A lady shouldn’t desire her butler. But what’s a woman to do when the man fascinates her? She must taste him…or dismiss him.
And how does a man kill his scandalous desire to kiss his charming employer? Especially when he must protect her from an unknown villain…as well as his dastardly need to possess her?
* * *
The lovely widow at No. 10 Dudley Crescent hopes to lead a merry life without any husband to replace the elderly one she recently buried. Yet Lady Ranford finds herself in a pickle. Her new butler, Finnley, is not only the most obstinate man she’s ever met, but he’s a virile enigma.
She’s never been lured to naughtiness with a man. Heaven knows, she certainly shouldn’t fantasize about the tall, dark, scowling creature who runs her household like a finely tuned clock.
But she can’t help herself. She needs to taste him—or dismiss him.
Finnley, poor fellow, has a few risqué dreams of his own about how he’d like to handle the delectable widow. Alone in his rooms, he resolves to deny how her humor riddles his mind and how her beauty steals his breath away.
None of his solutions are proper.
All of his desires are quite…dear me…scandalous.
But what’s a butler to do when the very life of his beloved employer is at stake? And he cannot control his need to protect her and…ahem…bed her?
***A spicy Regency romance!***

Lady Ranford the lovely widow at No. 10 Dudley Crescent is now coming out of mourning & hopes to lead a merry life without an elderly husband. Her new butler, Finnley, is not only the most obstinate man she's ever met, but he's a virile enigma who tempts her.
Finnley, poor fellow, has a job to do not only is he a butler or is he? But he has to protect Alicia as there have been two suspicious deaths in the household.
A well written engrossing read with very well portrayed characters. I loved both Finn & Alicia whilst their attraction sizzled it was the verbal banter that raised this book above the norm. Finn isn’t just the efficient butler & I loved how we were drip fed his backstory & who he really was. A lovely romance which also had the added element of crime & mystery. I read it in two sittings & didn't want to put it down. The author always writes an engrossing read & this is the start to what looks to be another brilliant series

This was a delightfully entertaining novella. It had a murder mystery to solve and the engaging but frowned upon romance with the lady of the house and her handsome butler. I liked the main characters of Alicia and Finnley, both were bereft of love when growing up and now unfortunately their attraction to each other would not be accepted by Society. The next book sounds interesting too. This book was just right for when you want a diverting read for a few hours. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Finnley has been sent in by the Home Office to determine if murder has been committed in the home of the late Lord Ranford and if so, by whom. He is attracted to the mistress of the house and hopes she is not responsible for murder.

This is a cute story of a butler (or so the heroine thinks) and the mistress of the house. While he tries to persuade her that nothing can come of their attraction, Alicia sees signs that he is more than he admits. Their banter is fun and humorous. When she finally realizes that he will not break with tradition she decides to give him a taste of his own medicine. He does not like it. I enjoyed watching them battle each other. Alicia is cold and withdrawn while Finnley does to break down her walls. She's hurt by his lies but cannot turn away from him for long.

I liked the opposing points of view. I especially liked hearing Finnley's voice. His was more interesting and open. Of course, he knew why he was in Alicia's home as does the reader. The only one in the dark was Alicia which makes her play for him all the more intriguing. She knew he had secrets but she did not know all the secrets in her house.

With this introduction to Dudley Crescent, I look forward to more stories in this series.

HER BEGUILING BUTLER is the first book in Cerise Deland's new Delightful Doings in Dudley Crescent series. I received this book as an advanced reader's copy for and honest review. And I am honestly delighted at how much I enjoyed reading it. It is reminiscent of classic historical romance literature without being overly cliche. Lady Ranford is a young widow who just wants to get through mourning the man her father arranged for her to marry so she can live out her days on her terms. Unfortunately since the death of her husband, Lord Ranford, her staff seems to end up missing or dead. And the new butler, with whom Lady Ranford finds beguiling and bewildering, is asking a lot of questions while at the same time withholding secrets of his own. In this first book in the series, the reader will find plenty of romance, mystery, and intrigue to keep them turning to the next page. And Ms Deland does a good job of setting the reader up for the next book in the series. I'm looking forward to the next Delightful Doing in Dudley Crescent.

