A gorgeous first picture book that’s full of babies!
Babies don’t walk; they ride. Babies don’t run; they glide. Little ones will love spotting themselves in this book full of babies — being carried around, tossed in the air, riding in strollers, and whizzing around the supermarket in carts. Beautiful, humorous artwork from Lauren Tobia and a gentle rhyming text from Kathy Henderson make this the perfect first picture book.

BIG NEWS. Yesterday my mom and grandma packed me up in my stroller and took me to a place they said was called the library. And I am not kidding when I tell you there were no less than ONE BAJILLION BOOKS in there! Grandma started picking up a whole armful of them and we headed to the front desk and I thought, holy moly, they're going to put us in the poorhouse, but they just put them over a little thing that went beep-boop and we left. Mom said at the library you can take the books for FREE if you just bring them back when you're done! What a time to be alive!!!
Anyway, this was my first library book. There are not very many words. But the illustrations are very neat. There are all kinds of babies and moms and dads going for walks, riding a train, feeding ducks at a park, and lots of other things I would like to try someday. I enjoyed staring at the pages for a good long time. -M
A wonderfully diverse book with the refrain, "Babies don't walk, they ride!"
What everyone at work loved most about this were the little details throughout: the pride flag, the little cat perched on a wall, the babies of all colors, the families of all types. Just very sweet.
I knew there were a lot of ways babies get around, but I'd never given it much thought just how many ways there are. Each way suits the needs of the family involved – there's more than one way to wear a sling and more than 1 type of buggy. I imagined what happened next and how the characters lived outside of the scenes, the illustrations enticed me to ponder before turning over the page. Definitely a book to reread and spot different things and create different stories from!
Illustrations of multi cultural families who live in the city, accompany the short rhyming sentences of this picture book for a very young audience. The book follows several families who live on the same street. These families all have young children that are going places. From school to the store and on to an inner city plot of land where the neighbors grow vegetables, flowers and keep bees. The text explores how the young ones get to these places with short sentences. Soft illustrations have a lot to explore or point out when reading aloud. The British author and illustrator did a wonderful job approaching the popular topic of transportation in a young audience friendly way.
