1800 years ago…

It was time for him to die. Rembrandt was ready. He had put up a good fight and nearly died twice that day, but now he was done and he was ready to die on the battlefield with the rest of his brethren. Death would be merciful, he would finally be with his wife and children.

A being clad in black had other ideas. Rembrandt was meant to help him fight his cause and to help right a wrong that his kind had brought to this world. He gifted the reluctant Rembrandt with a taste for blood and immortality…and more…so much more.

Back to the present...

Rembrandt had had enough. He was over this life 1800 years ago and now he was just sick of it. The creatures he fought, the malefactors, kept growing in numbers and he couldn’t kill them fast enough to keep up. He had fought the battle alone all these years and he wasn’t sure he even wanted to anymore.

Skylar Manning was just trying to be nice. The mysterious man dressed in black was hanging around after closing…again. It was the third time this week. Only this time he grabbed her arm. Her world changed forever.

Suddenly she found herself hunted by shadowy figures with razor sharp teeth, and into the arms of a warrior who craved her as much as she did him…

Rembrandt is book one in this amazing series. This is a sort of dark paranormal romance, however it has lots of action scenes, good guys fighting the really bad dudes and some wonderfully played out love scenes.

Rembrandt was saved from dead on the battle field many, many years ago by a being from another realm. Hector is building an army for good starting with Remy, while his one time friends are also amassing a force made for evil.

Skylar is also saved from a certain death by Hector. She was to be a "reward" for Remy. The no nonsense and take no prisoners Skylar is Remy's mate and together they will be joined by others like them and fight the ever present and greatly menacing army of malefactors. Malefactors are basically killing machines created by the bad guys from the other realm to take over the planet Earth.

Get this awesome beginning of a wonderful series and watch the battle unfold!!!

'Rembrandt' is the first book in Kathi S. Barton's "Blood Brotherhood" series and it is completely different from anything I've read by her before. Oh, there are a few comparisons, such as Rembrandt being in existence for over 1800 years because the Man in Black, aka Hector, changed him into not only a vampire but a day-walker as well. Apparently, Hector and his associates had created the perfect killing machines, malefactors, on their own planet to help them win a war. Thinking this creation would help the people on Earth, they set out to do the same thing only Hector thinking he was smarter than those he worked with messed with the formula. That's where Rembrandt, aka Remy, comes in. His job is to destroy the malefactors and he's been doing this on his own for, as I said, over 1800 years and he's tired of his existence. Things are beyond getting out of hand and Hector has decided that not only does Remy deserve a reward but some help as well. Skyler works at the diner trying to make enough to survive and pay off a mountain of debt. She thought the man in black was just another strange customer. Apparently, she thought wrong because he not only marked her with hieroglyphics that are an exact match to Remy but now she has fangs and wings as he does. When these two meet their old-world and modern times but the chemistry is confusing, to both of them, off the chart. This is one I had to follow closely for all the details, and there are many. The twists and turns, the consequences, the figuring out what's going on, how to use their magic, and how to get answers, and above all how to destroy the malefactors before they can completely take over. The storyline is definitely intriguing and the character's personalities have traits that are relatable. After all this time, are they able to work as a team though? That's the question. I'm anxious to see how this all works out.

Leading Leaders

This was a delicious read from start to finish. Rembrandt is a warrior who fought a good battle and was ready to give up after losing his wife and kids, until a man appears telling him that he needs to live so that he can help him fight a wrong he believes his people has done. Fast forward to years later and Rembrandt is a man still struggling with his immortality. The man appears again and decides to give Rembrandt a reward which is Skylar who's also struggling to get her life in order. When these two come together there is undeniable chemistry and sparks fly off the pages. Along this journey we will meet different characters who will play pivotal roles in helping Rembrandt and Skylar rid the world of beings that are trying to take over. This was a different take on paranormal and something new from this author who seems to be able to write Alpha's and kick-butt heroines that captures your attention and have you waiting for the next book. Congratulations on a fantastic start to what is going to be another great series.

Rembrandt: Blood Brotherhood begins a new series by bestselling author Kathi S. Barton and it does not disappoint. For fans of Aaron's Kiss Series, you will notice some parallels between these two. I for one am excited for Rembrandt. Such a sad and lonely existence he has led for so long. Skylar is going to be just what he needs to start living again. She will be his partner in more ways than one, with powers and abilities changing and adapting as time goes on. The battle between good and evil is just getting going and Rembrandt is going to need a team to help him in these battles. Each one will be different, each one will have their own personalities and demons. It will be up to Rembrandt to bring them together and keep them together with Skylar's help.

Remy was back from the 1800 when he was turn by the man in black is what he was called .
Remy has to protect humans from the malefactors .. Sylar was a waitress and the man in black had touched her
and she seem to change some how .. Remy and Skylar was mates and their powers have grown together ..
This is not a typical vampire story .. It is very different kind of read *** Warning
dark fantasy read ..

wasn't sure what to expect of this book & not sure what I think now that I've read it. it was interesting but also confusing, as if the story itself wasn't sure where it was going and would just "jump and hope it made it" when it decided it needed to "make something work". so while the pieces may not seem to fit perfectly, the overall effect still results in viable overall picture.