No matter what time period Cerise’s books take place in, I have always enjoyed every single book I’ve read and this book was no exception. It is the first in the Delightful Doings in Dudley Crescent series. This time period is actually one of my favorites and was a ‘delight’ to read.

Lady Alicia Ranford is such a great character, recently widowed, finds herself attracted to the butler, lord have mercy what a scandal. The butler is Finnley, but a butler in name only as he is in disguise to find out what treachery hides in the Ranford house. As they get to know each other and begin an affair, he has to hide his true identity until a possible murder can be brought to light.

What a great mystery to the story, I could not put the book down as I needed to find out who the culprit was. The interaction between the hero and heroine also had me sighing and truly wishing I could find my own ‘butler’. Their love affair is what great historical romances are all about.

I love Dudley Crescent. Lady Ranford is a wealthy widow with a very attractive butler. Will she break the ultimate taboo? Yes, she will, and she'll have a lot of fun doing it too!

It's been a while since I've read a historical romance, but, like Lady Ranford, I just couldn't resist a beguiling butler. This books was fun, historically accurate, and, considering the upstairs/downstairs nature of the romance, fairly realistic. Finnley and Lady Ranford are fabulous together, funny and sweet and head over heels in love. The setting was beautifully described and the supporting characters were vivid and interesting.

I can't wait for the next book in the series so I can return to Dudley Crescent.

Her beguiling butler!!

I absolutely loved it and look forward to Cerises next book in the series! This was a very cleverly written murder mystery romance!! I loved Finnelys character! He was a master at investigation until undermined by a beautiful client! And Alisia was so bowled over by her attraction to her butler she was ready to shuck it all for his love!! I whirlpool the ending but I will say Ms. DeLand is brilliant! I am going to read every book in this series! I love her style of writing!#

This was an enjoyable read! I liked both the romance and the mystery.

I felt like there was one thing that kind of confused me:

Anyway, that was the only thing that confused me, and aside from a few typos, this story was fun to read! I am interested to see where the series is going.

I like this author, but this book has a really strange tone. It starts off by completely exaggerating the MFC's helplessness after a fall and the way her "butler" paws at her to make sure she's OK edges past sexy into "ugh". The reader has no idea of the circumstances of the fall--is MFC just a klutz around MMC? There's the introduction of a couple of secondary characters who seem like they should be part of the central mystery, but are they really? It feels like you've been thrust into the book with no backstory. Just lots of scenes with heaving breasts and cockstands and MFC basically demanding that MMC satisfy her.

Eventually, the madcap tone fades and an actual plot, with a decent mystery, emerges. But right after a scene of physical danger, when MMC'S face is sliced with a knife and his hand is gushing blood, the book suddenly becomes a tame Regency romance, with no references to his injuries, and the mystery completely takes a backseat.

I wanted to like the MC's but don't feel like I got a good sense of who they really were. The MFC, in particular, seemed babyish and demanding, as if by batting her eyes (which the reader is told at least 50 times are purple) she'll always get her own way. I didn't like how she turned on MMC when he tried to explain to her his side of the situation and why they had to wait to marry. The storyline didn't do him justice.

I can only guess that the author was trying to do too much here and so settled on a "comedy-mystery-romance" hybrid that just seems strange in the end.

