I recently purchased another copy of this book. This time an autographed hardcover edition by both Danny and Jack. Jack was my sociology professor in the 1980s and used this as one of his class texts. A fantastic professor, Jack challenged us to look and think deeper at what we see and how we interpret the various communities in which we live, work, and play. The book’s coverage of the New Orleans jazz scene is outstanding. Danny and Jack capture not just facts, but through oral histories share early generation jazz members perceptions of the evolution of jazz in the Crescent City.
