This is the first book that I've read by this author but hopefully it won't be the last. It opened just at the end of the Great War with a lead in to the Spanish flu pandemic. What could be more appropriate reading during these pandemic times? This book definitely showed me a lot about how life had changed for women in England at the time of the war and the difficulties that led to as men were returning from war and expecting to find things just as they had left them when they went away. Ellen Dawson is an excellent example of a young woman who has come into her own and is unwilling to be subservient to men just because that is the way things have always been. Seth Talbot has just returned from the war and is looking to become a policeman in a small village as he hopes it will be more peaceful than what he has been living with. Both Ellen and Seth are challenged when they arrive in Shawcroft. Ellen's mother is dying and her emotionally abusive stepfather thinks he can control how she dresses, wear she works and more. An old boyfriend thinks she will happily settle down and marry him (so wrong!). Seth finds that the law in Shawcroft seems to have been ignored throughout the war and if he isn't careful he could find himself battered or worse. Veronica (Ronnie) and Giles wish to settle down and marry but kidnapping and abuse put that in question. There was a lot happening in this book and it kept me reading until it was done. I really enjoyed it.

Another mix of love and adventure . Ellen came back from the war after being one of lady bingrams aids her stepfather wanted her to marry someone she didn't love but she had fallen in love with the new police constable .And also veronica who was a land girl in the war was kidnapped by her mother kept prisoner and drugged by her mother .another splendid book by Anna 5 STARS .

Once again another stunning book by Anna Jacob’s I just can’t put them down when I start them. They have a fantastic story to them and I love all the awesome characters she creates. Onto the second one.

Tomorrow's Promises is the third and last of Anna Jacobs stories linked to a protagonist who gained experience working for Lady Bingram's Aides during World War One. All three of these stories are breathtakingly absorbing reads. The preceding books are, Our Mary Ann and, Yesterday's Girl. These books melt a fine story into the turbulence created by the costly toll paid in the struggle for social change during the first quarter of the twentieth century.

In this book Ellen Dawson escapes a life in service to serve with the Aides. However, when the war ends Ellen is expected to return to a future living more of a former same. But nothing is the same anymore Ellen is determined to expect more for, and of, a new self.

The historical input in the book and situation that occurred then we dont see often although I am sure that it does occur. It also demonstrates that having money does not mean that you will be kind and not corrupt enjoyed the book

I am rereading my Anna Jacob’s books and enjoying them more than the first time. I think that because the stories are so good you tend to rush the first reading but take more time the second.
