But can Lisa use her outdoor moxie to become the alpha hero of her everyday life? Will she find the grit to pursue a career she really wants or the nerve to stand up to her bullying family? And will she get gutsy enough to go after Jack? Review for Chick Lit Central (www.chicklitcentral.com)

When a freak fast-food accident almost kills daydreaming city girl Lisa Flyte, she decides it's time to get a backbone and really start living out loud. But how is a shrinking violet like Lisa supposed to get tough all of a sudden after a lifetime of watching from the couch? Jack Hawkins, that's how. When Lisa finds out that the outdoor extremist needs a clueless urbanite to test his top-secret line of idiot-proof adventure gear, she gets the most outlandish idea of her life: she will be his undercover test dummy if he helps her become brave on their adventures in the wild.

They strike a deal. Lisa survives the treks, jumps, and dives (barely!) But can she use her bumbling...uh, blossoming outdoor moxie to become the alpha hero of her everyday life? Will she find the grit to pursue a career she really wants or the nerve to stand up to her bullying family? And will she get gutsy enough to go after Jack? He's a man who's not afraid of anything...except maybe falling for Lisa. (Synopsis courtesy of Amazon)

I loved this book. I know I can’t leave my book review with those four simple words and call it a day, but it’s the truth. From start to finish, there wasn’t a single moment I didn’t appreciate or enjoy while reading Miss Adventure. From Lisa’s constant fumbles and bumbles while she’s testing out Jack’s various outdoor equipment to the on-edge budding relationship these two are constantly fighting against, my only complaint was that there wasn’t more for me to read. Geralyn Corcillo has created fun, relatable characters, and I felt a tinge of sadness when I reached the final page to the story, which usually doesn’t happen for me.

I think a sequel is in order here. I’d really enjoy reading more of Lisa’s zany adventures and I want to see where her life has taken her. Will she continue dealing with her family’s drama well after the money they’ve practically stolen from her has run out? What about Jack? Will they be an item, or will their constant cat and mouse approach to romance finally run its course? There are a lot of outside forces at work here, constantly working against those two. If they beat the odds, it would make for a great love story, and I for one would be the first in line to read all about it!

This was a really fun book, I loved some of the ideas in it. Plus I really loved the sense of community that was built up in it. I grew up in a community like that and it was fantastic, I would like to think that that still exists outside of books.

As a personal trainer, this book seemed right up my alley and I was not disappointed! The action started on page one and continued until the last page. I read this book every free moment I had and finished it in just a few short days. I love quirky characters and Lisa Flyte fit the bill perfectly. Her relationship with Jack proves that sometimes your quirkiness is what might attract someone to you. Jack loved anything and everything about someone as over the top as Lisa, and i loved that about him. The more she did, the more he was drawn in. And Jack is the perfect man to put up with Lisa's drama. He had such a calming manner to him.
I loved the hiking, airplane jumps, and climbing, since I've done them myself, and the author wrote them very well. All supporting characters were on target and I loved how they interacted with Lisa. Great job in creating interesting characters and story lines. I cant tell you how many times i laughed out loud, especially at some of the lines jack threw at Lisa when she was losing it. Highly recommend if you want to feel alive, laugh, and take an adventurous ride!
I was sad when the book ended. Not just because I'd miss the characters, or the book itself, but because I will miss the way the book made me feel inside: Happy, and just full of laughs and smiles all day long. I plan on reading many more books by this author.

I really don't get how all the reviews of this book can be so positive and good. In my opinion, this book was awful, negative and it left me with a bad feeling everytime I put it down. Whether it was because the main character is treated so horribly by her own family, who take all her money and then still treat her like crap, or because her love interest is so clearly NOT interested in her at all. And if he is, he doesn't behave that way. If I were her, I would have given up on him. Letting a man treat you like that, letting him leave you all by yourself at the worst of times, is enough reason to kick him out of your life for good. So far so good, I am just happy that I had enough willpower to finish this book, and move on to a book that's actually funny.

This is my review of the original title - She Likes It Rough. I saw it had a new title, and wanted to share my thoughts. (You'll like this book!)

If you like a chick lit type of story, you'll love this book. The first few lines will completely capture your imagination and make you ask the great question - what in the world is going to happen?! I love being carried along by a story, constantly wondering how the character is going to get out of THIS jam - and this book gives you that thrill.

It's a fun romp through the woods and into all kinds of adventures with a woman who is determined to stop being afraid. A fun read to get away from your own troubles.

This is a fun book. Lisa is completely bonkers and Jack is all rough and outdoorsy. It's a book about pushing yourself and overcoming your fears.

I dithered about the number of stars because a few bits were a bit too convenient (like the number of times she managed to be naked!) and Jack got a bit annoying at times. But the thing that swung it for me was the author's voice. This lady can write.
The narrative is deeply embedded in Lisa's point of view, but you can tell how Jack is feeling from what Lisa observes. That takes some skill to pull off. As far as I can tell, this is Geralyn Corcillo's first book. I'm looking forward to the next one.

I enjoyed this light-hearted romance. This well-written story held my interest start to finish. I found it refreshing for a romance to emphasize making one's own happiness just as much as looking for the right person to make you happy. Like a lot of Chick-Lit books, you have to suspend your disbelief in a few spots, but for this sweet book, I willingly did so. I also found it refreshing that the characters had real names, not cutesy stuff you often find in Chick-Lit - Lisa and Jack - the names based in reality makes the story just a bit better grounded. Some fun with lots of dogs and cats too - so how can you go wrong?

Sorry to be that person, but I already wrote and published my review on my blog, so you'll have to go here if you really care: https://t.co/uvgE4kKXYE :D The author saw it and liked it, so yay!

