Jeanne Narren is awakened one night by a pounding on her door—a huge, gorgeous man called Eland falls onto her, begging for water. Moved by compassion, Jeanne lets him in.

She does not know he is Shareem, a level three, fleeing the closure of DNAmo, and hunted through the streets. Eland is grateful for the help, but knows he can't endanger Jeanne by staying. But Jeanne has treated him like a human being, not a lab experiment, and he can't quite forget her.

Eland strives to stay alive and search the city for the Shareem called Rees, who might be able to help him off planet. At the same time Jeanne hunts for Eland, intrigued by this man with blue eyes who makes her feel beautiful. She meets other Shareem, and Judith, a bar owner who harbors them. When Eland finds Jeanne again, she is ready for the experience only Shareem can provide. But the danger is real, and Eland must flee or pay with his life.

Eland and Jeanne, a prequel to the Shareem series, takes place chronologically twenty years before Rees (Book 1). The story was originally published as a short (4500-word) story called Eland—now revised and expanded into a 36,000-word, fifteen chapter novella.

This book started life as a very short, free story called "Eland", published by Ellora's Cave. I've revised and expanded it considerably, taking it from a 4500-word story to a 36,000 word novella. It has maybe a few paragraphs that are the same as the original! I've always wanted to take a closer look at Eland's and Jeanne's tale. It is a "prequel" for the Shareem series, however it does not have to be read first. You *can* read it first, or wait until you have more of a taste of the Shareem.

Shareem reading order:
Rees
Maia & Rylan (a short story)
Rio
Aiden & Ky
Calder
Braden
Justin
Kieran
Eland and Jeanne (anywhere in this mix)

I read this series years ago. Back then the editing was atrocious. I found out recently that the author got the rights to her books back from Ellora's Cave and re edited and re issued the series. I had not read this prequel to the series so this was a nice treat. I always loved this series and am so glad to be reading it again. The premise of this series is different from most of the sci-fi erotica I've read. If you like gorgeous, hot, alpha hunks with a little twist in their DNA then you will love the Shareem.

Shareem, bio-engineered illegally for varying levels of pleasure to be sold off planet, are exposed. The scientists arrested and the Shareem to be executed. However, sympathetic staff have helped the Shareem to escape and now they are in hiding around the planet. This story sets the stage and deals with Shareem Eland and the woman who aids him when he falls at her door. He proves to her he is not inhuman and she works to get them legal standing. Throughout there is plenty of Dom sex as that is his specialty. Good explanation of the world and introduction to several Shareem who will have their own stories.

The First part about Eland and Jeanne was good and exciting as usual, but the Maia and Rylan story was heartbreaking. But alls well that ends well.

Enjoyed learning about the Shareem and what they were going through to get freed. Great meeting so many characters and delving into a little of who they are.

Hot Prequel to the Tales of the Shareem

THE STORY: The Shareem are an experiment created with the purpose of providing sexual "slaves" for women. They have been genetically created to pleasure women. Held captive at the company that created them, one escapes. When that happens, Shareem are deemed dangerous by the leaders on the planet and the Shareem are ordered destroyed. Many of the Shareem escape and are being hunted in the streets. One night Jeanne, a worker, has a mysterious man come to her door Eland is bigger, stronger, more handsome and sexier than any native man. He needs her help and her compassion compels her to do so. She also finds him intensely attractive sexually. Soon she finds herself engaged in trying to help the Shareem, including Eland. At the same time, she is discovering her own sexuality.

OPINION: This novella is a very erotic novel. The sex is graphic, exotic and plentiful including public sex. Readers should be aware that this is definitely not a sweet gentle love story. At the same time, the relationship between Jeanne and Eland is sweet even as they begin an intense sexual relationship. Because this novella was revised after I had already read the other books in the series, I ended up comparing it with the novels. I didn't end up liking this novella as much as the novels in the series. I really liked seeing the beginning of the Shareem stories and getting glimpses of the Shareem right after their escape was nice. I also did like Jeanne who fights really hard for the rights of the Shareem. Like many of the women in the novels, she is strong and independent and her love for Eland gives her strength to challenge the authority on the planet. I also really enjoyed her discovery of her own sexuality and her acceptance of Eland. Unfortunately, I never got a good sense of Eland and thus never liked him as much as the other Shareem who make cameos. The novella is, however, a good introduction to the series and a good read.

