From the national bestselling author of Well Read, Then Dead comes the second mystery featuring Sassy Cabot and Bridgy Mayfield, who bring Fort Myers Beach, Florida, residents plenty of sinful treats and killer reads at their bookstore café, Read ’Em and Eat.

Happy to help her fellow bibliophiles, Sassy visits the local library with book donations for their annual fundraising sale. Unfortunately, the welcoming readers’ haven is in turmoil as an argument erupts between an ornery patron and new staff member, Tanya Lipscombe—also known as “Tanya Trouble.” She may lack people skills, but everyone is shocked when she’s later found murdered in her own hot tub.

The man last seen arguing with Tanya is soon arrested. But Alan Mersky, a veteran with PTSD, happens to be the brother of Sassy’s former boss—and he’s no murderer. Now it’s up to Sassy and Bridgy to clear Alan’s name and make sure the real killer gets booked.

Includes a recipe for Miss Marple scones!

Are y'all ready for another heartwarming and exciting visit to Ft. Myers Beach, Florida? Sassy Cabot and Bridgy Mayfield co-own a Bookstore Cafe, Read Em and Eat, which caters to both town regulars and tourists. Bridgy's Aunt Ophie, owns a nearby shop, Treasure Trove, and she's quite a character--there's never a dull moment when Ophie's around! Warmhearted and attentive Miguel, is the main chef at the cafe....a fabulous cook....who dotes on his precious Maine Coon cat, Bow. When a library volunteer, Tanya Lipscome, wife of a wealthy businessman, is murdered while relaxing in their hot tub, a local veteran with PTSD, Alan Mersky, tops the list of suspects.
Amidst swirling lies and deception, Alan's family and friends strategize to defend his honor and expose the true killer. Full of intrigue and humor, Caught Read-Handed is an absorbing, pleasurable cozy mystery you're sure to enjoy. The characters in this series are truly memorable.

I received a complimentary ARC of this book from the author. This review is my own personal opinion and not influenced by anyone else.

Caught Read-Handed is the second book in the Read 'Em and Eat Mystery series.

A wonderful sequel to Well Read, Then Dead which won an Agatha for Best First Novel of 2014.

Sassy Cabot has culled the shelves in the Read 'Em and Eat bookstore/ cafe and has headed for the library to donate the books. As she enters, she notices Tanya Lipscome in an argument with Alan Mersky, a veteran with PTSD. A day or two later when the body of Lipsome is found in her hot tub, Alan becomes at prime suspect. Then when the limb that she was bludgeoned with matches a similar one in Mersky's car, he is arrested and committed to a hospital to determine his mental status.

Sassy soon learns that Alan is the brother of her former boss and feels the need to do a little personal investigating to clear his name. Having learned that Lipscome was known as Tanya the Terrible she is sure that Alan had nothing to do with the murder.

The series has a wonderful cast of characters and most are back to help Sassy and Bridgy. Jocelyn Kendell is back once again exhibiting her ability to open mouth and insert foot. Her husband, Pastor John, is back and helps Sassy along with other veterans in area that have problems similar to Alan's'. Miguel, their cook at the cafe is back to plate up comfort foods when so badly needed. And of course Aunt Ophelia is back once again to provide some humor and light moments.

Will definitely be watching for the next book in this sunny series.

This is book two in the Read Em and Eat mystery series. I loved it! What a great read, and perfect for summer, as it takes place in Ft Myers Beach, Florida. Bridgy and Sassy are back, running their Café/Bookstore, and I would so much like to visit there! It is the perfect little restaurant, and the food sounds so delicious, and of course there is the book corner, where they have book groups, and you can do your own book shopping. Sassy gets herself involved trying to solve a murder for an old friend, and Bridgy of course joins her. This book is so much fun! I didn't want it to end, and I cant wait to see what these girls get themselves into in the next one!

Dollycas’s Thoughts

So excited to return to the Read ‘Em and Eat Café! Sassy, Bridgy, Ophie and Miguel are back! This time a library volunteer is killed and we quickly see she was not a very nice person so there should be plenty of suspects but the police quickly hone in on a homeless veteran with PTSD, a man that looks very much like Sassy’s old boss, George Mersky. Sassy contacts the man and finds out his brother, Alan is living in Florida. Sassy agrees to help the vet until his brother can get there to help. She enlists Bridgy to help her prove his innocence and find out who really killed “Tanya Trouble”.

