May the Farce be with You!

Rate this book
Long, long, long ago in a galaxy far, far, far away...(Well, when we say long ago, we mean quite a long time ago; but not THAT long ago—for instance, not right at the beginning of the Universe, because everything was very hot then, and the highest form of life was a sort of worm...) A story of unbelievable heroism and unspeakable villainy, where new but appallingly familiar characters mess about in an hilarious struggle of good versus evil using loads of cool machines. Meet Princess Liar, a heroine who has a problem with the truth; Dark Visor, a mutant with a motorcycle; and Choccibikki the Cookie, Hans Zup, a surrender-oriented hero, and their ship, The Millennium Bug.

This book consists of two separate books - the first is a parody of the original Star Wars trilogy, the second (and much longer) is a parody of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Unfortunately, neither of them is particularly funny. In the whole 400+ pages, there were only two bits that made me laugh out loud, and in the first of them the joke was subsequently carried on so long that it ceased to be funny.

Overall, there is a level of amusement to it, and some of the puns are witty, but it was generally disappointing. Perhaps the issue was that it is hard to write a parody of a set of films in which the visuals are so important.

A fun and weird parody of a much loved sci fi series. This is an enjoyable read for people after a quick laugh and some sci-fi action. Although, die hard fans of the movies may find it difficult.
