These are a few of the characters that populate this intricate, spooky thriller. Although they initially appear in separate plot lines, they are gradually brought together by a common goal. Each is searching for a man known as Janus.
David Sarac is a legend in the Intelligence Unit of the Stockholm police department. He's a handler, recruiting informants to get the jump on local criminal gangs. The star of his stable of snitches is Janus. His high level intel has resulted in numerous arrests while propelling David to rockstar status in the department. He's a golden goose & no one else knows who he is or even what he looks like.
Unfortunately, after waking in hospital, David has no memory of him or anyone else for that matter. This is a problem. David's colleagues want Janus for their own reasons & rival gangs have joined forces to identify the rat who is ruining business.
Everyone is watching as David starts his search, not just for Janus but for himself. Eventually fragmented memories of people & places begin to surface & he's not sure he likes what he sees. Worse, he feels like he's not getting the whole truth from friends & colleagues. And then there's the hooded figure who lurks in the shadows. Why does no one else see him? Is he even real?
This is a twisty & complex story that will mess with your head. Everyone has an agenda & their own version of the truth. We travel with David as it all unfolds but we're not even sure we can trust his memories & neither is he. The result is the reader becomes just as paranoid as the "hero", trusting no one & dreading what might pop up on the next page.
The author has created a sympathetic MC who is easy to empathize with & does an effective job of making us feel David's fear & growing isolation. You genuinely get a sense of what it might be like to suspect everyone you "know" & it's an awful way to live. But it also explores the theme of identity. Who are you if you remember nothing about yourself......your favourite movie, how you got that scar, who you love.
The tension begins with a whisper, then slowly builds as plot lines converge & it all comes to a head. The fact some of these characters will not be finding their HEA is hardly a surprise but the author reserves the biggest "Holy crap" moment for the final pages.
If you saw & enjoyed the movie "Memento", give this a try. It's quite a ride.

Zdá se mi to nebo ta knížka u nás vyšla v naprosté tichosti?

Nebylo to špatné, ale game byla lepší.
MemoRandom není špatné, ale chce to číst v jednom kuse. Měla jsem několik dní pauzu a zase jsem se v těch lidech ztrácela jako na začátku.
Jinak je premisa velice zajímavá, i když jsem Januse, tak nějak uhádla už na začátku. <-- NIKOMU NEVĚŘ

Czytelnikom, którzy przeczytali trylogię o przygodach Henrika Petterssona ("[geim]", "[buzz]", "[bubble]") radośnie obwieszczam - to ten sam autor!
Anders de la Motte znów wpadł na świetny pomysł na fabułę. Tym razem śledzimy losy Davida Saraka - gościa, który w sztokholmskiej policji odpowiada za kontakty z informatorami. David może i nie jest bezgranicznie oddany etyce zawodowej, ale cechuje go wysoka skuteczność. Jako że w niektóre projekty zaangażowany jest indywidualnie, szybko staje się obiektem zainteresowania wszystkich badassów, którzy chcą dotrzeć do policyjnych sekretów. W zasadzie przed śmiercią chroni go tylko jedno - znajomość z Janusem, najbardziej istotnym w środowisku informatorem. David dziwnym trafem ulega wypadkowi, w wyniku którego dostaje udaru. Główny bohater przeżywa, ale częściowo traci pamięć. Twarze, zdarzenia, informacje - choć wydają się być znajome, przez długi czas nie chcą dać się oswoić. Kto jest prawdziwym przyjacielem? Komu można ufać? Przy kim David może czuć się bezpiecznie?
Chociaż sama historia może wydawać się banalna, autor pięknie ją rozwija. Wprawdzie nie udało mu się uniknąć drobnych podpadzioch, ale nie są to potężne potknięcia. Mamy np. scenę, w której bohater wychodzi przez okno, po czym dowiadujemy się, że jednak chował się w szafie. Można to wytłumaczyć niezbyt trafną narracją. Innym razem, podczas przeszukiwania domu ofiary, jedna z bohaterek odnajduje gadżety erotyczne. Narracja zostaje poprowadzona następująco: "Zdaje się, że Sophie Thorning lubiła się ostro bawić. Raczej nie opowiadała o tym tatusiowi.". Raczej nie. Ani mamusi, ani siostruni, ani nawet chomisiowi. ;) Pisarzowi zdarzają się takie groteskowe wtrącenia, ale naprawdę rzadko. Nie jest to strasznie upierdliwe, ale w niektórych fragmentach mniej (dopowiedzeń) znaczyłoby więcej (jakości).
Może nie jest to moja "książka roku", ale lektura nie była stratą czasu. Pełen szacunek dla autora za to, jak połączył kropki i jak panował nad dynamiką powieści. Druga część cyklu czeka już na półce. Raczej nie dam jej długo leżakować.

