Rick "Ricochet" Brennan served eight years as an elite Marine special ops Force Recon soldier. After an injury, and the terrible memories from that night, he retires and goes to work for his former Command Officer, Howard "Mack" McEvoy, at his training center in Atlanta.
Sanctum MMA appears on the surface to be a normal gym, training elite fighters to be the best. Except each trainer, hand-picked by Mack, possesses a special background that allows Mack to run one of the best-kept secrets in the country.
When twenty-three year old Quinn Wallace finally escapes her abusive husband, she turns to her father’s old Marine Corps buddy, Mack, for help. Broken and skittish, Quinn finds herself surrounded by large, intimidating men— men who could easily overpower her. She avoids them the best she can, but when Rick turns out to be more than just a rough fighter with bruised knuckles, she finds herself wondering if she can allow herself to trust again.
Ricochet is a full-length novel to be released as three parts.
Heather C. Leigh is the author of the Amazon best selling Famous series. She likes to write about the 'dark' side of fame. The part that the public doesn't get to see, how difficult it is to live in a fishbowl and how that affects relationships.
Heather was born and raised in New England and after spending 15 years in Atlanta, GA, currently lives north of Houston, TX with her husband, 2 kids, and French Bulldog, Shelby.
Heather loves the Red Sox, the Patriots, and anything chocolate (but not white chocolate, everyone knows it's not real chocolate so it doesn't count) and has left explicit instructions in her will to have her ashes snuck into Fenway Park and sneakily sprinkled all over while her family enjoys beer, hot dogs, and a wicked good time.
My favorite authors are Dan Wells, Ken Follett, and Stephen King.
Ricochet is a full-length novel to be released as three parts. All parts are live and the reading order is as follows:
Everything comes to the surface in this third and final part of RICOCHET. Secrets are uncovered and true feelings are revealed. Readers will enjoy the sweet nature of the heroine and the sexy, playboy hero, and bask in the feeling of goodness outwitting evil.
I felt some predictability in the action but in a sense, I sometimes quite like that in my reading matter.... thinking something and then it happening can be quite satisfying. I wish the author had taken more risks with her plot and pushed it a little darker because that would've driven my emotions higher and I would've loved that.
Overall this novel is nicely written with lovely thoughts and sentiments, there’s nothing not to like about this sweet and romantic love story, with likable characters.
Extraction Point is NOW LIVE and only $0.99 * Amazon US *Amazon UK * Please check the price before purchasing.
So this picked up where Ricochet: Friendly Fire ended, as it should. And it’s a fitting end to Quinn and Rick’s story…
After reading part of Heather’s acknowledgment at the end about the things she did differently about this whole story, it made me realize that those are the things that I did think myself wouldn’t have worked for me either as a reader but it totally did! The dual POVs done 3rd-person style to the breaking up the story in 3 parts to the cliffie endings… I actually enjoyed them all.
I also enjoyed all the action ala Tom Clancy movies. And I really enjoyed the suspense parts, constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop. At one point, I kept thinking for those boys to just nail the SOB. Seriously!
This time, I was cheering for Quinn the whole time, just wanting her to stay strong and survive. And Rick, oh poor Rick. I think his heart just took a real beating first dealing with all the new emotions and then being put thru the wringer worrying about Quinn the whole time. How can I not love the dude!
I do wish that some scenes were given an additional line or 2 to maintain the pacing. It almost felt like Heather ran out of space to really round out the emotion that a scene was trying to convey. Just my thought, that’s all…
Over all, I’m really happy that I got a chance to read this. For a first Heather read for me, I’m quite pleased with it all. Now, I wonder if those other MMA boys are getting their own story… hmmm…
All these cliffies would have given me whiplash, but I loved that I was bestowed with both the 2nd and 3rd instalment. So it wasn't much of a whiplash at all. So book 2 was my least favourite in this series. Book 3 gave me some redemption over my feelings for book 2.
Quinn and Rick have repaired their relationship, yet Quinn still can not fully succumb to her emotions and let Rick in. She refuses to reveal her past and the truth of her husband. She moves forward with a divorce. After a passionate night, their friendship has been repaired and they are now in a relationship. Leaving Rick to head to her lawyer's office, Quinn is kidnapped by her psycho husband.
Rick's emotions are all over the place. He can't believe he let Quinn leave, even though she needed to run an errand, his protective instincts are on high alert.
Finding out that Quinn is married, and that she has been abused for that last year and a half, sends Rick into a vicious frenzy. Even more so, she has been kidnapped and sixteen hours has passed and Rick and his team are no closer to finding her. Rick's mental and emotional fortitude is shot to hell and he can not contain the rage within him. His military buddies are feeling the aftermath of his impatience over not having any information pertaining to Quinn's whereabouts. Along with his own feelings- he didn't protect her, he let her down.
