Two all power beings want her. One is a literal nightmare, the other is a god straight out of mythology.
Kenna Erikson knows absolutely nothing about Norse mythology. Which is daunting, considering she’s a volur, a type of seer the Vikings believed garnered favor with the gods. For the most part, she ignores her gifts, and the useless ability to foresee thirty or so seconds into the future. For as long as she can remember, she’s had only herself to rely on, and she likes that just fine. However, when shadows suddenly come alive and attack her, she’s forced to seek outside help in the form of tall, blonde, and infinitely annoying, Luka. Somehow, Luka knows all about her attackers, and the mythology they spring from. He’s also eager to help out, despite the fact they’ve only just met. But what secret is he keeping? Who is he really? And why does her heart flip every time he’s around?

"You aren't the first seer I've come across. You aren't even the thirtieth."
This started out okay, but I did lose interest a bit as the book went on.
I felt quite sorry for Kenna at the start of this book, she hadn’t had an easy life, and was having to work extra hard to get herself through college.
The storyline in this followed Kenna as she met a strange man, found out more about her ability to see the future, and got told some Norse mythology connected to her dreams. I did find the story quite slow, and I did lose interest a bit as the book went on.
There was some romance, although I didn’t really like it, and I wasn’t expecting the panty-ripping sex scene.
The ending to this was a bit of a cliff-hanger, I’m not sure I’d want to read the next book in the series though unfortunately. Sorry Tempest.
I received a digital copy of the book via the author in exchange for an honest review.
To be very honest, I have Uncle Rick to thank for my interest in mythology be it Greek or Egyptian or lately, Norse Mythology. So when I saw the author's post on Goodreads requesting for reviews - I basically without thought jumped on the bandwagon and never really looked back! :P
"Lying to liar makes for an interesting game."
Kenna has an ability - not a gift - but an ability to see in the future, but only about seconds into the future - not exactly the hotbed of activity nor is it useful. She has only two friends - Fiske, her best friend and his girlfriend, Parker.
"Last I checked, being superior, even in every way shape and form, did not necessarily make someone a god."
Everything changes when Luka enters the scene. He is arrogant, sarcastic little (not really) dweeb that you can't help but adore. He is rude, irritating, narcissistic know it all with a body that a hotness level of the sun! And he has the answers that Kenna need to understand what exactly is happening in her life.
"No one with hair this cool reads."
"No one cool enough to read needs to give a shit about their hair."
Kenna is an amazing protagonist.. She is not the simpering female who needs someone to hold her hand and walk her through life. She has been dealt with the harshest of hands, and yet comes out with her dignity and self respect intact. In fact, it is hard not to like her. She acknowledges that Luka is hot, yet seems to ignore that aspect when interacting with him (Girl, has amazing self - control! Just saying :P).
She has been dealt blow after blow and thrust into a world she doesn't understand nor she wants to, at first! Yet she shows incredible intelligence when dealing with each situation she is thrust into - from betrayals, to fights, to a curse that she doesn't have clue about!
"I introduced myself because of what you are. I stayed because of who you are. It's that simple."
Luka and Kenna's interactions are downright hilarious, not to mention adorable. They are amazing together - not because of their chemistry, but because they are the anti-thesis of each other. Besides, I give you one guess as to which Norse god Luka is supposed to be :P
The writing is perfect and I absolutely flew through the whole book in less than 3 hours (admittedly it was the middle of the night and there were no interruptions). The only problem is that the book ended on quite an ambiguous tone - which begs me to ask, Ms. Avery pleas tell me there is going to be a sequel, because if there isn't, I don't think you would want hordes of bookworms (lead by me!) camping on your doorstep :P
***I received this book in exchange for an honest review, Lovers of Paranormal.***
Wow. This book took me completely by surprise in so many ways but in the most important way, IT ROCKED.
So the cover initially reminded me of the Splintered series by A.G. Howard, so I was thinking fantastical and whimsical. Not really since it was about Norse mythology (yeah it kind of confused me also)....UNTIL you realize why it looks like that and when I finally got it, it made COMPLETE sense (same feelings towards the title too), and I loved it immensely.
