I've really been enjoying the two covers on the manga lately. We see the outside cover, and then when you flip to the next cover inside the book, it's altered slightly. With this one, we get Shima added in and it just adds to the tension tbh.
But OH MY GOD KAMIKI. MY BB. ;_; She's been my fave for a while and to see her go through it, and to see her shine. BIIIIIIIITCH. I STAN. There were so many heartrendingly beautiful moments here and Izumo achieves full on magical girl status,
istg.
Seeing that she didn't lose Mike and Uke was fantastic, especially since in the last volume she really did think them gone forever ("They were like siblings to me"). I. AM. HERE. FOR. IT.
I loved the kids all coming together and OMG. SHIEMI FINALLY SAVING HERSELF. THIS is what I'm here for. Yes, Bon provided an assist but she got herself out and I'm so stoked for her!!!!! That amount of energy required for Nee to do all that he did,,, you know there's gonna be consequences. But she still powered through!!
The boys took more of a back seat to this, and I'm honestly not mad about it. They did well, they have emotions, they're ready and willing to fuck shit up to get their friends (yes, including Shima goddammit!).
I still do not give A FUCK about Izumo's mother. She can kick rocks. I'm sorry, but you can't just abandon your daughters for your fuck ass loser baby daddy, put everyone in danger by letting the fox possess you because you're distraught your mans doesn't want to acknowledge his illegitimate children but still wants to fuck you and then come in with the last minute assist. NO. FUCK AWF.
Also, noticing this theme of less than stellar parenting only to come in for the last minute save "proving" their loved their kid the whole time. It sort of worked with Bon and his father but you still were left wondering why he decided to take it all on himself and left Bon and his wife to suffer without him. This is even worse because it's purely Tamamo's selfish (and childish) wants that caused this. Ma'am, you gave your oldest daughter the biggest case of mommy issues ever but oh, you called the fox demon back to your bodily vessel and now it will die with you, so that's supposed to make it okay? NO.
I was really hoping that Izumo would have been able to persevere through her own will (and the power of friendship), and overcome things. And that did sort of happen at the end but I just wanted a little more. Also, there was a note that Izumo's compatibility suddenly dropped and it wasn't entirely clear why that was. Was Izumo somehow "found wanting"? Or was there perhaps a little smudging of the details by a certain turncoat?? Or was this just a plot hole, lol?
Anyway,
The END though. It was so sweet and emotional and I loved that Izumo stepped up and asked the kids for help. And that they, in turn, realized what such an act meant for her. THE VULNERABILITY, man. 🤌🏾🤌🏾🤌🏾