Memo Random – Chilly Scandi Noir
Following on from his highly successful Game Trilogy, Anders de la Motte returns with another excellent high class thriller. Memo Random while being fast paced will leave you guessing throughout the book, and even though the clues are scattered throughout you are only given the answer to the whom at the end of the book.
David Sarac is in a major accident and he has a vivid idea of what is happening around him but he really is not too sure. He can smell petrol and he can see feet running and he can hear sirens and blue lights but he is totally disconnected from it. When he comes round he is in a Stockholm hospital and not sure how he got there, he just knows that he is a Police Officer and he needs to protect someone, but whom?
While recovering from the accident he has many visitors all trying to find our who Janus is, but Sarac does not have any idea. He just cannot remember, he cannot remember anything about the what or the who. His boss is worried as he does not know where the list of Sarac’s informants has gone as it is no longer in the safe. Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, his friend Peter Molner a fellow officer are all looking for Janus. Throwing in to the mix is the underworld are also looking for him and Atif is looking for revenge on the killing of his brother.
As Sarac slowly recovers his memory he has to find his former informants, and he is helped by his carer Natalie Aden, who has been recruited to spy on him. As they slowly put the pieces back together there are some secrets that Sarac needs to keep away from everybody, and especially Natalie. Sarac knows he is not safe at his Stockholm apartment and that he is being watched wherever he goes. He is feeling the pressure, and the question is will he crack first or will he be able to put the pieces together.
As you read Memo Random you are aware that this is not just another police procedural, but with the noir twists you really do ask yourself who are the people telling the truth. You wince every time David Sarac takes yet another blow, and wonder how will he workout who he needs to save if he cannot remember anything.
To add to the darkness he is out at his summer house as well as his apartment, where he is in the depths of winter the snow is all around. There is also the people not afraid to use violence are not just restricted to the bad guys you can see. This is an excellent thriller that brings Swedish noir to life with all its twists and turns, the excitement is piled as high as the snow drifts.

Versionen jag har läst är ett förhandsexemplar utan omslag som kom strax innan jul 2013, lagom på tiden att damma av det, måste jag säga.
Det här är skrivet för att bli film, det märks nästan. Inte för att det är någon sorts manusformat med massor dialog, inte alls. Men mycket tid läggs på att ge läsaren en klar visuell bild av allt. Utom kanske just hur alla ser ut, för att ge utrymme för fri casting av rollerna.
En ganska typiskt katt och råtta-bok, och en väl beprövad plot där man inte kan lita på någon.
Som sagt, väldigt mycket film. Men det gör den å andra sidan väldigt spännande.
Vissa hål finns det, oklart om detta är något som korrigerats i slutgiltiga utgåvan eller ej, men det spelar mindre roll då det inte påverkar handlingen på något sätt.
Jag kan absolut tänka mig att läsa del två, den där Stenberg verkar vara en hal fisk.

Ze začátku docela zmatek, hodně postav, nebylo jasný co se děje. Ještě k tomu v českým vydání nějaký expert zvolil pro prvních 20 stran bezpatkové písmo, takže začátek knížky hodně odrazoval. Když se ale dostane do děje, sžijete se s hlavní postavou a začíná se dít pořádná zábava. Společně pak sbíráte kousky skládačky, abyste zjistili, co se děje, co se stalo a kdo hlavní postava vlastně je.
Dlouho jsem se do žádné knihy nezažral tolik, jako do této.