I loved all of the main characters, Kenna, Luka, Fiske, Parker...it was super entertaining, I loved Kenna and Luka's spunk and laughed out loud numerous times. I loved the tension between the main characters in the beginning....I love what they finally did with that tension.
Yeah, nothing I can really complain about. It was just REALLY good. Tempest Avery even managed to surprise me. I did not see any of the twists coming (a true feat in itself) and was completely satisfied at the end of book 1.
Rating: 2.5/5 Disclaimer: I received an ecopy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. ***Spoilers hidden***
This book was an extremely slow read for me. I found it was quite slow and I saw a lot of scenes that I found were unnecessary to the story or to Kenna's character development. While I can understand why somebody could really enjoy this book, I found that it wasn't really my thing, and I wasn't able to get into it.
This book follows a girl named Kenna Erikson who's had a pretty tough life and has had to take care of herself because her parents never really did. She has strange visions that she calls "daydreams" where she can see something that's about to happen basically right before it does. At a party, she meets a boy named Luka who seems to know what she's going through and appears to be hiding lots of secrets.
While I liked Kenna herself and how she didn't like to take crap from other people, I didn't like how she interacted with other characters. At one point she actually pulled the "you don't know who I am, where I came from, etc." line and I found that a bit cliche. Her relationships just seemed a bit weird to me. I liked Fiske and Parker, I found Luka pretty annoying to be honest, and his attitude upset me. He seemed to think that being a possessive asshole was okay and he liked to talk down to everybody.
The story was really slow, but it improved as the book went on. I found myself bored for the first half of the book, but things began to get more interesting later on, mainly because we start getting some answers to all the strange things that have been happening. I really disliked the romance part of this book. I found some parts of this book a bit predictable. Also, some major questions were left unanswered.
Overall, I found this book pretty boring, and found that it just wasn't my thing. In my biased opinion, it just couldn't compare to other mythology-centred books that I've read. I also don't have as much knowledge of Norse mythology as I do Greek or Roman, so it probably wasn't as enjoyable as it could have been. If you enjoy Norse mythology I'd say go ahead and give it a go, but if it already doesn't interest you, I'd probably bet that you'll become bored with it.
Beguiling Trickery By Tempest C. Avery, I love the fancy name of the book and at some point the 'book title' was one of the reasons I opted for Read-to-Review.
But other than the book title, I feel it was a wonderful story with suspense, twist of plots, series of shocking revelations, tit-bits of romance and instances beyond expectations. A complete package of paranormal adventure and sweet love.
Beguiling Trickery revolves around the story of mythological/mythical creatures and gods, devils and angels, Asgardians and Ragnarök and of-course Kenna Erikson (Völur), the lead character. A teenage girl with power of seeing the future. Throughout her life she considers herself as a freak and ignores her powers which turns out to be her biggest mistake. Eventually she learns to accept her powers and understand the relation between the love of her life and her relation with her past re-incarnations.
Yes! Re-Incarnation is also there in this book. I hardly doubt any factor has been left aside and yet there is a well balance between all the characters and the plots which keep the excitement running throughout the book.
I enjoyed reading this book, its a great combination of all your emotions- you would feel sorry for Kenna at certain point and at the same time her courage fills your heart with an emotional attachment towards her.
Sadly, towards the end I felt the story went on a slow pace but not slow enough to loose interest. And it gained its pace as soon as the fight began, the last fight of victory I was waiting for!! It is always fun to read stories with happy endings and the fun part about this book was; though it had a happy ending yet the story ended in suspense...
I wonder will Kenna and Luke become one? Will Kenna be attacked again? What will happen to Fiske? Lots of questions circling the mind...
I was given a free copy of this ebook in return for a honest review. Tempest C Avery always has been one of my favourtite authors. She's an extremely talented author, but she's a person, too. Like Kenna, she is down-to-earth and has 'spunk'. I really loved this book. Tempest, you have outdone yourself. I'm going to try to review this book without revealing anything too 'spoilery'. When I started this book I immediately knew that I wouldn't be able to predict the ending. Which was true. Beguiling Trickery kept me thinking and even had me doing some research on the mythological component of the story. I couldn't figure out which Norse God Luka was, despite the many many clues (which I now see). I rate this book 4 / 5 because there were one or two grammatical errors but nothig I don't do myself. I really enjoyed this book (having read it in just a few days) and I would rely love for it to be published (publishers, hurry your asses up. This masterpiece will be claimed someday). I recommend BT to anyone interested in Norse myth as well as paranormal stories. You definitely won't regret reading it. Well done, Tempest.