Captured and beaten, Quinn has been handcuffed to her childhood bed, while her husband, Travis taunts her. Hidden in plain sight, this sick, abusive and sadistic man, is even crazier than before. Quinn escaped months ago and filing for divorce was her last straw at moving on and getting away. Choosing to have a life she always wanted over the life she was given. Travis used this as an opportunity to capture Quinn. For months she eluded him. Finally getting her back, he can torture and punish her for her insolence.
Looking at Travis, Quinn knew she did some physical damage to his handsome face when she escaped, but staring into the eyes of a monster, even her wildest fantasies could not dream up the man in front of her now.
Quinn found the strength those many months ago and fought for her survival and escaped. Refusing to be Annie Hardy any longer.
Unwilling faced with the same situation those months ago, Quinn is stronger than ever and she refuses to go down without a fight. Quinn knows that she never mentioned her past to Rick, and by the time anyone figures out what happened, she may be gone already. But that doesn't mean she is going to be the weak submissive Annie. She is a fighter.
“Don’t.
Call.
Me.
Annie.”
I’m not broken yet, you asshole. You may have me, but you don’t own me
This was a great conclusion to the Ricochet series and I am looking forward to reading more from Heather C. Leigh. The family that Mack created among these men was extraordinary, along with being the new father figure to Quinn. Mack played an exceptional role. Quinn's character remained strong and resilient in her quest to overcome her past. Rick remained true to himself, by being the overbearing, cocky alpha male he is.
*ARC provided by Love Between the Sheets on behalf of the author for an honest review* Thanks!!
Richochet: Extraction Point is the third and final book in the Ricochet Series. This book had my heart racing, my stomach rolling, and my fear for Quinn escalating. The abuse she endured during her marriage was bad but nothing compared to what is in store for her now since she defied her husband. The one thing she has going for her now is her new family at Sanctum MMA Gym and Rick Ricochet Brennan’s love. Even though she has not revealed her secrets to these men and her lover, these men are resourceful enough to find her and rescue her.
Rick is out of his mind with Quinn missing. He never told her how he felt about her. He never really made her believe she was his. He is going to rectify that and claim his woman.
When they finally rescue Quinn she begs Rick to let it go and not seek retribution. Can he do that?
Like the old saying goes…what goes around comes around… karma can be your friend or your worst enemy. It looks like Karma smiled on Rick and Quinn and shook her fist at their enemies.
I loved this final book in the series. It was intense and gave the reader a better insight into the members of the exclusive Sanctum MMA gym. These men are fighters…these men are warriors.
I hope they all get their own mini series or books.
Ricochet- Extraction Point is the third and final book in this series and boy oh boy did it give you a thrill. I would rate this book a 4 stars and definitely recommend the whole series to others. These are not standalone books they do need to be read in order-- Locked & Loaded, Friendly Fire, and then Extraction Point. This will be a short and sweet review because I don't want to give away any teasers.. so if you want a book that is full of action and intense romance between Rick and Quinn you need to pick up this series. I was so happy with the ending but it definitely still left me wanting more. Rick has a way with words and actions that will melt your panties and make you swoon big time. There is some heartache in this series too but it help build the story to what it is and I am grateful to read such a wonderful story. Hopefully if you are reading this review you have read the other books that have both ended in pretty intense cliff hangers so to finally get an ending for these 2 was simply amazing. Thanks for a great ride and giving us Rick Aka Ricochet and I will be looking out for more from this author in the near future, I have become a huge fan! Get to one-clicking Divas you will not be disappointed!
I received a copy to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review. This one picks up where book2 ended. Quinn has been kidnapped by Travis and has beaten her so bad. She has one eye swollen shut and the other is almost closed and she hurts all over. While Rick is ready to go after her, he doesn't know where to look. He needs the help of his military friends at the gym. With Mack in charge as always, then for a plan and start searching. When they find them Rick is ready to go but Mack has to calm him down. When they get to her, Quinn is in bad shape. She has to spend a week in the hospital. While the other members of the team are searching for him, Rick just wants him gone for good. Will he try to kidnap Quinn again? Can Rick protect her? This is a great story and the ending is perfect. Can't wait to read more from this author.

This is the final novella in the trilogy. You do need to read Locked and Loaded, and Friendly Fire first - or it will be deeply confusing!
Overall this trilogy provides a really good read. It combines sexy and sweet, with hot and dangerous. The danger here is totally unforeseen for Rick, yet sadly all too familiar to Quinn. The build up from both an MMA ability and also ex-Marine perspective is great, as they must be able to deal with the situation ... but we are made to suffer just about long enough! Amazing the feelings that surface when push comes to shove.
Load your Kindle with all three and have a fabulous read. I for one am glad that I discovered this author, and will be adding her other series to my tbr list.
