Alison Uttley (17 December 1884 – 7 May 1976), née Alice Jane Taylor, was a prolific British writer of over 100 books. She is now best known for her children's series about Little Grey Rabbit, and Sam Pig.
a very anthropomorphic tale and cast of characters, but a kinda cute one 🙂
it feels 'old', in what it describes, and I don't know if that's just when it was written, or if the author cast back in memory to furnish the story's details...
"the country ways of Grey Rabbit were the country ways known to the author"
little Grey Rabbit lives like people from places/times past... living a simple rural life... with neighbours and friends in hare, squirrel, mole, hedgehogs...

it's laundry day. Squirrel climbs and hangs the washing line... Grey Rabbit does everyone's laundry, once the soap is found...
the clothes are hung with pegs bought from a passing Gypsy rabbit, that shine and chime... 🌟

Fox , thinks the clothes on the line are full of people and fancies them for his tea.. then Weasel too... both are surprised! 😯🦊🙃
Old Hedgehog thinks the smock is young Fuzzypeg himself 🦔😉
(🙂🦔 I enjoyed hearing something similar to an old/rural hedgehog name I encountered in my youth, fuzzpeg and/or vuzzpeg 🦔🙂)
Hare delivers the laundry haphazardly around the area... it's thought that everyone will eventually find their clothes 😉

later, towards evening, they plant a nutmeg, also bought from the Gypsy rabbit, to grow a nutmeg tree... and the sapling sprouts up overnight 🌱🌿🌳🌰🌟
(with abit of help, it's inferred, from Gypsy rabbit's magic)
the book ends with a short song 🙂🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🙂
🌟
(small note on GRT people's representation: while somewhat romanticised, the Gypsy rabbit actually felt in keeping with days past when some Gypsy and/or Traveller folk did make and sell pegs in passing... and I think was no more romanticised than the other characters, tho given a slightly magical quality/ability)
🌟
accessed as an RNIB talking book, nicely read by Pauline Monroe 🙂 funds to record it were raised by a Swansea school 🙂

A sweet and charming book about bunnies and their washing day routine. I love books about laundry and cleaning. This story was quick to read and lovely.
