Survivalist Russ Donovan is the toughest man in America, with a reality TV show to prove it. Now he’s been strong-armed into filming a new show with dainty lifestyle expert Susannah Stone. But while “At Home in the Wild” could mean millions for his family’s charity, Russ plans to put Little Susie Homemaker to the test—in the Adirondack Mountains in the dead of winter. And there's no way she'll be able to hack it...
Susannah is tougher than she looks. She's had to fight her way through life, and there's no way she'll let a bossy mountain man show her up. When she gets him on her turf, he’s in serious trouble. But now she's run into a bit of problem. Because no one—least of all Russ and Susannah—expects sparks to fly both on camera and off. And now everyone will see their risqué rivalry break all of the rules...
Amanda Usen has spent most of her life immersed in story—and butter, sugar, flour, and eggs. After graduating from college, she fortified her English BA with a degree from the Culinary Institute of America, figuring a professional chef would never be a starving writer. Amanda loves chocolate, yoga, and carbs in all forms. When she isn’t writing or cooking, she can usually be found reading or hanging out with her small menagerie of cats, ducks, and mostly-grown children.

We all know the saying opposites attracts well this couldn't be more true in Amanda Usen's Impulse Control. A survivalist and a homemaker!! Couldn't get more opposite than that. The only thing that is heating up in the kitchen is when these two total opposites finally lose control and let their desires and feelings takeover. So when Russ and Susannah are forced to do a reality TV show that integrates their talents and skills, things begins to ignite when these two stubborn adults find out that maybe opposites do really attract and they are wild for each other. Can this Wild Man find his own Wild Woman? Can this single mom take the biggest dare of her life... to get wild and lose control?
Impulse Control by Amanda Usen was an enjoyable and sizzling read. Russ Donovan may be known as the Wild Man for his survivalist instincts and TV show, but that man can make any woman wild for his love. But luckily for him, this wild man found a woman who is equally wild. Together they embark on the biggest challenge. The dare to love. I loved how we are allowed to see two different perspectives of two adults bearing each other's vulnerabilities, flaws, fears, and the past that continues to haunt them. This book was more than about romance since its about letting go, taking risks, opening up your heart to love and taking that adventure. So if you are looking for a book that will touch your heart and heat up those kindles, then go read Impulse Control by Amanda Usen.
Alur buku ini lumayan cepet. Tapi menurutku kebanyakan adegan hotnya jadi feelnya nggak dapet aja kecuali soal seks. Semuanya kelewat sempurna. Makin insecure😂. Kebanyakan adegan wah jadi aku nggak nikmatin banget2 petualangan mereka karena bentar2 Sussanah basah dan si Russ menegang🫣🫣
This is a romance made for television. Russ Donovan is the star of a show called Wild Man, where he goes out in the wild and does dangerous things. He’s living! And surviving! Susannah Stone is a Martha Stewart-in-the-making, only more relatable, because she’s not always perfect. She’s just gotten through a divorce and has a 14-month-old, and she doesn’t have time for anything.
Enter the network. Their boss tells them to combine their shows for a ratings bump…or else. Neither one is interested; Russ doesn’t want to waste his time on a pink princess, and Susannah has a kid and doesn’t have time, remember? But there’s some subtle bribery going on, and soon enough, Susannah’s preparing to snowshoe up a mountain with Russ.
Susannah is insecure about a lot of things. Her post-baby body, for one, and her bedroom skills, for another. Her ex-husband really did a number on her self esteem. The problem is, Russ looks a lot like her ex. So she’s attracted to him, but figures he’s the worst thing ever, and she keeps her distance.
Russ is driven by the memory of his dead brother. He’s secure in his survival skills, but he’s really, really distracted by the sight of Susannah in her snow pants. He even points out the bulge in his pants to the cameraman. When they share a tent for the night (Russ and Susannah, not Russ and the cameraman), he doesn’t hide his attraction. Susannah doesn’t believe him for a second, of course, but she does let Russ try to convince her that she’s attractive and sexually responsive.
They share a sleeping bag for two nights, and it must be the world’s biggest sleeping bag because, dude. The hardest part about sleeping in a sleeping bag is the size, because you can’t bend your knees and you can barely roll over. (The second-hardest part about sleeping in a sleeping bag is the sound of the nylon fabric rubbing against the sleeping pad as you try to roll over without falling off the pad. The third-hardest part is everything else. Everything is the worst in a sleeping bag.) Somehow Russ and Susannah get up to some kissing and groping without cutting off their circulation or elbowing each other in the face.