Και σ' αυτό το βιβλίο του De La Motte η υπερβολή δίνει και παίρνει, αλλά είναι τόσο κινηματογραφική η ροή που μάλλον η υπερβολή επιβάλλεται.
Παρακολουθούμε κυρίως την πορεία του Ντάβιντ Σάρακ μετά το ατύχημα που παραλίγο να του κοστίσει την ζωή του. Έχει χάσει την πρόσφατη μνήμη του η οποία επανέρχεται κομματιαστά αλλά και πάλι δεν είμαστε σίγουροι αν οι εικόνες που του δημιουργούνται είναι από την μνήμη του ή από τις αφηγήσεις των άλλων. Και πραγματικά δεν είναι να εμπιστεύεται κανέναν. Ο φίλος του, ο προϊστάμενός του, ο διευθυντής του, ο Διευθυντής από τα κεντρικά, ο επιθεωρητής των εσωτερικών υποθέσεων, οι συνάδελφοί του, ο δικηγόρος/μεσάζοντας... Όλοι του παρουσιάζουν κι από μια διαφορετική οπτική τα γεγονότα που προηγήθηκαν του ατυχήματος και τα όσα έχουν να κάνουν με την δουλειά του ως χειριστής πληροφοριοδοτών.
Η εξαφάνιση όλων των αρχείων του καθώς και της λίστας με τους πληροφοριοδότες του μαζί με την απώλεια της πρόσφατης μνήμης του οδηγούν στο συμπέρασμα ότι όσοι έχουν εμπλακεί μαζί του βρίσκονται σε μεγάλο κίνδυνο. Κι αυτό επιβεβαιώνεται όταν αρχίζουν να βρίσκονται ένας-ένας δολοφονημένοι.
Παρακολουθούμε ταυτόχρονα και τον Ατίφ. Ο οποίος είναι Ιρακινός αστυνομικός που επιστρέφει στην Σουηδία για την κηδεία του αδερφού του και για ν' ανακαλύψει τι ακριβώς συνέβη.
Και ο Ατίφ καταλήγει στον Σάρακ, ξεκινώντας πρώτα από τον Αμπού Χάμσα ο οποίος είναι ένα από τα κεντρικά πρόσωπα αφού γνωρίζει τον Ατίφ και τον αδερφό του. Ο Αμπού Χάμσα είναι αρχηγός εγκληματικής οργάνωσης κι έχει διασυνδέσεις με όλες τις οργανώσεις που έχουν ενώσει τις δυνάμεις τους για να ανακαλύψουν τον προδότη που κρύβεται ανάμεσά τους, αλλά είναι και δέκτης πληροφοριών από χαφιέ της αστυνομίας. Σ' αυτές τις οργανώσεις κινούνται και οι πληροφοριοδότες του Σάρακ.
Όλοι ανεξαιρέτως ψάχνουν απεγνωσμένα ν' ανακαλύψουν την ταυτότητα του Γιάνους. Είτε για να τον εξαφανίσουν, είτε για να τον προστατέψουν. Ο Γιάνους φέρεται να είναι ''Ο'' πληροφοριοδότης. Κινείται στα ανώτερα στρώματα αλλά είναι και μέσα στα πράγματα καρφώνοντας ''επιχειρήσεις'' των εγκληματικών οργανώσεων κάνοντάς τους έτσι μεγάλη ζημιά και χαρίζοντας ταυτόχρονα μεγάλες νίκες στην αστυνομία.
Μαζί μ' αυτούς, εκβιάζεται να ψάξει για την ταυτότητα του Γιάνους κι ο Υπουργός Δικαιοσύνης που προσπαθώντας να ξεμπλέξει από ένα μπλέξιμο που θα του κατέστρεφε την ζωή, μπλέκει χειρότερα και πιέζει εκεί που μπορεί ώστε μέσω του Σάρακ, νόμιμα, να φτάσουν στον άνθρωπο που κρύβεται πίσω απ' το ψευδώνυμο 'Γιάνους'.
Τους βρίσκουμε όλους μαζί στην τελική σκηνή όπου η κορύφωση έρχεται με μία μεγάλη μάχη στο νησί που βρίσκεται το εξοχικό του Σάρακ και θύματα πολλούς από τους εμπλεκόμενους. Εν μέσω αυτής, μπαίνουν στη θέση τους όλα τα κομμάτια του παζλ που μάζευε μέχρι τώρα ο Σάρακ και δίνονται οι απαντήσεις που ψάχνουμε από την αρχή του βιβλίου.
Μικρό μπέρδεμα με τα ονόματα που ξαφνικά στο τέλος πρέπει να θυμηθούμε ποιος είναι ποιος και πώς βρέθηκε στο νησί. Μικρές (μπορεί και μεγάλες) υπερβολές με θεαματικές διασώσεις της τελευταίας στιγμής αλλά όπως ήδη είπα η ροή είναι κινηματογραφική και ανά κάθε κεφάλαιο αλλάζει η σκηνή (ενίοτε και ανά παράγραφο, όπου απαιτείται) δίνοντας έτσι την αίσθηση ότι παρακολουθούμε σε πραγματικό χρόνο τα γεγονότα που συμβαίνουν. Η αγωνία κυριαρχεί και αφορά και στο τι είχε συμβεί πριν το ατύχημα και πόσα απ' αυτά που σταδιακά μαθαίνουμε είναι αλήθεια αλλά και στο τι θα συμβεί σ' αυτόν τον αγώνα δρόμου ενάντια στον χρόνο. Ποιος θα φτάσει πρώτος. Ποιος θα γλιτώσει. Ποιος είναι ο κακός. Ποιος, στα κομμάτια, είναι ο Γιάνους!
Ξεκίνησα ήδη το επόμενο που είναι Το Τελεσίγραφο.
Σημείωση: Η τριλογία νομίζω μου άρεσε περισσότερο. Θα το σιγουρέψω αφού διαβάσω και Το τελεσίγραφο.