I really, really enjoyed this book (4.5 stars)! It is the second book I've read by Avery, and it was my favorite so far! She is a great writer with a natural flare for helping readers connect with characters. The perfect amount of description and character building! Not knowing much about Norse Mythology I found much of the subject matter to be new- this was a bit confusing at times, especially towards the end, but I found that enough description was provided that I was able to grasp the pivotal points fairly easily. I loved the characters (although I craved a firmer definition of the relationship and what is truly going on between Kenna and Luka- hope that is coming in the next book!) I love tension filled relationships combined with riveting adventure and this is exactly that! The supporting characters were endearing as well and I am excited to read more and find out what happens next! Overall, a very action pack book with a seemingly forbidden relationship that kept me turning pages quickly- I loved every minute of it!
I received this book in exchange for an honest review (LoP or Lovers of Paranormal)
This book was so much fun! It’s hard not to love a story about a hunky Norse god and cool psychic powers. The storyline was fresh, the characters rich, and the action was spot on. I particularly enjoyed the romantic scenes - Tempest has a great skill in describing the subtle aspects and motions of her characters. It was easy to connect with her characters, especially Kenna, the main protagonist. I loved how wonderfully flawed she was - her very relatable struggle to understand herself and come to terms with who she is.
At times I felt the internal monologue slowed the plot down; I would’ve preferred a few less backstory flashbacks. Also, there were quite a few grammatical errors I caught which brought me out, albeit temporarily, of the vivid and exciting story she’s telling.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it to my friends. I’ll definitely be checking out the next book in this series.
I liked the story. It was an interesting twist to add a bit of Greek mythology to the Norse mythology plot. Obviously, there will be another book. I am looking forward to seeing how everything and everyone develops. I really only have two complaints. 1. The characters needed more development. It was harder to relate, as they weren't complex enough to give me all the feels. 2. I would have liked to see the romance develop sooner. It seemed like the romance was dragging until about the last fourth of the book. Then it was hot, and I started to see the two connect. Overall, a great book with lots of possibilities. With some development and edits, it could be stellar. Four glittery stars! (I have previously read her Underworld series featuring Hades and Persephone, and it was a phenomenal read. The characters were brilliant and the romance was fab. This author has a lot of promise.) This book reminds me a lot of the popular new adult Norse romance books written by S.T. Bende. (The Elsker saga) and (The Aere saga).
Beguiling Trickery by Tempest C. Avery is about a young woman named Kenna who has been ostracized her entire life for having sudden fits of dream states. Unknown to Kenna and her tormenters, she is a seer of future events. Kenna’s life becomes full of turmoil as she sought after by good and evil. Who is good and who is evil? Tempest C. Avery artfully keeps the reader guessing throughout the novel. Tempest C. Avery uses first person narration to skillfully to allow the reader feel and understand Kenna’s fears, joys, and frustrations. I thoroughly enjoyed Beguiling Trickery by Tempest C. Avery and would recommend the book to anyone who enjoys paranormal powers.

This was an interesting read. I liked the combination of paranormality and mythology. It made the story more intriguing. The book starts off slow paced, but then it slowly starts to develop more and more. The last 25% of the book was the best part. The characters are good. I wish I had more background information both of the main characters. I was not expecting . Overall, it was a good read. Thank you Tempest C. Avery for this opportunity. Can't wait to read the next book.

Kenna was an okay character, and I did feel a bit sorry for her at the start of this. I can't say I loved her though.
This wasn't a bad read, but it didn't hold my interest well unfortunately. The pacing was pretty slow, nmd it dragged in areas quite a lot because of it.
