Nice to see more stories with Rogue Squadron. RIP Herian and Dllr. Interesting that Plourr is a princess. Hope she and her husband will have a good life together.

Can't wait to read more Star Wars Omnibus novels!!!!

3.5 stars, bumped up because X-Wings. The stories are pretty good, slightly better than the first volume. There's only one established character that shows up with any regularity, so would it kill the artists to have a vague idea of what Denis Lawson looks like? The first story was entirely forgettable, basically a summary of Wedge's career as seen in the movies. The writer seemed to be confused as to whether he was writing about Rogue or Red Squadron, as they get called both.

The story could be hard to follow. Some of it got a little out there too. Art was good, the characters were likeable. I honestly wish we had seen more pilots die in flight. Through the comics and books we've seen numerous pilots die, but almost none in the dangerous combat zones that were stressed in book 1 (rogue squadron)

Dark Horse Comics - Star Wars: X-Wing Rogue Squadron issues #9-20. Great collection with some excellent stories. Lots of action combined with great writing, perfect for the comic book medium.

2 of these Rogue Squadron collections later and I can’t figure out why they are so immensely popular and loved.

On one hand, I guess there’s a nostalgia factor at play here, since this series came out in the mid 90’s, smack dab in the huge Star Wars resurgence of the era, but even then, I can’t see that as justification for such a overly dull and boring series of stories.

Much like the first volume, there’s really nothing in this second volume that stands out or brings anything worth mentioning to the overall Star Wars story. Instead, there’s a bunch of badly drawn issues with badly scripted stories that are just flat out boring at the best of times. Even when anything remotely exciting happens, it’s conclusion is lackluster and leaves the reader without any desire for more. That, and an over abundance of new characters constantly cycling through the ranks of Rogue Squadron, making for little to no continuity.

There’s a ton of better Star Wars comics out there so unless you grew up reading these and want a trip down memory lane (or just want to torture yourself with some pretty lame stories) I suggest you skip these and pick something else...

Now that’s much better.

This omnibus chronicles Rogue Squadron and their visit to the planets of Tatooine to Ryloth, Eiattu, and Malrev 4.

I’ll be reviewing them individually.

Tatooine to Ryloth: introduces us to Firith Olan, Koh’shak and a resurrected Bib Fortuna. There is also the tease of Sixtus Quin allying with Elscol Loro in the near future X-wing title, Bacta War here. Steady storytelling, and quite integral if reading the fourth book.

Eiattu: Breathtaking and filled with twists. It’s sad to see Plourr leave the Squadron, but her being royalty is a good enough twist on its own.

Malrev: The second brush of death for the Rogues, losing Dllr Nep and Herian I’ngre. I like how their sacrifice played out, but the villains are quite lackluster and very cliche.

Overall, not bad of a book. 4/5

I'm starting to get the groove of these collections. The artwork still isn't the greatest, but it's not a hindrance to the story, so I'm a little more accepting of it. Plus, I actually had a moment where I felt something for the characters at the end of the story. That's a big plus when it comes to most of the EU material.

The first arc in this collection was just okay... I don't really like what they're doing with Winter/Targeter compared to how she seems in the novels. I mostly warmed up to Plourr's arc by the end of it. I think the last arc was the strongest.

I somehow enjoyed this much more than volume 1. I like how Wedge’s place in all this is called into question. And you can really feel the impact of Biggs’ sacrifice. There’s also something here similar to Bib Fortuna’s canon trajectory that I was not expecting.

Nice assembly of New Republic stories from the era of Legends!

I enjoyed the art and the action. I can only hope that new Canon will continue to mine the Legends for stories.

I have this on the Dark Horse app, which doesn't have the page numbers in it, so I'll be going off the app # if cite anything.

What I liked about all of the comics in this Omnibus was that at each beginning, when the pilots were introduced with a 'face shot', the names were given.

X-Wing Rogue Squadron Special
This is a short snippet of Wedge's background and his influence in Rogue Squadron and the movies.

Battleground: Tatooine
There was quite a bit of snark here, especially at the start. At first, I really enjoyed it, but then it got weird. The Rogues meet up with Huff Darklighter and they go on a mission to find treasure - a globe of some type. It was just odd. Then Bib Fortuna may or may not have taken over a body. Like I said, strange.

The art was pretty decent, especially with the explosions and the Imperial squadron on page 72.

