Volume 37: The end of the flashback about Aizen, Shinji, and Urahara. Ichigo starts a fight against Ulquiorra about halfway through the volume, but it's derailed a bit because Kubo shifts focus back to Fake Karakura. Fights begin between Shinigami and Baraggan's Fracciones. Yumichika versus Charlotte Chuhlhourne. Izuru (wait, don't I normally call him "Kira"?) versus Abirama. Ikkaku versus Poww. Shuhei versus Findorr. The volume ends with Yumichika winning his fight, continuing a bit into the fights for the other dudes. I don't think I'd call this section "filler" myself, but tbh these dudes don't really need their own fights when we've just started an Ulquiorra rematch. But whatever ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Volume 38: Kira decides to just become one of the top five coolest motherfuckers while killing Abirama. Hisagi wins his own fight, also being cool as fuck. Ikkaku gets kinda-sorta off-screened, then bailed out by Komamura. After stomping the whale guy, several other fights break out, which I don't want to name because of how many combatants there are, but I'll do it anyway: Hitsugaya versus Halibel; Matsumoto versus Sun-Sun, Mila Rose, and Apache; Soi Fon versus Ggio; Omaeda versus Nig... uh, Nirgge; Kyōraku versus Starrk; Ukitake versus Lilinette.

Volume 39: Hinamori joins Matsumoto against Halibel's Fracciónes. The enemy girls gattai into Quimera Parca: Ayon. Ayon takes out Matsumoto and Hinamori, leading to Izuru and Shuhei versus Ayon. Iba comes in as well, and gets his ass kicked, but Yamamoto shuts down Ayon as well as his mistresses. Halibel reveals herself to be Espada #3 and Starrk reveals himself to be #1. Kubo remembers he was in the middle of an Ichigo/Ulquiorra fight.

after what felt like a major volume — two excellent fights and a plot-critical flashback fleshing out the most interesting characters in the series — this volume feels decidedly minor. a cadre of minions with forgettable names, powers, and designs; i’m not sure we needed 30 chapters to deal with these bums. nevertheless, it has its moments — the komamura sequence above, yamamoto roasting folks, a few small character moments i enjoyed, especially for ikkaku and yumichika.

The battle rages on! As the Soul Reapers Captain and Assistant Captains defend the invasion of the Arrancars, a familiar face returns! Back in Hueco Mundo, Ichigo finally face Ulquiorra Schiffer to rescue Orihime. Once again, its getting a little more interesting. As always, each character reveal their superiority in ways unexpected, but I can't help and feel its still the same as always, just like the previous volumes. On to the next volume.

I really liked the end of the dig into the past of Aizen, Urahara and the others.
There's also so banter between Ulquiorra and Ichigo but most of the 3 volumes are around fights between secondary characters so all in all even though these volumes are necessary for the story to evolve, they are kind of meh.

This takes a break from Ichigo and focuses on some of the other soul reapers and fights. I likenthe variety of battles ans therefore the different techniques, etc. It means its not a drag to read through fight scenes for majority of the manga. And gives a buffer between this and Ichigos fight with espada 4.

We conclude the flashbacks and get the full picture of how we have gotten where we are. A lot of amazing action follows; sometimes it is nice to spend time with other characters and battles that are not Ichigo focused. Can’t wait to see how this overarching storylines comes to an end.

The battle continues between soul reapers and Aizen along with his arrancars. They show them as formidable foe and the squad 13 is in trouble, with a few serious battle wounds. Ichigo found Orihime and now the battle between him and Ulqiourra will commence.