***I received a free copy of this e-book in exchange for an honest review***
Kenna is a college student who has worked hard for everything she has. She has had little meaningless premonitions since she was a kid. Since it freaked everyone out, she hid them and tried to prevent them as best she could. Never did she think that she might be a volur, a “seer” and that there were paranormal beings out there who would try to kill her for her underdeveloped ability.
After meeting Luka, the embodiment of the Norse god Loki, she couldn’t help her attraction to him, even though he acted like a jerk. But the attraction appeared to be mutual, until Kenna realized it was her soul he recognized from a past life. The two are bound together, despite neither of them liking it, and together they try to understand the reason for the Mara’s desire for her death.
As Kenna learns more about herself, her abilities and the world she never knew existed, she grows into someone who has the confidence to take on that world, as long as she has Luka by her side, and the more time she spends with him, the more she starts to fall for him. But can she trust him? Her, who has never trusted anyone in her life except her best friend Fiske, who also turns out to be someone, and something, other than he seems.
I loved this book. Despite a few spelling and grammar errors, I was enthralled by the story, and there was just the right amount of tension between the two main characters. This urban fantasy moved along at a nice pace, but not too fast. The details were vivid and I could see the scenes that the author set in my head. The story ended in such a way that you knew that was more to the story. I can’t wait to read the sequel. The storyline is unique, not your typical vampire or witchy story, and it was enticing! I am looking forward to more from this author!

I've put off reading this book for a while, while i was doing exams and now that i've finished it i honestly dont know why i did that. This book is amazing the story is so intriguing and unique that theres no questioning how much i adore it.
Kenna/Kari who ever she is, is a feisty yet emotional character that you cannot help but read about. Her snappy comebacks an drastic mood swings are hilarious as well as her estranged relationship with Luka.
Luka, this guy is my new book crush, i have no idea what is so appealing about this guy, he's a jerk, annoying, possessive (jealous, but dont tell him i said that) but i guess that is what pulls you towards him. His sarcastic and argumentative personality is what every teen girl secretly looks for in a book. So Luka is the perfect bad boy.
The book had a slow beginning i will admit that and there was some places where i had to but my tablet down or i would die of exhaustion of reading the boring parts but as soon as the story picks up pace there was no putting anything down, forget tv and another other story's this is the one to read. Plus, how original? I've never read a book of Norse legends and myths, to be honest i didn't even know what that was until reading this and now i'm really intrigued to know more, this isn't a storyline you would've read before.
So, without a doubt, this book deserves 5 stars for its unique storyline, lovable and admirable characters and for having a Luka.

I have to say that this book surprised me from the get go! Kenna's character was one that I admired for her spunk, strength, and wit. She was someone I was able to follow and get to know as the story went on, instead of wishing she would make different decisions, especially around guys, as I've seen in other YA and NA books I've read lately. Kenna wasn't afraid to speak her mind to Luka or stand her ground when she felt like she was betrayed by Fiske and Parker. I also enjoyed how she was a strong female lead who didn't let adversity keep her down.
The Norse mythology connection was one that was a bit confusing at the beginning, but started to make more sense the more of the story I read. The idea of the Mara was an interesting one that I want to research a bit more to see how much of it is a part of Norse mythology. I correctly figured that Luka was Loki earlier in the story, but was not prepared for his relationships with Kenna's alter egos in her memories. Sometimes, I felt that the flashbacks/visions didn't fit in quite right with the current topic of the storyline and I wasn't sure why there was so much about Kari, but I enjoyed her "Seer" gift. While I have read some Norse mythology, this book helped remind me that I wanted to delve deeper into the history.
I am looking forward to another book. I love Kenna and Luka's relationship and how everything isn't always perfect. I am also looking forward to seeing how Parker helps Kenna grow and hone her gift.
A Fantastic Ride! I loved reading this book. It was my first com chance to read anything by this author, but after reading the synopsis I knew that I needed to read this book. I was not disappointed. I loved Kenna. She is a strong, smart, independent girl who has been dealt a pretty crappy hand in life, but instead if letting it drag her down, she took her fate into her own hands and fought to rise above it all. Her family has always been poor, from living in a car from birth to just about school age, and then having to rely on herself to do for herself what parents are usually there to do such as getting up, going to school, feeding herself, what meager food was available. Neither of her parents were really a parent or what you would call loving. After the death of her father while she was still in high school, she was forced to take a job and help to pay the bills in order to survive. Even still she worked her butt off and kept a 4.0 GPA to earn scholarships to go to college, where she could spread her wings some. Add that to her "day dreams" and then her only friends Fiske her best friend and his girlfriend whom she'd also become good friends with, and then the gorgeous mysterious Luka, well we have the makings of a great story, and that's just the tip of the iceberg! I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review from Lovers of Paranormal.
