The holiday season finds one treasured relationship about to be torn apart…while another is just coming together in this Christmas novel in Thomas Kinkade’s Cape Light series.
As Christmas approaches, Molly Harding and her partner—and best friend—Betty Bowman are swept up in the annual holiday rush at Willoughby’s Fine Food and Catering. With the business on shaky financial ground this year, the stakes are high. Suddenly, Betty must step back from the race to care for her husband, who is recovering from a serious injury. Molly is secretly overwhelmed but can’t bring herself to burden her friend with bad news.
But Molly knows that, sooner or later, the truth will come out. Then what? Will her independent, “I can do it” attitude bring ruin to the business that means so much to them? Even more important, will it destroy her close and loving friendship with Betty?
Meanwhile, a single mother, Carrie Munro, and her son, Noah, have come to Cape Light with the dream of starting a new life. Out of work, Carrie can hardly believe her luck when she gets a job working for Reverend Ben. Noah likes his new school and he’s especially happy with a new friend named Theo, whom Noah insists is an angel. Carrie is at first amused…then concerned. She hopes Dr. Jeffrey Carlson, a child psychologist, can help her son and help her understand the cause for Noah’s need for this imaginary friend. But as Christmas draws closer, Carrie starts to wonder if she’s the one who really needs Jeff’s guidance—to help her see the world again with the open, trusting heart of a child, and with the faith that anything is possible. Even angels. Even love.
Katherine Spencer was a fiction editor before turning to a full-time career as a writer. The author of more than thirty books, she also writes the Angel Island series, as well as the Black Sheep Knitting Mysteries under her real name, Anne Canadeo. She lives with her husband and daughter in a small village on the Long Island Sound. Outside of her office, she is active in many community charity projects.
Every year I look forward to the newest Cape Light installment and this year I found myself reading a good portion of this book in one morning! I think I enjoyed reading about Molly the most. She is so stubborn and unable to ask for help. It reminds me of myself a little bit, although I hope I would never put my company at risk (if I owned one!). Seeing her struggle throughout this book reminded me that even those we think have it all, really do not. You cannot judge a book by its cover, nor can we judge people or families by their outer appearances. There could be struggles in the home that we are not aware of and I am so thankful this years Cape Light installment reminded me of that.
I also enjoyed reading about Carrie and her son. He had such a strong belief that an angel was helping them, but Carrie could just not come to terms with that. I wonder how I would react if my daughter came to me saying that an angel had helped her find her homework assignment, or had told her where a missing lunch was at school. It really makes you thin, which is what a good book should do!
I cannot wait until next year when I can find out what is happening with all of my favorite Cape Light families, as well as meet who is new in town.
This novel allowed me to enjoy another Advent and Christmas season in Cape Light. This is the 16th book in the series and I still like spending time in this quaint New England town.
Heartbreaking and heartwarming all at the same time, Together for Christmas, the sixteenth book in the Cape Light series did not disappoint. Meeting up with old friends and making new ones and during the Christmas season once again makes it even more special. This is Molly's story and it embraces hope and love while also having a lot of darkness and despair. It was nice to see the community spirit and be back on Main Street and with Reverend Ben at the church.
There was even some angel magic going on, reminiscent to me of Debbie Macomber's Mrs. Miracle books along with Shirley, Mercy and Goodness, but this time in the form of Theo! I loved the descriptions of the town, the shops, the food and even the struggles. There is a happily ever after in the offing and nice closure but I know there are more stories to tell since the series keeps going like the Energizer Bunny. I hope to catch up on the rest of the series throughout the year.
Ms. Spencer has kept Thomas Kinkade's Cape Light alive and her voice sounds like his. What wonderful stories filled with the feeling of wonder and the holidays even if things don't always go as planned. Give this series a try if you haven't already. You'll be glad you did!
What a wonderful story of faith, hope and love! I was once again transported to beautiful Cape Light and its residents. I love the comraderie and compassion of the Pastor and his wife. His sermons are always " right on!" This book was such a treat!
Another great book in the Cape Light series. Each story has great life lessons for readers. Life always has challenges and the characters in this book must make decisions that affect many lives. Always uplifting and centered around Christmas.
After taking a few years off from reading this series, I've now read three in a row and am really enjoying catching up with the inhabitants of Cape Light. The characters seem real to me with real problems, but there's always a great solution and lessons learned.
This story by Katherine Spencer "Together for Christmas" #16 in Cape Light series is a gentle read for Christmas time. The creative characters, east coast of Massachusetts, and happy ending will have readers researching for more tales in this series. copy right 2015 398 pages LP
I always enjoy these holiday reads and the continuing tale of the people of Cape Light. While there is a romantic component to each, there is also a story about life's challenges.