The flip side of the show has Russ cooking dinner at Susannah’s house, but, come on. How hard is that? I wish she’d had him fold a fitted sheet. Russ did did get to play with the plot moppet — I mean Susannah’s son — and change a diaper, but he wasn’t nearly as challenged as Susannah was.
This is a romance novel, not an actual tv show. I had to remind myself of that several times, mainly when Russ was hanging out at Susannah’s house. Who films in their actual house? And lets strangers bond with their actual child on camera? And why didn’t anyone tell Susannah to hand Russ a fitted sheet?
Overall, I’d say this was a cute, occasionally spicy book. Russ seemed to choose Susannah because his manly bits were always on alert around her. He had other thoughts about her, but mostly he thought with his other head. Susannah chose Russ because he boosted her self esteem and liked her kid and was good in bed. What’s not to like about that? Their romance was quick, condensed into the filming of a few tv shows, but the ending hit some emotional spots and I actually believed it.
When their mutual producer suggests that "Wild Man" survivalist Russ Donovan and "At Home" domestic diva Susannah Stone collaborate on a crossover series, neither one of them are enthused by the idea. As they spend more time together, sparks fly. But can man dedicated to flying around the globe have a relationship with a woman dedicated to building a home with her infant son?
This book is sexy, sparky fun. The characters antagonize each other in the best way, so you know they're going to be explosive once they finally get each other into bed. Plus, there's emotional depth, with Susannah's parenting struggles and post-divorce trauma, and Russ's guilt over his brother's death. This is a great book and I can't wait to read more by this author.
This book ended up being a pleasant surprise. It wasn't an earth-shattering, life-changing read, but it was a cute little story that I ended up liking more than I thought I would.
The MCs are TV hosts that get forced by their station to team up for some joint episodes. During the first one, Donovan takes Susie hiking for two days. Overnight in the tent, they act on their attractions to each other, with no plans to continue when they return to the "real world". Unfortunately, some of their personal conversations get leaked, and they have to fake a relationship via socialmedia. Obviously, they both secretly really want the relationship to continue.
The book is full of typical romance clichés, but there are some gems in it. Honestly, my favorite part of the book is when Susie's ex comes over and they discuss why their relationship ended. In the scene, Susie makes him a cup of coffee and then complains when he doesn't say 'thank you'. He responds that he didn't ask for the coffee, and they go on to discuss how she never listened to what he wanted in the relationship. I really love how this was added. So many romances fall back on ex-bashing to make the hero more likeable (and up until this point, there was actually a lot of ex-bashing in this book, too), but this scene made everything feel more real because it usually isn't one person's fault that a relationship ends.
However, besides the ridiculous 'I Love You's at the end of the book after the MCs have only spent like 5 days together total, the thing that really spoiled this for a higher rating from me was the stupid I-must-be-bad-in-bed-and-hate-sex-because-my-ex-and-I-were-not-compatible troupe. That shit barely works in a regency novel where the women are married off shortly after puberty and no one but prostitutes seem able to talk about sex. In a contemporary novel, where women have access to the Internet and girlfriends to talk to...
This opposites attract contemporary romance is the story of Russ and Susie, two TV personalities who have vastly different shows. Russ headlines an outdoor wilderness adventure program, while Susie has a lifestyle show dealing with all things domestic. Ostensibly to improve Susie's show ratings, their boss has decided to have each of them crossover to the other's program. Despite their differences in approaches to life, there is an instant chemistry between them that is only heightened by their close quarters. But can single mother Susie convince Russ that home is where the heart is?
I loved this story! Russ and Susie were both really fun, down to earth characters. Russ is the charming playboy, ready to take on any dare and thriving in his adventurous life - or so it seems on the surface. When confronted with Susie and her infant son, domesticated life extraordinaire, he finds himself inexplicably drawn to the idea of hearth and home, a scary proposition for him when all he's ever wanted was to push himself higher and farther in memory of his deceased brother. Susie is trying to balance her career and single motherhood after having been through a failed marriage. I really liked how her character became more adventurous and self confident as the story progressed and she was put into situations she would never have picked for herself. Equally I enjoyed how Russ dealt with things that were outside of his element, putting on his game face and making the best of situations. The sexual tension between them is high from the beginning of the story, leading to several steamy love scenes as they fight their attraction to each other. There were a lot of funny and entertaining scenes in this story as well as some emotional moments as Russ comes to grips with what he wants for his life and Susie goes after what she wants too. 5 stars for this delightful read!

