FRINGE meets CASTLE in this New Adult Sci-fi Mystery Suspense.
College girl meets boy online. A killer targets girls like her. She's next on the list. The boy wants to save her. She thinks it's him.
It's worse than they both think.
RUN RUN RUN is the first part of a three part episode - Gingerbread Man - in the romantic suspense series, A Nursery Rhyme Suspense by Amazon best-selling author Lee Strauss.
Episode release dates:
Run Run Run - December 31 As Fast As You Can - January 7 You Can't Catch Me - January 14
Different than I expected going into it. Didn't realize there would be a paranormal element although I started to see it coming when things didn't add up quite right. I began guessing what was happening. It was driving me nuts that Marlow and Teagan kept missing each other! Definitely intrigued by the mystery of wondering who the psycho rapist/killer is. Shorter stories are harder for me to really get invested in. Will probably enjoy it more once I get to read the next two installments.
*I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review*
Teagan and Sage have been best friends since the 5th grade and they are now college roommates at Detroit University. Teagan is an artist who meets a guy online, Marlow, a self-proclaimed geek. Sage gets her to hang out with some friends one night and she meets a good-looking guy from one of her classes, Jake Wentworth. Pretty soon a rapist is loose on campus and Marlow starts saying things that make Teagan start to suspect him of being the rapist. Is he or is something else going on?
The story is told from four points of view: Teagan, Sage, Marlow and the predator. It drew me in right away and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to find out what was going to happen next. I think I know what's happening but Lee Strauss is great at twisting her stories so that I don't see the ending coming.
I haven't watched FRINGE or CASTLE but I loved this suspenseful episode of Lee Strauss's new series! The bad news for me is that I need to wait a few more weeks to read more. The good news is that I only need to wait a few more weeks to read more so, even though it ends in a cliffhanger, I will soon be able to read the second installment!
Content: Since this is a novel about a predator/killer, there are rape and assault scenes, but they're not graphic.
I received a copy of this book to review. My opinion is 100% my own.
Never having watched FRINGE or CASTLE, I wasn't sure what to expect with RUN RUN RUN. As I was reading I realized several parts were not lining up and I was getting a bit confused. Where was Strauss going with the story? Would it all come together in the end? And let me tell you...I was pleasantly surprised with the ending, even though it ended in a cliffhanger. And I am perfectly fine with cliffhangers. It made the book that much more, at least in my opinion.
I really cannot go much more into this review without giving huge parts away. Just know that once you get to the end, you will be ready for more and absolutely needing more. All in a very good way. I cannot wait to see what comes of this fascinating novella series. It really had me hooked all the way through.
I received a copy of this novel from the author for an honest review.
My brain cannot contain my excitement right now!! I need the next installment now!! I have soo many questions that need answered.
The description for this book is spot on. I truly felt like this was an episode of Fringe the only thing missing was the Observer. The story follows two college students at Detroit University, who connect in a online chat room. The two establish a friendship online that quickly has the reader questioning, WHAT IS GOING ON, after events just don't add up. Meanwhile, The "Gingerbread Man" is creating a panic on campus stalking/ murdering his prey.
Oh, if only I truly had the power to reveal spoilers! Just read it!!!
Wow! A great beginning to the serial novel! I loved how there were hints to what was going on, but it wasn't obvious. So interesting and the ending is crazy and makes me really want to read the next part.
A college girl meets a boy online, but a killer is targeting her. She really feels it's him, but is it? Have to keep reading to the end because it's impossible to put it down without finding out the end. A great mystery/suspense. Love it
This book was very good, believable even though it is fiction it really could happen. I loved the characters and the story line. I love Lee Strauss' writing.
Teagan and Sage have been best friends forever and now they're college roommates. Their friendship has withstood their very different personalities but the freewheeling college atmosphere is adding more than a little stress to Teagan's life. Shy and insecure, she is drawn to the world of chat rooms because they're safe. After all, she may never actually meet the guy she's talking to so Marlow seems to be the ideal "date".
When a rape occurs on campus, Teagan begins to think something is not quite right about Marlow. Is she overthinking things? Perhaps, but then a second rape occurs and this time it's worse. Imagine, then, the fear when Teagan realizes that she may be a target. Both Teagan and Marlowe are even more puzzled by the weirdness that's happening in their online and face-to-face relationship, with a hint that something more than what we consider normal may be happening.