Being back in Fort Myers Beach is like visiting old friends. Mary Sassafrass (“Sassy”) Cabot and Bridget (Bridgy) Mayfield are fabulous characters. They are girls after my own heart who love to read and eat and solve a mystery or two. Ophie is a hoot and now has her own consignment shop. Miguel is back where he belongs, in the kitchen creating such wonderful delights. Jocelyn Randall is the pastor’s wife is always putting her foot in her mouth and only on her best behavior when the dear pastor is nearby. Through Pastor John we meet a fantastic group of veterans that rally to help their friend who has been wrongly accused. There is also a huge character that truly gave me pause. It seems there is an anaconda on the loose and poor Miguel is terrified his beautiful cat Bow will become its lunch.

Terrie Farley Moran has written a fantastic story. The characters are engaging. I especially like the wide variety of interesting people from the vets, to the ones that make up the book groups to tourists and residents that just stop by for a book or a meal. She a created a wonderful place for them to gather and enveloped them in a mystery that is very entertaining and just pure fun to read.

As I stated in my review of Well Read, Then Dead, the Read ‘Em and Eat sounds like a perfect escape if you ask me. If it were a real place I would pack my bags and leave today!

The first book in this series, WELL READ, THEN DEAD, was one of my top three favorite first books in a new series in 2014. I devoured it. So, to say I have been looking forward to CAUGHT READ-HANDED, well, that doesn’t even come close to how much I’ve wanted to read this book. I have to say . . . it was worth the wait!

Author Terrie Farley Moran has done it again in the second installment of her Read ‘Em And Eat Mystery series. She has taken her gift of amazing story telling and lifted it to a whole new level. The murder mystery in this story was so well plotted, every page bringing clues and misleads. Ms. Moran kept the story fast moving and intriguing, make this book very hard to put down for any length of time. When the reveal came toward the end of the story, it was a real surprise. I never saw it coming!

I really did love my trip back to Fort Myers Beach, FL, and the time I spent at the Read ‘Em And Eat café with Sassy, Bridgy, Aunt Ophey, and the cast of supporting characters. Like my last visit, it was over far too soon, and I found myself back in the real world of DE looking forward to my next visit.

In the pages of this book, with every word, through every character, I could feel the author’s love for her series. Knowing that this story was penned with such care, made reading it even more enjoyable. Well done Ms. Moran. Brava!

Make sure to check out the back of the book for the yummy recipe for Miss Marple’s Orange Ice Scones by Karen Owen, and featured in CAUGHT READ-HANDED.

This is the second book in the Read'Em and Eat Mystery Series, and I found this book even more delightful and a must read for fans of the first, Well Read Then Dead,or just jumping into the pool of this series. Transplants, and BFF's Sassy and Bridgy from the one of the New York boroughs(as is the Author) and being who they are dive in to ownership of a sweet little restaurant in the heart of Fort Myers Beach with not only a delightful menu (as so many of us like to have a snack or two while reading a charming escapade such as CRH) not only are the characters becoming more well developed but so are the relationships and tangents reaching out to their former hometown. I always enjoy the inclusion of references to other writers, as well as the incorporation of teaching moments, in this case PTSD and Veterans supporting each other(although not in depth but certainly awareness raising).
I am not a big fan of getting into who the characters are other than the protagonists so I will spare you at no loss and let you get lured in to a wonderfully entertaining reunion with Sassy, Bridgy and the local characters yourself. Most reading journey's are best explored through one's own experience with them. Soooooo...when this book is available for purchase(or pre -purchase) get yourself a real treat of a read, it will be like a nice Sweet Tea on a scorching day to quench your thirst for enjoying and guessing whodunin Tanya Trouble, the screeching, harridan at the local library! Cheers!