Both Russ Donovan and Susannah Stone are big TV personalities who have been told by their TV station that they are being thrown together to make a new programme where each will be put in the others environment to see how they cope. Neither expect much from the other, however the chemistry between them sizzles.
Susannah is also a mum to a toddler and has come out of a marriage feeling very low about herself, but refuses to let the world see her as anything other than a survivor. She makes the best out of everything, even if it means pushing her physical boundaries a little too far.
Susannah does not want to seem weak and Russ's complete opinion about her changes over the weekend, as does Susannah's about Russ.
The media attention gets in the way and they spend time apart until the next segment has to be filmed in her home, where Susannah tries him in the domesticated setting. Russ shows a soft sweet side to himself along with some passion.
With a past that he can't let go of, Russ bails only to find that Susannah and her son occupy his mind constantly until he can no longer stand being apart any longer.
A sweet yet fast read with a few naughty sections to ramp up the heat.
I don't even know where to start with this review...yes, I do. Buy this book! Seriously sexy, with a fantastic storyline and really dynamic characters! I'm such a fan of Amanda Usen's storytelling. I found myself laughing out loud several times, but was also moved to tears by this emotional romance. The dialogue between Susannah and Donovan was so genuine. Equal parts candid, flirty, and amusing. As for the seductive chemisty between this couple-it was off the charts HOT! Definitely a story to read if you need to warm up this winter. To say that Donovan is smolderingly sexy, just doesn't do the character justice. Some of my favorite lines: "I've got hard covered, sweetheart. I like soft." "Because you seem to have some serious misapprehensions about what men find attractive, and I dare you to let me set you straight."
Yeah...sexy just doesn't cover it at all. I dare you to read this book and not love it!
Russ Donovan and Susannah Stone made quite the interesting couple once they managed to hook up and be civilized and refrained from killing one another. Russ was a reality TV survivalist and the son from a wealthy family who was fighting with his demons since the loss of someone very close to him. Susannah was an up and coming reality TV star herself, but she was more at home in the kitchen than on a mountain. They each had reservations about the other. Each had their own secrets and support systems. Russ’s family would also tell him he’s an idiot, when the circumstances call for it and Berman to. He just might deserve his own story to, devious sly devil that he is. And she had her adorable son Billy and a few people to help her out and on the rare occasion would get to see her ex. It was a fast read and a good story with very likeable characters. So if you get a chance to pick up a copy, you won’t be disappointed.
I love this author and I definitely loved this book! It's a great opposites attract story and I was thoroughly entertained by it.
When two reality TV show stars are paired up for a new show neither can say no to, the hilarity begins and the sparks fly. Total opposites, Russ and Susannah are out to prove the other can't cut it when put to the test.
Great story concept and one you definitely don't want to miss, I highly recommend it.
This was really cute. Gotta love opposites attract. If I'm being honest, her lack of self esteem started to bug me, but at the same time, I understand where it came from. And I also got his need to constantly be on the move. I loved that neither one of them backed down from a challenge and they both readily recognized when the other was doing well outside their respective elements. Overall cute story.
I was delighted with Impulse Control, a quick reading enemies to lovers novel. I purchased Impulse Control not having read any previous Amanda Usen novels because the premise of this story interested me. I love action adventure romances and settings where the 2 main characters are “lost in the wilderness and must join forces to survive.”
Russ Donovan, MMC is a retired military and special forces man who fell into a television career and notoriety through a program known as In the Wild. In the Wild features Russ in situations where he takes on nature full throttle - climbing mountains, running raging rapids, swimming/diving with sharks, exploring places not seen previously - each adventure recorded with a film crew and a network’s backing. Continuous success allows Russ to create his own production company and he fine-tunes his focused and determined drive filming and experiencing the challenges nature offers. In Impulse Control, the producer and family friend who offered Russ his first opportunity in television convinces him to complete a short 2-segment project titled At Home in the Wild with the networks currently highest rating television host and single-mom Susannah Stone, FMC. Susannah is popular for her program aptly named At Home which is a comfortable home cooking and DIY production showing viewers anyone can be successful in the home. In At Home In the Wild, Russ and Susannah each take a turn introducing the other the to the pitfalls and hidden joys of their specialty allowing space for both to examine past mistakes in their lives, learn from them, and move forward.