In the first book of the Delightful Doings in Dudley Crescent series, Lady Alicia Ranford finds herself admiring more than her butler, Wallace Finnley's, work ethics. Alicia lost her husband over a year ago and a lot of suspicious circumstances were surrounding his death. Soon after Lord Ranford's demise, the valet disappeared and the previous family butler reported odd things going on in the home and was later found dead. Working undercover, Finnley is trying to find out who is trying to harm Lady Ranford. Accidents are happening too often and they are not just coincidental. The big flaw in his investigation is the beautiful Lady Ranford. During the war, Finnley was friends with her brother, Jerome. He feels that he owes it to his friend to protect Lady Ranford from further harm. Lady Ranford insists that Finnley travel with her to the funeral of her old Governess but she also insists that he shares her bed for one night. What is Finnley going to do, to not only protect Alicia from harm, but protect his heart as well? Will Alicia be able to forgive Finnley when she discovers his true identity or will she choose to forget the one man that showed her what love and intimacy is all about? I absolutely loved this book! It is filled with mystery and romance! I cannot wait to read the second book in this series! Author Cerise DeLand continues to mesmerize me with her wonderful talent!

Finn (Beaumont) & Alicia

This book 📕 was entertaining about spicy 🔥🔥romance spies secrets and murder. The premise is that there have been 2 unexplained murders in the h house and the Home Office sends H (govt agent- Viscount) to pose as the butler. The H is a tall handsome strong man that is instantly attracted to h. The h is a lovely widow that her beauty beguiles the H. As H begins to ferret out information from the other employees to solve these cases however he is also responsible for her safety. At first H suspects her as the guilty party but as he gets to know h he realizes how kind and tender she is so he rules her out. Most of the book 📕 is about the investigation and their romance heating up until the make love. At which point they become obsessed with each other. They separate once the murders are solved and h finds out who H is and promptly asks him to leave without listening to his explanation. She feels betrayed because he lied to her and she vows she will never be in a relationship where there isn’t any trust. At the end they come together for a ball at the H ancestral home. The main purpose of the festivities is to get h come to him so that he can declare himself and ask her to marry him. She accepts and they get their HEA. It’s a cute book 📕 but a little tame even the criminals weren’t all that scary and their passionate scenes were kind of glossed over

Alicia & Finley

Love is suspense and romance of these two character's. Lady Alisa is a strong independent recently widowed 🚺 woman. Who didn't have a loving, respectful marriage. Married to a ruthless man who didn't care for his wife. Known for his wandering eye, bad behavior, wasteful spending on gambling, women, along w/ abusive Tastes in the bedroom. When Mysteriously his lordship & butler died. Then the valet disappeared. Inquiries were were provided to the bow runners. That is when Home office decided & assigned Detective Finley to go Undercover as the new butler. Little did Alicia know that there would be history w/ Finley thru his time in Waterloo w/ her deceased brother fellow Officer Jerome. Made a promise to Alicia during his deathbed.Though her father would not allow her hand in marriage w/ Lord Finley. Find out what happened in the Murder mystery As well as the romance that builds between the lady of the house and her butler. The plot has suspense, admiration, cover ups and deceit.

Oh, the goings on in No. 10 Dudley Crescent...
Seriously, if you don't make a point of reading this book then you will be missing out on a delightfully witty, amorous story that is also a cleverly written murder-mystery. It really is well worth reading!
I loved the way that lady Ranford sets her cap for her Butler, Finnley and then tries every trick in the book to seduce him. Mind you, he really doesn't need to much encouragement in this department as he is totally smitten with her too.
Cerise DeLand has a wonderful gift in her story telling and as I thoroughly enjoyed it, I am very happy to recommend this book.

Tempting your help

Alicia had a selfish womanizing husband who died mysteriously! Then another household member broke his neck! Alicia keeps falling and having accidents!? These were never discussed!? Finn is not who he seems he is hired as a Butler but is so much more! I think in her heart Alicia knows this man she's enticed is so much more but her decisions and attitude make it seem like she wants him to be beneath her and just a Butler!? I like Finn taking his rightful place but it seems mostly for her and society!! No gratitude for solving the mystery or saving her life? Finn is the real MVP of this story that makes the HEA!

