*This is a standalone novella featuring characters briefly introduced in Black Gold #2.*
Falling in love with the twenty-two year old woman I'm supposed to be protecting was never part of the job description. But there are no words that can describe Lacey Addams Long and do her justice.
Curvy, sweet, vulnerable, sexier than a shiny, new Ferrari in a light rain...
And legally blind.
Her only hope to restore her sight is a surgery that could plunge her into total darkness. The window of opportunity for a successful operation is closing fast and there's only one thing that will break the deadlock of the last few months.
Me...in her bed, between her thighs, giving her something she's never had before while she still has a fraction of her vision left.
I'm not a gentleman. I'm a hired mercenary, a former soldier and I want what she's offering. But a woman like Lacey isn't looking for one night only no matter what she claims. And if I give in, if I surrender to her soft curves and gentle smile so that she has the surgery, it just might be me left alone in the dark.
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Christa Wick has been hybrid publishing since 2012 (yep, she's one of the O.G. indie authors). She's written 50+ romances starring curvalicious heroines and alphalicious heroes whose stories span the spectrum of: steamy & sweet, steamy & emotional, steamy & suspenseful, steamy & paranormal, steamy & dark, and...well, you get the idea. Her darker, dirtier books are under C.M. Wick, and she also writes general fiction sci-fi thrillers and suspense novels under other pen names.
This is my first book by this author and I will definitely be checking into more. This is a story about a reformed manwhore bodyguard and his virginal blind heroine.
-no cheating or ow/om drama whatsoever - although there is reference to his manwhore past, we don't have to see any of it or any of the women -hero initially fought his feeling and tried to push her away -no violence -no epilogue which brought my rating down tremendously. Some things came to light and there was zero wrap up.

Tempted Beyond Reason: An Alpha Hero & Curvy Heroine Standalone: Wake & Lacey (Far Too Tempting Book 1) by Christa Wick
Tempted Beyond Reason is all heart with an edginess that exudes heat. Wake and Lacey are an attraction waiting to explode. Will their emotions become collateral damage? Wick seduces the heart with a dangerously, naughty, almost inevitable and always unpredictable dance of love. Five fierce thumbs up.
There’s nothing I love more than the thrill of discovering a new author. This is my first book by Christa Wick and most definitely not my last. I loved Wake and Lacey’s story. There was just the right amount of angst and a whole lot of lovin’ which made this book a thoroughly enjoyable read.
Muscular, gruff bodyguard, Wake Robinson, has discovered that he is wildly attracted to the woman he is paid to protect, legally blind Lacey Grennan. This insightful narrative gives the reader a peek into the real heart of each of these characters. It's very difficult not to adore Wake after learning he is fully attached to Lacey even before she undergoes a corrective surgury on her eyes. His protective and unselfish efforts toward Lacey is heart melting. Lacey is inexperienced and a delightful individual. I thoroughly enjoyed reading their story. Their tale was amusing and they were great company. Love It~!!!!!
It was just really… not a good book. There was almost no build up to their relationship, no character development at all really. I couldn’t connect with the characters and their relationship because they weren’t given any time to develop it.
And don’t get me started on how infantized she was. At 22 she didn’t know what a blow job was, or how sensitive a penis was or literally anything, at all, no matter how common knowledge.
Her mother was almost so overdramatized that I almost wanted to like her just to be annoying. There was no subtlety.
I mean… it was short, at least? But definitely not for me.
Wake and Lacey. It was a cute short story. Full of steam and tears. I was going for more angst with the fact that he was her bodyguard and wondering if that was warranted due to a real threat besides a horrible mother. Glad she got her due.
Wylie and rhea. Wow so much drama and back and forth. I really liked Wylie. You could tell despite his not so great angle in following rhea. He saw something in her. And he was a truly good guy. Loved how he fought for her. Even when she wouldn’t fight for them.
Good quick read. It didn't do a whole lot for me plot wise, and I think I would've liked to see more of how these two developed their feelings. We're kind of just thrown in after they've already been spending a lot of time together and it's supposed to be assumed that they've both had time to develop certain affections for one another. But the spice is definitely there. Nothing to complain about on that end.
Not sure if I'll continue reading any of the others, but this definitely a good, short novella to dive into when you're looking for something quick and easy to read.
Wake is Lacey's bodyguard. Over the four months he's guarded her he's fallen in love but he thinks it's just lust. She's fallen in love with him and he thinks it's just a crush. When she tries to get him fired for turning down one night in her bed things heart up. Things move quickly after that.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. I’ve read this book before, but goodness, it was just as good the second time around. Not only is this the rare book that’s told only through the male point of view, but he’s very protective and swoon-worthy. My favorite parts are both times involving ears. (LOL) It’s funny while also being cute.
This book contained only the first book “Tempted Beyond Reason”. Glad it was free, otherwise I would be a little annoyed. It did guarantee that I won’t purchase any of the other books in this Deal Duos Collection though.
Interesting story. Watching Wake and Lacey handle her blindness and still falling in love was a good story. Look forward to reading more books by this author.
I don’t know. It (and the next story) were strange to me. The sex scenes were weird, borderline Penthouse magazine. Both stories just didn’t sit well with me, for some reason.
I really wanted to finish this as the plot was somewhat interesting. However the female lead was too immature and the internal dialogue was too much. DNF after 19%.
Liked the positives given the plus-sized charactrers. The second book needed a warning about the over-the-top physicality...not my cup of tea. Overall good stories.
Being a former military man Wake is hired by his friend to protect his partially blind cousin Lacey. Lacey may be partially blind and innocent but shes not deaf and hears all the comments people say about her as well as what the female staff say about riding the Wake. Lacey is torn with the dilemma of risking losing what little sight she has faster than anticipated if she has surgery and it doesn't work or let nature take its course and continue to lose her sight gradually. Having been guarding Lacey for a few months now Wake's feelings are becoming more than just what they should be as an employee. When Wake finds the reason Lacey is stalling on making a decision on her surgery is because she wants her first time making love to be with him while she can still partially see, he is torn between risking being able to do his job properly thru falling too deep with Lacey and giving in to his burning desire to have her under him knowing that one night will never be enough for him. Wake is fierce, loyal and protective where as Lacey is sweet and innocent and wanting to experience as many first as she can. A first for me reading anything by this author but I enjoyed this Short and steamy read, looking forward to reading more by this author.
Christa Wick is a new to me author, and I really enjoyed Tempted Beyond Reason, I just wished it had been longer. It's a short(ish) but sexy read that like I said, wished had been longer, as I wanted more of Wake & Lacey. See, she's a girl, who hasn't had it easy in life, because her mother is a real piece of work, and has constantly told her what's wrong with her. Lacey is legally blind, like almost can't see at all, so mommy dearest was a witch, not to mention, made sure to only spend her father's money on herself, leaving Lacey in the bare minimum. Wake was hired by Lacey's cousin to guard her, and Wake really wants to make Lacey his, but he can't cross that line, that is, until Lacey asks him too, he refuses, and Lacey's cousin basically reads him the riot act for hurting her when she asks him to fire Wake. So all bets are off at that point. Their chemistry is potent, so sexy times light the sheets on fire! However, Lacey has a big decision to make about a surgery that could give her sight back, or completely blind her. So what does she decide? And do she & Wake actually get together in a relationship? For answers to these questions, you'll have to one click it to find out! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