Όλοι του παρουσιάζουν κι από μια διαφορετική οπτική τα γεγονότα που προηγήθηκαν του ατυχήματος και τα όσα έχουν να κάνουν με την δουλειά του ως χειριστής πληροφοριοδοτών.
Η εξαφάνιση όλων των αρχείων του καθώς και της λίστας με τους πληροφοριοδότες του μαζί με την απώλεια της πρόσφατης μνήμης του οδηγούν στο συμπέρασμα ότι όσοι έχουν εμπλακεί μαζί του βρίσκονται σε μεγάλο κίνδυνο. Κι αυτό επιβεβαιώνεται όταν αρχίζουν να βρίσκονται ένας-ένας δολοφονημένοι.
Παρακολουθούμε ταυτόχρονα και τον Ατίφ. Ο οποίος είναι Ιρακινός αστυνομικός που επιστρέφει στην Σουηδία για την κηδεία του αδερφού του και για ν' ανακαλύψει τι ακριβώς συνέβη.
Και ο Ατίφ καταλήγει στον Σάρακ, ξεκινώντας πρώτα από τον Αμπού Χάμσα ο οποίος είναι ένα από τα κεντρικά πρόσωπα αφού γνωρίζει τον Ατίφ και τον αδερφό του. Ο Αμπού Χάμσα είναι αρχηγός εγκληματικής οργάνωσης κι έχει διασυνδέσεις με όλες τις οργανώσεις που έχουν ενώσει τις δυνάμεις τους για να ανακαλύψουν τον προδότη που κρύβεται ανάμεσά τους, αλλά είναι και δέκτης πληροφοριών από χαφιέ της αστυνομίας. Σ' αυτές τις οργανώσεις κινούνται και οι πληροφοριοδότες του Σάρακ.
Όλοι ανεξαιρέτως ψάχνουν απεγνωσμένα ν' ανακαλύψουν την ταυτότητα του Γιάνους. Είτε για να τον εξαφανίσουν, είτε για να τον προστατέψουν. Ο Γιάνους φέρεται να είναι ''Ο'' πληροφοριοδότης. Κινείται στα ανώτερα στρώματα αλλά είναι και μέσα στα πράγματα καρφώνοντας ''επιχειρήσεις'' των εγκληματικών οργανώσεων κάνοντάς τους έτσι μεγάλη ζημιά και χαρίζοντας ταυτόχρονα μεγάλες νίκες στην αστυνομία.
Μαζί μ' αυτούς, εκβιάζεται να ψάξει για την ταυτότητα του Γιάνους κι ο Υπουργός Δικαιοσύνης που προσπαθώντας να ξεμπλέξει από ένα μπλέξιμο που θα του κατέστρεφε την ζωή, μπλέκει χειρότερα και πιέζει εκεί που μπορεί ώστε μέσω του Σάρακ, νόμιμα, να φτάσουν στον άνθρωπο που κρύβεται πίσω απ' το ψευδώνυμο 'Γιάνους'.
Τους βρίσκουμε όλους μαζί στην τελική σκηνή όπου η κορύφωση έρχεται με μία μεγάλη μάχη στο νησί που βρίσκεται το εξοχικό του Σάρακ και θύματα πολλούς από τους εμπλεκόμενους. Εν μέσω αυτής, μπαίνουν στη θέση τους όλα τα κομμάτια του παζλ που μάζευε μέχρι τώρα ο Σάρακ και δίνονται οι απαντήσεις που ψάχνουμε από την αρχή του βιβλίου.
Μικρό μπέρδεμα με τα ονόματα που ξαφνικά στο τέλος πρέπει να θυμηθούμε ποιος είναι ποιος και πώς βρέθηκε στο νησί. Μικρές (μπορεί και μεγάλες) υπερβολές με θεαματικές διασώσεις της τελευταίας στιγμής αλλά όπως ήδη είπα η ροή είναι κινηματογραφική και ανά κάθε κεφάλαιο αλλάζει η σκηνή (ενίοτε και ανά παράγραφο, όπου απαιτείται) δίνοντας έτσι την αίσθηση ότι παρακολουθούμε σε πραγματικό χρόνο τα γεγονότα που συμβαίνουν. Η αγωνία κυριαρχεί και αφορά και στο τι είχε συμβεί πριν το ατύχημα και πόσα απ' αυτά που σταδιακά μαθαίνουμε είναι αλήθεια αλλά και στο τι θα συμβεί σ' αυτόν τον αγώνα δρόμου ενάντια στον χρόνο. Ποιος θα φτάσει πρώτος. Ποιος θα γλιτώσει. Ποιος είναι ο κακός. Ποιος, στα κομμάτια, είναι ο Γιάνους!
Ξεκίνησα ήδη το επόμενο που είναι Το Τελεσίγραφο.
Σημείωση: Η τριλογία νομίζω μου άρεσε περισσότερο. Θα το σιγουρέψω αφού διαβάσω και Το τελεσίγραφο.

