I'm seated. The bookstore employees are scared and asking me to leave because it's "not released yet" but I'm simply too seated

thank you to Hachette and NetGalley for the e-arc! <3
4.5 ⭐️ i wrote this really fast and will edit later but to summarise wowww this both healed me and ruined my life

first general thing i want to say now that i’ve finished the series — this is absolutely one of my favourite vampire stories ever. the reimagined origins was one of the things that caught my interest way back for Immortal Dark, and as the series has progressed, the vampire lore combined with mythology has panned out so well and was consistently interesting. it makes perfect sense within the world and these vampires are some of my favourites. there were moments in this book where the pieces all came together in ways i didn’t predict, and it kept me on edge in a really good way — i didn’t know what was coming, but i absolutely want to do a re-read of the whole series to see where those little pieces were sprinkled earlier. everything coming together throughout this book (especially susenyos’ sage, made my whole year) was well thought out and satisfying to read.

individual characters: kidan first, obviously.
not going to lie, she was frustrating in the first book, but her development across the trilogy was satisfying to read and i love her down now. her and june’s struggle for sagehood, with kidan being the one deemed not worthy of being sage by the last sage, was done well. i like the reveal that the first sage was like kidan rather than june, that kidan being sage worked for her because of her ‘walking the line’ between humans and vampires. it made all her relationships more interesting.

and june. i’m devastated. i didn’t care that much for her in book two as i couldn’t really make up my mind about her, but by the end of this book i really cared for her and i was as desperate as kidan for june to survive.

kidan and susenyos… the end of book two? absolutely sick and twisted. i read the ending in the boot of my car on the side of a mountain and frisbee’d the book out of said car and had to rescue it before it fell down said mountain. going from the whole find you beautiful in every room thing to page one, book one was genuine torture. i rooted so hard for them throughout this book and i LOVED reading susenyos’ perspective while he figured everything out. i’ll admit i was a slight bit worried about how kidan and susenyos would end up but i formally apologise to Tigest Girma for my absolute lack of faith because i am finally out of the torture chamber that was the enemies part of this relationship and the lovers part was sooo satisfying. it worked out perfectly. when the author said “true enemies to lovers” she really meant it. i suffered.

kidan and june — DOOMED. miserable. loved them in this book. like i said earlier i had mixed feelings on june in book two, which was somewhat disappointing because throughout book one i was looking forward to meeting her when kidan finally got her back. looking back on reading book two though, i think the way june was written was done well, because she ‘betrays’ kidan by revealing she went willingly, and the reader feels that too. this book, i just felt sorry for june the entire time. i was glad when her and kidan finally worked together, only for that stupid sagehood to tear them apart again. first sage count your days. kidan and june in this book ended up having one of my favourite dynamics.

june and taj… don’t even talk to me. became some of my favourites and then that STUPID SAGEHOOD happened. taj deciding to go into the abyss with her? i’m miserable. loved them so much.

one of the things i really desperately wanted to happen in this series was for susenyos and samson to make up. i’m healed. felt awful for samson in regards to talaa but them clearing the lusidio camp together was amazing.

there were a lot of things i loved about this book/series and i won’t write out my thoughts on every single one but the side characters were sooo good. i cared about every single character in this book and i cared about the binds and sagehood. endlessly thankful to get an e-arc of this, a genuinely amazing way to finish this series! i’ll always be thinking of it. have to recover from the emotional damage first.