I enjoyed the who done it and you didn't know exactly who the murder(s) were which kept the story moving.
At times I really didn't care for the h, she wanted the H and made it difficult for him. The H was loyal and smart and played the Butler to perfection. I wanted the h to discover who she was related too, but that wasn't brought up to her.

There is lovemaking outside of marriage, heat level 5 out of 5. There is some romance but it was more lust filled than romantic passion.

Some suspense, no cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA and bedroom door wide opened. (ljb)

So enjoyable!!

The title is what interested me first. It promised to have a different look at Regency life. The book did not disappoint. It was funny and sweet , intriguing and somewhat sad. I didn’t always agree with the FMC. I did think her a bit of a shrew at a certain point when she didn’t get her way and realize the position the MMC was in. I did like it that she loved him even though she thought him to be but a butler. It was wonderful that the MMC was loyal, loving & steadfast throughout the entire story! Thank you for sharing with us Ms DeLand.

It was really good until the heroine did something really stupid and unreasonable. She demanded he marry her tomorrow or they were finished. He asked for 3 days. She said no. Wtf? We find out, when they were apart, which was her doing, that she wished he would try and win her back. That is manipulative and awful. I also hate when couples are separated for a long period of time. That’s a deal breaker for me. I’m sorry I wasted my time on this. Could have been great.

Very entertaining! I loved the premise! Lady of nobility falling in love with her butler...I mean, it doesn't get much more fun than that!

You didn't have to wait long to be pulled into the chemistry with these two. You jump right into their hidden feelings for one another and since this is a shorter than your average novel, it doesn't take long for their desires to come to light. Still, the story doesn't suffer for moving quickly. The characters are still nicely developed to allow you to believe in their journey and their feelings.

I really like Lady Ranford's character. She seemed very down to earth and very realistic. She knew how society worked, yet for once in her life, she cared more about finally doing something for herself. This was a story of her starting over and finding someone to love her for her. Fin was not your average butler...it's no secret he's not really meant to spend his life in servitude, but he's on a mission. Fin was a character that I found to have a lot of integrity and strength. He was always trying to help, and always trying to do the right thing. I really loved these two together...they just complimented each other so well.

Overall, a delightful story!

Not Being Who You Are

The plot started out slow but picked up with suspense. The drama unfolded slowly also. The romance was from the beginning to the end as well as the action. A very passionate and exciting book to read.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I couldn't put it down.I thought it well written with many layers to the story. There is mystery, suspense, and of course romance - something for everyone. I enjoyed getting to learn about the characters over the course of the book, some are more than they seem and others are not. I adored the banter between Alicia and Finn, the two main characters. I also liked that Finn was an enigma that we slowly learn more about. I'm looking forward to reading more in this series.

Go ahead and add Finnley to the list of the most drool worthy, swoon worthy heroes. An excellent read that moves quickly with a man on a mission to find a murderer and claim the woman he loves.

This is the first book I have read of Cerise DeLand and will not be my last. This is my favourite genre and she did it great justice. If there were more stars I would have given it a six. An enthralling romance, murder- mystery, the plot was well thought out holding the audience captive. I could not put the book down. I recommend that you make sure you have time to spare when you sit down to read it. The characters were all very human and relatable. The author has managed to create a very realistic dialogue with humour and emotion. You feel as if you are there with them. The story is about a beautiful young widow that is just coming out of mourning. There have been suspect occurrences at her residence, one of the events is the death of the butler. She has hired a new man that begins to get her attention in an unexpected way. She is determined to live her life on her terms as she is now free from her selfish father and her very unworthy husband. She intends for the butler to play a very important role in her life and he is powerless to refuse her. As she is intelligent she realises that there are secrets that the butler is withholding from her. As the reader you know he is working under cover for the home office to uncover if murder has been committed. The fact that he can't reveal his true identity causes a rift between them and they go their separate ways. After all mystery is solved, will our hero be able to get his lovely Lady back?
I recommend this book for an adult audience as there are very beautiful intimate moments described in detail. I enjoyed every moment reading this book, well worth my time.
