Rate this book
If you're going gluten-free, giving up some of your favorite foods is downright unfair and intimidating (and if your kids are the ones who have celiac disease or gluten intolerance, it can be even more difficult!). The good news is that giving up gluten doesn't mean saying good-bye to all the comforting foods you love—and Jilly and Jessie Lagasse are here to prove it. From breakfasts and lunches to appetizers, mains, and of course, scrumptious desserts—with dairy-free options as well—Jilly and Jessie make gluten-free eating simple and extraordinarily delicious.

Fancy and fun eats that you wouldn't guess are GF. Like that they go into the enormous variety of GF flours and what works best for baking, cooking, etc. They also make suggestions for what premade mixes to get for their recipes which makes it easier and more likely that the recipe will come out right. Excited to try the Savory Cheddar Scones with Red Onion Marmalade, Ooey Gooey Cinnamon Rolls, and the Mediterranean Quiche. Wish that there were more vegetarian recipes and any vegan recipes.

This is an awesome gluten free cookbook.
So far I have cooked the Crawfish pie, Shepard's Pie with Mashed Potatoes, and the Chicken and Dumplings. All were really good. Some were a little more involved but still doable.

I love this cookbook! The meatloaf recipe is a keeper, I use GF brown gravy mix instead of the gravy recipe for a time saver.

Publication Date: October 14, 2014 Title: The Lagasse Girls’ Big Flavor, Bold Taste and No Gluten – Jilly Lagasse & Jessie Lagasse Swanson –– Unconfirmed Pages – Perseus Books Group, De Capo Press – 9780738217871– Electronic ARC –4 Stars

I’ve always felt I had a tolerance to gluten, I was never diagnosed. It took me a while to even understand the difference between gluten intolerance and actual Celiac Disease. Although I knew it could be genetic, I was surprised that between two sisters (the Lagasse Sisters) that one has a gluten intolerance and another has Celiac Disease. I was even more surprised that Celiac patients could die from eating foods with gluten. Although information is put into an educational format, the fact that the sisters give a little background on their fight with gluten, helps readers to understand more about the condition. And it’s always good to read experiences from someone who actually deals with this issue.

When I think of gluten free, the last thing I think about is comfort food. However, this book has tons of comfort recopies and much more. There appetizers, soups, full meals and desserts. Some of my favorites are the Shrimp Stuffed Mushrooms, Cucumber and Smoked Salmon Rolls with Chive Cream, Perfect Blueberry Muffins, Mediterranean Quiche, Cuban Black Bean Soup and Mookie’s Three-Cheese Mac. I have many more, but if I mentioned them all, this would be an awfully long review.

I like the fact that the Lagasse sisters shows us that we can still enjoy foods, our favorite foods, gluten-free style. One of my issues when trying to conform to a gluten free diet a while back was the price of gluten-free ingredients, so many of these recipes might be expensive to make. I spent a lot making Mookie’s Three-Cheese Mac. Keep this in mind when doing your research.

Overall, this is a great cookbook from the sisters and on occasion I look forward to making many of the recipes in this book in the future.

The title says it all! I found this cookbook to be such an inspiration in the kitchen, and really kicked me into gear with cooking gluten-free dishes that were flavorful, and bold when it comes to my particular cooking style. I would always keep is simple, or make what I was used to, just omitting out the gluten in the recipe. After finding a few recipes that I wanted to try, and cooking them for my family, I realized this cookbook was a hit in my household. My family members are very wary on trying gluten-free dishes because they can eat it, but with the dishes I tried from The Lagasse Girls’ Big Flavor, Bold Taste—and No Gluten cookbook, they are looking forward to nights when I am cooking dinner, no gluten included! What I found very helpful and comforting was it wasn’t just recipes filling the pages, but interaction with the one reading through the cookbook. I also loved that it’s informative for those who are just starting a gluten-free lifestyle, because it has what to have in your pantry, as well as foods to doubt check to make sure they are safe for those who cannot consume gluten, and plenty of information that is important to know. I am recommending this cookbook to anyone who is gluten-free, or knows someone that is, because it is a must to have. I plan on buying a copy once it is published.

What a fabulous cook book. Everyone, whatever diet they follow should be allowed to eat attractive, flavoursome food. Sisters, Jessie and Jilly Lagasse, have had to alter their diets due to health reasons. This book they have written is full of gluten-free recipes for starters, mains, sides and desserts from the likes of Warm Apple and Brie Tartlets to Perfect Blueberry Muffins to Jilly's Ginger Sesame Pork Stir Fry to Chocolate Raspberry Layer Cake with Chocolate Buttercream Frosting. The recipes they have devised show that a whole family can share and enjoy a menu without any family member being excluded due to diet restrictions.

I enjoyed reading the introduction about the girls and their history with food intolerance. Food sensitivity is an important issue and this book could be an answer to someone's prayers.

The book lists essential store cupboard ingredients. The recipes are clear with mouthwatering photographs.

The naturally gluten free recipes in this book look absolutely delicious. It contains a good number of comfort foods that you miss when you go gluten free.

I was disappointed that the recipes that included gluten free flours used a specific store bought brand of gluten free flour blend rather than using individual flours. Having baked gluten free for many years, I know that using a different flour blend than specified can result in a less than desirable final product. I admit that I expected the Lagasse girls to have created their own flour blend rather than use a store-bought mix.

I liked that this book included personal stories and beautiful photos which made it feel like a wonderful family cookbook.

Disclosure: I received a digital ARC copy for the purpose of this review.

I've been looking for a book like this for ages. One of my friends needs to eat gluten free and I needed some inspiration to plan nice meals for her rather than always resorting to shop bought snack type meals.

I love the lists of things to use and some of the meal ideas are definately joining our '52 new recipe' challenge this year. I will have a lovely source to choose new ideas from.

I think I'm going to get her a copy of this book aswell.

I received a copy of this cookbook on netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I have a family member that I recently learned is allergic to gluten and I had no idea what I could make for her. This cookbook gives me tons of recipes that I know that not only will she enjoy them but maybe my developmentally delayed child would benefit from.
Thank you so much to the authors for making cooking gluten free easy and actually fun!!!
I will be looking for further cookbooks!!!

I like that this cookbook, as they state, uses ingredients that you can actually find in the grocery store like Arrowhead Mills Gluten Free All Purpose Baking Mix. The recipes are well written and look yummy, but many of them seem very labor intensive. This is gluten free gourmet cooking. And if that is what you are looking for, you will enjoy the recipes in this cookbook. I received this book free to review from Netgalley.

Simply delicious.

The tiramisu recipe sounds like heaven. I can't wait to try it out. The cinnamon rolls look the closest to regular ones that I have seen. I can't decide what recipe to try first I want to make them all.

This book was lazy. I didn't find one recipe that inspired me. It contained nothing new and even had their dad's spices in the recipes. blah! It had basic ameican recipes but changed flour to gluten free. boring

To me this book felt like average run-of-the-mill food. I think it would be great for someone who is transitioning from a typical American diet to a gluten-free way of eating.
