Nanti mau coba baca lagi versi novel aja
A newly orphaned young woman, Anne Beddingfield, heads off to make her way in the world and finds herself embroiled in the midst of an unexpected adventure. Anne is spunky, if a bit too naïve and reminded me a bit of Catherine in Northanger Abbey. Anne’s read too many mystery novels (as opposed to Catherine’s penchant for gothic novels) and sees a bit of mystery in everything.
I wasn’t thrilled with this one. I won’t get into the plot too much, except to say Anne witnesses a death, meets lots of people and ends up falling in love. It was nothing to keep you up at night flipping pages, which is kinda what I want from a mystery. It was less creepy goodness and more whodunit with a dollop of romance.
It’s not a bad book, just a light entertaining read. It’s not quite up to par with some of Christie’s darker murder mysteries, like my favorite, And Then There Were None. I’d skip this one and pick up a different Christie instead.
This graphic novel just wasn't for me. I absolutely love the original novel written by Agatha Christie. There wasn't enough story in the graphic novel - it was confusing.
Not a bad story but I think the format lost a fair amount of detail that I presume is in the original, this made it a little confusing to follow. The big challenge for me was the big time shifts, these definitely lost me a few times. Think I may need to go back and read the original instead. I liked the artwork though and definitely found the story intriguing.
Anne Beddingfield is looking for some adventure, and she may just have found more than she bargained for. In the course of one day she runs into a man in a brown who is involved in a man dying on tracks, and she reads in the paper about a man in a brown suit being suspected in the murder of a woman. She finds a clue in the woman's apartment which has her taking a job as a reporter and boarding a cruise ship to South Africa chasing down a lead. Little does she realize that the mystery involves stolen diamonds, false accusations years old, the start of a war, and some people who don't like their plans getting ruffled.
This was a decent mystery/adventure, but I had some big issues with the illustrations. The clothing style kept changing decades as if the artist couldn't decide which time period the characters were in. It was distracting. Other than that no issues. This series keeps the gore to a minimum so it's safe even for kids.
Notes on content: No language issues. No sexual content beyond a kiss. There are a few deaths, but nothing gory.
I think I’ve always liked the idea of graphic novels more than I actually do in reality, but nonetheless I dived into this adaption of one of favourite Agatha Christie novels with high hopes but I’m afraid I soon became disappointed.
Luckily I know the original story pretty much inside out so was able to fill in the blanks made by great chunks of Christie’s story, which had presumably had to have been left out to make the plot work as a graphic novel, but without that pre-knowledge I doubt the story would have made sense. I may however be doing the graphic artist a disservice and it may be that because I knew there were bits missing that I felt unsatisfied by the book, but either way the whole experience was a big disappointment and I won’t be reading any of the other graphic novel adaptations of Christie novels in the future. I would however strongly recommend the original book.
I usually adore a graphic novel and a good mystery, so when I discovered that Agatha Christie’s books had been adapted into them I had to check it out.
Unfortunately the graphic novel is so short it barely goes into detail, the story makes you more confused as you read each page. It’s definitely a book you should read after you have read the original story as you will only really understand the premise after you have done so.
The illustrations themselves are beautiful and I am going to read more of the graphic novel adaptations but it’s only really worthwhile in my opinion if you have read the original.
This suffers from trying to fit a novel full of twists and such into too few pages of adaptation. It's DREADFULLY confusing and the end goes completely unexplained as if you had to read the book to understand what the last page means.
I also have a strong hunch that it's translated poorly.
Then Agatha even annoyed me by choosing a noob as the detective for this type of story simply because she had to make so many clues just occur/appear by utter chance piled on top of constant pure luck! I'd love that sort main character in a story that suits her appropriately.
Nothing wrong with Agatha Christie, but I'm afraid this adaptation doesn't do her justice. There are too many holes in the narration and I have a feeling certain information must be missing. Not impressed at all.
Je n'avais pas apprécié le roman du même nom lu il y a quelques mois. L'adaptation scénaristique de cette BD est d'autant plus médiocre. Seuls les dessins très travaillés ne m'ont pas laissé indifférent.
Hahahahaha detail review will be updated later. In general, this book is only for collection, you must read the original story in the novel. This is lame and has ruined a great story 😅