“‘No contest, captain! I plead temporary insanity and beg the lady’s forgiveness.’
‘Apology accepted, Lieutenant—but what makes you think your insanity is
temporary?’”
– page 28 (DH App); Tycho & Wedge

The Warrior Princess
This was written by Stackpole (yay!) but it's quite wordy. The art was detailed though.

The Rogues go to Eiattu, where it's revealed that Plourr is the Princess. I really enjoyed when she pointed out that princesses have been fighting the Empire before she and the Rogues ever did. Oh yes, she's strong mentally & physically. Then she iscovers that her brother Harran is alive, but the entire situation is fishy. Plourr has a deep [family] secret about her brother.

Her former betrothed and her brother and really a lot of the noble men look very similar. I was having trouble figuring out who the men were when there was a scene change that wasn't very obvious to me.

Moff Leonia Tavira is quite sneaky, and an interesting antagonist.

I was also confused at the end when everyone believed Plourr about the impostor. There wasn't anything that jumped out that really showed that, IMO.

The ending also made me laugh in disbelief. Wedge leaves an X-Wing on Eiattu with Plourr. In the the novels, I remember there not being the money (or resources in general) to leave a vehicle, unless a person owned it before. And even then, Corran Horn had trouble maintaining his.

Requiem for a Rogue
Another one written by Stackpole, and the art is amazing. SPECTACULAR! The two-page spread at the beginning with the Rogues having a brief bio (homeworlds) above the X-Wing scene was breathtaking. All of the art and the colours are great. And, unlike TWP, it's less wordy.

The Rogues head to Malrev IV to rescue a downed cruise liner. While they're there, they have some very strange dreams. Wedge is fortunate enough to not be influenced much by the Force, but the others (like Dllr) are not so lucky.

The dancing Bothan females scene is bonkers. Then the boys act super enamored and behaviors change. The Dark presence makes things a bit more clear, but it's still disturbing how overly sexualized this becomes.

The ending is quite bittersweet. Plourr comes to their aid (with her hair growing in, it looks a bit odd though better than bald) and sacrifices are made to break the Sith's hold. Dllr and his abilities really come through.

The X-Wing spread on 192 is BEAUTIFUL. It feels as if the X-Wings are coming out of the page.

x-wing rogue squadron special

What a great start this shows just how humble Luke Skywalker is and helps me to understand why rogue squadron has been so successful. This start gets a 5.0 out of 5.0

Battle Ground Tatooine

This was a decent read but I got lost several times because there is so much going on. The x-wing dog fighting was pretty good and let's not forget Bib Fortuna. To be honest I would have to read this story over to get a better understanding. I rate this story 3.8 out of 5.0

The Warrior Princess

The title says it all plourr found has rediscovered she is a princess and goes back to fight for her world. With many twist and turn this has a feel of 17th century England. Great storyline with just enough action. my overall rating for this story is 4.7 out of 5.0

Requiem for a Rogue

I really enjoyed this read and would read it again in a microsecond. This last story was really good depiction of why the sith and those who represent the darkside constantly fail in their pursuit power. I never liked to see any rebels fall to this evil but this was action packed. Great storyline! I give this story a 5.0 out of 5.0

I love rogue squadron and what they represent in the star wars universe great read for any fan.

The second collection of X-Wing, this consists of the following stories:

1) X-Wing Rogue Squadron Special (basically a bit about Wedge's background and his influence on Rogue Squadron)

2) Battleground: Tatooine

3) The Warrior Princess

4) Requiem for a Rogue

Personally, however, none of the stories really seemed to hold my attention all that much: as a matter of taste, I think I still prefer a printed novel over a comic novel

The second volume of Rogue Squadron contains three stories, "Battleground: Tatooine", "Warrior Princess", and "Requiem for a Rogue". Nothing overly fantastic, but all entertaining. Wedge Antilles continues to be a great character and the supporting cast is enjoyable too.

Much better collection than Volume 1. The weakest is the second but still very good. The second adventure gets mired in politics of the planet, but stays interesting. The last story is the best of the bunch.

My major complaint about this graphic novel is that it was short. The stories were all right, but were mostly very predictable.

The heroic action of X-Wing Rogue squadron did not end after battle of Endor, but continued as the remains of the Empire simply refused to give up and continued to fight.
