Dollycas’s Thoughts

Amber Reed is still good friends with her ex. When his brother is found dead he calls for a celebrity murder investigation and asks Amber to help the investigator assigned to the case. The investigator is not happy but knows she is going to follow him no matter where he goes so he concedes to letting her tag along. Amber doesn’t know why but she is very attracted to this investigator and the more time they spend together the closer they get. As their romance heats us so does the danger. Is a life for them together “in the stars”? Will they survive this investigation and catch the killer?

If you like your mysteries balanced by romance and humor this is the perfect story for you.

Zanna Mackenzie has created some truly delightful characters in Amber and Charlie. Each a little wary of each other at first, their attraction progresses pretty rapidly. Amber is strong and independent and feels she doesn’t need a man to protect her. That gets her into some dicey situations. Charlie takes his job very seriously and finds himself not only trying to solve his case but keep Amber out of trouble too. Their relationship had me shaking my head, laughing out loud and scared for them, sometimes all on the same page.

The story has some nice twists making the story very exciting. Some of the people involved hold things back to save themselves and without all the details the danger escalates. Turns out we are dealing with much more than murder.

I was very entertained by this story. The mystery was very well written, the characters are very engaging (their romance is G-rated) and there are several hilarious moments. I look forward to reading more books in this series.

In the Stars by Zanna Mackenzie is the first book in the Amber Reed Mysteries series. Amber writes horoscopes and is asked by an ex boyfriend, now a celebrity actor, to help look into his brothers death and to help the Celebrity Crimes Investigation Agency. An interesting and fun mystery with likeable characters. A nice, light and entertaining book.

And the Earth Moved by Zanna Mackenzie is a 2014 publication. I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Amber gets a call from her first serious boyfriend , Ennis, now a famous actor, explaining his troubled brother, Joel, has just been found dead and imploring Amber to please come. Was it an accident, suicide or something far more sinister?

Amber's arrival coincided with that of Charlie Huxton, CCIA. ( Celebrity Crimes Investigation Agency)

Ennis is worried about Charlie and what he might turn up about Joel so he ask Amber to follow Charlie. Charlie is on to her right away, but he thinks Amber might be a help to him, so he allows her tag along.

This light cozy mystery with romantic elements is a charming story filled with humor and a few double entendres, and a perplexing mystery to solve. Amber and Charlie make a great team even if Amber is a little green. All through the investigation Amber has to remind herself that her relationship with Charlie is strictly professional and once the case is cleared he will be off on another celebrity crime case. But is it possible that Charlie may have noticed Amber's natural detective skills? Excellent characterization, flows evenly, great formatting, easy to read, and a very solid start to this series. 4 stars

A quick, easy read with a good mystery. There were several missing commas and such, which sometimes interrupted the flow, but a good story for all that. 3.5*

Thanks to Tantor Audio for supplying me with this book in exchange for a honest review.

I thought all of the characters were a little quirky and didn’t see much chemistry between Amber and Charlie until the end. All in all, this was an enjoyable audio. The narrator kept the story moving. The backdrop was England, which was fun! Ennis does not want to get involved in this caper since he is a famous star. However, he doesn’t think twice than to enlist Amber, his ex-girlfriend. Amber and Ennis must be friends after their break-up! At first Charlie refused but decided that he might as well accept Amber so that he can easily watch her. Otherwise, she was hiding and attempting to solve a murder on her own. Although this is an installment read, I do believe that all books can be read in any order.

I really enjoyed reading this fun cozy set in England. Amber Reed is a great character and is a good friend to Ennis when he needs help finding out who killed his brother. Ennis hires a professional investigator to help the police and has Amber and Charlie a step ahead of the news hounds. Already downloaded book 2 as it looks like Amber and Charlie are going to be working together from now on. An easy read that has you smiling along with a good mystery to solve.

I read this under the title "In the stars", its most current title.

The principal characters are likable and a little too good to be true, but the unlikely plot hangs together well the mystery wasn't at all transparent.

Recommended as not a bad diversion for an afternoon beach read.

