It started with the murder of a stranger. Then the crows appeared…
Ari and Andreas know the O-Seven will never leave them alone. Ari is carrying Andreas's mortal child, but the vampire elders are convinced the child will be the first vampire baby and are out to posses it. Or kill it. Either way, Ari and Andreas will do anything to keep their unborn child safe, even if it means Ari has to go into hiding and leave Andreas exposed to the O-Seven alone.
But then the O-Seven call on the Mahmo magic that can turn an elder into a winged killer, and each time Ari runs, they find her again. The only way to protect their child's future is to defeat the O-Seven, once and for all.
And to do that, Ari will have to face the elders head-on in their castle stronghold deep in Germany's Black Forest…
Ally Shields is the fantasy pen name of Janet L Buck, who also writes historical mysteries as J L Buck.
Ms Shields' Guardian Witch series was first released between 2012 and 2015 and were withdrawn by Etopia Press in 2023. Revised and updated editions were released later in 2023 with new covers and one title change.
Due to an ongoing story line, the author recommends this series be read in order, beginning with Awakening the Fire.
A sequel trilogy may be re-released in the future.
The Maggie York Paranormal Mystery trilogy, set in New Orleans and the Crosskeys trilogy may also be re-released with revised editions as time permits.
When not writing, Ms Shields reads multiple genres--urban fantasy, thrillers, mysteries, historical romance, and she loves to travel--anywhere, anytime.
Eternal Fires by Ally Shields is proof-positive there's original paranormal romance out there. I was taken in by the cover and blurb. Sometimes that comes back to bite in the bum but it only whet my reader appetite for the main course. Filled with conflict, magic, a baby on the way, action and so much more, this book is a must read! LOVED the ending! Well done, Shields!

The "last" book in this series didn't feel like a finale. It kind of ended with a fizzle. Possibly b/c it's the end of this current story arc, but continuing as the Guardian Witch Legacy series. It had a lot of ugh moments. Ari was super irritating in this book. You're 7 months pregnant. You repeatedly state how important this baby is to you and Andreas, and how careful you need to be. So what do you do? Not stay put. Do dumb things. Fail to listen to basic direction/instructions. Constantly. All throughout the entire flippin' book.
Meanwhile, Andreas remains a pushover and never seems to get more than mildly upset for all of 2 seconds. Alpha male he is not. I found those words to describe him incorrect and overused. He didn't really display much of an "alpha male" personality to be quite honest. Ari was also a bit dense in that she suspects anything instance of being influenced by the O-Seven, yet when she's given a prophecy that someone close may betray her, she doesn't suspect Milla or Kyra? Also, how inconsiderate of her to just say, hey I pick this name for our daughter. And Andreas just rolls with it. Aside from those irritating moments littered throughout, it was an okay read.
*I received this book free from Red Moon Book Tours in exchange for an honest review*
The line between friends and enemies still remains a little blurry. Everyone has secrets, but it's the ones that effect Andreas and Ari that are the most problematic. Sometimes you simply don't know who to trust.
With a baby on the way, (YAY Ari and Andreas!), he's even more stubborn about her safety. It's sweet and she knows it, but Ari is Ari and some things aren't as easy to change, but she'll do what she must to protect their baby. And Andreas will become even more of a badass in order to protect his family. A sexy vampire with witch powers...damn he is one hot alpha male.
"Make love to me, Andreas. If we don't make it through tonight, I want loving you to be one of the last things I do."
A dead body, crazy baby rumors, freaky crows, and hellhounds only add to unease the O-Seven are causing. Andreas and Ari are willing to risk everything for their family...but so are their friends. It will become a battle of battles and everything will be on the line.
Eternal Fires is a suspenseful, action packed ending to the Guardian Witch series. Enemies will become allies, friends will become enemies, and everything will become a hectic swirl of chaos until it all plays out. This is how you end a series with a bang!
My Favorite Moment: I have several favorites in this one, but nothing like a little sass mixed with suspense and one determined vampire.
His jolt of alarm sizzled across their telepathic link. "Where are you?"
"I'm with Steffan and Jena, on the way to his house. I'm safe."
"Like hell you are. Not from hellhounds." he shut the connection.
Air's heart pounded with rising panic. He would try to get to her. The hounds would tear him pieces.
Series has been generally enjoyable...but, alpha male bore the hell out of me with their stupid posturing, it kinda spoils the book when you spend the whole story hoping for them to be killed off. Also the ending was a fizzle. A readable series but I will not be recommending it nor would I reread it - Ho Hum.