Interesting!

This book is very different from all of the other books this author has written. This book & this series I believe will have the same bad people throughout the entire series. This series & this book I believe is more of a dystopian world with all of the creatures in it both the good ones & the bad ones.

Rembrandt or Remy as he likes to be call has been alive for at least 1800 years & has been fighting the same bad guys (malefactors) all this time alone. Now that is all about to change all with him.

Skylar has been working at the diner for several years & trying to pay off the money that her father’s housekeeper stole from them by charging stuff on their credit cards. But, 1 night that all changes for her when the “man in black” changes her to be Remy’s mate. & let’s say that she wasn’t all that happy at 1st about that change.

This book was very good & interesting not only with the good vs bad plot but, with the sex scenes too.

I just love Kathi´s writing style. Every time she captures my interest with the first book of each series. This time is no difference.
I like the way Remy and Skylar meet and fall in love.
I am also a big fan of al the supernatural angles she uses.
I hope there will be more series to come.

My review:

This is going to be an amazing series. The storyline that is developing is very intriguing. This book kept me glued to the pages right up to the end. It has the romance between Remy and Skylar, but more than that, it has intrigue and a bit of mystery and a lot of thrills.

Most of Kathi Barton's books can be read as stand alone, but this series seems to be different. It seems that Kathi Barton has outdone herself with this book and most probably this series! I cannot wait for the next book in the series!

Having read some of the other books in this series first, I found it easier to understand what was going on. If I had started with this one first, I might have been somewhat confused. Being the first in the series there were a lot of things to set up and put in place that were important to the future storyline. However, I found myself getting lost quite a few times and rereading to make sure I understood the players. Remy is an old warrior, he was alone for over 1800 years and all of a sudden he has lots of people in his space. I think he handled it better then I would have expected but still thought he was too understanding I guess. Skylar was different, she started out confrontational and continued that way. She was the one that everyone seemed to differ too and I think that should have been Remy's position. They still thought him the boss but she scared them, even Remy seemed to back away from her when she was angry. I understand that its a relationship thing that when your women is mad you give way but it just seemed strange. I also thought it was strange that Hector who was supposed to have made them was not more informed on what they could do, he seemed to be just as confused as they were as new things manifested. There is a lot of information, character building, plot building and unexplained occurrence that set this storyline up and it can be a bit overwhelming. Having read the other stories in this series I understand the importance of building the foundation for things to come and suggest you just keep reading as it will all come together in the future. While I did enjoy this story it was not one of my favorites so I can only give it a 3.5 star rating.
I was given an ARC for an honest review.

Ohh how I love reading Kathi's books! I always get so excited when I see she has a new book out, I usually will stop in the middle of another book just to read hers.

This one was a little different than what I am used to reading from Kathi, which might I add is every single book she has put out. But I enjoy the fact that she's one author who stretches her imagination and I still can enjoy her writing.

So we have Remy (Rembrandt) who is an 1800 year old "vampire" with special powers who was turned against his will by the man in black. He is now a warrior helping this man in his quest to destroy the "shadows" (BTW that's not really what they are called, but it's what I'm calling them).

Skylar is working in a diner when the man in black (a regular customer to her) touches her and her world is turned upside down. She wakes up and now drinks blood, but still eats food and it now hunted by the same "shadows" that Remy hunts.

Throughout the book Remy and Skylar must learn about the new powers they have been given and help each other to become the new leaders of this family they have collected. I must say I was sad that we kind of got a little cliff hanger ending, but I guess it's necessary to lead into the next book. Can't have them killing ALL the bad guys in one book, right? I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

The story, while difficult to read smoothly, is an interesting one. However, there is possibly a little too much going on.
This first book in the series basically leaves the reader with all the unanswered questions.
I find the story a bit too dark and depressing and that overshadows what little "romance" there is...really the romance is Insta-love/lust, lots of "must have rough sex now" kind of lust.
I don't enjoy the way the book is written, it's hard to follow, things are thrown at the reader and half the time I don't know who said what.
I have already purchased the second book otherwise I'd not bother to be honest.

Excellent

I was not sure about reading this story when it was first released, so waited before giving it a try. I enjoyed it so much, now I wish I had read it sooner. Once I started reading, I could not put it down. Remy and Skylar's story is fantastic...one of the best I have read in a while. There is passion, romance, action and suspense. I can't wait to read more in this series.

All I can say is AMAZING. Kathi S Barton has done it again with the start to another wonderful series. Remy is from the 1800's and is here to protect humans from the malefactors. Sylar is his mate and together their powers grow. A definite must read - would recommend to everyone. Congrats Kathi S Barton on another great series

A story full of action, love and a massive family bond that keeps growing the people add to the main characters. I have read other books by Kathi S Barton and her books just make you want to believe more into the paranormal creatures like animal shifters and vampires and the possibility that love can happen anywhere. Starting the second book now!
