The Vrix #2

The Delver

Rate this book
She is the dawn after a long, dark night, and he will make her his.

Urkot has always felt unappealing, undesirable. Unwanted. Scarred by war and lacking the grace and speed of other male vrix, he resigned himself to a life without a mate long ago and thought he was content with that fate.

Everything changed when he met Callie. Beautiful, passionate, fierce, clever Callie. So small, so soft. So human. When she looks at him, he feels worthy. Whole.

She captivates him, and his longing for her has made the stone around his hearts crack and crumble. Yet he dares not hope. What does he have to offer her? He is no hunter, no weaver, no leader. He is a simple delver.

Silently, he’s wanted, he’s craved, he’s yearned.

But as that silence becomes unbearable, and that need overwhelms him, Urkot’s world of cold stone and clinging darkness swallows him and Callie. If they are to survive, he must be her rock, her shield, and she must be his guiding light through the shadows. She must be his strength.

With ravenous creatures lurking around every bend and Urkot’s desire for Callie burning brighter than the sun, he knows only one thing—every moment with her is precious.

And he will not waste another.

We all need an 💎 Urkot 💎 in our lives~

I liked the plot of The Weaver more as well as both characters overall, but

This was just okay. While there was nothing glaringly bad about it, it was definitely my least favorite in this world.

- it was boring. Painfully so at times. They were trapped in the cave system WAY too long, and 70% of the book was just them walking, finding a den, talking about bioluminescent grubs, and then doing it all over again multiple times. I felt trapped in the cave system with them, it was just a book of them walking.

- the spiritwalkers were a HUGE missed opportunity to make the story more interesting. At first, it seemed like they were going to be just NPC monsters, but once Urkot/Callie found their dwelling/civilization, I thought there was going to be some depth to the new race of Vrix… maybe the MCs were going to be held prisoner and meet the spiritwalker leader and have to find a way to communicate. Maybe they were going to meet a long lost Thornskull delver who had absconded from the surface with his SpiritWalker mate. Maybe the Spiritwalkers are the actual origin species and the Shadowstalkers are the ones who stole THEIR dens.

But no. Despite seeing them with their broodlings and joking with each other in their echolocative language, they remained vague NPC monsters to the bitter end and added basically nothing to the story except for the same repeated action scene of them coming upon them and Urkot having to fight them off.

- this really just felt like Rekosh and Ahmya in a different font. I get that the authors clearly love forced proximity, but the “two lost characters finding their way home” thing only works if your characters are EXTREMELY interesting with some wicked tension, and your villain is actually something terrifying, which, unfortunately, these characters are not. Don’t get me wrong! I’m not saying the characters are bad, but you can’t simultaneously have the most sickeningly sweet and emotional romances AND enough tension to maintain an entire book with almost no side characters.

I REALLY hope Telok & Lacey aren’t isolated from everyone in their book. I cannot read this same plot again, and I really don’t want this series to be ruined for me 🥲

Urkot was precious and I loved him. He had oodles of trauma and poor self esteem and self worth. He was also protective, compassionate, and stoic. Callie was sunny, intelligent, and bold when she needed to be. Their story went faster than they might have anticipated because of their unintended adventure, but I enjoyed their closeness and trust in each other that came from that.

Spice: 3.5/5

Triggers: death, violence, gore, bugs, on page rape (MCs witness SA of stranger), cannibalism (not of humans), PTSD flashbacks, panic attacks, poor body image from past traumatic amputation, cleithrophobia, cave in, near drowning, claustrophobia, pregnancy, discussion of risks of childbirth and pregnancy, life threatening illness, grief

After not as lengthy a wait as we thought we'd have, Callie and Urkot's story is finally out, and it's...

...perfect. Just perfect.

It works both as a romance for these two, makes it unique from the other romances of this series/world, and is also perfect as the second book of a trilogy series.

We fast forward to slightly after the end of The Weaver, with Ahmya and Rekosh now together, and Callie and Urkot just eyeing each other like the choiciest pieces of meat on an otherwise empty table. Callie herself is holding back a bit because she's unsure about the whole "spider" thing, but is willing to make an exception for Urkot; and as for Urkot, he's head over hindquarters fallen for her already, but holds back because he considers himself "unworthy" because of the one less arm.

Thankfully, it doesn't take much or long in the story for both of them to move past this though, and decide to see where their relationship will go.

