A fresh new take on modern meditation, 24 Hour Mindfulness shows what it might be like to bring awareness, calm and kindness to wherever we are and whatever we are doing. Written by Rohan Gunatillake, one of the world's most creative voices in mindfulness and meditation, this eBook short presents sixteen portable exercises to help us keep in touch with the present moment, even during the busiest of days.
A nice account of a day filled with Mindfulness. If you haven't made Mindfulness a part of your life, this would persuade you to. A nice read. Be mindful. Have a happy and better life.
I thought the overall idea of this book wouldn't work -- author describes his attempts to stay mindful throughout the day -- but it wasn't that bad. It is probably saved by being very short. In any case, this is an easy read and gives some good ideas for how to integrate mindfulness into the whole day and not just the 20 minutes in the morning when you're doing focused practice. Still, there's nothing in here that's greatly new or that will blow your mind...
Having enjoyed the app Buddhify2 for quite a while, this booklet seems like a familiar friend. It's does add nice flow and depth to what are normally short, but lovely situational guided meditations.
I am looking forward to the longer book and the additional insights and techniques it will offer. I recommend both this book and the app. Kristen
This book is pretty average when it comes to discussing how you can actually get down to practicing mindfulness. Throughout the book the author entails his daily activities and each chapter represents a time zone. It doesn't really get down to the main issue of how can a begginer reading this book can benefit from it when he/she doesn't really have the slightest bit of idea to even calm down the chatter of the mind, let alone practicing mindfulness in a busy environment 24x7. It is understandable that the book is short and hence it describes in a brief format. But in my opinion, there must have been atleast 1 technique or principle that could have been emphasized upon so that the reader takes away atleast one idea from the book and could have practiced it in daily life and built upon that further.
Everyone should read this book. At this time, of global upheaval and Covid19, we all need a reprieve. I've followed the techniques in this book, and lowered my blood pressure by 30 points.
The News no longer upsets me, and I can focus day by day. I've told many about 24 hour mindfulness, and hopefully more of us can overcome the madness, and become more productive. I studied Yoga for many years, but got away from it raising my children, and dealing with multiple deaths. I have found myself again, and loving every moment of it.
Very short walk through the author's day, noting points at which mindfulness practices can be built into the normal events of every day.
It's a powerful idea, which I first came across in Buddhism for Mothers. The idea I took from there (you can turn difficult or consuming moments into a mindfulness practice of their own) was transformative.
This short walk (through a life quite different to my own) was a reminder that even now I don't have small children demanding my absolute attention, there are still plenty of opportunities to benefit from the same concept.
As someone who is still learning about Meditation, this book came in very handy, like a diary entry keeping count on time and hours, alongside explaining how to be mindful during your whole day! Would recommend to anyone who is practicing and trying meditation and help themselves mentally.
This book may be short but it has plenty of tips on practicing mindfulness during the day no matter what kind of work you do. The techniques are simple and take just moments to help make a bad day better.
Written in a similar fashion to a journal, the author takes us through his day, chronologically, stopping to explain where and how he uses mindfulness to help him have a more fulfilling day. I enjoyed it.
In this book the author Rohan Gunatillake answers the question "What would it be like to free mindfulness and meditation from the confines of being a dedicated activity we only do for ten or twenty minutes a day, and instead bring it naturally and effortlessly into wherever we are and whatever we're doing?" An inspiring, practical and helpful guide for everybody seeking more awareness and mindfullness in the racing hours of the everyday life.
Nothing really new here, but good reminders nonetheless. An easy, quick read that might bear repeating, especially when confronted with the dilemma of how do I add something relaxing to my already overcrowded schedule.
Not what I was expecting, this is just a very detailed account of the authors day from waking to bedtime. No real practical advive other than a question at the end of each time section you have been reading..... And to learn the mindfulness techniques you need to get the next book to put it all into practice.