~~I was given this book in exchange for an honest review (Lop or Lovers of Paranormal)~~
Oh my goodness!!! This was SUCH an awesome book!!! I'm so mad I finished it!! UGH!!!
This book really sucked me in. Everything built up nicely to a crescendo, then petered out to a sweet ending with a slight hint that there might (key word here... MIGHT) be more to come. Especially with the whole Fiske thing.
I loved Kenna. At times (the romantic times) I wished I were in her shoes with the sexy Luka... The two of them are so good together. With him being an alpha male and her being every bit the alpha female, they butt heads a lot, but they also fit each other well. The whole backstory of Luka and Kenna's past lives (well Kenna's past lives with Luka [you'll have to read the book to know what I mean]) was pretty good too. It seemed like her past characteristics came together in her present self. She's sweet, smart, quick-to-anger, can fight with the best of them, fiercely loyal, and so totally independent. And Luka just loves it.
I highly, HIGHLY recommend this book (you see that?? 2 highly's?? IT'S THAT GOOD!!! Lol). There are a few typos and grammatical errors in there, but not enough to throw the story off. Everything flowed together well making it very easy to get lost in the story. You definitely won't regret reading this one.
*I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review by LoP (Lovers of Paranormal)*
I'm extremely interested in basically any and all kinds of mythology, so that is what initially drew me to this book. This book centers around Kenna who has had to work extremely hard to get to where she is now. Kenna is estranged from people because she has a strange ability to foresee sporadically into the future for a short period of time. She doesn't have much of a social life except for her two besties, Friske and Parker who are bf and gf. Then we have the mysterious Luka enter into Kenna's drab life. She is completely taken aback by him. I have to say that I would be too if I were in her situation because he is one fine man. Soon after meeting Luka, Kenna's life gets much more stranger than what it once was. The thing is Kenna and Luka have a past that stretches lifetimes, but Kenna is only hitting the tip of the ice burg with her flashbacks. I love how this story twisted and turned and Norse mythology was ever-present the whole time. I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy reading mythology in a fantasy setting, romance, and hot gods!! I am definitely looking forward to reading the next book which I just so happen to have!!!
Kenna has been denying who she was since she was twelve, she gets little glimpses of things that are going to happen in the future and they always come true. When the arrogant Luka shows up life as she knew it changes forever. There are mystical forces working against her trying to destroy the world but this time she may be able to stop exactly what is happening to her.
I liked the characters, I was instantly caught up in the magnetism the author was able to exude from Luka, he definitely had the right kind of pull. Kenna was a super strong character, albeit, frustrating at times. I have to say all of the back and forth with the reincarnations threw me off a bit. It was confusing (Probably just as much to the reader as to Kenna), although she did not ask the questions or demand the answers that I would have.
I am really excited to see what more of the story brings. I want to know more about Kenna's past.
At first I thought Kenna was a contradiction. She seemed so strong, yet doubting herself constantly. I was very annoyed by this. By the time I finished the book I was in love with all the characters and wanted the story to go on and on. Luka – oh God is his character awesome, yet irritating. The story seems to be an evolution of Kenna and I liked the fact she can take care of herself. I love stories of women kicking ass! The Norse mythology kept the story interesting and I think I need to know more about this now. The main thing I liked about this book was I didn’t know what would happen next or how it would end. Enjoyable read! I received this book in exchange for an honest review (LoP) Lovers of paranormal.

This book really blew me away! There were a lot of things that I loved in this book. After reading the first chapter I know that there is something beautifully weird is going on. I loved how smart and independent Kenna is. And mix it with Luka's hot and mysterious persona. That's just WOW! Not only the characters drew me in but also the plot. Tempest kept me in my toes because I can't predict even a slightest bit how the story will end. And Luka's identity kept me thinking hard as to who he really is it was so brilliant. Avery did a really good job! And I recommend this book to those who love to read mythology in a new more exciting twist!