A twenty-foot green anaconda is swimming around in Estero Bay, off Fort Meyers Beach, Florida. Naturally, the local residents are upset. The let-our-pets-be-safe-in-their-own-yards faction wants the predator killed. The save-all-of-Nature's-creatures faction wants it captured and shipped out-of-state. As if the weren't confusion and comedy enough, a wealthy woman is found dead in her hot tub. No, not of strangulation by snake; someone has bashed her over the head. Turns out, her developer husband was filing for divorce, her neighbors were suing over a swimming pool she wanted to install, her stepsons hated her, and she regularly fought with a homeless veteran when she volunteered at the local library. Now Sassy and Bridgy, the owners of local cafe Read 'Em and Eat, are involved in both a pet sitting effort and a hunt for a killer. The snake and the beachfront environment made this cozy mystery fun and the murder did not become obvious until quite late in the proceedings. Oh, and the heroines and the police are on pretty good terms too. Good fun for mystery lovers.

Sassy Cabot and Bridgy Mayfield co-own and run a busy bookstore/restaurant called Read 'Em and Eat. While donating books to the library, Sassy observes an altercation between volunteer Tanya Lipscome and homeless veteran Alan Mersky. Tanya is later murdered in her hot tub and Alan becomes the top suspect. And as a side story, chef Miguel is very concerned when a giant anaconda in the waters near Fort Myers Beach, Florida might pose a threat to his cat Bow. Sassy and Bridgy, along with Aunt Ophie, try to keep the peace and help the innocent in this story.

I enjoyed Aunt Ophie's antics in this nicely written, easy to read cozy mystery. The restaurant seems like a great place to eat and meet. I would be interested in other books by this author.

I received a free copy of this book in an author giveaway. This opinion is my own and not influenced by anyone.

A truly fun cozy with effervescent humor. The nasty wife of a local real estate mogul is found strangled in her hot-tub, and a veteran with PTSD who had tangled with her at the local library is suspected. Sassy, the owner of the local Read and Eat 'Em cafe, recognizes the vet as her former boss' brother, and engages in some amateur sleuthing , assisted by her co-owner and investigator, Bridgy, and Bridgy's outrageously frou-frou Aunt Ophelia. A loose water snake on a tear, furious pet-owners determined to shoot the snake, and fervent ecologists equally determined to protect it provide extra drama and humor. The book also has a serious subtext regarding the trauma experienced by returning veterans.

I was lucky to receive an advanced reading copy of Caught Read-Handed. I loved the first book in the series (Well-Read, Then Dead) and was anxious to read Book #2. I was not disappointed! I feel like I could be friends with the main characters, Sassy and Bridgy. Their restaurant/bookstore, Read 'Em and Eat, is someplace I would love to visit. I also loved the secondary part of the story--a green anaconda loose in Fort Meyers Beach and threatening all the small animals in town. I highly recommended this book!

Great book!!! Second in a series and now I have to wait to find out if there will be a third book. It takes place on Ft. Myers Beach, my neck of the woods and it's marvelous to read about home!! Ms. Moran has a quick wit and the characters jump off the page. I feel a real kinship with Aunt Ophie, Sassy and Bridgy and Miguel. Can't wait to read more about their wacky adventures and murder!!

Fort Myers Beach is your typical kitschy coastal resort town - but fun!! Fortunately I was there before it was annihilated by Hurricane Ian. These stories take place prior to the disaster.

Just a nice ordinary cozy mystery. I love Miguel and Bow, the cat. Bridge and Sassy (their names say it all) leave me cold. In this book I can guess they are in their mid twenties. Hard to believe when they giggle and use expressions like cray-cray, meanie, meanie, tangerine-y, Barry baby, to name just a few. Grow up ladies, you’re not 14 anymore!!

Another hanging thread that is an important piece of info never explained - how did X know where the veteran’s hidden hut was?

Now for my tirade - I can’t stand to read misinformation in a book and this author seems to have a knack for it. She is so familiar with Fort Myers and surroundings that I’m presuming she lives there. Regardless, her information is incorrect regarding snakes and Brazilian Peppers.

1) A Green Anaconda is an invasive species in Florida. It is harmful to the Everglades, as it kills small mammals for food. It grows to 30’ and is as dangerous as our infamous pythons. Neither snake can be shot. Florida has a law that requires them to be killed humanely. The book mentions taking their anaconda back to the Everglades, that is a big no no. Also, everyone is fearful their animals will be eaten, how about small children? That was never mentioned. Their solution was a great idea.

2) it is illegal to plant Brazilian Peppers in Florida. Why did Ophie plant one at her new home? It’s another invasive species.

