As foretold, Ruby's bell transforms into a sword! He and a defeated Haru are transported to the dwelling of Dalmatian, another Rave bearer (who reveals Ruby's bell is his sword Holy Bell).

The River Saly is revealed to be the Silver Ray (it's an anagram).

Ogre is revealed as a Goldclaimer, which I knew/remembered ahead of time, but I was momentarily thrown off by his use of a Sinclaire beforehand.

Reina sacrifices herself to destroy Silver Ray.

The volume ends with Doryu still undefeated, but Haru is gearing up for Round Two.

****

Reina side boob and armpit-meat on the title page...!

Semi-chibi Celia, Elie, and Reina boobies and armpits...!

"I never thought I'd be defeated... by someone this cute." (。

Reina's boobies when she's made her decision...!!! 🤤

"I'm happy to have loved another person before I die." (~ ̄³ ̄)~

****

Plue's Adventure Journal is a cute idea, but I'm not gonna bother trying to win it while reading online on my phone. I'll take solace in the possibility that I probably did it when I read this volume like seventeen years ago or whenever.

No, muere bien muerto.

Hiro Mashima really has you on pins and needles. Musica versus Ogre! I will tell you, out of all the volumes of Rave Master, this one has the single most shocking turn of events…and that alone is why this volume was given such a high rating. While the previous volume had me itching for this one…the way 16 went leaves you absolutely having to dive into volume 18 as soon as possible. The characters in this volume are at their best and some of the emotion really bleeds out into the situations you encounter. Excellent manga volume at peak entertainment levels!

It has been a minute since I picked up Rave Master. After taking time away to get my physical book TBR down, I have returned. And What a volume to return to. This was such an emotional and game changing volume for Musica and Reina. I cannot say anything more without spoiling the story but WOW, just WOW!!!

Hiro Mashima, Rave Master, vol. 16 (Tokyopop, 2002)

The first part of the big two-part battle takes place when Musica faces off against Ogre—but as he's not strong enough alone, he needs to find himself an ally. The one he finds is Reina, about the last he'd expect to come to his aid. I'm always impressed when a manga blindsides me with an emotional response I never saw coming, and this volume did it. I had thought the series was going to flag after the first story arc ended, but I was quite wrong, and I'm very happy about that. ****

This volume is SO awesome!!!!!! I love how Musica and Reina worked together!! It was so sad at the end when Reina died, but at least the two was able to tell each other their feelings! Well, Reina did, but Musica cried when she died. The Silver Ray's power was epic!

Unlike Fruits Basket. This is also a manga that I would like and continue on reading for the rest of my life. Even though, I already finished reading this whole series. I just love going back to it and reading it once more, than again, and again.

😢

This volume really tugged at the heartstrings. I didn't want Reina to die after finally finding love but I understood her sacrifice and need for redemption. You earned it. RIP.