I really loved and enjoyed this it's so different to most of the books I have chosen to read lately.
Well where do I start, this book was full of surprises. It's started off slow and confusing, but once your introduced to the main characters. The story suddenly all explodes into fun and games. It's exciting to see what actually is going because the book only give you bits and bobs as and when their needed. It's Just enough to keep u wanting more. I like that Kenna's character is in the same position as the reader because if gives us an understanding of her struggled with things she's finding out and having to come to terms with. All in all I can't wait for the next book as there are still lots of things to find out and be clear up.

The story started out pretty good, I won't deny I was intrigued at first and the reference to Norse mythology was a good idea.
However, I didn't particularly care for any of the characters nor the romance. Kenna was an okay character, though (at least she knew how to defend herself). I didn't hate hate her but I didn't exactly like her either.
The pacing was so slow that I lost interest for the most part of the book (that's why it took me so long to finish it).
Overall, it was okay and even though it ends with a sort of cliff-hanger, I don't think I'll read the next book of this series. Sorry.
I received this book on a read to review basis but it does not influence my review.
Beguiling Trickery brings you into the enthralling world of Norse Mythology. The story follows Kenna, who struggles with useless visions of the future. She is withdrawn from society, until the irresistible steps into her life, pulling her out of her comfort zone. This story was hard to put down. It was intriguing, original, exciting, etc. Need I go on? In some places, the author did drag things on and go into too much detail of her financial status, but over all it was a well thought out book. I would highly recommend this book and look forward to reading the next!

It was refreshing. It wasn't just Norse mythology but also Greek. Don't forget Kareena and Luka. I mean wow they are awesome together. Can't wait for the next to come out.
Spectacular! Love the idea, the characters, the plot, everything! I know next to nothing about Norse mythology but that wasn't much of an issue. This book left me wanting more. I can't wait for the next one (and for this one to hopefully be on amazon or something so I can buy it for my collection)!
Love you Chani! I just beta read one of your books and really enjoyed it. (I of course didnt read this book....although I really want to. ;] Maybe soon.) I will change this review once you get your goodreads for your new book up.
Personal Notes for the beta read: Whimsical, fun and romantic. I enjoyed the worldbuilding, conflicts, mean girl banter and sweet romance. Give me more please.
So, I’m pretty much confused about rating this book cause I liked the book but it seemed kinda slow to me. I’ve received this book from the author in return for an honest review. This book intrigued me because I’m new to the Norse mythology so I was pretty much excited to read this book.I didn’t expected much but it wasn’t disappointing either but it could be better. The cover is gorgeous and I’m also curious to know who’s the guy in the cover supposed to be cause Luka has a blonde hair.
The character Kenna Erikson she was a kickass character who knows mixed martial arts, but I’ve seen her using her skills only once and that’s a bit disappointing. Kenna has a great self confidence and tough personality who didn’t want to depend on anybody. The thing I didn’t like about Kenna is, she is a bit whiny and always praises herself about how good she was at MMA and reading it several times was kinda annoying when she hasn’t used much of her MMA skills in this plot. The other character Luka he is a hot and arrogant jerk of a guy who seems to hate her and love her but always protects her.The supporting characters are kinda ok not bad and I really liked the friendship between Kenna and Fiske.
Kenna is a college going girl who has the ability to look into the future before it happens almost like a seer, but she didn’t have any control over her power. when she was a kid she had a sad life after her father passed away and now she is a grown up and she didn’t want to depend on anyone and earns herself for the living. She has a poor social life where her only friends are Fiske and Parker and they are also the only people who knows about her ability besides her parents. At a party Kenna’s eyes collide with Luka for the first time and she gets entranced by him but when she realizes he was giving her a hateful look she was confused and angered because she didn’t even know him. Kenna is surprised to know Luka already knows about her ability and he introduces her to the world she thought was just a myth and she also didn’t have any idea on the Norse mythology. After sometime strange things starts to happen and she gets attacked by strange beings who don’t belong to the human world and she doesn’t understand why someone would want her dead. So, reluctantly she seeks the help of Luka who is familiar with this other world.
