The Very Hungry Caterpillar meets Christmas and counting. A very basic way to introduce counting, and Christmas themed words to children. Of course it ends with the hungry caterpillar become a beautiful butterfly (despite him not eating his way through penguins ;) )

A lovely addition to the Hungry Caterpillar collection. It focuses on counting the Christmas objects, such as a tree or a reindeer, and you are encouraged to find the tiny caterpillar hidden on each page. It's a good chunky board book too, so is suitable for the youngest of readers.

Reliably colorful and cheerful, like all Eric Carle books. Not nearly as wonderful as the original very hungry caterpillar story.

Winter is a season that's fun for all, even The Very Hungry Caterpillar! Our little caterpillar finds big joy in warming itself near a cozy fire, then inching outside to sled down a hill and to help build a frosty snowman. But nothing makes a Very Hungry Caterpillar happier on a cold winter day than a warm treat pulled fresh from the oven!

Eric Carle's playful illustrations make The Very Hungry Caterpillar's First Winter a fun seasonal book for parents and hungry little listeners alike. Additionally, young children will take special delight in finding the little caterpillar on each colorful spread.

A sturdy Christmas-themed 1 to 10 counting book that includes irregular plurals of "snowmen" and "reindeer". It could be improved by adding touch-and-feel elements. The reindeer pages depict one reindeer with antlers and a mane of hair under its neck, and eight without antlers or neck furs in the snow. This may confuse the young readers. The eight look more like female deer rather than reindeer, as both male and female reindeer have neck furs, and female reindeer keep their antlers throughout the winter, while male reindeer drop their antlers after fall.

In this book, children learn to count and recognize pictures. Everything is in a Christmas atmosphere. We can find very hungry caterpillars everywhere. I like all books where is very hungry caterpillar, and this book is also nice. At the end of the book, the very hungry caterpillar is a beautiful butterfly. The illustrations are very nice. Great book for children

While super simple and straight forward, Maeve loved this one at 14-15 months! She enjoyed counting along with me with her index finger. I helped guide her finger to each one saying “one, two, three, four, five snowflakes!” Etc. Made counting interactive and fun together 🤗

I love these season themed books & I kind of want to collect them all for my son. He has the summer version but I prefer this one. It's all about cozy winter things & would be great to read in our snowy Colorado winters.

My 2 year old nephew got this book from Santa and asked me to read it to him. I’ve loved Eric Carle since I was little and enjoyed this book just as much as all of his others. My nephew was excited and engaged throughout the book and loved finding the caterpillar on each page and exclaiming “there he is!” Each time. 5 stars!!

This was a bright and colorful counting book. On each page there are Christmas items for children to count, the items are spelled out in nice black print (Christmas trees, snowmen, penguins, stars, etc.), there is the number printed out in letters and then there is also the number printed out in numerical format. That is what makes this a great book. Although this book only goes to the number ten, I love that it has everything included on each page. Children can see that eight means 8, that six means 6 and that nine means 9, the sooner they can learn these, the better. I love the black simple text that spell out each illustration, this also helps the child understand letter formation, that words are made up of letters and hopefully they will begin to recognize letters and sounds. These words might also become the child’s sight words. The illustrations are bright and simple too. The hungry caterpillar makes his appearance on every page and on the last page like in his famous book; he is no longer a hungry caterpillar. What a great addition to your library.
I want to thank YABC for a copy of this novel for I received this book as a part of YABooksCentral.com 12 Days of Christmas. This is my own opinion of this children’s book.

Fun Christmas counting addition to the Hungry Caterpillar line of books. Caterpillar wiggles his way across all the items that make the holidays fun and he ends with a surprise present of his own.