This was quite possibly my favorite part of the whole series. Maybe that's cause we get to see them together and happy (and a few HOT HOT HOT scenes).
As the conclusion, I can't say I was happy with how calmly it all came around. I wanted to see Rick get his hands on that turd of an ex of hers, but all in all it ended well and it was well played.
This part was hard for me because I didn't like seeing Quinn hurt (mentally, not physically like the other parts)... I completely understood her turmoil and her internal debates though. I felt so bad for Rick, but loved that he did his best to be there for her in any way she needed.
I can say that this is definitely an author I would read again in an instant.. Sucked me in and left me happy. Beautiful job Ms. Leigh.
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
First off, again, I thank Between the Sheets promotions for providing me with an ARC of this installment of the Ricochet series. Secondly, Holy Sweat Balls Batman… (rapidly blinks) I think I am in love. This story has so many emotions, twists and turns that I not only have a book hangover but the best kind of whiplash you can imagine. I think my heart is still racing. Gah. It was really good.
***small spoiler alert***
A couple of weeks after Quinn’s released from the hospital -after her ordeal with that douchebag cockhead of a soon-to-be ex-husband of hers- she is feeling caged in. Rick has been at her side every waking and sleeping moment since that night they found her. He is going to do any and everything he can to keep her safe. Come hell or high water. Or bullets and rifles but I digress. The search for Travis is growing but the fucker has disappeared. It’s like he just poofed. The problem with this is… the longer they search goes the more freaked out everyone gets. And poor Rick is like a ticking time bomb waiting to go off. He is looking for a fight with anyone he can so that he can work out the tension and pissiness he has building inside him. Just when things seem to be… stuck in a rut… a curve ball is thrown at her. At them all.
Travis shows up at the gym catching Quinn when she is walking back to the front door from her apartment. But since she isn’t playing any attention she is taken by surprise. But then Travis got a surprise when she fought back. And almost got away from him. Thanks to needing to keep busy, Rick was in the command room and spotted the fight on the screen. He grabbed a gun and hauled ass outside. As soon as she spotted him she yelled and Travis -having gotten a good look at the big ass angry man with a gun- he jumped in his car and took off. Ricks focus was on Quinn so Travis got away.
It was after he carried her into the gym and into the boardroom that Mack came in along with everyone else staring at her that Mack let Quinn in on the secret of what they actually did in the gym. The fact that they were all undercover Mercs was a lot to take in at first. it overwhelms her to say the least. I can’t blame her. But like with anything else she gets used to the idea of what is going on and the fact that they would all kill for her is overwhelming as well. When she gets tired of the interrogations, the back and forth of hunting this ass down she needs a new scene… so Rick shows her the control room.. and his closet geek is in love. Once things start to chill again as they search Quinn makes Rick promise to not kill Travis. She can’t love a murderer.. work is one thing but this is just not what she wants.
So that later comes back to bite her in the ass. When Travis surfaces, again, Rick has the kill shot but cantt take it so he gets away again. To say the man gets ten shades of pissed off… well that is a slight -not so good- description. (laughs) Men and their tempers. But something in Rick snaps and it gets to the point that he walks away. And its a week before anyone sees or hears from him again. While he was gone, Tucker -tired of seeing her mope around the gym- brings her to the control room. Letting her put he mad skills to use. When Rick comes back -after spending the week with his brother- he knows that no matter what nothing is worth losing Quinn. He was in the right but still stupid. Ya know, he is a man after all so its a big deal to admit this.
Things do change for them down the road… papers come from Texas… but what happened may shock you. Sure shocked me. But you will have to read to see what that is.
**ARC provided by TSROR Promotions for an honest review** 4.5 Stars! I felt like I was running a marathon!! Review to come.
Final instalment of the Ricochet series! I felt like I was running a marathon! After the cliffhanger in the second book, things get to a level of kind of crazy, with Rick trying to save the woman he loves. All those cliffhangers have given me whiplash and with this third book, I wanted to know how Quinn and Rick’s journey would end. Quinn needed to be rescued, trying to fight to stay alive. Even if the monster of their past was here, seeing how she was treated, tortured was very painful and sometimes a little bit unbearable. Rick was still the alpha, bossy man, over protective of his woman. But when she disappeared, he did everything he could to get her back to him. Time for some revelations and Rick discovered how she went through. His emotions was all over the place. We could felt his despair, knowing that every minutes counted and the more time passed by, the more Quinn could suffer from that situation.
After this stressful experience, Quinn wanted to move on, to be a fighter. Not the woman she used to be, denigrated by her husband, destroyed by his behavior. I loved how she evolved not only mentally but by the choices she made. She found in these men, a team, a family. There was some issue with Rick about how he had to handle the situation with her ex-husband, with Quinn pressuring him.He was kind of conflicted about that situation and how he could be the man she wanted by being himself.