AND THE EARTH MOVED is a great first novel in the Amber Reed CCIA Mysteries series. Amber’s celebrity ex, Ennis, asks her to shadow hunky CCIA operative Charlie as he investigates the death of Ennis’s brother. Amber and Charlie have great chemistry together, and you end up really rooting for them to solve the mystery as well as fall in love. The CCIA takes on crimes involving celebrities, so I can imagine there will be a lot of other fun and exciting cases for the characters to solve.

The book is witty and light, with non-stop action and plenty of romance. I love the way the characters play off of each other, especially the leads. My next read will be book 2 in the series, PRECIOUS. I can’t wait to find out what happens to Amber and Charlie next!

Interesting but....

I enjoyed the story and the author described the quarry quite well, found myself getting dizzy during some escapades lol. The lead characters, Amber and Charlie are likeable but I thought Amber a bit pushy and considering Charlie's career, the author failed him terribly. He is a macho man stuck in a chick book. He comes off weak in many ways.

This was a really good book! I LOVED the characters and the plot! There were a lot of different possible suspects, but the one who did the murder was kind of a surprise. I loved the romance aspects as well, and am looking forward to the next in the series as well!

I want to say I enjoyed this book but for me it felt more like a love story than a mystery. There was so much tension and near or stolen kisses that I couldn't help but think just hurry up and get it over with so we can get back to the investigating. Which was a shame because I did like mystery and the characters - when they weren't falling in love. The idea was good and unusual having detectives only working on cases for the rich and shameless and I can see the author having a lot of fun with the series as it develops. I liked that Amber came at the case from a different perspective but I did think her column writing would have been made more of.
When her ex boyfriend turned best friend's brother is found dead, Amber is asked to shadow the private detective hired because he only trusts Amber. The police are keeping the death of a famous actors brother quite, so an investigation can be carried out without all the media and fans getting in the way. Can Amber and Charlie keep things quite and discover what he was doing in a quarry late at night and why he was found dead at the bottom of a put the next morning. The only way Charlie can get people to trust and talk to him is with Amber by his side acting as his girlfriend but is the columnist for the local paper a help or a liability?
I like the narrator. I have heard her read a number of books and she always manages to make them entertaining.

In the Stars is the first book in Amber Reed Mystery series by Zanna Mackenzie.

This is the book where we meet Amber administrator cum horoscope writer cum bartender , twenty something girl living in a small village. Then she gets a call from her ex- boyfriend who just happens to be a very famous movie star and he needs her help.
It turns out his brother is dead and even though he hired famous celebrity agency to investigate his murder he still wants Amber to tail the guy around and see what he is up to.
Agent turns out to be a very handsome guy by the name of Charlie Huxton, who seems very capable of doing his job. Yet Amber manages to convince him to let her help since she knows the village and the residents.
During the investigation, Amber faces not just scary situations but very dangerous feelings going on with her and Charlie.
Will they manage to find the killer and find out what happens in the quarry, but also to realize and handle fireworks between them.
Characters are fun and lovable, it is easy to imagine sparks flying between Amber and Charlie. Well written story with twists and good plot.
Fast paced, fun romantic mystery with characters that will definitely become one of the most lovable couples in the cozy mystery world.

Amber Reed—Book One--In the Stars
Okay, to be honest, I picked the book because the main character's name is Amber Reed, and my surname/last name is Reed. But it is a good read. Amber is a loyal friend, someone her ex-boyfriend trusts. When his brother, a attention seeking bad-boy is killed, Ennis calls Amber. A private security Agency has been hired to investigate--because Ennis is a well known film star. They want to find out what happened to Joel before the press does. Ennis wants Amber to work with Charlie Huxton, an agent for Celebrity Crimes Investigation Agency. Amber is hesitant, but she agrees. Charlie isn't too happy about it. But when Charlie realises that Amber is going to be right behind him--regardless of being warned off, he takes her under his wing. From doing surveillance in the dark, to near misses from speeding cars, Amber and Charlie form a bond, while following unexpected leads to Joel's movements before his death. This is the first in the series, and the tension between all the characters is balanced. And the characters are relatable. Certainly a good read (Reed).

