Penguin decides to go on an adventure to discover what Fall is like off the ice floes. He gathered up some friends, but must leave his little brother, Pumpkin, behind. What these penguins discover dazzles and amazes them, to the point that they have to return with many items to show the others. As the penguins celebrate the season on their floe, little Pumpkin wonders what the entire experience was like for his brother. Penguin takes the time to show him. Neo loves autumn (fall) for all the colours and that chance to eat pumpkin pie. When the leaves fall, I know one kid who will be ready for the entire experience, hands down.

I'm not sure I understand the appeal of these books. They're super simple, kind of silly, not at all realistic, and the illustrations aren't very interesting.

In this book, a penguin named Penguin takes all his friends to go to a farm (somewhere) and see pumpkins. Little brother Pumpkin wants to come, but he's too small. So the older penguins leave and head off to the farm on an ice floe. They pick out some pumpkins, grab a box full of leaves, and head back to Antarctica (I'm assuming). Then Pumpkin tells Penguin all the fun he's had imagining some adventures while they've been gone. But he still wishes he knew what fall looks like. So Penguin makes it rain leaves.

I guess if you're two, this is fine literature. But I find these books annoyingly basic.

One of the penguins is definitely dressed as Harry Potter.

The book brought up some deep question. Penguins live on the South Pole, SO, as we in the Northern Hemisphere get all excited about Fall, it is Spring in the S.P. Okay, next they travel to the "farm" on an iceberg. Where is the farm? Falkland Island?

And they come back to the S.P. in a Pumpkin...it is either a HUGE pumpkin or the penguins are are the size of my hand.

Also, the most puzzling of questions, is Pumpkin an abundant Crop in Southern Chile or Southern Argentina? I just don't know! Do they oak leaves in the Southern Hemisphere (the leaves they are throwing look like oak leaves)

These are probing questions that I am sure will keep me up tonight...

The pictures are great the story is a warm fuzzy. Good Fall/Spring read!!

I do love Penguin books! The illustrations and fall colors were beautiful. The writing seemed a little off to me. There were a couple of times I thought the transitions were weak - there were a couple of times I thought it was going in a certain direction, and it did, but not in the logical place (at least in my thinking).

The penguins decide to find out what fall is like in parts that aren't covered in ice year 'round. They go on a voyage and find many pumpkins to love, but Pumpkin the penguin is too small to come. So when they get home, the penguins show him just what fall is like.

Well, this is cozy. It's not a very impactful story, but the wordplay is classy and the illustrations adorable.

I loved the first book in this series, Penguin and Pinecone, but the magic seems to have stopped there. The premise of this book is forced, the world doesn't make sense, it's a disappointment. Big meh.

Penguin and Pumpkin by Salina Yoon – I know I’ve read this before, but I couldn’t resist another visit with this cute little Penguin. Loved the development of Penguin’s story and how fall looks to others. Very cute, beautiful illustrations as well.

The illustrations in this book are simple and colorful and children will definitely get a kick out of them. The story was good and my daughter enjoyed it and laughed when the little penguin got to see what fall was about. Would recommend.

Cute, but a little long for storytime. Might work for Adopt-A-Class, since the audience is older...

In this story, a few penguin friends decide they want to go to the mainland to see what fall looks like, but they won’t let Penguin’s little brother come. They went and picked out pumpkins and brought them back, and showed them to Penguin’s brother, Pumpkin. He was still sad that he didn’t get to see fall, so they threw leaves off a cliff so he could see what it was like. The two main characters are Pumpkin and Penguin; they are siblings. Pumpkin is young and he is too young to go to the mainland, but has a good imagination and is excited and appreciative of what they brought back. Penguin is Pumpkin’s older brother. He is selfless and a good older brother because although Pumpkin is too young to go to the mainland, he thinks about him and tries to allow him to see what fall looks like. The structure is chronological and the illustrations are cartoons that show clearly what is going on in the story, and shows what each character looks like. I liked this book because Penguin cared about his younger brother, and even thinks about him while he is gone. I could use this in the classroom during fall when the students are going to the pumpkin patches so that they could relate, and then also show them to be nice and care about their siblings.

Featured in a grandma reads session.

Penguin is a diligent big brother to Pumpkin! My group has diligent big brothers, too, and they followed the narrative closely as a pumpkin patch is visited. Penguin wants to help Pumpkin experience the excitement of the outing from which Pumpkin was excluded, being too small for all the action. (Some of my group ruefully understood and voiced their empathy.)

The combination of the seasonal hits and the family and friends dynamic provided by Salina Yoons Autumny picture book was a great way to start our reading session. This is all about the fall season, and doesn't mention or have any symbols of a particular holiday. However, here's our WARNING: If you haven't been to a pumpkin patch yet, after this read the pressure will be on!

Penguin and Pumpkin was a cute book following a penguin's journey to learn more about fall.

Penguin is curious what fall is like off the ice leading to him and some friends journeying to a faraway farm to experience fall on land. But Penguin's little brother Pumpkin is too little to come along so Penguin needs to find a way to bring fall back with him so Pumpkin can join in on the fun.

The cover of this book caught my eye and it sounded cute so I decided to pick it up. I really enjoyed the art style of the illustrations with the bright colors and attention to detail. Each of the penguins has their own style and I liked how unique they each were. Penguin's choice to bring fall back for his little brother was sweet and I liked how he accomplished that.

Overall Penguin and Pumpkin was an enjoyable read and I would definitely recommend it for younger readers.

This is inferior to the original with the pinecone. I assume the huge cast of characters might be from others in the series, so without having read those books, the new characters were a bit overwhelming. I wish the title reflected that the story is really about the Penguin's little brother. The fall details contrasted with the penguin community are cute, but more silly than charming, in my opinion. I'm sure many families will still enjoy Penguin and Pumpkin and the many books in between. The illustrations are really well done and work well with the text.

It's all ice and snow where penguin lives, even though technically it is autumn. Penguin wonders if autumn is different on the farm? There's only one way to find out! Baby Pumpkin wants to come along -- but just isn't quite old enough. But it's OK! Penguin will be sure to bring back a few fun surprise for Pumpkin!
Great book to talk about penguins; different climates; and - of course - fall.

We're so proud you read "Penguin and Pumpkin" by yourself! Like Penguin thinking of little brother Pumpkin, you learned that caring means sharing special moments with people we love. When you have wonderful experiences, you can include others by telling stories or bringing something special home. Penguin showed us the best adventures are ones we share with family. (3.8/5) This is a cute little story about family and fall, as well as an adventure that was well illustrated and undoubtedly great for little ones. My only complaint is that the ending felt a little abrupt - it feels like another couple of pages would not have gone amiss to give a bit more finality to the story. But still a great fall adventure!

Penguin and his friends set off to visit the farm and find out about fall. Penguin can’t bring his little brother Pumpkin, so he finds a way to bring fall to their snowy home. Cute illustrations with funny details will appeal to young readers. The story is good if you are looking for a wholesome fall story.

A little penguin named Pumpkin wants to know what Fall looks like. His big brother and his friends go in search of the farm where they can see fall, but Pumpkin is too little so they bring pumpkins and leaves back and show Pumpkin and the others what they saw. Sweet story and beautifully illustrated.

Penguin and it's friends travel to a farm to experience fall harvest. Because Penguin's little sibling (Pumpkin) can't go, Penguin takes back leaves and pumpkins to give Pumpkin an opportunity to imagine what fall is like.

The simplicity and beauty that I loved about Penguin and Pinecone was missing in this story.