It was a great ending to the Ricochet series, and I can’t wait to read more about this team. Quinn and Rick’s relationship was so many times tested that I wanted them to have their HEA. It was well concluded, Quinn more than ever tougher and finding her own way thanks that new family and Rick alpha male finding his soulmate and perfectly remains true to himself. Great series, Great series, with a level of tension increasing throughout the three parts.
5-STAR MUST READ…RAW HEART-WRENCHING, TEAR JERKING, AND TESTIMONIAL OF THE POWER OF LOVE!
The Ricochet series is three novellas written beautifully to engage the reader through each of the series with twist and turns. Each series begins where the previous one has ended, leaving out no surprises in between. The novellas need to be read in order, so you can capture everything before reading last novella in the series, RICOCHET: EXTRACTION POINT (RICOCHET #3). The previous novellas in the Ricochet series listed below:
RICOCHET: EXTRACTION POINT begins where RICOCHET: FRIENDLY FIRE ended, Quinn in danger more than ever, since she has defined her husband – Travis Hardy.
“I’m not broken yet, you *sshole. You may have me, but you don’t own me.”
Rick “Ricochet” Brennan is furious when he finds out the danger Quinn is now in. Desperate to find her, her new family at the Sanctum MMA Gym is set to find and rescue her from her psychotic husband. With their resources and expertise, they have a new mission - Quinn.
Rick is torturing himself, because he feels he needs to make up for the last few weeks with Quinn for all his mistakes. More now than ever since the team cannot locate her in the past 16 hours, since her disappearance. Rick cannot control the rage he feels for not protecting her, especially when he discovers her secrets about her past and realizes ever minute passing by could be negative outcome for Quinn.
Captured and beaten, Quinn is trying to fight to stay alive hoping for a rescue. Quinn knows she has never mentioned her past to Rick, but only hopes he can figure it out before she dies.
“I am already dead, Quinn thought as her vision wavered, his disfigured face was the last thing she saw before everything went black.”
Author Heather C. Leigh’s series was WONDERFUL! Heather has done an AMAZING job writing an EMOTIONAL MMA/MILITARY LOVE STORY capturing your HEART and SOUL immediately finding yourself unable to put the book down. You will feel a roller coaster of emotions of LOVE, LOST, COMPASSION, SADNESS, ANGER, DISTRUST, FORGIVENESS, and FRIENDSHIP. For a GREAT ACTION PACK ROMANCE, “1-Click”!
RICOCHET: EXTRACTION POINT was also a GREAT ending to the RICOCHET series. I also want more stories in the future with the other characters from the Sanctum MMA Gym.
"I don't give up. Almost a decade in the Marines, dozens of covert operations, and I've never left a man behind or left a mission incomplete."
I rate Heather C. Leigh’s series, RICOCHET – 5 AMAZING STARS!
Hearts open and secrets revealed! This is the final chapter in the Ricochet Series and we start off with Rick in full rage mode over Quinn. His love is shining even brighter his brother's are noticing he can't hide it anymore and his isn't trying to. He wants her back in his arms and away from the monster that haunted her dreams. Quinn is in hell, captured and brought back to the hell she though she had run from. Now all she can do is pray that Rick will find her so that she can tell him exactly how she feel about him. If only she survives being in hell again. This book will give you even more action and suspense than the first 2. Rick is not holding back on her anymore and vows to love and protect her no matter what. Quinn knows how far Rick will go to protect her, but is worried she would not be able to live with the consequences of that line he would be willing to cross. An Explosive book that will have you cringing in anger and jumping for joy with tears glistening in your eyes as Rick and Quinn finally get to a point where they can be in the light together.
Ricochet: Extraction Point starts off exactly where book 2 ends. Rick's protective instincts are on full alert and the entire team is willing and able to do whatever it takes to save Quinn. Rick's body, soul and heart belong to this woman and this is the ultimate extraction. The series is outstanding! I love the writing and the fast paced story that never feels rushed or forced. These characters are all real to me and I'm hoping to see a spin-off of some Rick's hot coworkers! Will Rick put his heart on the line for Quinn? Can he admit to never wanting to let her go? Will Quinn trust Rick with her body and her heart? Will the ultimate sacrifice be the bond that keeps them together?
"How the fuck would he get a boat here from Texas, Tucker?" Rick snapped.
Quinn was mesmerized by Rick's gorgeous body. Every muscle, every roped tendon, every inch of wet skin was perfect…masculine…addictive.
Extraction Point starts right where Friendly Fire ended with Quinn in danger. Rick is usually collected with missions but this is not just a mission...the woman he loves is gone and he has to find her. With the whole team on his side they go full force. She has become like family to them and they will do anything to find her.
Rick is very protective when it comes to Quinn. He will not let anything happen to her and has to make a promise he doesn't want to keep to be with her. Can he throw out his instincts and keep his promise?