However and unfortunately though, flirtations are cut short by a cave-in, and thus their love story is punctuated by the need for survival underground as well. And that is where us claustrophobic people may want to take a step back, as most of the story happens underground, in near-or-absolute-darkness, and additionally has some scary (and I do mean this, scary, like they really freaked me out and made me feel like we were in an Alien movie or something, which is very ironic, the more I think about it....) close calls as well.

The only thing that I was kind of unsure about was those close calls, come to think of it. Taken out of context, if this wasn't an alien-romance book, then I'd be scoffing and telling Callie and Urkot to keep their hands off each other, cause God, their lives are constantly in danger, so where do they find the time for all those sexy scenes? Since we all know what genre and what author this is though, I knew those scenes wouldn't be cut short by a sudden attack or anything like that, but it just felt a bit random at times to have them feeling each other up out of nowhere, where only a few pages beforehand they were running for their lives or something.

Granted, that's not enough to take any stars off, but just something to keep in mind in the grand scheme of ranking things, you know?

Ahem, but anyway, all in all, this was a great story and really had me rooting for Callie and Urkot from start to finish! Once again, the setup for Telok and Lacey is huge, and I can't wait to see what the authors have planned for them! Look forward to The Hunter sometime next year, 2026!

Pre-read Review:

So, the cover's officially out on both the author's website and on Amazon and...honestly, it's...

...true to form for what I expected, with Callie and Urkot looking exactly as I thought they would! The only thing that kind of disappointed me was not seeing Callie in a lovely, silk dress, but then I realized that since Urkot is a delver, he wouldn't have those same skills as a weaver that Ketahn and Rekosh do. So...it makes sense, yeah? Regardless, I love how the subtle differences with him are there, like of course his missing arm, and also the fact that he's bulkier than Ketahn and of course the different hairstyle. It makes me have high expectations for Telok, especially since he was mentioned as having a lot of scars.

Let's cheer for our blue hero and our lovely sassy Callie, as we await their story early next year!

Once again, TR manages to make spider men sexy.

This story had a spooky element like The Descent. Monsters in caves are my horror fetish.

I admit I was a bit leery after how that one colonist died a few books ago (y’all know the one!)

There is off-page death that is discovered. There is on-page death as well.

The reason I’m taking a star off is for the fact that these two go at it while running for their lives but… eh… spider man smut. We get what we came for.

🌶️🌶️🌶️ 3 Spice

This is book two in The Vrix series, and honestly, it was pure joy to read! I think this one was even better than book one. The storyline felt stronger and more layered throughout, with truly heart-stopping moments that had me screaming in fear for the leads.

What really gets me with each book is the depth of the characters the way the authors make you see them, feel what they feel, and care so deeply for their struggles.

For me, Urkot was an absolutely amazing male lead. He was sweet but scarred, always trying to do his best yet never giving himself much self-worth, and that made my heart ache for him. He was so deeply lovely and tender, and together with Callie, the two of them completely sold this book for me. Their bond was beautiful and powerful.

I was totally blown away by this story the adventure, the risks, the romance all of it was top-tier. My only small issue was that, every now and then, I’d find myself drifting for a moment during a slower part, but that only happened two or three times. Otherwise, this was a brilliant read.

The spice was warm and satisfying enough to make your heart race but never so much that it took away from the story or emotion. The balance was perfect. I loved the love, start to finish it left me warm, tingling, and smiling like an idiot.

What I Liked:
Wonderfully detailed characters with rich backstories that never overwhelm.
Beautiful romance and heartwarming emotional depth, from love to friendship.
A great story and immersive world.
Brilliantly emotional from start to finish full of genuine heart.

What Didn’t Work for Me:
A few brief moments where I skimmed during slower sections.

Would I Recommend This Book?
YES so, so, so much yes!

Would I Reread?
Absolutely. I’d reread it again and again.

How I’d Sum It Up:
An amazing story with just the right amount of heat, overflowing with emotion and heart you’ll be completely blown away.

After reading about Ketahn x Ivy and Rekosh x Ahmya, I was very excited for this book. If you're looking for intense heroes that live and breathe for their women the second they lay eyes on them - these books are the way to go.

While Ketahn and Rekosh are very similar (which is just great bc I like their brand of passionate obsession and devotion very much), Urkot is definitely more of a big ol' softy. He's your insecure but sweet kinda hero and needs some encouragement from Callie to really pursue her. Personally, I prefer Ketahn and Rekosh-like heroes but that is not to say that Urkot was not delivering here!