WORTH MENTIONING: ELAND AND JEANNE is a revised and expanded version of the short story Eland.

FINAL DECISION: I thought this story lacked some of the great relationships in the other books in the series. The hot sex is definitely present and there are appearances by favorite Shareem that make the novella fun.

CONNECTED BOOKS: ELAND AND JEANNE is the prequel to the Tales of the Shareem.

STAR RATING: I give this novella 4 stars.

"Eland and Jeanne" by Allyson James. Book 0.5 (a prequel novella) in the Tales of the Shareem series.

*NOTE* This novella was originally a short story called Eland. This version is the expanded novella version released after book 7 but can be read anytime during the series.

I really really enjoyed this prequel novella for this series! Eland and Jeanne are just right for each other. A sci-fi erotic romance story showing readers what it was like when the Shareem first escaped captivity from the genetics company DNAmo. This novella was very erotic with bondage, m/f sex, voyeurism, exhibitionism and a brief glimpse of menage.

The novella may be classified as erotica but I actually found the romance between Eland and Jeanne very apparent. Eland is a level three Shareem, a complete Dom. Jeanne is an ordinary dockworker. When Eland, literally, stumbles into Jeanne's apartment, she doesn't know what he is. When she finds out he's a fugitive on the run and what he really is, and the injustice of his situation, she's determined to help him. Eland doesn't understand why Jeanne wants to help him. He's been programmed for sex and satisfying a woman...and then it's over. Done. But he can't stop thinking of Jeanne.

Erotica aside, this is really a good story. I loved finding out how the Shareem started their lives. If you read this before the rest of the series, you get glimpses into what's to come. And if you read this prequel after all the other books, you are reminded of all the Shareem characters and how they started off. A really fun read.

I really hope the author continues with this series and creates new stories for all the other Shareem out there! I will definitely be reading it!

I love Allyson James/Jennifer Ashley's stories...Shareem forever fan-girl here!
However, I just really wished that this story had not been re-written!
"Eland and Jeanne" is an expanded edition and a watered-down vanilla version of the original short "Eland."
In my opinion "Eland" was short, yes, but steamy and straightforward.
Additionally, in those 20 pages there was more steam than in this entire expanded edition!
Come one, Allsyon James, you gave Jeanne "water" for the shower scene and LEFT OUT Eland laying down the towels on the floor *sigh* That's were we saw how tender Shareem's can be ;)
Feelz like this was re-written to sell the other Shareem stories. Didn't need it, really.
So if you are new to the Shareem series, please go find "Eland," and skip this one.

FINALLY!!! I have been waiting for this one forever. This is the prequel to the Tales of the Shareem. It was wonderful to be able to see Eland and Jeanne's beginning. Jeanne proves to be an incredible woman. She's willing to fight for what she believes in, what she knows is right. Eland falls hard for Jeanne and consistently places her needs and safety above his own. Bravo, well done!
Highly recommended author and series

This is one of my favorite series. It was interesting to get the back data on how and why the situations with the Shareems started. Interesting how you come to a conclusion that Shareem aren't the same as you even though they are from your DNA. And the down low is prevalent there because high born woman can buy Shareem and imprison them for their sexual pleasure. Yet sex is suppose to be irrelevant on this world. It's an interesting read, enjoy I did.

First, this is smut (erotica, if you prefer) - so please be prepare before you begin reading. But also beware that this is very well written and fun smut. It's in the 50 Shades world, but I can't compare as I haven't read that.
It's a good story, nice characters and just graphic enough without being crass (wouldn't want to read it with my mom in the room, but that's ok!).
Enjoy!