Ok, The plot was fantastic but I think it was dragged too much and adding to that it was also slow paced which I hate most in the books. There are not much of action scenes besides the climax scene and it would have been much better if there was more action and less whiny protaganist who thinks she is strong and we only see the character development at the end. The chemistry between Luka and Kenna is too much cliche you know what I mean. There are also too many funny banters between them and they always avoid the attraction between them but they couldn’t control the feelings they have for each of them.
The writing style wasn’t creative but it was ok and can be easily understood. I was frustrated when half of the book completed and WTH nothing happens so it will make the readers bored a bit. I think this book wasn’t for me and I’m not saying it was bad cause it was fantastic but I’m not into slow paced plots otherwise it would be a amazing read for me. I think many readers would love it who don’t have any problem with slow paced plots cause I’ve seen some readers enjoyed it a lot. I don’t know if I could recommend it but do give it a try.

When I read the blurb of this book, I was immediately intrigued... if a little hesitant, due to quite a number of bad experiences with good-sounding books.
I liked Kenna's character in this book. While I did think there were a few instances where there was a lack of foreshadowing... and several instances of info-dumping... I found Kenna to be a fairly strong character. It was interesting to see her having to deal with the abilities she had and how those made her an outcast in her school.
I did enjoy seeing Kenna's friendship with Fiske and Parker. It was good to see that she did have friends who she confided in... even though there were times they seemed a bit wrapped up in each other.
It wasn't very hard for me to figure out who Luka was... but it was interesting to read the conversations about the myths and what the characters said about Ragnarok. Plus, it was really good to see that the author didn't go for the really obvious bad guy.
I did feel like there was a bit too much telling rather than showing going on, such as Kenna's relationship with her mother. Plus, there was a lot of repetition about Kenna's upbringing and how she had to fend for herself.
It was interesting to see how Kenna viewed Kari and I liked the fact that she considered Kari to be a person separate to herself. It was good to see that, although she was drawn to Luka and attracted to him, it didn't feel like a love at first sight situation. I wasn't sure I was entirely happy with the way things did go... but the situation did feel easy and natural to the characters.
I also liked that, although Kenna had feelings towards Luka, she also had her own life to live. But my hackles did get raised when Luka was jealously possessive of her and it was good to see she wasn't cowed by it.
I'd like to read the next book/s in this series. It would be good to see Kenna develop her abilities and to learn more about her past with Luka. I did find this book entertaining and easy to read and I would check out other books by this author in the future.
I received a copy of this book from the Goodreads group, Lover's of Paranormal, in exchange for a honest review.
Oh my god. It's finally over. I absolutely was bored out of my mind. I can say with complete honesty that if I wasn't reading to review, I would have stopped reading this book. I was over it at 17% but thought it must get better. Everyone else seemed to love it while I distinctly remember wanting to chuck my kindle across the room at many intervals because just still wasn't finished with this book.
The problems I have with this book are numerous but lets just say I'm not willing to spend the necessary time exploring each issue due to the fact that I've wasted so much time on this book already. So, in a nutshell, here is a list of why I absolutely hate myself for requesting this book: - Kenna is a pathetically weak lead character. She is supposedly portrayed as this hard as ice, kick boxing, needs no one, strong women. Reality is, she is whiny. She turns into a complete puff ball whenever Luka even breathes her way. It's stupid and even more so, annoying. - Lukas, you added absolutely nothing remotely interesting to this story. Even your part in the romance sucked the life out of the story. You aren't mysterious, you're just a poorly written character who is trying to carry an air of mystery but in reality, it's annoying. - The writing. It was so broken. What's worse, it would stay to flow smoothly for maybe three or four pages and give you hope but then shatter that hope with how unbelievably mashed up the sentences became. - It's not suspenseful of the reader doesn't know at least SOME of the answers to the questions half way through. Again, that's just annoying. - The romance. Gah. I just.... I can't even.
So all in all, I'd rather be on a deserted island with 10% battery life on my kindle than stuck with a hard copy of this book.
