Spending the night in a huge, old house that Wanda Gilmore has just inherited sounds like a thrilling idea to Wishbone and the gang. But it's haunted, and has everyone spooked when an unexpected bit of terror comes their way.
This was my second Wishbone book and I remember reading it several times. I actually really want to read The House of Seven Gables because of this book and at one point I actually started. This to me is one of the best ones and I remember being really hooked to it.
I've had an itch to read a proper haunted horse story for awhile. Now I've finally done it, but I really wasn't expecting it to be Wishbone.
I adored these books as a kid, and I'm happy to say that this was just as entertaining as an adult! The author took a pretty familiar concept and still kept the story engaging, even for a kid's book. I really enjoyed the overall setting and at times the eerieness of it even creeped me out!
It's sad that Wishbone books are so hard to find nowadays without resorting to online. I maintain that they are genuinely good stories and educational for children. This book was no different! If you're an old-school Wishbone fan like me or just want something easygoing for spooky season, track this one down!
My favorite part was when the mystery about what was going on in the house was solved, and Wanda was let keep the house, as soon as Homer Hathaway actually passed away. My least favorite part was when Wanda and the others were almost scared out of the house completely. My favorite character was Wishbone, because he tried to help his friends, even though they never ever listened to anything he had to say. My least favorite charterers were Scuffy and Griffin, because they were mean to Wanda and the others, just because they weren't from the town.

This still holds up for being a fun, spooky children’s book. I read and reread it over a decade ago like it was a religion, and it’s cornier now, of course, but you can tell a lot of love went into this story, even if it is a mass produced franchise novella. It’s worth checking out for spooky season, even as an adult.