I just finished reading TOGETHER FOR CHRISTMAS by Katherine Spencer. I really enjoyed the story. I was so glad there was a happy ending for both Molly and Carrie.
I have read all of the Thomas Kinkade Cape Light series and always anticipate the next one. This one is no different. Katherine Spencer has continued the series in the same style that she and Kinkade started in 2004. It is interesting to visit with old friends and meet new ones. This story focuses on two women and the people in their lives. One is a successful business woman, Molly Willoughby, whom we have met in previous books. Ironically, she receives word that she is being honored with the Business Owner of the Year award by the Cape Light Merchant's Association right when she is struggling through one of the most difficult periods of her life. Is she going to lose her business? Is there any way to salvage the relationship with her very best friend and business partner after leaving her in the dark about the problems surrounding the business? How will she ever survive? Meanwhile, a young divorced woman with a seven-year-old son has just arrived in Cape Light and gets a job working for Reverend Ben temporarily. Her son, Noah, has an angel by his side constantly who gives him guidance, warns him of impending danger, and helps him find lost homework assignments, among may other things. How does a single mother deal with a son who insists that his angel has told him what to do? Does she accept it and go on as if nothing unusual is happening? Does she try to convince him that it's just his imagination? Where does a mother turn for help in a situation like that? Although the lives of the two main characters do not intersect in any significant way, they involve some of the same people, particularly Reverend Ben. He has pastored the church in Cape Light for a number of years and has been a real help in the lives of so many people living there. His sermons help his congregants draw strength from their faith and offer good guidance for their daily lives. I recommend this book as a heartwarming Christmas story. Along with the others in the series. it is excellent reading as the Christmas season draws near.
Molly Harding and Betty Bowman not only own a bakery but they are best friends. Betty, during the bakery's busiest time of year, is off helping her husband recuperate from an accident. That leaves Molly to handle not only the money side of the business but the baking side too. She is an expert at baking but not at handling money. With Christmas being just a short time away Molly is overwhelmed with it all and finds herself spiraling into a blue funk that will not leave. She believes that she is a total failure and that Betty will never forgive her.
Carrie Munro and her son, Noah, have moved to Cape Light for a fresh start on life after her disastrous marriage came to a much needed end. When she learns that Noah has been befriended by an unseen angel named Theo she begins to worry that life has been to rough on him and sends him to a child psychologist to try to find out what is wrong. She and Noah both take a liking to Dr. Jeff Carlson and things begin to look up for them.
It's Christmas season in Cape Light. Filled with wonderful small town characters, the focus this time is on Molly Harding and Betty Bowman the owners of Willoughby Bakery and Carrie Munro and her son, Noah, who are recent newcomers to Cape Light.
This book focuses on hope, second chances, forgiveness, and understanding. It is filled with great spiritual wisdom and wonderful warmhearted, helpful, caring people. I loved how the town pulled together for Molly after her accident and how she learned to forgive herself for not reaching out to others for help when the business got into troubles. Carries love and support for Noah as he dealt with his imaginary friend along with the help from counselor, Dr. Jeffrey Carlson was sweet. Their slowly developing romance went at a perfect pace.
Another delightful Christmas read from the town of Cape Light.
I needed a shot of goodness and love so this was a perfect book to read! I love the people of Cape Light and all the adventures they get up to and the love and caring they show each other. Yea for upbeat stories! If you decide to read this series, do start at book one because you will see changes in people and the stories will make a lot more sense. Each one is set around Christmas and they all follow the people of Cape Light. YEA!
There was quite a bit of repetition in one of the two parallel storylines, which I found frustrating after awhile. The point might have been to show the level of stubbornness of the character, but it left me less sympathetic to her and anxious to get back to the other story line.
I also found myself repeatedly hoping and wondering if the parallel storylines would intertwine, and still wish they had.
Always the best Christmas series ever!! It wouldn't be Christmas for me if I couldn't escape the chaios and travel to Cape Light and catch up on some good friends....even if it is just for a moment in time.
Excellent once again! I always recommend this series for a good Christmas read. There isn't a thing I would change! Looking forward to the next book \ visit to Cape Light.
I absolutely love this series! This book was wonderful! And I'm really happy the series is continuing, even after Thomas Kinkade passed away. Thank you! As I have said in the past, read the books in order so that it's easier to know who is who, with whom they are with, and what exactly it is they are doing. I can't wait for the next book in the series!
