Pragmatic Maeve Benetton would never have answered an advertisement for a mail-order bride on her own accord, but without her knowledge and on her behalf, her brother replied to one placed by Patrick Holden from Weatherton, Wyoming. When a letter came from Patrick several weeks later, Maeve decided to pen her own reply, giving in to the romantic notions she’d always kept hidden.
After a time of correspondence, she fancied herself in love with Patrick and agreed to marry him. She packed the few belongings she had, said goodbye to her family, and left her home for romance in the west.
When she arrived in Weatherton, Patrick was nowhere to be found. Weeks went by, and with no money to return home, Maeve was stuck in limbo, living with Patrick’s family. When he finally does return, will Maeve be able to adapt to changes? And can she trust herself enough to fall in love or will she fall back to her practical self?

Although this is the second book of the series, it can be read as a standalone.

I enjoyed this second book in the Brides of Weatherton series. Although this is a series, the book will read as a standalone novel. Maeve Benetton has been taking care of her siblings and the household since she was 14 after the death of her mother. Her brother, being cute, sent a reply for a mail-order bride ad in her name and when a response came, she decided to consider the notion. Patrick Holden from Weatherton, WY turns out to be nothing more than a scoundrel. Unfortunately, too late for Maeve who is already in route. Sam Holden, Patrick's twin brother, is nothing like him. He is responsible and cares for his family and their ranch. The story has pain, rejection, redemption, forgiveness and love. I loved the heartwarming dialogue and interaction between Sam and his family and with Maeve. Can love and happiness be found after disappointment? Will the town of Weatherton finally accept the Holden family in spite of Patrick and the pain he has caused to so many. It is fun to see some of the people of the town that we met in book one.
I enjoyed reading this book. It was well-written and the characters were realistic. Kudos to those young women who packed up everything they owned and left their loved ones behind to move cross country in order to hopefully find love. Maeve found love, but the journey wasn't as smooth as she was expecting. I would recommend this book.
'Fire and Ice' was an inspiration old-west romance like no other I've read. While being an inspirational book, it wasn't preachy...at least it didn't seem so to me. It was, however, full of twists. I wasn't sure where each new decision would lead the characters. I like this type of writing, done in such a vibrant way I found myself easily immersed in the story. On to the characters. The mail-order bride theme is often done. I'm certain those who write mostly in western romance work very hard to find new ways of tackling that. Leah Atwood came through. Maeve is such a strong person inside and out. She really held my attention. But my favorite character is Sam. He's a man of integrity. He's still got some life lessons to learn, though, and that made him relatable. I'd recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading romance, inspirational romance, western romance, or historical romance. It's a sweet story that has just enough grit for it to be that much more believable. Give it a try!
When you can find it in your heart, redemption blossom into so many wonderful possibilities. Sam and Maeve learn a lot of hard lessons but God's love and their love for each other sees them through.
This is the third book in this series that I have either listened to or read. This one was particularly enjoyable for me. I really appreciate the themes of faith and forgiveness. Cannot go wrong with this series.
There are lots of books entited "Fire and Ice" ( See Link fire and ice )
Some of the popular authors are Shannon Hale George R. R. Martin Clive Cussler Robert Frost There are many others that I don't recognize their names as well. If you are going to talk about a book called "Fire and Ice" you will also have to identify its author.
The author of the book I read is Leah Atwood. It was a story of a mail-order bride that comes from Chicago to Weatherton, WY. She is supposed to meet her fiance Patrick Holden at the train station but instead she is welcomed by Sam Holden his twin brother who is as different from him in personality and looks, as fire and ice. There are many twists and turns in the plot and I enjoyed this story very much.
"Fire and Ice (Brides of Weatherton Book 2)" by Leah Atwood was a well-plotted, compelling story that kept me turning pages. I love mail order bride stories and the twist in this one was unique. Maeve was a great character and I simply loved Sam. The only reason this is a four star instead of a five star review is that the editor in me stumbled over things like, "The charred remains of the family home lay in ruins." Really, who cares if the REMAINS are in ruins? Instances of muddled language, which could have easily corrected by a competent editor, kept this from being a great book, but it's still worth reading.
Maeve is a mail order bride. She goes to marry Patrick but finds out he is not sincere. He has a twin brother Sam who she becomes friends with and after Patrick gets married to someone else he then wants to marry Maeve. I really like this book, This is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone books. This is my first book to read by Leah Atwood, I regret not reading her books before, I will definitely read more by her. This is a book that once you start reading you cannot put down. Once again Leah Atwood has written a story that grabs you at the beginning and keeps you to the end. Her characters come alive for you as they learn that God opens another door as He closes one. All things work to God for those called to Gods purpose. God has a plan if you have faith. As a second book in the Brides of Weatherton, this book can be read as a stand alone. I love Leah's writing style. Waiting impatiently (lol) for the next one in the series. I was given this copy for an honest review.
A nice sweet Christian Romance from the late 1800's when a girl decides to be a Mail Order Bride to the West. She goes thinking she knows and loves the man that she's been corresponding with and when she gets there finds that maybe she doesn't know this potential groom that she thought so much about. It's a sweet story, very clean, and not in your face with biblical stance, but nice none the less. I was given this book in exchange for my honest review.
Fire and Ice is a delightful Christian romance. It contains romance, friendship, Christian values, faith and so much more. I enjoyed the authors writing style and her characters. I couldn't put the book down. This is my first book by this author but will not be my last. I look forward to reading more books in this series and others by the author.
A squeaky clean mail order bride book with a twist. When Mauve arrives by train in Wyoming to meet her intended it turns out that he stood her up and sent his brother instead...you'll have to read the book to see what a car her intended was and how she deals with it!
I had the pleasure of reviewing this book for the author. Patrick is a messed up man in this book who does change at the end. Sam and Maeve are special in this story. You won't be able to stop reading this great book.
Another good book by Leah Atwood. This book didn't draw me in like the first book in this series, After the Rain, but after a bit I didn't want to put it down. Grammar and spelling errors slowed me down a bit. All in all a good, clean mail order bride story.
This is a very good book, strikes me as a Christian romance. Basically this book has a meaning and that is God never gives you more than you can handle, God does everything it's all through him.
I liked the characters in this story. They are believable, very human, and sometimes humorous. I love a tale that is respectful of the Lord in a true and realistic manner. This story delivers.
I really enjoyed this short book. It was great to read about the Holden family and the other families from the previous book. I look forward to reading the next book.
