Now collected in a larger three-volume omnibus Konami Kanata'S Chi's Sweet Home is once again shattering all expectations and taking the comics industry by storm. This time The Complete Chi collects volumes four through six along with two more comics from Konami Kanata's FukuFuku: Kitten Tales series.
Konami Kanata (jp. こなみかなた), is a Japanese cartoonist best known for her cat characters Chi's Sweet Home. Her works revolves around the daily life of house cats.
She went to Futaba-Kōtō Academy in Suwa, Nagano Perfecture. Her first published manga as a profesional manga-ka was the short story Puchi Neko Jamu Jamu in Nakayoshi Manga Magazine in 1982. The magazine is a part of Kodansha Publishing, in which she published her works ever since her first debut.
The second volume of the complete series picks up right where the first leaves off, with the Yamada family moving to a new apartment. This one is every bit as delightful as the first, with the addition of several new animal characters as Chi gets to know the pets in this new building. And Blackie, Chi's first cat friend, returns as well! I like the little angry cat Chi "befriends" at the park, a tough little kitten who doesn't like Chi...or does he? This was a lot of fun, and just right for light reading a bit at a time.
As adorable as Part 1. I picked it up because I needed something that would make me smile and I just sat down and read it in one go. Chi's adorable, as is her family and friends.
Captivating watercolors and kitten antics. Volume 2 was more interesting than volume 1. New home, new friends, outside adventures and more dogs. The appeal for cat lovers must be compelling. Part 2 ends with a cliff hanger! Trouble is, I can't recall the ending. If the book was about dogs, I'd remember. I'll accompany Chi on the rest of her adventures. On to part 3!
The Complete Chi’s Sweet Home Part 2 was a wonderful follow-up to the first bind-up where we continue to follow Chi, an adventurous kitten who causes quite a bit of chaos.
Chi is an adventurous and easily distracted kitten who after becoming lost, found herself part of the Yamada household. But just as Chi was getting used to her new life, everything changes.
This volume contains 54 chapters filled with Chi's various antics. At the start of this volume, Chi and the Yamada famiy are moving to a new apartment that is pet friendly. The first few chapters deal with Chi's reaction to the move and it heavily reminded me of my own cats' reactions to moving. Similar to the first volume, most of the chapters follow a linear storyline with some random slice of life ones thrown in. I enjoy the way the story is presented in these books and after the events of the last chapter in this volume, I'm curious what Chi's future holds.
The art in this manga is delightful with the use of a lot of bright colors. I love the illustration style of Chi and the other animals she encounters. The animals are simply adorable and I loved the introduction of new ones in this volume. The author does an amazing job depicting Chi's chaotic movement particularly in comparison to other characters.
Overall The Complete Chi’s Sweet Home Part 2 was just as adorable as the first bind-up and I'm enjoying following Chi's adventures. This manga series would be a great introduction to younger readers newer to the format and for any cat lovers.
Just as adorable and relatable as a cat owner like the first volume. I love Chi! In this collection, Chi begins to adjust to her new home and meets some new friends along the way. I loved seeing Blackie again and meeting David, Alice (so beautiful!), and the other pets at the new apartment.
It was interesting to get glimpses of Chi’s cat mama in this one as well. I feel like the anxiety cats experience upon moving to a new place was portrayed accurately.
The cat shenanigans continue in this volume! I adore Chi, and their perspective. It's fun to see things from the cat perspective. I will continue to enjoy each volume as it comes out.
So stinking cute. Even though this volume is huge it's a quick read because you can't put it down. Chi as usual gets up to lots of antics. Chi's family has moved from the no pets allowed apartment to a bigger pet friendly one a blocks away. Chi is enamored by the space and the new yard. Plus there are lots of interesting new pets in the building. Chi has a penchant for going outside past boundaries and getting lost and surprise surprise that happens again. This time, Chi finds another cat; about the same size and age and the two become friends (begrudgingly on the other cats part). Beautifully illustrated and simplistically amazing. I love this series.
I think this comic may actually be getting better as it goes on! I absolutely loved this volume of Chi’s Sweet Home. There were old and new friends and all sorts of adventures. Chi has become quite the little firecracker. She’s always up to something and her antics are so much fun to read about. I can’t wait to see what volume 3 brings.
As cute as the first one! In this one, Chi almost meets her mom that she got separated from in the beginning of volume 1. I have a feeling volume 3 might include an official meet. Chi's owners move to a new apartment that allows pets. This second volume revolves around Chi meeting neighboring pets, animals in the park and so on. The illustrations and kitty thoughts are cute as always.
Me encanta!
More of the same super saccharine Chi and the family adventures. Not sure why I'm reading this but it's quick enough that we can call it a guilty pleasure. It's pretty exhausting following along with Chi's adventures. Reminds me why I'm really not a pet person.
I swear if the third book is gonna end in another dang cliffhanger I’m gonna lose it. The only reason this isn’t a full five stars is because the ending was so abrupt; it hit me like whiplash
So sweet you are at risk of getting cavities after reading!
A little kitten has a series of adventures that some would say are small (She climbs the stairs! She eats shrimp!) but are in truth the perfect size for this adorably tiny kitten.
Chi's family is moving to a new home and her confusion is sweetly amusing as she has no idea what all the boxes means and why she's stuffed in a traveling case and brought somewhere new that smells funny. However, the story also subtly acts as a reminder to the reader how confusing the world can be to pets and small children.
Chi's adventures are a delight, and a beautifully sweet refresher that the world can still be that good and kind.
“Chi’s Sweet Home” is a sunny bench in the park, a mug of hot chocolate on a cold night, a friendly smile across an unfamiliar room, slurping spaghetti with a good friend. Chi possesses a certain spunky curiosity, an indifference to vacuum cleaners*, and lust for life that makes this book a hard one to deny; even in your most sullen, foulest, grumpy cat moments, you welcome this blissful little book into your life.
*not indifference, really, but adoration...my cat looked at vacuums as if they were trying to steal her soul, but here is fearless Chi, eagerly awaiting her time with the brush nozzle.