I loved this series and I was hooked to this one especially since I wanted to find out what was going to happen next with the douchebag ex and Quinn and Rick's present and future, if there could be one.
Quotes:
I’m not broken yet, you asshole. You may have me, but you don’t own me.
Hope… That damn traitorous bitch. She got me again.
“I never would have pegged you as someone with a geek-fetish.”
Review for Ricochet: Extraction Point (Ricochet #3) by Heather C. Leigh
Review done for Hooked on Books
5 out of 5 stars
Extraction Point is the conclusion to the Ricochet series. Quinn’s ex has come back for her and the team is on the search to find her.
Rick is beside himself. He doesn’t make mistakes on his missions, so he feels guilty that Quinn is in danger. In this installment, we really learn what the team is all about when they go into action.
Quinn should have been honest with Rick from the beginning and she wouldn’t have to worry that no one would find her. Her ex is definitely not letting her go this time.
This book is definitely the best one of the series. There is plenty of action and steamy scenes in this one.
I thoroughly enjoyed this whole series. I loved Rick and Quinn. Even the secondary characters added a lot to the story. I thought the author did a good job writing a story about abuse.
**I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.**
"I don't give up. Almost a decade in the Marines, dozens of covert operations, and I've never left a man behind or left a mission incomplete."
I loved the ride this series took me on. The suspense, the angst, the emotion made for a good read. I think Extraction Point was my favorite of the three. It had the most suspense, the most action. I was sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see what was going to happen to Quinn. The emotion pertrayed by Rick while looking for Quinn was heart breaking and written so well you could almost feel his pain.
Overall very well done. I would recommend to anyone that likes a suspenseful read, with a little love thrown in.
This was a series was one I went thru in only a mater of a couple of days. The books transitioned perfectly into the following book. This is the last book in the series. You must read the first two to know you are knee deep in Rick's hotness.
I can't deny that I do love me some MMA/military guys. Rick takes the cake. Although he was a bit of a manwhore, he will remain a fave of mine. As for Quinn. I felt for her. For her to remain strong and get through that horrendous marriage was amazing. You really felt the depth of how deeply scared her ex left her.
When her past comes and takes her away from Rick, his only thought was Quinn. He turned out to be a stand up man and would love to have a guy like that. Love those endings to a series!
My rating for this book is a 4.6. The series went out with a bang. And that is exactly how to write a great novel.
This is the final book in the Ricochet trilogy so be sure to read the first two parts before starting this one! I loved this series and was so happy to see that there was a HEA in the end. I promise you will not be disappointed with this series and I can only hope that maybe Heather will write some spin off books with the other characters we meet in Ricochet.
This books starts right after Quinn has been taken by her EX and Rick is leading a full on manhunt to get her back. Rick is the perfect Alpha character in my opinion. He is as tough as they come on the outside but once he found the right woman love and softness pour out of him. Him and Quinn together are dynamite and this book will have you on the edge of your seat!
Thanks Wicked Reads for a free book to read and review.
This series was really great! I enjoyed all three parts to this series, and will definitely put this author on my to read list. Quinn and Rick found their common ground and sometimes feelings are all you have to go by. Quinn was kidnapped at the end of the last part and this part was all about the extraction. Loved the use of the military term, and all the covers were pretty hot! This part finished the series and completed the story. I enjoyed Quinn and Ricks story, hope we get stories from the rest of the guys! Overall entertainment for the book is four stars!
What a crazy awesome series! I loved the big burly tough as nails men and their sweetness and protectiveness they have with Quinn.
Quinn was amazing, she saved herself when she knew no one else was going to save her, she created a new life for herself and really grew into this strong self assured woman. I loved the way her and Rick finally found their way.
Rick... He was incredible. Hot alpha & just strong & sexy as all heck.
Yay! A HEA for Quinn and Rick! Travis continues to wreck havoc on Quinn, while the guys at Sanctum try to protect her and find him. A great ending to this series of novellas. I hope Heather Leigh continues with this group of men, because see some stories there. Full review to come.