Yep, after all this I’ll read Book#3 - perhaps just to find errors!!

I liked some of the first book in this series, and had hoped that the parts that annoyed me might come down in the second. Nope. If anything, they increased and I was just too irritated to continue.

The busybody aspect is a cozy staple. I get that. But it can be done in a less "hit-you-over-the-head" manner than it is here. These people don't even try to pretend that they are anything other than the nosiest parkers in the history of the world. Nor do they care how inappropriate that nosiness may be in a given situation. It felt mean to me, especially when Sassy is supposed to be someone they care about. It just didn't work for me.

I also didn't like Sassy's continued putting up with the bossing her around that her supposed best friend delivers. If I were Sassy, I would tell these people off in 5 minutes. She certainly does not live up to her name.

This series just became too annoying to me, and this is only book 2. I'm done here and moving on to something else.

This was a fun book. I really like the Read 'Em and Eat cafe - the decor and food sounds like such fun. The mystery was interesting and I really enjoyed how Bridgy helped Sassy get some clues. I like the characters and they are a little different from the stereotypical cozy characters. I also loved the hand and foot and cornhole references - the book may be set in south Florida but those went straight to my midwest heart!

Terrie Moran Farley has outdone herself, delivering ‘Caught Read-Handed’ as even better than the first book in the Read ‘Em and Eat Mystery series! Sassy and Bridgy, BFF’s, and Bridgy’s Aunt Ophie, are back. Ophie now has her own shop, Treasure Trove, just down the street from the Read ‘Em and Eat, a wonderfully unique cafe and bookstore where good reads and good eats go hand-in-hand. Try to keep the ketchup off of the pages, please….and don’t take sides against Jocelyn Kendall, a local pastor’s wife and member of the several reading groups!

The colorful cover art is inviting, showing the interior of the Read ‘Em and Eat, complete with bookshelves, tables, and Chef Extraordinaire Miguel’s beautiful Maine Coon cat, Bow just outside. Ms. Farley has designed the most eclectic bookstore and cafe that I would spend time at if it were in my neighborhood, with irresistible characters who are fun and feisty.

This reader was drawn into the mystery from the beginning. Mary “Sassy” Sassafras Cabot, at the library to donate some books, sees an interesting old Mustang outside that has in the front seat – a tree limb? Sassy thought the driver looked like her former boss from Brooklyn, George Mersky, but the disheveled man who turned to her when she called out George’s name only strongly resembled him. As she hefted the carton of books to the door, she heard a woman yelling and the man who resembled George scurried out the door mumbling. She learned he was one of the local homeless veterans who the library allowed computer use even without a library card or ID to allow them to work out their needs online. Tanya “Trouble”, wife of Barry Lipscome, the owner of Lipscome Builders, is a new volunteer at the library who has a few challenges with customer service. She disagreed with allowing some of the vets to use computers, and was rude to the man that Sassy saw. Learning the man’s name was Alan Mersky, she called her former boss and heard that he was indeed a relative. Sassy promised to try to find George Mersky’s brother who struggled with PTSD since his third tour of duty in Iraq.

A few evenings later, Tanya Lipscome was found murdered in her hot tub, with the murder weapon seemingly a tree limb. The tree limb was later found to be a match to the tree limb in Alan Mersky’s car, who became a person of interest when the police learned he was someone who might be angry at Tanya after she made the scene in the library. So George, his wife O’Mally and sister Regina were on a plane, heading to Fort Myers Beach, Florida to help Alan. It was all that Sassy could do to “not” get involved with finding another murderer, since – as everyone reminded her – she almost lost her own life when asking questions once before.

As if that wasn’t enough, Miguel was in a panic over the green anaconda spotted far from its home waters in Estero Bay. It could conceivably crush small animals, including pets roaming through their yards at the Bay. Miguel adored Bow, and was willing to do almost anything to keep his beloved cat safe!

The characters are fully developed; the conversations flow smoothly and complete. Actions and reactions are confident. It is clear that Sassy and Bridgy are long-time friends who would do almost anything for each other. They have been in town long enough to have many faithful customers and several good friends, among them Cady Stanton, the local newspaper reporter and Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Mantoni. Even Lieutenant Frank Anthony has a grudging respect for them, especially after seeing their intelligence and courage when ‘helping’ find a murderer. Each character has strengths and weaknesses that add to their 3-dimensional stature.

