Mutants #3

Love, Lattes and Angel

Rate this book
Some teens go to the Caribbean on spring break. Piper goes to save the world.  Piper Dunn isn’t who you would call a normal teenager. For one thing, she doesn’t want anyone to know she was born with a blowhole. Even stranger, she has two love interests. Joel, a fellow dolphin-human hybrid, and Tyler, a human.  It’s hard to choose when a mad scientist is hot on Piper’s trail. Worse, she’s trapped in the Bermuda Triangle. And . . . wait for it . . . Angel, her test-tube daughter, is apparently a real-deal reincarnation. It all adds up to an impossible situation, with happy endings all but lost at sea. Unless, of course, a voodoo high priestess casts a spell or two . . .

“Love, Lattes and Angel” continues where the second book left off. Piper is with her grandfather, boyfriend, Tyler, Amy, Joel, and Angel—who is Piper and Joel’s biological daughter. The group believes they are safe but soon finds out they have been located again by a man who is determined to recapture the product of his lab experiment, Angel. She is a dolphin hybrid like Piper and Joel and is prized. The group splits up to escape, and Piper, Joel, and Angel take a strange trip through the Bermuda Triangle. They end up on an island where the religion of Vodou is practiced. I enjoyed the love triangle between Piper, Tyler, and Joel, and I’m glad this story clarifies who ends up with whom. I envy them as they swim so carefree in the ocean, especially Angel. My favorite part is the pet Angel ends up with, and the island they have found refuge on. An excellent conclusion to the Mutant Series that kept me up late toward the end as I wanted to see how it all played out. I can easily recommend it to YA readers and those who are young at heart.

I’ve been waiting for the final book in this engaging YA trilogy and it was a delight. All the characters I’ve grown to love are back again along with some new ones. There is plenty of danger as “dolps” Joel and Piper, along with their dolp daughter Angel and Piper’s boyfriend Tyler head to the Caribbean. If that combination of characters sounds a little complicated, it is. One of the threads I was eager to see play to a conclusion was the love triangle between Joel, Piper and Tyler. I’m completely satisfied how Ms. Cox wrapped things up.

The whole story is wonderful (there’s even voodoo magic and an unusual pet for Angel), but the last quarter of the book is especially gripping. Without giving anything away, let’s just say I was on the edge of my seat, eagerly flipping pages in my kindle to see how the climatic scenes played out. I loved the feel good ending! A YA read, this story, and the entire series, will appeal to young and old alike!

The third novel in this YA science fiction trilogy finds Piper, Joel, and Angel, their test tube baby, in the Caribbean trying to escape the clutches of Dr. Stranger and Craven. Will they finally be free of them, or will the pair find them? And ultimately, who will Piper choose? Will it be Tyler, or will it be Joel?

With them are Tyler, Gramps, and a few new characters (Molita and Mina) join in their adventures after Joel, Piper, and Angel land on one of the islands of Turks and Caicos after a violent night in the Bermuda Triangle. They become deeply involved with voudo (voodoo) through the suddenly growing Angel.

Don't expect the laws of physics or scientific principles in this series. The author plays fast and loose with science. There are a few misused words (TOO when it should have been TO), and the number of times the words WINK, GIGGLES, and CHUFF are used throughout the series? Well, it is a bit annoying, but maybe it is just me.

Good grief. Same crazy cast of characters except now add in voodoo, the Bermuda Triangle and a fast growing child.

This is a great book written by Sandra Cox. This book is part of the Mutants series. Piper Dunn isn’t your normal teenager. She is part dolphin and now has a mad scientist on her trail. She ends up getting trapped in the Bermuda Triangle. Can her and her test tube daughter, Angel make it out to safety? If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author.

**I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review**

I'm really torn on how I feel about this book. This is the first book I have read in this series, which was an issue because the book starts off right in the middle of the story, and assumes you know the entire story. By the end of the book I felt that I understood most of what was going on, but I still felt a bit confused. Another thing that bothered me was how suddenly the book would change tone. Sometimes it would be funny, then randomly it would be overly dramatic.

I love this series. This is book 3, and just as original, funny, exciting and charming as the first two. Now there's Angel in the mix, and my, what a character. She made me smile throughout the book.

I really recommend reading them in sequence, because the story picks up in one book where the previous one left off, and you would miss a lot of the background if you read as a stand alone.

Okay

It was disappointing and a little too predictable. The island magic was interesting, and it wouldn't surprise me if there was another book about Molita. However, I think I'm done with dolphin stories.