This is book three in the series so if you haven’t read the other two then you need to do that before you even contemplate starting this one. The whole series is a mass of twists and turns and this is no exception, you need to be au fait with everything and everybody in order to even start to piece this delightful puzzle together. Life is far from normal for Rick and Quinn following the events at the end of the second book. Travis is on the run but that doesn’t stop Rick from trying to move heaven and earth to track his sorry ass down! But like with many traumatic events it continues to take its toll long after the perpetrator has left the scene, and now despite being out of hospital Quinn is feeling like a prize pet one that Rick refuses to let out of his sight, well do you blame him – look what happened last time! Rick is scared stiff that he will lose her and is driving himself crazy not only watching over her but also doing whatever he can to nail Travis. But as time drags on and the ever elusive Travis continues to elude them all, the two of them are finding the strain almost too much to bear. I felt for Rick as he endeavoured to retain the little bit of sanity that he has left, because the whole situation has him fit to kill. I had to say that I thought he was handling the frustration well but when the final piece of the puzzle lands at their door – I was sure that it was going to be enough to tip them both over the edge. But then I should have known that this author had characters made of sterner stuff! So did Travis get his comeuppance – take a guess? But I have to say that when Travis did resurface, I was looking at my screen having to pick my chin up from the table – is he bloody stupid – I mean rocking up at the gym – duh! But Quinn was determined not to do down without a fight and that decision means that Rick had the time to haul ass to her aid. How he managed to not shoot first and ask question later I have no idea but in the melee of the scuffle Travis pulled off the greatest escape since Houdini and yet again slipped from their grasp. He may be a sorry excuse for a human being but dear lord he’s a sneaky bastard! Rick is furious but his main concern is Quinn and the guys can’t continue to keep her in the dark any longer, Mack owes her an explanation and when Rick takes her back into the gym once Travis has disappeared, he decides that it is time to come clean and lays it all on the line for her. Mack explains to her what the guys really do and why. While her reaction initially is what would be expected I have to say she soon worked out that none of these guys was a threat to her, they were her friends and not just because of Rick or her father but because of her, she mattered to each and every one of them and they would do whatever it took to protect her, even if that meant killing for her. That is a heavy sentiment to get your head around but she finally knew that she was where she needed to be, with people who loved her and none more so that Rick. Love colours your judgement and while Quinn has no desire to see Rick locked up for killing the likes of Travis, she knows that given half a chance that is exactly what he will do, so she hopes that she can use the way he feels about her to protect him and what they have, so foolishly she asks him to promise not to kill Travis – silly woman – I’d have given him the green light to hand Travis his ass on a plate, and smiled as he did it!! But what she didn’t know or was yet to get her head around was that Travis was just plain old stupid because this idiot doesn’t know when to stay away and because of his promise Rick doesn’t kill him when he has the chance… damn. So one seriously pee’d off, sexy assed man, pumped up on testosterone and full to the brim with frustration does what anyone in that position would do… he snaps! Knowing that if he stays he could regret so much more than he could ever make right, he removes himself from the whole situation and heads off to hang with his brother. Burying his head in the sand or taking stock, who knows but personally I think he did the right thing because things said in the heat of the moment are often hurtful and can never be unsaid, but after a week he has his head back in the game and he knows that he needs to front up everything he walked away from because Quinn is not an optional extra – she is non-negotiable – and he will NOT lose her! Can she accept that this glorious man is prepared to put himself on the line for her and can they move on with what they have now? Will the spectre of Travis ever disappear or will they both rue the promise both uttered and accepted? Well I could tell you but really I would be doing you a disservice because you will get so much more out of their story when you get to experience it for yourself … oh but what I will say is watch out for news from the lone star state!!!
Military special forces soldiers and MMA fighters are both on my “favorite types of alphas’ list so Ricochet sounded right up my reading alley so to speak! I was definitely glad to be able to read all 3 stories right in a row because cliffhangers make me just a little bit nutty at times, and I was able to read all 3 books fairly quickly.
Rick aka Ricochet and Quinn are both damaged from a physical and emotional perspective. Locked and Loaded opens setting the stage for us with the infliction of their injuries although a bit of time passes before Rick and Quinn actually cross paths. Rick’s nickname originates from the way he ‘ricochets’ from one woman to the next, never going back for a repeat although the reason for his behavior is explained a little way through the story. Quinn has finally managed to escape her abusive husband and has worked her way from Texas back to the Atlanta area where her dad’s best friend Mack owns and operates Sanctum MMA. Although she needs a job and Mack is willing to pay her in cash to allow her to stay off the grid, being around a gym full of fighters is not the most comfortable environment for a victim of domestic violence. Rick turns on the charm as soon as he meets her but soon realizes Quinn is not one of his normal targets and opts to try to help her instead. She fires all of the protective instincts he never realized he had buried deep inside.
Quinn was wary of all men after her treatment at the hands of her ex but she was seemingly well adjusted when it came to Rick, her interactions and her feelings for him. For his part, Rick learned at an early age courtesy of his mother that women shouldn’t be trusted, but he went from barhopping manwhore to celibate in a blink of an eye for Quinn even if he didn’t realize why he did it. Then she pulls a complete cowardly maneuver that had me doing a double take and cursing as book 1 ended!
