A Valsa Inacabada

Rate this book

Ele beijara-a. Ela fugira.

It’s really rare to me to not finish a book, so I usually keep going until it is over. This book is based on historical facts (what makes it interesting) mixed to fiction. I really enjoyed to learn more about Empress Sissi, Austria and its political issues. Now I want to read more about this topic, I want to read the Empress’s poems, and I want to watch a movie about her life. However, I found the narrative shallow, sometimes tedious, and the fictional characters were not convincing.

I think the way this story is told is good enough to be watched, but not good enough to be read through almost 500 pages.

The plot begins with Empress Sissi going incognito to a mask ball, where she met a young man from a lower class, with whom she flirted and exchanged some few letters. It is through the narrative of their lives that the author presents us what is happening in Austria, the prejudices and the growth of nazi’s ideas, we learn how the World War I started and how all this affected the common people’s life.