I found Impulse Control a delightful read. This wasn’t a gritty, nail biting, death-defying thriller but rather an enjoyable sweet story with a sexy hero and a strong woman both successful in their fields, scarred a bit by their pasts wondering if life might offer something more. The action-adventure element in Impulse Control wasn’t predominant but rather woven around Russ’s personality. I recommend Impulse Control to readers who enjoy quick reading contemporary romances with strong, mature (behavior more than age) characters; the enemies to lovers trope; outdoor settings or cooking in their novels; and/or HEAs. There is a toddler in this story for those who also love babies. Impulse Control is a standalone novel in a series of books by 12 different authors. After finishing Impulse Control I scrolled through the other titles and picked up one of the others as well.
Reader Cautions - not a Clean read Violence - none. Profanity - yes. Occasional. Not frequent. Sexual situations - yes. Sexual banter and on-scene sexual intimacy develops in the latter half of this novel. I found it a natural development of their attraction toward each other, but it does cover a chapter and more. (Perhaps a 3.5 on a Sweet to Very Steamy 0 to 5 scale). Not recommended for young readers or those who would be offended by the aforementioned.
Apakah Donovan cocok sbg sparring partner kencan Susie sblm melangkah bersama pria yg tepat?
It's so cute membayangkan pria kekar bertato mengganti popok bayi.
Sekian dulu reviewnya.
Reading this reminds me why I love Amanda Usen so much. What a great read, filled with snappy dialogue, the perfect tension between these two characters and the perfect amount of sizzle! Checks all the boxes. When two TV reality show stars are called in to the network offices for a meeting, they're about to get the shock of their totally opposite lives. Russ Donovan is the Wild Man, known for his risky adventures and absolute screen appeal, Susannah Stone is a recently divorced mother to a 14 month old with a Martha Stewart-is type theme, but she really appeals to the masses of stay at home Moms. Russ is a driven risk taker, Susie as he calls her, is a planner and keeps her life as tidy and tight as possible. The networks have decided for ratings of both shows to pair the two up, Susie out in the wilds with Russ and Russ at home with Susannah. Neither are happy, but with the threats hanging over their heads decide to make a go of it. Both decide to make the other a little miserable in their own environments. Each make assumptions about the other. The chemistry was superb. As the story unfolds they start to let their guard down with each other. Who needs a campfire with all the heat coming from their tent! Susie's ex really did a job on her self esteem, insecure about her body image along with multitude of other things, Russ does wonders for her confidence. He opens up about why he has chosen this lifestyle after losing his brother. When the arena's switch and Susie has Russ in her home with her teething 14 month old we see a different side of Russ, the more domestic side. Susie still plots to trip him up now and then, but he's a quick learner. He also has a knack with that sweet little toddler. Russ vows to never settle down, can these two get to the end of this collective show challenge and mesh their personal lives? Read this book, great plot, stellar writing and witty dialogue with some smoking steam make this book a winner and an easy 5 stars from me. *this is book one in the Zodiac series, all stand alone, written by different authors. I highly recommend this book and the whole series.
arc from Entangled publishing for an honest review.
The easiest way to describe this book is Bear Grylls and Martha Stewart collaborating and then falling in love. I liked that Susannah pushed herself on the snow hike, and Russ took her safety seriously. The build up of the romance was well written and I liked them together. The second half took a bit of a dip, with them both getting stuck in their own heads about their relationship. I felt like Russ' motivation for going on adventures was a bit much, but I suppose it's to give him depth rather than being a random thrill seeker. It was a nice, simple read, pleasantly surprised with how entertaining I found it. I'm not interested in reading further in the series. It's a compilation series of different authors, if I stumble onto one I like the sound of sure. But it doesn't feel necessary to read through it like an actual series.
I did like the concept. I’m starting to like reality tv shows/contests.
Russ Donovan is a great Wild Man who was able to find his Wild Woman - quite hot in fact, had me wishing for my own Wild Man lol.
Absolutely loved Billy with all my heart!!
With time I could see Sussanah and Russ being great couple, but I deem to class them as a good one for now, as I felt I didn’t have another time to connect with each of them like I would have wanted to.