Līdz pat grāmatas beigām nekļuva skaidrs, vai iemesls atmiņas zudumiem ir insults, vai autoavārija. Atveseļošanās un atgriešanās ikdienas dzīvē atainota ārkārtēji ātra. Pieminēto medikamentu pielietošanas indikācijas un efektivitāte man viesa šaubas par autora kompetenci. Īsi sakot autors šī darba rakstīšanai nebija sagatavojies.
Sižets nedaudz aizrāva pēdējā trešdaļā , kad intrigu uzturēja atrisinājuma gaidas. Negribas teikt , ka noslēpums saglabājās līdz pat pēdējai lappusei. Aizdomas par atrisinājumu radās jau diezgan ātri.

When I reviewed the Game sci-fi/tech thriller trilogy by bestselling author Anders de la Motte (review links at the end of this review), it was one of those hold on for dear life roller coaster rides through a tech induced nightmare. I enjoyed every heart-stopping moment of it but it was also mind wrenching. That’s a long story to explain why I was a bit hesitant when I saw that Anders had written Book #1 of a new thriller duology, MemoRandom. At the same time, I find his writing style to be really addictive so I couldn’t resist taking a peek. MemoRandom is pure conspiracy thriller – no sci fi needed. It still runs at warp speed but any mind wrenching aspects are, unfortunately, those due to the real world instead of a tech-gone-awry one. This was one of my least favorite Nordic Noir/Scandinavia crime books I've read. It had very little sense of place, this could have pretty easily been set in Chicago. I like to feel Scandinavia more in these books. It was also just slow and hard to get into. The flow was choppy and it kept jumping around. Overall, it took me a long time to read and I never really got that into it.