The plot is extremely well planned and thoroughly executed with no outstanding issues at the close of the story. The author’s descriptions bring each scene to life, and there are enough plot twists to keep the avid mystery fan tensely awake. While I did figure out who the killer was a step ahead of Sassy, I was not disappointed in any aspect of the mystery. The closing of this cozy has me already looking forward to the next one! I highly recommend ‘Caught Read-Handed’ to anyone who likes their mysteries tense and intelligent, yet fun! Those who enjoy ‘foodie’ mysteries and those based in Florida won’t want to miss it, either. And the green anaconda – well, you will have to read it and see!

Sassy and Bridgy are back! This time Sassy is hip deep in a murder mystery that has her welcoming her former boss and his family to Florida. When Sassy overhears a shouting match between a new library volunteer, socialite Tanya Lipscome, and a man that bears a striking resemblance to the boss she left back on the east coast, Sassy knows she has to make the call. George acknowledges that he has a brother with PTSD that manages to disappear from time-to-time. When the police department arrest George's brother, Alan, on a murder charge - his argument with Tanya at the library has the PD focusing on him as murderer numero uno when Tanya winds up dead - Sassy has no other option but to get George to Fort Myers Beach pronto.

Sometimes, it really is a small world that we all live in!!

I'm a huge fan of this cozy mystery series. Food + Books = Completeness.

Sassy and Bridgy are both very likable and interesting characters. Each has their own quirks and ways about them but they complement one another. Of course, Sassy's involvement in the search for the killer is noticed by local law enforcement officers Ryan Mantoni and Frank Anthony. As the mystery progresses and her involvement escalates, so does the frustration of Ryan and Frank. Speaking of Frank...I was really hoping for a bit of Frank and Sassy flirting and well, that part sort of fell flat. There wasn't really even any childish teasing between them to even hint that they liked each other, so maybe Sassy will be moving in a different direction in that regards.

There are several themes woven into this novel. Some are clearly not about the murder, such as the snake that has decided that Fort Myers Beach is a great vacation spot; lots of land, water, and local cuisine in the form of outdoor pets. Others could definitely pertain to the murder involving neighbors, stepchildren, husbands, and veterans with PTSD. The set up and execution (pun intended) of this murder mystery is done well. Red herrings are tossed about like the protest signs Aunt Ophie and her crew are using to support the local snake on vacation. The back story and set up included for this novel is well written - the reader is provided all the back story needed to understand the who's and why's without being so overly inundated with useless information that you forget what's important.

Overall, I was pretty satisfied with Caught Read-Handed and found it to be a smooth flowing, easy read. The novel is engaging and will pull the reader in right from the beginning. There aren't any slow areas and everything seems pretty consistent. I was unable to solidly identify the suspect until pretty close to the reveal, which in itself is fantastic. I'm extremely interested to see where the author goes next with Sassy & Bridgy. You never know what may happen in Fort Myers Beach, Florida.

This was one of those cozy mysteries that addresses a issue that is all to real . It was a heart felt and very touching edition to this series where your heart actually goes out to the murder suspect and inside your some how rooting for best friends, cafe owners of Read 'Em and Eat and ameteur sleuths Sassy Cabot and Bridgy Mayfield to find the real killer because it's just not possible that this person could have done it but could they?, It made me wonder and wanting to see how it would turn out.

Cafe owner of Read 'Em and Eat, Sassy is donating some books to the library for their annual fundraising sale, when an argument ensues between a visitor to the library and a library volunteer Tanya Lipscome, known around Fort Myers Beach, Florida as "Tanya Trouble" you know just by that name alone she is just what the name inplies , nothing but trouble and there seems to be nothing but trouble when Tanya is found murdered in her hot tub.

The visitor to the library is soon arrested and is charged with the murder of Tanya, a man that you will undoubtedly come to love and have a hard time seeing as a murder suspect, his name is Alan Mersky he's a war vet with Postraumatic Stress Disorder, who really has no grip on reality and my heart went out to him as i'm sure yours will too. He is also the brother of Sassy's former boss and when Sassy witnesses this argument between Alan and Tanya, Sassy makes a phone call to her former boss wondering if he was indeed him or a relation.