I felt the book was pretty short (not surprising as it is meant to be like 295 words) the part between the hero and the heroine falling out and then making up was too quick for me. And the epilogue I would have liked further into the future, not just one month inside if their relationship.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Not bad for a romance story but cliche and predictable What I like was the surviving skills at the mountain. Ms. Usen surely did the research or experienced in the field herself What I don't like was the instant unbelievable attraction. How I wish there wasn't a sentence at the end that Bergman tried to matchmake Russ and Susannah by starring them in a show together. Did Bergman have some kind of hunch that the two opposite person would be right for each other? I couldn't help but rolled my eyes by the absurdity of that
Loved the adventure story, the romance, the banter between the characters, all of it! There were definitely some swoonworthy moments. And the changing perspectives between the male and female protagonists made it extremely entertaining. There was enough research done to make the story believable and interesting. Plus, I didn't spot hardly any spelling/grammar mistakes! I'm new to this author but now I'm definitely a fan.
Ide ceritanya bagus.
I've been leaving a lot of books unfinished lately. I'm finding myself getting to the 50% mark and realizing I don't care about the characters - not this book. Susannah and Russ were so loveable, I couldn't stop reading until I made sure they got the ending they deserved.
This book had me hooked all the way through it. Loved the characters even those with little parts. Loved the teasing and the strong feelings. Will look for more stories like this.
You know the conclusion early on but reading how that get there is fun. You get to find out what drives them and why they are like they are . Each surprised the other and that the fun part of the story. You will enjoy this book
2.5 stars. It wasn’t bad. I’ve definitely read worse but I highly recommend the audible version over the text as the paragraphs are super (Charles dickens) long. Rivals to lovers/insta love. Forced proximity. Single parent. Sweet love scenes.
It is not often that I sit down to write a review with a tear stained face and a happy heart. But after just having finished Amanda Usen's Impulse Control, I am more than happy to report that this wonderfully hopeful and heartfelt read has indeed transformed me into quite the blubbering mess.
The reason?
It's all in the story.
Susannah Stone is a women who seems to have it all.
1. A top rated how-to show that rivals Martha Stewart.
2. A beautiful home.
3. Financial security.
4. Great friends.
5. Beauty
6. An awesome 14-month old son.
7. Stellar intelligence.
But...
All Susannah can see is:
1. The stretchmarks that have transformed her body into a road map of motherhood.
2. The raised contours of the 6-inch Cesarean Section scar that has forever changed the landscape of her once pristine bikini line.
3. The "still there" baby weight that makes her just a little too soft in places.
4. The time that her demanding work schedule takes way from her son.
5. The fact that she was never, and will never be the woman that her now ex-husband wants.
6. Her fear of life, love, taking risks, and being hurt.
Then she meets him.
Russ "The Wild Man" Donavon, the star of an Emmy-award winning adventure show, world traveler extraordinaire, and a man who lives a life seemingly predicated upon chasing that next big risk.
When these two are thrown together for a show that combines his love for outdoor adventure with her domestic savvy; the on-camera chemistry is ratings gold. What neither she nor he could have ever anticipated however, is that the lingering glances, furtive touches, and snarky banter that they share are all just a precursor to a much deeper and more primal bond.
Susannah's story is the story of many single mothers, (myself included) who have survived relationships that have left them a little worse for wear, and very wary of matters of love and sex. That is not to say that she is not desirous of said entanglements; she is just not sure that she still has "the right stuff" for the job.
In other words she can't see the forest for the trees. So when someone like Russ, who is wild, seemingly carefree, and oh soo HAWT comes along and wants her... First instinct...Danger Will Robinson!
The magic of this story is that Russ is not trying to change or save Susannah. Truth be told, he is the one in need of the S.O.S flares and life raft. Instead, he is trying to get her to see herself for the beautiful, resilient, honest, loyal, resourceful, caring, and supremely SEXY "wild woman" that she is. Because it is only after she begins to love herself that she can even hope to come into the fullness of what true and untamed love really means.
As if things couldn't get any better for readers...we get a peek inside the psyche of the man himself! That's right! This tale comes equipped with a look at things from Russ's POV! For a man who claims to be "all about the action" his thoughts are proof that still waters run mighty deep.
If you are looking for a story that will stoke the embers of your passion, inspire you to be your best you, make you smile from ear to ear, and make you proud to be a phenomenal woman. Look no further than Impulse Control.