För ganska många år sedan läste jag Anders de la Mottes förra serie, den om HP Pettersson, som jag uppskattade väldigt mycket. Självfallet så köpte jag då även denna första del i hans andra serie (och även andra delen, faktiskt), men den har av någon outgrundlig anledning fått stå oläst. Eftersom det är precis sådant här jag vill åtgärda med min utmaning Vi möts igen så tog jag med MemoRandum där i år och det är jag inte alls ledsen för. Läs mer på min blogg

Definitely one of the best books I've read in a long time. AN ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE. Not only does the author have absolutely amazing writing technique, but as well as that, just when you think you know how something is going to turn out, you get completely surprised by how the author makes things turn out. Everything at the beginning is scattered, you think, and all of the characters have no relation to each other. But the later on you read, you find out that everything eventually connects together, like a spider web twisting together.
Also like a spiderweb, it caught me in the web and I never wanted to put the book down. I can't remember a time when I wasn't surprised or entertained while reading this book. I will admit, I was quite confused at times, but that's mostly because I don't read a lot of book like this.
I definitely recommend this book to anyone wanting to read a lengthy, yet gripping book. This book is easily in my top three, if not my favorite book. As I said before, an absolute masterpiece, and I can't wait to get my hands on the sequel.

I picked this book up second hand at our local charity shop for some holiday reading; mainly attracted to it by its cover, the fact that it looked like a new book (clean, no huge creases in the spine, no smell of cigarettes) and from the brief synopsis, sounded like a good read. (I’m a big fan of Scandi Noir on tv). I did wonder how it would read following translation but I needn’t have worried - it gripped me from page 1 and continued to right up to its conclusion.

Ze začátku tři samostatné dějové linky, takže jsem se nejdříve trochu ztrácela a chvíli mi trvalo, než jsem se začetla. Jak se ale postupem času začaly prolínat a nabírat na napínavosti, tak mě kniha fakt chytla. Poslední kapitoly už jsem četla jedním dechem. Slušná práce autora, rozhodně si dám další díl!