Being married to Tanya was not a picnic, her husband wanted out of the marriage and with two step sons and practically the whole town hating her there is no shortage of suspects that wanted "Tanya Trouble" dead. Being the spirited women that they are Sassy and Bridgy are ready to risk life and limb with a few life risking adventures mixed in to help save to save Alan, a man with a haunted past destroyed by war and a all to sweet and genuine soul.

With Heartfelt and touching characters, addressing a issue that is a terrible disorder that touches victims of the war, PTSD. This murder mystery strikes will strike a cord with your soul as it did mine and you will not forget anytime soon. Sassy and Bridgy are surely at their best being busy with Read 'Em and Eat organizing their book clubs, (witch I loved) and making sure that their customers were satisfied. Miguel the kitchen cook is one of my favorites and hope to see him more in future books in this series,he was another fun loving and very passionate character. Very eager to read the next book in this series.

Caught Read-Handed by Terrie Farley Moran
The Second Read 'Em and Eat Mystery

While dropping off a book donation at the local library Sassy sees a familiar face, but a closer look reveals it's not the man she thought it was, her former boss. Before she can continue into the library itself she hears a caterwauling, and the man rushes out of the library he had just entered. The carrying on came from a trouble making volunteer, who seems to be there only to placate her rich husband and give headaches to the librarian and patrons. However, when Tonya "Trouble" is found murdered the deputies zoom in on this homeless veteran who so recently had an altercation with her as a person of interest. Sassy can't believe this man, who looked haunted, not predatory, could possibly murder anyone, and when she discovers his name, she realizes he must be the brother of her former boss. With the real murderer still on the loose and a lawyer who seems more slimy than the giant anaconda threatening Bow and the small animals of Fort Meyers, Sassy and the gang at the Read 'Em and Eat Cafe delve into the thick of things once again!

The importance of friends, family, and community is at the heart of Caught Read-Handed. Joining together, despite differences, for the betterment of all can be seen not only with Sassy, Bridgy, and Aunt Ophie, but with Alan and his family, the group of veterans, and the whole of Fort Myers Beach. While delivering an entertaining mystery, Moran also touches on an important societal issue, military veterans suffering from PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder).

The subject of homeless veterans and PTSD is treated with respect. There is however, one error that I must mention. In a later part of the book we hear about the family visiting their relative, who is currently in a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, while he is in restraints. A patient would never be allowed to have visitors while in restraints, at least according to the mental hygiene laws in my state. I have to believe that the laws must be similar in this regard in Florida.

Although distracting for me, the above mentioned issue did not effect the story which presented as a well structured mystery filled with fun characters in an inviting location. The relationship between Miguel and Bow is wonderful and I look forward to reading what the future holds for everyone in Fort Myers Beach, Florida!

A bout of insomnia last night helped me to finish this, Caught Read-Handed, the second book in the A Read ‘Em and Eat Mystery Series. The mystery involves a local trophy wife who volunteers in the library amidst other extra-curricular activities. Sassy and Bridgy become involved in the case when the brother of Sassy’s ex-boss, a veteran with PTSD is accused of the crime. They track down clues, question suspects, and follow up on motives. While all this is going on they still have to run their bookshop cafe, run the book groups that meet there, host Sassy’s ex-boss who comes to town to help his brother, and deal with a wild life issue in the form of an anaconda on the loose.

A cozy slice of Florida life with murder and mystery!

The second book in the series. There are few places I would rather live than my Knoxville, Tennessee, but if the Read Them and Eat Café was an actual place, I’d want to live in Fort Myers Beach, Florida just so I could spend my days at the café.
In this second book in the series, Sassy, Bridgy and Miguel, who is back from recovering from a broken leg, are upset about a huge green anaconda swimming around in the neighborhood. Miguel is worried for his cat, Bow’s safety as are other pet owners.
So when the wife of one of the rich citizens is murdered, Sassy and Bridgy set out to find out who the killer is while Miguel fights to get the snake killed or caught and moved someplace else. Things really get serious in the murder investigation when the brother of Sassy’s old boss is charged with the murder. The brother, Alan is a war vet who is suffering from ptsd and lives in a hut along the beach. Sassy’s boss, George along with his wife O’Malley and his sister, Regina come to Florida to help find Alan a defense attorney and make sure he gets the help he needs. Along with Pastor John, who runs several veteran groups and a few other vets, Sassy and Bridgy try to help. What happens with the snake and the murder make for a fun and exciting read.
Terrie Farley Moran makes me want to visit Read ‘em and Eat just to sit and read the tops of the tables and enjoy the company of the many colorful patrons of the café. I can’t wait for the next book to come out.