When Quinn finally gets herself together and takes action to divest herself of her scumbag ex once and for all in Friendly Fire, you just know that she isn’t going to escape unscathed. Rick is justifiably pissed at her for her actions at the end of Locked and Loaded and for how long it takes her to actually speak to him afterward. When he is sent off on a mission with several of the guys, his head is not in the game and he is injured, but nothing is easy with these two and they both pass on the opportunity to make things right rather than actually open up to each other. At this point, I started to get a little frustrated with both of them. Quinn refused to explain her situation to Rick, and after letting down his guard with her only to get kicked in the teeth, he is in no hurry to make nice with her again. He growls at everything that moves and she does what she does best- she runs again and it comes back to bite her in the end.
As Extraction Point opens, Rick is on the verge of losing his sh*t altogether as the team gathers to try to help Quinn. That man has some serious anger issues and he was a walking talking jackass to everyone for a good portion of this book. Quinn only exacerbates the issue by asking him to act against everything that is in his nature and guilting him into agreeing until he finally reaches his breaking point. While I can understand her request intellectually, I felt like she was emotionally blackmailing him at that point. The man she claimed to fall in love is wired to operate a certain way and it caused her to fall for him, but when the time came to use his skills to protect her, she tried to shut him down. Little by little as the books progressed, she said and did little things that grated on my nerves, but when she used her victim status as a weapon and gave him an ultimatum, I really lost a lot of respect for her as a result.
Overall I enjoyed the Ricochet series aside from my issues with Quinn. Fortunately the other characters in the story made up for her in my mind as Ms. Leigh wrote a great supporting cast from Rick’s fellow trainers/ operators to Mack to her new best friend Mara. I hope there are more stories to come in the future featuring some of these other wonderful folks!
I am a huge lover of military (and ex-military) romances so mix that with some MMA fighting and I was instantly sold on this book. Ricochet is a full length novel written in third person POV but is broken up into three parts being released within a week of each other, so a bit like a serial.
Rick “Ricochet” Brennan is an ex-special ops Marine now working for his former boot camp commanding officer who runs Sanctum MMA gym. But the gym is just a front for what really goes on. Mack has picked each and everyone one of his trainers at the gym who just happen to be ex-Military or ex-FBI agents. Mack is running a secret mercenary for hire operation that does mostly special ops and they are hired by the government. Quinn has recently escaped her abusive husband, changed her name and looking for a fresh start to she seeks out one of her father’s friends for help, Mack who hires her as their new receptionist at his gym. Ricochet not only got his nickname for his name Rick, he got it for his man-whore ways, leaving one woman’s bed only to ricochet into the next one but when he meets Quinn, he is instantly taken and loses interest in any other woman. Quinn has put up her walls, not letting anyone in or know about her past but something about Rick and his persistence has made her let him in and lower her walls. Only problem is that it’s only a matter of time before Quinn’s ex husband catches up with her.
I liked both Quinn and Rick’s characters as well as Mack and all the other guys Sanctum but I found I just didn’t connect with them. Quinn was a great strong character, she survived all that her husband had put here through over the years and she didn’t give up, she came close but instead slowly overtime planned her escape and finally got away from Travis. He disconnected Quinn from the world and beat her down physically and mentally and she could have easily given up, a lot have but she fought back, she escaped and later on in the story when she is faced with Travis yet again, she fought back in more than one way. Rick was the typical military guy, very Alpha male, always needing control, protective of what’s his. He was a man-whore before Quinn came along and his ways truly earned him his nickname but something about Quinn has caused him to change his ways and want more from her.
I liked the storyline of the book, basically your ex-military guy meets girl out of abusive relationship, feelings develop and he goes all Alpha male to do anything to save her from the crazed ex husband. Yes this storyline has been done many times before but I will say this one had different twists and turns in it. My only issue with it was the storyline played out, it just didn’t work for me. I didn’t feel the strong connection they seemed to have, it was very insta-love that seemed to come across more as lust and chemistry rather than real love. Also their personalities took too much of a 180 change and took it too fast. For someone that had been physically and sexually abused for years by her husband and now with the first man since that, the moment she met Rick she definitely didn’t act like someone that was a victim of abuse, her personality didn’t fit at all with her past. I also found at times the story just fall flat for me, I found myself skimming many times throughout all three books,
Overall these books were just an okay read for me and I was left wanting more from them, more connection and more feeling. I will be completely honest and say I prefer reading first person POV but I have enjoyed many books thoroughly that have been written in third person. With this story, I think I would have connected better with the characters and their connection if it had of been written in first, the third person POV just didn’t work for me. Maybe if I could have maybe got a little more inside of their head I could have felt his instant connection with her so that it didn’t feel so insta-love and I could have understood her actions a little better.

Hot and handsome ex-military guys with cocky attitudes and scarred souls? I was in the moment I heard Heather C. Leigh’s new trilogy featured a guy who’d fit this description to a tee. When I found out there was a whole gym full of these guys, I was all but pulling out the pompoms, because my love for alpha book boyfriends knows few, if any, limits. Juxtapose a heavy hitter like ex-Marine Rick “Ricochet” Brennan with a fragile yet steel-spined flower like Quinn Wallace, a woman trying to escape her abusive husband, and I was intrigued from the moment I read the blurb for the Ricochet series.