Detta är författaren Anders De La Mottes fjärde bok, denna kom ut 2014. Han har tidigare skrivit en trilogi, Geim, Buzz och Bubble. Efter denna så har han även skrivit en uppföljare till denna bok, UltiMatum, samt årstidskvartetten som består av Slutet På Sommaren, Höstdåd, Vintereld och Våroffer.
Ber om ursäkt i förväg om detta kommer bli lite längre än en vanlig recension och att jag inte helt kommer att hålla mig endast till denna bok.
Jag har träffat Anders De La Motte ett antal gånger på bokmässan i Göteborg, det är alltid lika kul och intressant att lyssna på honom när han prata om sina böcker och sitt skrivande, samt många saker runt omkring detta. Så innan jag går in på boken så skall jag säga att alla som har möjligheten att lyssna på Anders får absolut inte missa det.
En liten roligt minne av Anders som jag har är när jag var på Crimetime Gotland 2017. Jag skulle lyssna på Anders och några andra författare, jag tänkte att jag kunde köpa de böcker jag ville ha av de författare som jag skulle lyssna på så att jag enkelt kunde få de signerade efteråt.
Jag står vid bordet med böckerna och ser att Anders senaste bok inte var med, saken var den att den inte hade kommit ut vid denna tidpunkt på året. Ibland gör förlagen så att de trycker en lite tidig upplaga, men det verkar inte som de hade gjort detta. Jag kunde ändå inte låta bli att fråga de som höll i försäljningen av böckerna om hans senaste bok fanns.
Självklart så fanns inte boken. Men personen som står och säljer vänder sig till man som står med ryggen emot i en grupp och säger: ”Du, Anders när kommer din bok ut?” Mannen vänder sig om, det är så klart Anders, och säger något i stil med: ”Den kommer ut till hösten, men min senaste bok finns här i pocket.” Anders är på väg att visa boken när han tittar på mig och säger snabbt: ”Nej, förresten han skall inte ha den, för en har han redan.”
Saken var den att jag hade träffat honom två gånger tidigare på bokmässan och fått signerat av honom. Att han så snabbt kände igen mig och efter att endast ha träffat mig två gånger är verkligen imponerade och jag tappade nästan hakan. Jag menar hur många personer träffar han inte på alla de turer han har med signeringar landet runt.
Efter detta så har Anders varit en person, av många, som jag alltid ser fram emot att träffa på bokmässan. Det är alltid lika trevligt och roligt att träffa honom och han känner igen mig varje gång. Kan tillägga att jag det året fick boken signerad när jag senare träffade honom på bokmässan, då hade boken kommit ut.
Nu efter detta långa utlägg så skall jag återkomma till boken jag läst.
Boken är inte en helt vanlig deckare, den är lite av en thriller också. Det är inte det klassiska att ett eller flera mord skall lösas av en eller flera poliser.
Vi följer flera trådar samtidigt där några personer på egna håll söker svar på en och samma fråga, vem är det som står bakom det mystiska namnet Janus? Personerna som söker svaret har alla olika orsaker till varför de vill ha reda på det.
Vi har vår huvudkaraktär, David Sarac, som råkar ut för en olycka och tappar minnet, han minns inget han har gjort de senaste åren. Han minns att han är polis och är hanterare av kriminella källor. Han försöker få tillbaka minnet, men det är inte det enklaste när han har haft ett jobb som är fullt av lögner och hemligheter, hur skall han kunna få fram vad som är sant och vad som är falskt?
Tycker att detta är ett riktigt bra upplägg och jag gillar hur allt svänger fram och tillbaka, man vet inte vilka som ljuger eller talar sanning, vem som är fiende och vem som är vän. Detta gör att det blir spännande och man vet aldrig riktigt vad som kommer att hända härnäst. Jag fick dock rätt så tidigt en idé till en lösning som visade sig vara väldigt nära till sanningen, nu vill jag inte säga att det är uppenbart eller om det är jag som har så livlig fantasi samt sett och läst allt för många thriller och deckare. Det hände mycket på vägen som jag inte förutsåg. Författaren får till det riktigt bra.
Anders för fram handlingen i ett snabbt tempo, men det blir aldrig för mycket, han håller sig på rätt nivå. Med en säker hand för han oss läsare in i huvudkaraktärens dilemma och värld. Det är ett välbalanserat språk som flyter på riktigt smidigt.
Det är en riktigt bladvändare till bok och jag ser fram emot att läsa fortsättningen, UltiMatum, för att se hur allt slutar, för jag tror att det är den avslutande boken med tanke på att Anders har skrivit fyra andra böcker efter dessa. Det är som jag nämnde tidigare Årstidskvartetten och dessa har jag hört skall röra sig i ett långsammare tempo, jag ser även fram emot att läsa dessa då Anders har kommit att snabbt blivit en av favoritförfattarna. Jag ligger lite efter i läsningen när det kommer till hans utgivning, men har planer på att läsa ifatt, misstänker jag har mycket gott framför mig.

MemoRandom är en välskriven och lättäst deckare av det mera hårdkokta slaget. Egentligen så är MemoRandom en deckare av den typ som jag inte är så förtjust i, och David Sarac är verkligen inte den typ av personlighet som jag vill ha som huvudperson. Ändå så flyter läsningen av MemoRandom förvånansvärt lätt. Det har något att göra med Anders de la Mottes sätt att skriva och bygga upp historien, som är skickligt gjort. Berättelsen har ett bra tempo, och är uppdelat i korta stycken.
Hela intrigen bygger på att David Sarac förlorat minnet. Anders de la Motte har själv sagt att mycket av materialet till just minnesförlusten har han fått från sin pappa som tappade minnet. Jag tvivlar inte på att det kan vara en riktig beskrivning, men jag har svårt för när det i en bok är oklart om det som händer är verklighet eller en fantasiprodukt/dröm/hjärnspöke.
Karaktärsbeskrivningarna är bra, men alla personer är mer eller mindre skumma. David Sarac framstår redan från början som en obehaglig typ. Däremot den andra huvudpersonen, Atif, gillar jag som huvudperson, trots att han också gjort en hel del brutala saker och fattat obehagliga beslut. Berättelsen är i huvudsak uppbyggd kring de två som berättare, och det fungerar bra för att driva berättelsen framåt.
Mycket i MemoRandom handlar om grova brott och ”maffiametoder”, och i någon mån närmar sig berättelsen det man brukar kalla ”hårdkokt”. Det är inte min favorittyp av berättelse, men ändå så har den något som väcker mitt intresse och får mig att läsa vidare när jag väl plockar upp boken.
Jag gillar Anders de la Mottes sätt att skriva, och kan tänka mig att läsa mer av honom. Tror dock inte att det i så fall blir den andra delen i den här serien, UltiMatum, utan snarare någon i hans senaste serie som börjar med Slutet på sommaren.

