known as "Dr. Love"

Dr. Felice Leonardo Buscaglia Ph.D. was a professor in the Department of Special Education at the University of Southern California. He was a graduate of Theodore Roosevelt High School (Los Angeles).

Leo Buscaglia authored a number of New York Times bestselling inspirational books on love and human reticences on the subject, including The Fall of Freddie the Leaf, Bus 9 to Paradise, Living Loving and Learning, Love and My Father. In lectures he often protested, in outrage at the comparative absence of writings on the subject, "I got the copyright for love!!!"

I came upon this book unexpectedly when I was about 19 or 20. It was honestly one of the greatest discoveries of my life. Bus 9 spoke to me in a way no other book had or has done since. When I found out Leo Buscaglia was no longer living, I felt like I had lost a friend.

Bus 9 didn’t impact me the same way as it did when I first read it back in 1999. I think it’s still a beautiful book with an important message.

So far, when it comes to self-help books, Leo Buscaglia is the only one I trust. I feel like so many other authors are writing such generic things, like "to escape sadness and be happy, just make happy thoughts" or are so annoyingly giddy that they just disappoint me and make me wanna smack their faces for being so ignorant of people's hardships and problems and of how delicate the human soul is!
However, Buscaglia is nothing like them, he's just amazing. He is an absolute cutie pie with a deep understanding of the human soul and a realistic view of the world. He managed to be very encouraging and inspirational without giving false hopes or exaggerating about things. He was genuinely empowering. So, so sweet! His stories and the way he handled people just make your heart melt! I mean, come on, the guy compared hard-to-find, good people to unicorns, how cute is that? He just did his best to make people smile and remind them how beautiful life is and how important it is to treat others with love. He was just so nice and kind and important. Love that man!
Bus 9 to Paradise is a great lil book to lift your spirits. 'Living, Loving, Learning' reamains my favorite of his, though!

I first read this when I was a teenager and needed some affirmation. I picked it up again recently...because I needed tome affirmation. I got what I needed and a gentle challenge not to give up on making my world match my dreams, not just for me but for other people. All these years later some of the examples regarding technology are a bit dated but the message is still relevant. Embrace passion for life and do what you are able to make it a joyful experience.

I read many books by Buscaglia as a teenager. We even used him as a keynote speaker at my Catholic confirmation retreat. He had solid, usable advice on love, kindness, and compassion. Today, as a senior citizen, I realize that life itself is what really teaches one about love, kindness, and compassion. As a kid, Buscaglia offered me a safe and productive path to follow. I wish someone would now step into his shoes on a national level as Buscaglia was a light for many during the 1970s and 1980s.

This book can be dropped on the floor and whatever pages are revealed, will, without a doubt, be relatable to one's life or circumstance. Leo shows how very human we are with small anecdotes and short stories that consume your every emotion. I loved this book and have read it many, many times over. He has a passion for everything and allows us to indulge in our own love for many things in life.

It was very nice to hear Dr.Buscaglia share his thoughts on the world. Such a peaceful and radiant person is so hard to find, it’s almost like our natural reaction is to be cynical of someone so pure. But for the sake of the books his intentions were so pure and were focused around sharing his perceptions on the joy he experiences from certain components of his life. I am new to this style of book where a person monologues for 200+ pages, but it didn’t rub me the wrong way as much as I thought it would. It was hard to finish towards the end since the book wasn’t necessarily building to anything, each chapter being standalone yet similar in structure to the others. It was nice being reminded of Namma because of how much she thought I’d love him s few years ago, and I’m happy I finally got around to hearing what he has to say like she so strongly requested I do. I found myself reactionarily wanting to talk with her about certain things Leo shared as I read them.

In a world where people are afraid to live, Buscaglia shows that life can be found within you.He shares some of his beliefs about the passions that should guide us daily.Simple yet significant he is absolutely right.A right mindset can change your life and even lead you to bus 9th to Paradise..

I have read some of his other books too, and I love the fact that Buscaglia among his thoughts he shares some of his past life experiences, which a lot of times you find yourself relating too.

We read this book for our bookclub. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I know it is a older book, but did find it enjoyable.

It brought back many fond memories for me. . . from mom making soup/the smell of the house and enjoying eating it. To then being with both parents as they passed away. Yes, it was worth the read.

Truly can't understand why this was on the best seller list for so long. But then again, that was many years ago. Leo talks about all the good in the world and where to look for it, but there is not a single answer about solving any of the world's problems. Cute, feel-good book, but "where's the meat?"

This book brought me back to the '50s, 70's and 80's, with it's the message of living in the here and now. I enjoyed it immensely, but do feel much of its content and advice is just plain common sense.

I'm only giving it 3 stars, but not because I didn't like it, but rather because of the type of book I prefer. I enjoyed it for the most part, but I much prefer novels. I miss having characters, dialogue, and plot development. This is more of a self-help, advice book.

I love this man. He is one of my favorites authors. He is one of only a few people who really believe in the power of love. I am one of those people too.
This was the first book I read written from him and I really loved it.

Is a good book, but some of the stories from the Love classes are the same as the ones in the book living, loving and learning, so in moments it turns a little boring to read the same once again.

Es un buen libro, algunas historias de las clases de amor ya las conocia de los libros que lei antes del mismo autor.

Buscaglia writes about his excitement, passion and enthusiasm for life. He is very refreshing to read. Not only is his passion contagious, but it is extremely interesting. I took a large number of quotes from the book. I recommend rereading it only if the enthusiasm of life has been momentarily lost.

This is my first Leo Buscaglia book and I really enjoyed it. I liked his writing. It feels like he is talking directly to me. He uses so many real life examples to get across what he is expressing. In this book, Leo is teaching that you can find pleasure in everything in life. Each chapter is about a different aspect of life, i.e. food.

Leo Buscaglia does a extremely good job underlining several things in life that we must learn to have a passion for to enjoy life! Learning how to lower expectations and make the "have to's" in our life, "want to's"

Hace muchos años que leí este libro, pero en esa época lo disfruté mucho. es una lectura ligera sobre las experiencias del autor como parte de una familia de inmigrantes italianos desde su niñez y sus recuerdos de ese tiempo.
