trouble as a teenager, and no one around town is willing to let him forget it or stop gossiping about it.
Isabel Nosie hasn't seen him in years, and wasn't willing to hear him out years ago when he wanted to explain things to her. Now she's got trouble on her land is approaches Clay to help her. He's the best tracker around.
Strange happenings are making many suspicious about who is up to no good. Will they be able to put the pieces of the puzzle together before Clay or Izzie get into any more trouble over it?
** Received free in exchange for an honest review **
Great continuation of this impressive mini-series. The second Cosen brother is Clay. Unlike his lawmen brothers, he has a criminal history stemming from his youth. And an aversion to firearms as a result. But his family stood by him and now he is devoted to his grandmother-headed clan. But in his past is also his first love, Izzie. She is now struggling to hold onto the ranching business for her young brothers, and there's big trouble on the grazing land she uses. She asks for Clay's tracking help and the teenaged fire between them re-ignites. But Clay wonders if she's luring him back into criminal activity. Written with skill and sensitivity, with beautiful phrasing like "she cultivated patience" and "everything that moves leaves tracks," Jenna Kernan continues to be a friend of the Apache culture she honors in her wonderful stories.
Hunter Moon, Book Two of Apache Protectors does not disappoint! The characters are well developed, the story moves at a great pace, and is full of lots of suspense and intrigue! I liked that we get to know another Cosen brother, this time it's Clay's story. After trouble with the law as a teenager, Clay is back home, where people don't forget or forgive. He also runs into Izzie, an old girlfriend he still loves. I don't want to spoil any of the story for you, so no plot hints. Just know that's there's suspense, intrigue, romance and a read that is hard to put down! If you've read book one, Shadow Wolf, you will appreciate that Kino and Lea's story is continued also.
Author Jenna Kernan has written another great book! I'm excited to read the next one!
I did not want to put this book down. It was the perfect blend of mystery, romance, action, and suspense. I loved the hero, Clay Cosen. He was a hero in every sense of the word and very worthy of the heroine's love. Clay's brother's were just as intriguing as Clay, and I will definitely be reading their books as well.
"With attention to cultural details and ranch life, Kernan’s second Apache Protectors book proves her strong storytelling abilities. Without a doubt, fans will be left anxious for the next Cosen brothers story" (RT Book Reviews, 4 stars).
**I received this book in exchange for an honest review** I really like this Intrigue series by Jenna Kernan. They all can be read stand alone, but bring stories from characters from other books in the series. The action is great, and the romance keeps me interested. I definitely recommend this book.
I liked how this second chance romance gets jumbled up with intriguing suspense. I have enjoyed this series and believe that with growing up and maturing that trust can be rebuilt between Izzie and 'bad boy' Clay. It will draw you in and you won't want to put it down until you know 'who dun it'.
This book pulled me in from the very beginning. I couldn't put it down until I knew who was responsible for killing the cattle and how the romance between Isabel and Clay turned out. I was not disappointed! I received this book through Goodreads first reads