I really enjoyed MemoRandom. De la Motte brings back that sharp thriller vibe, but this time the stakes are even more personal and twisted. The story hooks you with a protagonist who’s caught in a messy web of memory manipulation, secrets, and a past that refuses to stay buried.
What stood out to me was the way the book plays with perception and trust. You’re constantly questioning what’s real, what’s planted, and who’s really pulling the strings. It’s a clever, tight thriller that keeps you guessing but never throws you off the plot.
The pacing is fast, the tension is palpable, and the characters have that gritty, believable edge that makes the whole thing feel intense and immersive.

Jag måste säga att förväntningarna var höga innan jag läste denna eftersom jag älskar hans andra böcker samt gav bok två i denna serie, UltiMatum, högsta poäng. Denna bok tyckte jag var rörig och jag fastnade aldrig riktigt i den. Jag hade sen tidigare glömt bort vem Janus var, så det spelade ingen roll när jag läste denna bok som egentligen enbart handlar om att ta reda på vem Janus är. Jag saknade spänningen i denna och hade gärna önskat att det hade hänt mer. Kändes mer som en actionfilm med många biljakter och lite halvt dött mellan dessa, sådana filmer som jag har svårt för. Så denna bok ska jag försöka glömma bort lite och fokusera på hans andra böcker som för det mesta får högsta betyg av mig.

Let me start by saying, I love Swedish mystery/thrillers. I love this defined sub-genre, so when starting this book I was beyond excited. Unfortunately this one didn't live up to the other Swedish mystery/thrillers I have read. For me, this book had a little too much police procedural and less of the gory crazy drama that I love when it comes to Swedish mystery/thrillers. Don't get me wrong there are dead bodies, but I felt like the body count was low and it was more about the hunt for the truth.
I say all of this to say this book was fine. I went into it wanting something very particular and it didn't do it, but it was fine if you like the detective work of other books.

The description sounded interesting. But very difficult to read. I think the author was trying too hard to make it suspenseful, like some sort of Hollywood script that it often felt contrived. I love when a story takes place in a different city or country but reading this story, you learn nothing about Sweden. It's only the occasional characters' names which reminds you that it's not taking place in the U.S. I have NEVER not finished a book. I just cannot get through this one. Had to stop half way vs wasting more time on it.

Τι διαβασα μόλις τώρα; Ο συγγραφέας είναι φοβερός. Χωρίς πολύ βία αν και με αρκετά σπασμένα κοκκαλα. Ολοκληρωμένο χαρακτήρες, χωρίς υπερβολές. Όσο για το τέλος εξαίσιο και καθαρτικο θα έλεγα. Ο κεντρικός χαρακτήρας Νταβίντ Σαρακ πολύ bad ass αλλά και πολύ ανθρώπινος καθώς έχει αμνησία. Και γύρω από αυτή την αμνησία παίζονται όλα. Παράλληλες ιστορίες που τελικά συναντιουνται. Η ιστορία είναι πολύ πιστευτη και και δυστυχώς θα μπορούσε όλα αυτά που περιγράφονται να είναι αλήθεια. Υπάρχει μια σκληρότητα αλλά και μια ευαισθησία παράλληλα. Πολυ ωραίο. Απο τα καλύτερα που διαβασα φέτος.

This is one of the most underrated Nordic Noir writers around.His Seasons quartet is splendid not least for the variety of character and plot that each book produces .This looks like the first in a series of three books and consists of a number of narratives all centred on the search for a ‘mole’ in the criminal world..The plot takes a number of turns with a series of mainly dubious characters appearing before heading for an ending with substantial twists.this guy deserves more attention

finished 20th ma 2025 good read three stars i liked it no more no less kindle library loaner first from de la motte anders entertaining story that plays with the idea of one main character losing some memory in an accident story opener. main character's memory is key to the remainder of the story with numerous other actors hoping to be the first to learn the identity of a confidential informant locked inside the memory of the main. some other nefarious leaders are engaged in their own plots.
