You don't want to stowaway on a ship that's sinking

Titanic children's books were everywhere at the point of the anniversary, and I have read quite a few of them now. They're short and simple, but at the same time, quite informative. This one, however, has been split into four separate books (reading order included at the end of the review), so you really will need to read them back to back, to get the full effect, as it's a bit of a let down otherwise.

This is illustrated by Scott Murphy, with quite detailed pencil-style drawings throughout. Scott has done quite well to stick to the storyline, and tie in the pictures to the main storyline, and remain consistent.

Steve Brezenoff has written a good, well researched storyline, which centres around Tucker and Maya, who are holiday from school, and having to help out Tucker's mum in the museum. They find a mystery box of Titanic artefacts, of which there are no records of - the box contains a cancelled Titanic ticket, a battered and worn lifejacket, a teacup, and a broken violin. In the first book, they touched the ticket, which took them back to the Titanic leaving Queenstown. They figure that touching another item, might take them back to a different point in time, so they put off touching the lifejacket, for obvious reasons.

The teacup takes them back in time to a very busy dining room, on the evening of April 14th 1912. They are heading back to find their "friend" Liam Kearney. I use the term friend lightly, as they really only met Liam, and tried to get him and his family from boarding the Titanic. So Liam and his family probably think Tucker and Maya are a little bit "daft" now. But Tucker feels a strange connection to Liam ...

Each chapter is separated by a map, pinpointing where Maya and Tucker are at that point in time - this goes between New York, Queenstown, and the middle of the Atlantic.

The book ends at page 104, with the Titanic hitting the iceberg and leaves it annoyingly open ended, to continue onto the next book in the series. With each book, there is a brief passenger manifest at the back, each featuring a real life character. The previous book was John Coffey, a fireman who deserted his post in Queenstown, due to a dream he'd had. This book is Violet Jessop, who appears towards the end of the book, to look after the two stowaways.

It is an excellent book if you want to get your kids interested in the Titanic, or reading as an adult, if that is where your interests lie. Just make sure that you have the next book ready to go, otherwise you will have a very disappointed child/adult!

Tucker snd Maya travel back to the Titanic using a teacup to help Liam. While there they were chased as stowaways. As stowaways they found out the Captain had already altered the course slightly to the South. However, bells and sirens went off and the iceberg was still hit.

The book title: Return To Titanic: Stowaways
Author: Steve Brezenoff

Summary: there are these two kids, one girl(Maya Cho) and one boy(Tucker Paulsen). They travel back in time to the titanic by using titanic shipwreck findings their mission is to find the capitan to turn the ship away from the icebergs. When they travel to the titanic there on the 1st class floor(rich class) they try to sneak away but they get caught by a man in a black uniform. The guy in the black uniform led them to 3rd class(poor class). They find out that their on the ship the night it sinks they only have a couple hours left to find the capitan. So they search the ship and they found the captain's son so they tell the son that the ship is going to sink via iceberg. The son leads them to the captain and they tell the captain that they need to change course but the captain knows about the icebergs and has already changed course. The guy with the black uniform(from earlier) tells them to get some rest so they go to the maid house and they use the teleporter to go back to current time.

Recommendation: it's a good book. I like history so if you like fiction history i would recommend it. It is an easy book It's not hard in any way, it was kind of predictable. the ending was good.

I am a huge Titanic fan. When I saw these books I thought why not? They could be fun quick reads? And they were! First of all, the illustrations in this book are great! In this book Tucker and Maya are searching through Titanic artifacts and by accident wind up back in 1912. They try to save everyone, especially their friend Liam, but end up getting chased as stowaways.
This book is part of a series. This series is called Return to Titanic. There are four books in this series: 1st- Time Voyage, 2nd- Stowaways, 3rd- An Unsinkable Ship, and 4th- Overboard. These books are quick reads that are fun.
My favorite part about these books were the historical facts at the end. In this book you learn about Violet Jessop. Violet was a stewardess on the Titanic. An interesting fact about her is that she survived the sinking of Titanic and Britannic and also sailed on the Olympic! (Titanic, Olympic, and Britannic were all sister ships from White Star Line) These books were worth reading, just for the facts at the end.

"Stowaways" picks up where Book #1 in the Return to Titanic series left off... the 2nd day of Spring Break. All Maya and Tucker want to do is get the chance to visit the Titanic again.

The author is doing such a good job with this series by showcasing some of the important historical figures concerning the Titanic's story. I enjoyed how Book #2 shows young readers how large the ship really was, by telling of Maya and Tucker's adventure on board. It also accurately captures the essence of 1912 finery and fashion, and then comparing it to how the 3rd-class passengers were poorly treated and restricted.

Overall, a very cool book that kids will enjoy learning from (whether they realize it or not!)

The second in the series takes the main characters back to the Titanic where they try to help the boy (Liam) that they encountered on their first visit. They also talk to Captain Smith and try to get him to change the ships course. This series does a good job introducing some of the historical figures as well as different amenities on the ship, while keeping young readers engaged in the drama of the ships fate.

There was a lot to like about this book. Good kids, great premise, nice description.

My first grip is with Amazon. For some reason, it was hard to tell which book was first. Consequently, my ten year old and I read the second one first.

Plus, the story is not that long and now I have to buy another one? I'm thinking this should be one book for a decent price.

Also, Maya was too smart to go swimming.

Just finished reading this book with my daughter. I enjoy these types of reads because it gives my daughter some idea of the truth that happened on the titanic intermixed with fiction.
