The Devil's Own

Kerry Bishop prepared for danger when she undertook a mission to rescue nine orphans from a war-ravaged country. Great series, I loved both very much. It took me forever to find the paperback for the second book in this series. I scouted many of Goodwills. Lol.

^^GUERRILLAS AND CHURCH PEOPLE!^^
3.5

This book contained two of Sandra Brown’s stories, and they both had a little something in common and also they are very much connected. Here is a checklist of the similarities:

- Virgins
-Church People
-Children
- War Torn Country
- Plus the well sought after “Bad Boy”

I have always been a huge fan of Sandra going on 13 years now, and I must say this book was a struggle for me. It was ok just not the best stuff, the stories were a recycled version of each other.

Led Astray
We have Jenny and Cage, Jenny is to be married to Cage’s younger brother Hal, but he always keeps putting of the wedding to fly to some country to save people. He is a missionary and she understands that he takes his work seriously. Her fiancé’s final night at home before heading off on a dangerous mission, she begs him to make love to her, but he refuses the offer. Jenny is left heartbroken and in tears, until her bedroom door opens again and her wish comes true.

All is not what it appears, Hal is killed and she finds comfort in the arms of Cage, and finally realizes the real reason she always kept away from him. Plus there are some very shocking moments that happen earlier on, and leads to shocking moments for Jenny.

This book offers up a good romance, bible thumping parents, and a trip to a real sketch country.

The Devil’s Own
Kerry Bishop is looking for a mercenary to get a job she needs done, so a quick dress up as prostitute, she heads to a cantina. She spots her target, reels him and is off to get nine orphans. They have to make it of a country ravaged by a civil war. It seems though Linc might look the part his far from a killer, and only cares for himself.

Kerry convinces Linc to help, and it then becomes a desperate struggle to keep himself, a crazy woman, and nine young ones safe. Only problem he wants Kerry something fierce, and she is a nun (so she says). Talk about forbidden territory, but Linc has never been good, so his thoughts always forgets she is a nun.

I must say I enjoyed the second story more, there was danger, and sexual tension galore, plus I enjoyed the children. We see Cage and jenny again in this book, and it just becomes a sweet story.

Not the best Sandra Brown. If you are looking to give her a try I say check out two of my faves,

Led Astray - Jenny Fletcher an orphan at 14 when her family died in a home gas explosion and was taken in by the local minister Bob and his wife Sarah. She was raised with their two sons Cage and Hal.

Cage was a wild child, and Hal was molded to become a minister, and it was assumed that Jenny would marry Hal. But Hal was more interested in his peace missions than anything else. Whilst on one of these missions he died. And Bob and Sarah clung to Jenny that she was unable to lead her own life, they were totally dependent on her.

Cage saw the signs and helped her to lead her own life, and it was this that led her to find it was Cage she loved all along. But getting Bob and Sarah to accept it wasn't going to be easy.

A soppy Romance with a happy ending. What's not to like? For some unknown reason I have always had a soft spot for these types of books.

The Devil's Own - Kerry Bishop has taken on the mission to rescue 9 orphans out of Monterico. She ends up recruiting Linc O'Neal who she thought was a mercenary but ended up being a famous photojournalist.

Getting the children safely to the rendezvous point through the jungle surrounded by rebel soldiers was no easy feat.

Cage met them at the rendezvous point in a plane to get them to safety, honoring his brother Hal's mission to help the war-torn country and its refugees.

When the children went to their adoptive parents, Linc couldn't leave. He realized he was in love with Kerry. The strong-willed stubborn woman he spent time with in the jungle.

A nice ending to the Series incorporating the Hendren Family and Hal's original mission. It also highlighted the plight and dangers people face in war-torn countries and the aftermath.

I like how the two stories fit together with Cage and Jenny. The second one was a bit harder to read with the dangers of the Monterico (Guatemala) jungles. But I love how the orphan children were rescued out of their fighting country and adopted in the United States.

Led Astray: This book was a simple read, as there was nothing special about this story. It had characters, a conflict and a resolution. The beginning excited me, as it was about a man who goes to help Mexicans cross the border and I thought because of the subject matter it would be an intense read. However, after that situation took place the novel fell into a love story with a strong sexual tone and it turned repetitive. It was a bit hard to get though because I knew each time i picked it up I would be reading the same thing over and over. I have never read a Sandra Brown novel before, so I may just not be used to her style of writing. But for anyone that has, they might enjoy this novel a bit more than I did.

I discovered Sandra Brown's crime/adventure books in May when I grabbed a Readaway audio book at the library ( Low Pressure) and then read a BUNCH of her other books over the summer and loved most of them...great summer/beach reads. I grabbed this one at a thrift shop Last week and realized these two connected novels are Romance stories and come to find out Sandra Brown has a whole career as a Romance novelist before her modern books. I haven't read romances since high school but these two stories were a great break from some pretty heavy stuff I am currently reading. Pretty good story line, clever how she connected them. Who knows, this might not be the last Romance novel I read, lol!

It says on the back "about unlikely love..." and boy are both of theses stories right on the mark for that. Both were good, I think I liked The Devil's Own better as it delt w/saving orphans from a war-torn country and that really appealled to me. I wish there had been more on that but it was balanced well enough.

This is kind of a set but you don't have to read them in order. Some interesting character's in both that make them both fun in different ways.

I really enjoyed reading led astray. It had a great story that kept me reading chapter after chapter as fast as I could to find out if cage would spill the beans on his secret. I thought the Devils own was ok, but I didn't enjoy it as much as led astray. I did however like how Jenny and cage we're apart of this book too.
I won this book as apart of the good reads giveaways.

When Jenny was very young was taken in by the Hendren Family. It was assumed that her and Hal would get married some day. But he died and then Cage the other brother tried to comfort her. He was different than Hal, so it was nice to see how the story unfolds, and they become so close.