Callie was great. Like the heroines in the books before she's emotionally intelligent and fair and overall likable. If you liked Ahmya and Ivy, I don't see why you wouldn't like Callie.

I'd say that this book was definitely more action-packed than the previous book which I didn't exactly love just bc I'm mainly here for the cutesy, OTT "I need you like I need air to breathe" kinda moments and sure, there were moments like that in here but not as intense and often as in the previous book and that was a bit of a bummer. I liked the balance between romance and action in The Weaver a lot more.

I'm very excited for the next (and final) book and I'm soooo not ready for this series to end but yeah, whatever, I guess I'll deal with that when the time comes.

I'm still hoping for a HEA for Cole too! Idk how that could happen since he's not into vrix and all the other humans are already coupled up but maaaaan... let there be a lost girl in the Tangle for Cole or something. 😭

Omg these Vrix males! I devoured this book. I just wanted to give Urkot a hug. Poor guy was suffering so much from his insecurities and trauma. Thankfully he had such amazing friends and a lovely lady that was ready to show him that he deserved to be loved.

I did not expect their adventure to go the way that it did. But I was hooked. Those creatures they encountered were terrifying. If I were in that situation they'd have known I was there because I would have immediately peed my pants the moment one of them showed up.

So excited for the last (insert crying sounds here) book!

This book follows Callie and Urkot's love story over the course of them surviving a cave in and making the dangerous trek back to the surface. I have to be honest, I didn't really feel the connection between these two. There wasn't much development to their romance. They already had feelings for each other. They just hadn't acted on them yet.

This book introduced an underground race of Vrix called Spiritstriders. We get to see their environment and get to know a couple of their cultural differences, but that's it. This felt like a missed opportunity to enrich the already established world. And still, we get no further information about the Thornskulls who our main characters are currently living amongst.

I tried going into this with lower expectations for the world building, but it still felt like a bit of a letdown.

2.5- low 3. Urkot and Callie are attracted to each other, but neither really make the first move. Callie decides to visit Urkot as he’s delving, there the cave sinks in and the both of them struggle to survive in the tunnels - it is only then that their relationship finally blossoms.

The book was… okay, very simple - plot is literally just the two of them trying to survive in the tunnels from the spirit striders. I liked the previous books but I wasn’t too keen on this one. It dragged on for me, they were stuck in the tunnels for basically all of the book... That and I wasn’t really a fan of Urkot and Callie as a couple. I did enjoy the exploration about the spirit striders and wish we got more lore about them specifically.

5 Fabulous🌟's for the Delver!💖🔥🌟

This was Urkot and Callie's story. Urkot a shadow stalker Delver he craves stone and brings it to life as well as goes deep into the caves underground to mine the crystals that serve as light sources for his people. He's lost many to cave in in the mines family and friends and blamed himself for not doing enough to save them . he lives with survivors guilt and he has panic attacks sometimes. The one person that is his shining light is the human Callie her beauty and strength guide him home each time he must leave the village he doesn't believe her worthy but wants the chance to show her how much he cares. Callie is a scientist a chemist to be exact who has a love of geology its beautiful rock and crystal formations. She doesn't miss earth beaches she never really fit in with her family or her work but with her friends and the Vrix . she feels more accepted and at home then at any other time in her life. Especially when she's with Urkot kind loving and strong she's wants to make him hers. As they grow closer Callie want to go to the mines with Urkot but that freaks him out totally because all he can think of is losing her in a cave in. She brings him lunch one afternoon. In the mines and the one thing he couldn't stand to happen strikes. The floor of the face gives way and some how Urkot shields Callie and then .and it in one piece to the bottom. But others do not fair as well. Urkot senses true danger and from that moment on it is a race to save their lives and find away back to the surface and all their loved ones. This book was terrific 🌟 the characters were well written and had lots of chemistry and the banter between then will make you smile even in the most dire of circumstances. Callie and Urkot find something truly special together and bring news of a scary enemy that is not just for children's nightmares. I can't wait to read the Hunter! Highly recommend🌟💖🔥🔥🌟💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟💖🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖

Book Name/Series: The Delver (The Vrix #2)
Author: Tiffany Roberts
Standalone?: Can be read as a standalone, but includes characters from other books.