Short version: I liked it! A romance with a twist, just as I like them, a fun (well rounded) main character, and plenty of comedy. Add into the mix a great title (I like that it can be read as Miss Adventure or Misadventure) and lots of pop culture references (not that I got all of them, but it's a technique that I like) and it's a winner.

Fantastically funny

A clever and engaging story that had me laughing with tears! I've never felt the compulsion to not only write a review but to call my friends afterwards to tell them they must read a book...but here it is. I loved this book. The main character was goofy and brave, I just had to love her.
I particularly liked how some situations cropped back up later in the book for more laughs.

Great book

Very, very funny. It takes all the stupid things that people do and makes the world a better place to another level. I loved the characters and the story. I hope everyone reads this and gets as much out of it as I did. Thanks for making me feel good about myself. This author rocks!!!

AMAZING! Really I can see why this book won it's awards. It's funny as all get out and has a great plot line. And the main girl, she is amazing and has nothing but a kind soul. This whole story she becomes a stronger person. Even Jack overcame a lot. This was remarkable. I really can't say enough about this story. I would recommend it to everyone. What a great read.

MISS ADVENTURE is hilarious and much, much more than that--smart, moving and sweet. You'll love Corcillo's wit, humanity and wisdom about love-falling into into it-- learning to follow where it leads us--and maybe the hardest of all--figuring out how to love ourselves.

I didn't want to put this book down, it was interesting and full of twist and turns. The characters are relatable and the story is incredibly well written. What an awful family she has, would have liked to see her stand up to them.

I really wanted to like this book, but from jump, I did not like the male lead. So I figured I would just wait it out and keep reading. So I did.

And then he literally never gives the heroine credit for any of the scary things she’s trying with him and treats her like a burden even though she is putting herself in danger testing supplies for his company for free. So I waited and kept reading.

Then he kept telling her she was selfish. Why? Hard to say. I couldn’t really follow his logic. So I waited and kept reading.

Then he made her feel ashamed that she got a settlement from the restaurant that put her in a coma at the beginning of the book, making it seem like because she had her medical bills paid for, she deserved nothing. And it was her fault her parents (who get NO comeuppance in the book btw) stole 4 mil from her because she lets them walk all over her. But I waited and kept reading.

Then he had sex with her and treated her like shit afterwards. Then he continued to have sex with her and continued to treat her like shit. Then when she is put in the middle of a media frenzy that loses her her job and humiliates her over and over, he ignores her calls after telling her the day before he wants to be her boyfriend. Then he shows up and says he wants to keep banging but not to be in a relationship and that he wishes they had never become more than sex. Then he makes fun of her when she tells him she loves him. Then when she tells him she can’t consider taking him back because he didn’t apologetic, he shrugs and leaves.

He tells her over and over that she should stop making everything about herself, that she’s selfish and spoiled. Selfish when all she uses her millions for is to buy nice bedspreads and then works for minimum wage to save a community center. Spoiled when she buys a shitty house to save 12 animals who are about to be destroyed. HE calls HER spoiled and selfish when his parents are gazillionaires, and he doesn’t deign to consider her relationship material until she talks to his driver (but she’s the spoiled one) because now he knows she’s not just some rich asshole…despite the fact that in all their time together, she never behaves like a rich asshole once. When he is trying to woo her to be his girlfriend instead of just his fuck buddy, this is his argument:

“He doesn’t move. ‘We come up with so many reasons for not being together.’ ‘We?’ The word rips through every other feeling raging around inside me. ‘All the reasons we come up with?’ ‘Yes.’ ‘You mean you have reasons,’ I say, making sure he is clear on this. ‘You thought about us and decided against me.’ His voice is quiet. ‘Yes.’ I stand up much taller. ‘But tonight I finally passed muster when I talked to Chick. Lucky me.’ ‘Give me a break, Lisa. We’re nothing alike. Nothing. And you can be so clueless and selfish. It took me a while, but I got here.’”

So in the process of telling her he wants to be with her, he continues to talk about how clueless and selfish she is WHEN SHE HAS DONE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DESERVE IT. And this is not a mistaken first impression. This is 75% into the book.

Then after leaving her to handle the scandal his mother created, after trying to convince her to be his fuck buddy again instead of his girlfriend, after making fun of her for saying she’s in love with him, he…calls a press conference and tells the world he’s sorry and he loves her. Ummmm, swoon? Eff this guy.

Also, I tried to give the author some leniency because this was written in 2014, but even 10 years ago we knew better than to continue to refer to a community center for disadvantage youths “ghetto centers,” and we also knew not to make an entire plot line about how everyone assumes the heroine is disabled because she wears a helmet and dances funny. WHO GREENLIT THIS??

You all have to know how much I totally heart both the books and personality of this author, whose work is always incredibly beautiful and yet full of energy, twists and over the top comedy (see previous posts on Geralyn here ), and so I am gutted I never got to this before, a book about Lisa Flyte, possibly one of my most stand-outish, brilliantly done characters ever.

Lisa, on waking up as a millionaire from a coma after a drive thru nearly crushed her car (which the media had a field day with), decides things have to change- she’s been afraid of life for too long and wants to woman up. And how better to help her than Jack Hawkins, an adrenaline junkie who scales mountains and scuba dives in his sleep. I loved the way the two of them met, and loved Jack’s indifferent attitude to everything and bemusement at her and her constant references to film, which at times were so spot on I almost jumped about! When he asks Lisa to help test adventure gear for beginners and we get in depth look at various equipment and techniques, I literally hung on every-single-word. The comedy was top notch, as were the smile out loud moments and wonderful, wonderful romance, that wasn’t always obvious but that made you suddenly put a hand to your heart and inhale. A special moment for her awful family who were like something out of a Roald Dahl novel! All in all just such a special book and again, one that is ridiculously highly recommended!
