Rereading of the post apocalyptic world, starts incredibly compelling, wears a tad thin towards the end, but is a really interesting take on the psychology of keeping the last remnants of humanity locked up and kept safe for their own protection
The interesting story of how this book was born and grown through reddit is perhaps more prescient of the book industry's future than the story is of science, health technology, and war.
The story was compelling and unique, especially by science fiction standards. Editing could have helped this series considerably along. The author is fearless with the fate of his characters, which makes it exciting at times. On other occasions, characters are explored late without advancing the plot, disrupting the pace. It was also a bit stretched, which made it easy to put down for long periods of time before returning to it - a good book for someone who spends lots of time in an airport.
The only thing I really didn't like about this book was how as soon as you started to like a character,he killed him or her. I almost gave up reading early on, because I felt like it wasn't getting anywhere. As you read, though, you will see that the writer is trying to establish how uncertain life is in a world where there are few resources. Rules must be followed for the survival of society, even if the the day to day is dismal.
Interesting saga, the final book shed some light onto a much larger storyline. It will be interesting to see if he keeps publishing these on his own. Cool idea. Decent writing. If you enjoy scifi, you'll enjoy the story.
