Though Chika and Shito manage to extract the girls from the clutches of the Butterfly Killer's fans, the case takes a shocking turn when an unexpected betrayal is revealed! With heavy hearts, the members of Z-Loan close the case, but they still can't shake the blues. So the Chancellor sponsors a group trip to the hot springs, which starts out all fun and games but ends with...a howl!?
Peach-Pit (ピーチ・ピット Pīchi Pitto) is a female manga artist duo in Japan, made up of Banri Sendo (千道 万里 Sendō Banri) and Shibuko Ebara (えばら 渋子 Ebara Shibuko). Their group name derives from the diner hangout Peach-Pit from the TV show Beverly Hills, 90210. Although both have similar styles, with some artwork it is possible to identify which artist drew it. Both are known for their bishōjo styled works. As noted in their books, they are both Geminis and have "Almost flushed our phones down the toilet...twice."
The two of them grew up together and went to the same elementary school and have been best friends ever since. Both started as doujinshi manga artists, but not as Peach-Pit. Then they were scouted by Dengeki Comic Gao!. In 2008, one of their manga, Shugo Chara!, was awarded the Kodansha Manga Award for best children's manga. Shugo Chara was also turned later into an Anime television series.
I don't know whether it's a translation issue, but I always seem to have a bit of a hard time keeping up with this manga. From one page to the next a totally different thing can be happening, conversations seem to start half way through with no indication where they came from or what the characters are saying. The art is quite busy sometimes too, and this volume seems to suffer from quite a few pages where the speech bubbles are so close to the inside that the first letter of each word is cut off, even if you bend it open as fully as possible.
Looking past all that, about half way through I started getting into the swing of things. The storyline moves forward quite a bit, we learn more about the lore of the zombies in this world (different types, and what they can or can't do) and the next volume is set up.
Chika and Shito have saved the girls from the fans of "The Butterfly" - but the hunt will end up being far less rewarding as a traitor is revealed...and not even a relaxing trip to a spa soon after can bring the team together when a monster is on the prowl! Peach-Pit gives fans another strange entry to an intriguing tale.
Chika and Shito arrive too late to prevent Michiru and Koyomi from being kidnapped! They find themselves in the midst of the Butterfly’s fans, who are certainly a strange lot. Sitting around the dinner table with them gives Michiru an eerie feeling, especially when one person announces there is a heretic among them! Panicking, Michiru attempts to rouse the slumbering Koyomi, only to discover that it is Yomi who responds to her frantic pleas. And then the cavalry arrives, aka Shito and Chika!
One of the fans escapes, and Michiru says she noticed a black ring around his neck, so the boys are up to going after him. Koyomi is in no condition to come with, but they call Yuuta to come and get her and off they go! They follow him into a decrepit abandoned building. Turns out this isn’t just any old fan of the Butterfly – it’s the man himself! And, even better, he has become a god! Shades of Caligula!
Or is he?
Michiru is concerned about Chika. He seems understandably down after recent shocking events. She wants to help, but his request to sleep in her room throws her for a loop! Shito finds himself stuck with him when Michiru refuses.
The Chancellor decides everyone needs a chance to relax, so she sponsors a trip for everyone to the hot springs, including the Ferryman! Yay! But things take an unexpected turn when they arrive at a hotel that was shut down 27 years ago because of rumors of ghosts on the premises. Michiru’s room is next to Shito and Chika’s, and she can hear that, as usual, they are arguing. So she retreats to the hot springs to find Koyomi has arrived before her. Except it isn’t Koyomi, it’s Yomi, and she’s… well-developed. Which is a little intimidating for Michiru. And Yomi is so…touchy feely!
An impartial lottery decides Michiru and Shito have to go to the store to buy ingredients for dinner. But of course, nothing is simple with them, and trouble is never far behind.
I am really enjoying this series, and I like all the characters. This volume has an unexpected and horrific betrayal! Never saw that coming. The relaxation trip is pretty cute and the cliffhanger leaves us wondering what is going to happen to Shito? Can’t wait for the next book!
This one had more action than the last one, so I enjoyed it. The girls get mistaken that they’re part of the killer club and they got taken to a restaurant and the boys rescue them but they follow one of the guys that’s posing as the butterfly killer and they kill him and the rescue the girl then she does friend takes her home. Then she turns into a zombie then they find out that his best friend was actually the killer, and that makes him really sad so they decide to go on a vacation the notification they meet a werewolf guard that comes home with them. This one’s fine. It was more fast paced so I enjoyed it then we also see that there’s something behind the scenes that somebody’s making fake zombies, so I’m sure in the next one it’ll be about the fish zombies and then at the end we see a guy I’m sure he’s gonna play a role to, but this one is better than the last hopefully the next one will be better than this one.

I knew there was something about that Shiba character. Besides that, a decent volume and this series continues to be interesting. I quite like this iteration of zombies, where the ones with "awareness" are slowly losing it the longer they are zombies. But I'm still really confused about the combination of types of magic in the series. I'll have to think about whether I continue the series.
Love the cover! While not a hilarious giggling sort of funny I do enjoy the humor in the volume - it all stems from the characters which I love! The art is beautiful as ever - so clean and sharp - it fits events so well. I have several favorite frames, despite the text still being hard to designate to the right speaker.
I liked how the butterfly was woven into Chika's back history - it's really sad when those who influenced you so strongly won't allow you to return the favor. Normally I dislike someone hanging on another when its obvious they won't change, but in the case of Chika, he's always been the overboard type so it was really in character.
I really loved Shito's reaction to it all - from trying to shoot Shiba himself to allowing Chika to sleep with him because "it would take too much effort to get him out." Shiba was an interesting character, I didn't see coming. I also loved that we were teased that Shito's background is next!
Okay in this book we finally found out who is the Butterfly. It is the person you last expect. I was sorta shocked when it was revealed. However, we all know the Butterfly is killed at the end? Nope not this weirdo a shinigami swoopes by and carry Butterfly away. Then the Zombie Loan team goes on a small mini vacation to a hot spring. There they come across what they think is a zombie werewolf. But it's not!! It's much cooler then that... it's a man...(silence). The end.LOL. I really enjoyed this book. I love how Michiru personality is coming out more. The last chapter in this book, I see a spark of a new relationship between Chika and Michiru. But I don't think Chika realize it yet. I don't even think she realizes, that Yomi is fondling and being kind of flirty with her. Over all I love her character and I love the Chancellor. Even though little is told about her. I like her as well.
I like the chancellor/chairman, gosh. I re-read this entire series again (I already sorta know how everything will end), and I'm reading this again because I want to reminisce the time I'm really into this manga, it's so nostalgic.
The characters are growing on me. This volume reveals some characters depth as a result of an unexpected turn out. I enjoyed this volume. If I continue I'll only gush about the details and a certain character or two.
The Butterfly story ends with a bang and then the story drags in its dust as R&R happens for the team. In the end another new character enters the story.
Well, this one was more interesting thank Vol.2, but I'm going to stop this series here. There are too many "why am I reading this" more than interesting parts. This isn't worth my time.
3.5 stars. This was much better than the other books in the series. So much better. I actually found myself enjoying it. If the rest of the manga is this good, I might continue with the series.
