WOW! This book is heartbreakingly beautiful! I absolutely loved it! The cover is just as stunning as the story inside! Hands down, the best Snow White retelling I’ve ever read! I literally binge read this book! I couldn’t put it down! Eira is such a lovely character with a beautiful heart and I adored getting to know her. Owen was awesome! I loved from the start! Eira and Owen’s love story was so precious and sweet! I loved it! Amara was downright evil and disgusting! I literally couldn’t stand her! I do want to note that there is talk about eating hearts, lungs, livers. But just keep reading, I promise you, it’s worth it! 😉 I loved how unique and yet similar this story is to Snow White. The faith content was so good and I adored every part! It was worded so beautifully! I had tears in my eyes at the end! If you haven’t read this book, you need to! It’s amazing! I highly recommend! Worth every single star! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Aurora Belle, you have created a masterpiece! I can’t wait to read more of your work!

What an amazing, faith filled, beautiful story of redemption! It had so many loveable characters and the villian😲. I loved how this story played out at the end. That final letter😭. Well done!!

This book was written by a dear book friend of mine and I was excited to heard that it would be a non-magical fairytale retelling! It was definitely in the style of a Melanie Dickerson fairytale retellings, but with more medieval words used like “thee” and “prithee”.
I wasn’t expecting to get four POVs of this story, but it added in a different dynamic of this Snow White retelling to have not only the princess and prince, but also the evil queen and the huntsman. Obviously, I didn’t like the evil queen for most of the story (she was a complete psychopath) but we aren’t supposed to like her! I liked Eira and Owen, but I wished we had seen more of them together as they fell in love very quickly as per the story of Snow White.
Like Eira at the beginning, I also had a dozen questions on what was going on. It wasn’t until towards the end of the book when I realized this was roughly based off of some actual history! So I did a quick readthrough certain Wikipedia pages to find out the historical background and contexts of this war between Queen Matilda and the others. Some parts of it matched up and some parts did not, so I’m not sure if it would be helpful or not to know about that time period before reading this book. I think had I known more about the general idea prior, I probably would have been a little less confused about what was going on as I was lost at times due to old-fashioned words and items mentioned. (There’s a handy glossary of words/items at the back of the book, as a heads up!) At first I thought we were dealing with a fictional country in between real countries like England and Germany, but it was all a historical time period that I am not familiar with in the slightest. I think those more interested in that element will enjoy it more than me.
The writing style was very poetic, which admittedly is not my personal favorite, but that’s a me thing and other readers may enjoy it more!
The faith content was very sweet and well done. I wasn’t sure how it would end, but I was pleased by the faith content throughout the story especially at the end.
While this book might have not been my normal cup of tea because of the setting, I did like different elements of it and Eira’s kindness and compassion. It was also a great book to read in the winter time with all the snowy settings!
(As a note for potential readers: There is an author with a similar pen-name that writes very sexual, dark books. Please be cautious when searching for this book’s author and I suggest searching by the title instead to avoid seeing the other author’s books.)

PERSONAL REVIEW:
Just in time for the “historic” winter storm I was able to read this lovely Snow White/Queen Matilda retelling.
I loved this! The romance is touching, the characters are nuanced and complicated, and the historical parallels are a fascinating touch. (I recommend reading the historical side of things after reading this book.)
Something I appreciate about this retelling is that this Snow White character is naive and trusting.
It’s a factor that is changed in every live action screen adaptation and most book retellings. And honestly, I’m tired of it. Being innocent in every sense of the word is a huge part of the character of Snow White.
In Crown of Beauty and Anarchy, Eira is a wonderful balance between the classic Snow White character with still having agency in the story. Yes, she’s naïve and sheltered—of course she would be, considering her situation. In this story, her childlike innocence is, at times, her weakness. But in the cutthroat world of royalty and politics, that innocence and faith in people is also her strength.
The Christian elements are lovely. I liked that both Eira and Owen are both strong in their faith while still struggling to get stronger and understand God more. There is a particular scene that sticks with me that is very moving. I love seeing characters show forgiveness not simply through words, but through actions as well.
CONTENT REVIEW:
Sexual content: Little to none—the romance is very sweet and chaste.
Violence: True to the original tale, the queen commits what she believes is cannibalism by eating the heart, lungs, and liver that the huntsman brings her.
Besides this, nothing very grisly is described.
There lot of attempted murder and injuries and a few mentions of characters getting killed offscreen. An animal beloved to one of the main characters is killed.

But in the cutthroat world of royalty and politics, that innocence and faith in people is also her strength.
The Christian elements are lovely. I liked that both Eira and Owen are both strong in their faith while still struggling to get stronger and understand God more. There is a particular scene that sticks with me that is very moving. I love seeing characters show forgiveness not simply through words, but through actions as well.
CONTENT REVIEW:
Sexual content: Little to none—the romance is very sweet and chaste.
Violence: True to the original tale, the queen commits what she believes is cannibalism by eating the heart, lungs, and liver that the huntsman brings her.
Besides this, nothing very grisly is described.
There lot of attempted murder and injuries and a few mentions of characters getting killed offscreen. An animal beloved to one of the main characters is killed.

February 19, 2026DNF’d 25% in. The editing in this book is poor, so many misspellings of her character’s name. But besides that, the prose is very hard for me to get into. I am struggling connecting with the characters and don’t really desire to know what happens. Also, the faith aspect is rough. She tries ti bring in God by using actual Bible stories (I can appreciate that, but in a mythical story, wouldn’t you use allegory?) I usually love retellings, this one is falling flat.

I feel like there are the bones of a good story here, but it needs more editing. Some parts were drawn out and over explained, the end was rushed, and there were lots of places I was just confused and left wondering.