Multiple points of view can be irritating but they work very well in this case, adding to the confusion of just who each of the four narrators (Teagan, Marlow, Sage and the rapist) might be. From one chapter to the next, I was baffled by what the truth might ultimately turn out to be. I was also baffled by a couple of plot points. First, I don't understand why Teagan would be so shocked, in today's college world, that rape can happen. She behaves as though such a thing has never happened before and most especially not at Detroit University. Detroit? There aren't many cities that have a higher crime rate so her reaction is just not rational. The other thing that had me shaking my head was Teagan's mother asking her to meet at a coffee shop across campus after dark. Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't question that but the mother has come to the campus because she's afraid for Teagan to travel home alone for the holidays. Why would she expose her daughter to the dangers of crossing the campus alone at night?
After a massive cliffhanger, I'm just going to have to wait but, having read other books by Ms. Strauss, I have no doubt answers will come in the next two books. A lot has been packed into this novella and I'm sure a lot more is coming.
It was awesome!! Loved it! I by mistake read the second book in the series before this. So there were some things which confused me had been cleared after reading this. So I liked Marlow but now I adore him! He is cute and the plot is amazing. Marlow jumping between the parallel worlds was cool and how he found about the Gingerbreadman. I got to know Teagan and Sage. I was intimidated with the no. of chapters but when I knew it was about Marlow and about what I mssed in second book I got excited. But when I started reading I was hooked and flew through the chapters. Suspense and mystery with some element of sci-fi makes this book a fav read of mine. Got the book in exchange of an honest review.
This isn't a story, it's a couple of chapters left with non-ending. The plot as far as it went was promising, however parting it out in installments, and calling them episodes is just an insult to the reader. Write and publish the whole damn book, or find another vocation. There are very few things that make me more irate than an author who believes they are enticing the reader with an unfinished script. Im not enticed, anxious to read the next book, or interested in an author that cant bring her supposedly self contained book to a conclusion. I will NEVER recommend this book or author.
Kindle Unlimited, but I received it free somewhere for the first 2 then went on to KU to get the A Nursery Rhyme Suspense - Books 1-3: A Marlow and Sage Mystery Thriller set which include Gingerbread Man then Picked up A Nursery Rhyme Suspense - Books 1-3: A Marlow and Sage Mystery Thriller set from KU so GingerBread Man, Life is But a Dream, Hickory Dictory Dock, and also Twinkle Little Star: A Marlow and Sage Mystery Thriller (A Nursery Rhyme Suspense Book 4) and read this one as well. I Spy with My Little Eye is short story with these characters, what was only available to her subscribers.
Nursery Rhyme Suspense collection, Clockwise Collection, The Perception Trilogy, and others.
For being the first part of a three part story, I thought it was great! It kept me interested throughout and I couldn't put it down...even when I had a very strong inkling I knew what the ending of this section would be.
The main characters, and even most of the secondary ones, were fun and likable...with the exception of the Gingerbread man obviously.
I think is a great little story to read, while it's free, to decide if you want to get the collection set. If it's anything as good as this novella I'd definitely recommend it.
This would have been a 4 star rating if not for the last 10%(ish). I was kept guessing right up until the end and then some... because I never got the answers I wanted the most. Of course that's the entire point because now I'm going to have to buy the next book. I MUST KNOW. Despite not giving this first book a very high rating I still want to read the next part.
I'll do a review once I've read all three parts because they're pretty short.
I loved the suspense and following the thinking of Sage and Marlow. I won't summarize since others have already done that. Moving from realm to realm was confusing sometimes. Wondering who was responsible for the attacks was a challenge. Marlow will do anything to try to save the life of Teagan. Lee Strauss gave me this book and asked me to review it. If you like young adult main characters and mysteries, you will enjoy this, I promise.
I am a huge fan of Fringe and combine that with the fact that the title of these episodes are base on a nursery rhyme, I had to buy it. I loved it! It is fast paced and it has just enough romance along with mystery and mind boggling science fiction elements. I've already pre-ordered the next episode. I would defiantly recommend this for anyone craving suspense or sci/fi.
I was definitely surprised by Run Run Run. The story was much darker as to the crazy guy on campus' backstory and I don't really read anything with sci-fi to it but the story has me hooked. I gotta say that Teagan frustrated me though, she came off as kinda flighty sometimes but I loved geeky Marlow and they were cute together. I can't wait to find out what happens next!
I couldn't put the book down once I started reading. It has a nicely paced build up of suspense and is a great page turner. It really caught me off guard as the story began to reveal what was happening. I thought I was onto the real deal, but this book has great twist and turns. Moving on to the next book immediately! =)
All the clues are there, but until you get to the end you don't understand them. Except - the end leaves you hanging! Teagan, Marlow, Sage - who is who and who IS the Gingerbread Man? Great story, now I need the next one!