I found myself really enjoying the characters in this series. Rick was butt-kicking on the outside and reluctantly gooey on the inside, and it was a pleasure to see him go from playboy to prince through the course of this series. Meanwhile, I found myself really appreciating the way Quinn fought to reclaim her sassiness and self-respect after having her confidence and body broken by her ex’s brutality.
Extraction Point is book three in the Ricochet series, and it’s where everything that’s been building as far as the characters’ personal development, their relationship, and the issues that threaten to tear them apart are concerned comes to a head. I can’t really go into detail about what those things are without spoiling the other books in the series, but these include: the danger posed by Quinn’s abusive past, the secrets in Rick’s present, and the emotional baggage that threatens to keep both Quinn and Rick from trusting one another with their hearts. So let me say that I found the HEA pretty darned satisfying. And if you’re thinking of jumping into the series with this book, I’d say one word: don’t. You’ll miss all the fun from seeing Rick and Quinn tiptoe around each other, explode into hot and heavy fireworks, and then go back to tiptoeing when the fallout starts topping the intensity scale.
This third book especially brings back the action-packed quality of the first book in the trilogy, something I missed a bit in the second volume. It also tempers the steamy sex scenes with sweet and funny moments between the two main characters and the family they’ve found at Sanctum, the MMA gym where both Rick and Quinn work.
That being said, I do wish I had gotten to learn more about Rick’s past and his family, and on a very anal note, I wish some tighter copy editing had been done on all three novels, but neither of these points kept me from enjoying the books (or devouring all three books in the trilogy within a single afternoon). A word of warning, though: if you’re not really into cliffhangers, it would be best to download all three books in the series in one go and read them sequentially. Still, even though cliffhangers are a pet peeve of mine, the fact that Book 3 was released just a couple of weeks after Book 2, which in turn was released a couple of weeks after Book 1, had me giving this series a get-out-of-jail-free card on this point.
And on a final note, I just want to add that, with so many book-boyfriendables working at Sanctum MMA, I sure hope Ms. Leigh gets to work on some of the other guys’ stories, pronto!
Rick “Ricochet” Brennan had been special ops Marine Force Recon solider for eight years until an injury sends him home for good. Horrible memories of that night plague Rick, leaving him a damaged man. He finds comfort in his no strings attached one night stands and his job at Sanctum working for his old Commanding Officer Howard “Mack” McEvoy in his Atlanta MMA gym/covert operations headquarters. Rick doesn’t want or need a woman in his life, he’s not looking for love until one day he locks gazes with Quinn.
At twenty-three years old Quinn Wallace has faced many terrible tragedies and hardships. When she needs to hide from her abusive husband, she goes to her deceased father’s old Marine buddy, Mack to help. He doesn’t ask any questions just gives the broken, scared Quinn a job and a place to stay. She soon finds herself in the middle of a bunch of huge, intimidating men, who could easily be very dangerous. The most dangerous to her is Rick, Quinn can’t explain her instant attraction to the big Marine but she has a hard time fighting it.
My Review of the series:
This is the story of Rick and Quinn, two people who are destroyed by bad experiences in their past that they are trying to overcome. Their demons haunt them, but they try to live the best way they can. I thought Rick and Quinn had some chemistry right away and it builds up as the story progresses. Once they both stop fighting what they are, feeling their attraction is explosive. The sex scenes are scorching and well written definitely kept my attention. Quinn has a hard time trusting Rick, she struggles with throughout the series and who could blame her. She is coming out of a very abusive relationship with a husband who is still out there looking for her, she feels stared and alone. When Ricochet charms his way into her life she realizes she doesn’t want to be just some temporary bed buddy. Can she trust him to protect her and not just her physically, but her heart as well? I liked Quinn, she fought through many tough spots, dealing with abuse; I thought the author did a good job depicting the horrors of domestic violence.
Rick wants nothing more than to get to know Quinn and protect her from whatever it is she is hiding. When he finds out about her husband his protective alpha male tendencies kick into high gear. Combine that with a bunch of other hot, muscular, highly trained soldiers who will to put their lives on the line for Rick and Quinn, and then you have a thrilling story. Since the first two books both have cliffhangers I was glad to have been gifted all three books at once. As the end of the three book approached, I could not put it down, the suspense of finding Travis, Quinn’s dirt bag husband was killing me. I don’t like spoilers, so I will just say the third book is full of surprises. Really good series definitely recommend, especially since you can buy all three books. I hope that Ms. Leigh decides to give us the stories of some of the other male characters we go to know at Sanctum. If you like hot, sweaty military men and a great love story with a bit of suspense to go along with it this is the series for you.