Sassy sets out to help an accused murderer when she discovers that the accused is the brother of her former employer. But as usual she butts heads with Lieutenant Frank Anthony in her efforts to help which results in some of the most entertaining exchanges in the book. The two are quite opposite in character and so irritate each other greatly but I have a sneaking suspicion that they are attracted to each other. I'm eager to read future books in order to find out. I also thoroughly enjoyed Sassy's interactions with her other friends, especially Bridgy and the cafe. If a place like that existed where I live I can guarantee that I would spend a lot of time there. I also have thoroughly enjoyed the setting with the gorgeous sunsets and ocean breezes. The mystery itself was interesting as well with the victim being one that a number of people would want to dispose of but the evidence against the accused is pretty solid. I appreciated the fact that Sassy's efforts mostly focused on helping her friend deal with the challenges associated with having a family member accused. But Sassy keeps her eyes open and picks up several important clues as a result. This book is a great example of what I enjoy so much about cozy mysteries, great characters, awesome setting, and interesting mysteries.

This was a nice cozy mystery. I really enjoyed Sassy and her friends as characters. Sassy owns a little book themed restaurant with her best friend. Additionally, they have a funny cook who is obsessed with his cat in this book because there is a big snake on the loose.

The book takes place in Florida but it didn’t feel like what I was expecting for a Florida novel. I always imagine Florida being mostly retirees. There are retirees but also many younger characters as well. I have a whole new view of Florida after this book.

The mystery in the book was decent. I had it figured out pretty early on though. Also, it was not much of a page turner. I normally can finish a book like this in just two days but this one took me five days because I kept getting distracted by other things. I would read a chapter and then decide to check my email or my twitter etc.

I think my favorite part of the book was the accused veteran and everyone trying to help him. Veterans, especially those suffering from PTSD, are near and dear to my heart.

This was a decent read but I won’t be rushing to get other books in the series either. However, if I come upon them I will pick them up.

I might have enjoyed this more if I had read the first book in the series and gotten to know both Sassy and Bridgy (what a stupid name). As it was, I really didn't like Sassy and Bridgy wasn't present enough to get a read on her (pun intended). I liked the idea of the diner cum bookstore but they didn't actually sell any books though it was implied. Also they provided food for every free book club but again didn't appear to get paid for anything which had me wondering how they were making any money on the whole book part of the shop. For all the townsie stuff that was included in the book, I think more details about running the bookshop needed to be included to make it more realistic. There were plenty of details about the restaurant end of things but the bookshop didn't pull its own weight and that just didn't seem believable.

I was instantly drawn in by the characters, most especially Sassy and her spicy cook Miguel. While those two were my instant favorites, there were loads of interesting people populating this mystery. While they were both very different I really enjoyed the two main detectives, Ryan and Frank, and happen to think Frank could end up being a very interesting leading man.

The mystery was fun to ponder, especially as things were uncovered and there was many more reasonable suspects. The pace was perfect and things unfolded beautifully. In fact, I found myself staying up a bit later than usual so I could read a few more pages each night. There is even a recipe in the back for iced scones! I love scones.

You will want to make sure and grab this as well as the first part if you haven't already read it too.

DISCLOSURE: I only read half this book. And if I wouldn't have done that had I not spent 90 minutes on the treadmill attempting to atone for my turkey day binge. I just couldn't deal with all the cutesy crap - the character names (Sassy, Bridgy, Orphie), the dish names (Green Eggs and Ham, The Secret Garden Salad, Catcher in the Rye toast) and the nicknames (Tanya Trouble, Heap-a-Jeep). Then we have Aunt Orphie and her faux-southern crap like calling people "honey chile" and her overabundance of drama, and Miguel who is in love with is Maine Coon, Bow, and worried about an intruding green anaconda.

Halfway through, and I hate every character in this book and couldn't care less who killed the trophy wife. And I don't plan on reading the other book of hers on my shelf either.