4 Stars

My Opinion: I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It delivered everything I hope for in a Tiffany Roberts book with action, adventure, rich worldbuilding, and a romance that is as tender as it is intense. The writing was immersive and captivating, and I found myself getting completely lost in the storyline. On top of that, I absolutely adore the genuine and heartfelt connection between the hero and heroine that we’ve also seen between the other couples in this series, and I can’t wait to see how this author duo will bring the final couple together.

Hero: 5/5. Urkot is a delver and who has had a crush on Callie for a while but hasn’t had the courage to act on it due to his self-doubt which stems from past trauma and the loss of one of his arms in a war. He doesn’t believe he’s worthy of Callie or that he can properly protect her should the need arise. However, throughout the story he more than proves his strength and worth. He is an absolute sweetheart and is completely devoted to Callie. He was gentle, caring, and compassionate, and all he wanted was to care for her and make her happy. There was also a fierce and primal side to him though where he became borderline feral during one of the sex scenes, but also when it came to protecting her.
Heroine: 4/5. Callie was a strong and intelligent character, and she wasn’t afraid to speak her mind or go after Urkot once she realised that he was the one for her. I loved how she helped build him up by showing him how much she trusted him to care for and protect her, and by showing him how much she wanted him. I do wish she had found her “calling” like the other women in this series have, especially because she mentioned feeling lost in the beginning.

POV: 3rd person POV (Callie and Urkot).

Push/Pull:

Sadness: 1/5.

Explicit Sex and Spice Level: Yes. 3/5.

OW (Other Woman)/OM (Other Man) Drama: No.

Separation:

Cheating: No.

Closure/Ending: HEA.

Slow clap for this absolutely delightful couple. Tiffany Roberts’ skill at writing couples filled with consent, respect, love, and humor are unmet.
Easy to read and even easier to be wholly captured by this story. Excellent writing and world building. Absolutely recommend this to anyone who loves romance, fantasy, and some monsters thrown in.

Urkot is my favorite now

Bring on the sexy, muscley, spider daddy!!! Callie is all sassy and Urkot is all broody. Throw in some forced proximity and a dangerous cannibalistic cave Vrix population, and you've got yourself one heck of a book!!!!

Seriously, I could NOT put it down!!!

light read

I have continued reading this series because I really enjoy the Vrix world and world building. That said, the original core 3 books are still the best in that aspect.

I enjoyed the little bit of lore building in this one, but it was not explored as much as I would have preferred. It was mostly used as a mechanic to push the story along, which sucks because I would’ve loved to have read more about those inhabitants. I was really, really hoping to have that fleshed out more.

This book felt very much like The Weaver. Our two main protagonists are thrust into a life or death situation, and that forces them to confront their growing attraction for each other. But because they’re our protagonist, you never really fear for their lives so you need the story to be strong to keep you invested - but it wasn’t really. I like our characters together and individually, but their story felt a bit lacking.

All the Vrix males are very dominant in bed, always. Always. That isn’t my cup of tea. It’s especially infuriating when the human woman is controlling the pace to both their liking, but then the male explodes in burst of dominance and takes control - every single time. It’s annoying to me. Also, all the male/female couples are procreating. That’s true to both series I’ve read by Tiffany Robert’s. I’ve come to expect and dread it, but I love their concepts so I keep coming back for more.

Overall, I don’t regret reading The Delver. I love all the characters in this series and I’m happy they all get their happily ever after. I’m hoping Telok and Lacey’s story has some more juicy lore for me.

this one is much better then The Weaver.
The Weaver was "two teenagers fck without lore".

The Delver HAS it.
Lore, story, even horror a bit. Horror was interesting. The reason of it too.
We learned something new about this planet, about locals (if you can say so).
It wasn't just a porn with spiders,
but something closer to the golden beginning of this series with Ketahn and Ivy.

- I remember how in the golden trio was mentioned that this space program has a strict rules for everyone, how one girl even "cut" her fat and skin to be slim. Why is Callie on this cover with a huge belly? Like she's already pregnant. And why she's in green when she's always mentioned in blue...?

- I read in your note in the end of the book, that next one will be the last one.
I understand you make this books for woman, but you're losing an opportunity to make a Cole growth arc + give us more lore from the other side.

- I really hope the next one won't be "they were in danger alone, so why not to...".
For real. Book with Ahmya - virgin flower girl - could be such a courting slow burn...

Thanks to my local romance club for this book.
