The book features ready-to-use, interactive tools for students, teachers, parents, administrators, and professional development educators. Parent resources include a sample parent webpage and several growth mindset parent education tools. Other resources include: mindset observation forms, student and teacher “look fors," lists of books that contribute to growth mindset thinking, critical thinking strategy write-ups and samples, and a unique study guide for the original book that includes book study models from various schools around the country. This book is perfect for schools looking to implement the ideas in Mindsets in the Classroom so that they can build a growth mindset learning environment. When students believe that dedication and hard work can change their performance in school, they grow to become resilient, successful students. This book contains many of the things that schools need to create a growth mindset school culture in which perseverance can lead to success!
There are quite a few ideas for teaching growth mindset in the classroom. I like the paired readings and book suggestions as well. This is a really good resource.
This is a wonderful resource that I wish more schools would implement. Too many times I've heard children come in the library after school and say they'll never learn -whatever is currently being taught- because they aren't smart enough. I've heard it over and over how certain demographics reduce intelligence. Sure, the boy down the road born to immigrant parents with no formal education may have a difficult road ahead of him but that does not mean he can't learn complicated math or become a scientist. This book touches on several areas that can be implemented in any classroom regardless of what the school system dictates. I'll be using it with my currently public schooled child. I wish I had something like this when I was homeschooling my older two. I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a great companion book to Ricci's Mindsets in the Classroom. I found the resources to be straight-forward and easy to understand. Most can be used as is, others will serve as a great starting point for modification. I found the video and book resources to be great. It's always nice when someone else does the "leg-work," especially as you prepare to begin something new in the classroom. The only think I would have liked is access to electronic versions of some of the handouts, which would make modification easier. However, with this book, Ricci provides several resources that will hopefully make creating a growth mindset environment that much easier. I'm looking forward to utilizing many of these resources in the upcoming school year.
The book Ready-to-Use Resources for Mindsets in the Classroom: Everything Educators Need for School Success by Mary Cay Ricci presents a very different approach to education as compared to more traditional models. Mindsets does not box students in using "innate intelligence" models, but rather celebrates students growth and achievement through perseverance, resiliency and learning from failure. As an educator, I will be able to use some of the tools and ideas in my classroom, particularly emphasizing the importance of "YET". I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway in return for an honest review.
Handy and practical resources for Mindsets In the Classroom. Focuses on cultivating Growth Mindsets for both staff and students. Has many charts and sheets for students/staff to use to help understand their own thinking and how to become growth, instead of fixed mindset.
I was a little disappointed that the text didn't offer much new insight from the first book. I found myself skipping a lot of passages because it wasn't giving me anything new.
The resources provided, however, will be invaluable.