This was a fun cozy mystery. Amber is the least likely sleuth but she tries hard. She works part-time in a pub and newspaper but when a good friend, Ennis, asks her to follow the agent assigned to his brother's death, she can't say no. Ennis is worried that the death had something to do with him because he's now a famous movie star.

It was funny when the agent, Charlie, wouldn't let Amber go with him while he investigated the death but she followed him anyway. Of course, he spotted her right away. Poor Charlie knew it would be easier to keep track of Amber if she was with him so he let her tag along.

I liked the way Charlie tracked down all possible suspects. It was interesting to find out how the death came about. The attraction between Charlie and Amber was nice, too. They tried to stay professional and keep their hands off each other, but it was hard.

Ennis is a famous actor and when his brother is found dead in a nearby quarry he calls in a specialist investigator. Amber is his long-ago ex and still really good friend and Ennis asks her to keep an eye on the investigator Charlie. The story then unravels what happened.
This is a very quick and easy read, which skips along at a brisk pace, and in a light and breezy style. At times a bit too light and breezy given some of the situations that Amber and Charlie find themselves in. There are a few different strands and a bit of mystery, but there isn't much depth to the plot or the characters.
It is also quite short. It finishes as 84% and then you get the obligatory excerpt from the next book.
I enjoyed it for what it is and will probably read the next one as it is free but I am curious to see if it can hook me enough to continue thereafter..

A fun and romantic cozy mystery!

This story is a great start to a new cozy mystery series. I am intrigued with the special police agency introduced in this story, the Celebrity Crimes Investigation Agency (CCIA). Of course one of their top-secret agents, Charlie, adds more than a little flavor to this story. I loved reading of Amber’s many antics and wondering what she would do next. She is a very interesting character, to say the least!

I enjoyed reading this clean, fun, and entertaining read. It is written in UK English, so a couple of times I found myself re-reading a paragraph to make sure I understood what I thought I understood. I am fascinated by our shared English language from across the pond. That just added a little more fun to the story for me. I am anxious to begin binge reading this series.

Amber Reed receives an urgent call from a former boyfriend who's now a major movie star.
His brother has died, and they don't know if he was killed or if it was suicide.

Ennis has hired a specialist celebrity investigation crew to investigate and try to solve it quickly
before the news is released to the public, and he wants Amber to shadow Charlie on the sly if possible.

This was a fun mystery that has a few red herrings, developed characters, and a solid plotline along with a decent amount of humor.

There is a bit of romance that's a little stronger than in other cozy mysteries that I've read, but, the author did a really great job of not letting the romance take over the mystery aspect of the book.

I will definitely be reading the next in the series.

A Mysterious Fun Romp

Amber is an intriguing character. She is competent and compassionate willing to help her friends and others. As such, she agrees to help her friend and first serious boyfriend Ennis with the investigation into his brother's death. Initially she is at cross purposes with Charlie the official investigator. As the case progresses, they find a mutual attraction developing that they try to suppress. I look forward to the next book.

I was looking for something light-hearted right now and it seems I have turned up another series to follow with another 5 books waiting for me to read. Going to keep me busy this month.

A light-hearted read with romance, BUT with a solid mystery and clues to follow along. The characters are solid (not caricatures) set into a theme of celebrity investigations. Fun! Fast!

Fun start to a (new to me) cozy mystery series.

The main characters are fun to read about, even if the occasionally act a little cringe-worthy - though that's par for the course for most books, otherwise stories would be a lot more boring. ;)
I also like the supporting cast, and the overall "village vibe".

I definitely want to read more book in the series. :)

Fun mystery

Quirky characters, nice budding romance, and a good mystery - not too obvious but didn't pull the killer out of thin air. Definitely planning to read the rest in the series.

A good read with a bit of humor and lots of mystory

I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO HAVE GIVEN THIS A 4.5, but a 5 popped out. Lots of backstory & good caracature development. I also liked that there was lots of British in there.

I wish the Amber in this book is in the others.

I like Amber in this book. I do not like her in the books after she makes the cut and joins. I wish in the other books she is a bit more confident and doesn’t always question Charlie. I like Charlie he is a great character.
