Great series. But would have loved to read more action between melena and lucas.
She kept things from him for months and that is how they handled iT? Ending sucks tho.

The final novel (book 6) in the series will be out around October of this year.

There is only one word to describe the level this book is at.....unbeatable. Darkness Shatters is unstoppable! Action Packed, full of drama and excitement, and simply outstanding. This book is also the most emotional book in the series. I shit you not I all but went into a deep depression while reading this book, and not in a bad way! It only shows how invested I am in this series! I literally can NOT get enough!

Susan Illene does an incredible job with all of her books, but for me, Darkness Shatters is her masterpiece. She takes incredible writing to a whole other Level. From the characters, we've come to know and love, to this magical world she created, Illene is truely genius. I can not wait for book 6 to be available! I don't know what I am going to do until October 2015, because I have a craving for this series tht simply can't be sated by nothing else but another great book!

I would recommend this book to all lovers of Paranormal Romance and UF lovers as well!

What an ending, ladies and gents! Melena is in trouble... *grinning* ... and so is everybody else!

If you remember last book, Ariel forced Melena to keep silence about Micah, so for most of this book our girl is hopelessly watching Lucas fly from one end of the country to another, torturing bad guys in order to find out where his brother is being hidden. Lucas is suffering, Melena is suffering and as a result they spend very little time together.

At the same time, supernatural plague threatens to destroy some of Melena's dearest and most beloved people while there is frantic search around the globe for the cure. Lots and lots happens in this book, and this time the events affect all the supernatural community for years to come.

I know some people did not like the fact that there was so little interaction between Melena and Lucas, but whatever moments they stole together were some quality time. And by quality I mean HOT. *fans herself* I also enjoyed reading Lucas POV, and I especially loved that Melena's sensible actions prevented major schism between this couple which could have easily happened to a less levelheaded heroine.

Verdict? Very good, dynamic urban fantasy. Recommended, and I can't wait to see what happens next. Also, Kerbasi should get his own book. He is such a walking disaster, and yet I can't help but love him.

This book is a bit different because the POV (point of view) shifts between Melena and Lucas a bit. It's a bit difficult at first to switch gears, but at the same time it gives better insight into how Lucas's mind works. He may be a man of few words but his thoughts and emotions are many.

The scheme hatched in the last book plays out in this book. It is elaborate, dangerous, difficult and one big adventure.

A disease that has long plagued the earth pops up and infects many supernaturals.

This book reminds me of the tv show Supernatural because of how astonishingly the archangels behave. It seems like heaven needs a moral compass shoved up it's a**!

I listened to this in less than 2 days - most of it in a single day. This series is so good it is so easy to read through it (or listen through it) quickly!

Susan Illene wrote a great book. I have to say that Cris Dukehart was a good narrator in this book, but not the best. It was difficult to keep up with the changes between Melena and Lucas's POV.

Wanted to write a review because I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
The author is creative and gave us characters who are
like able. She pulled the reader all over the freaking place with surprising interest. Lilian has been kidnapped along with two children but you don’t know who the guilty party is.

Great book read that sparks conversation.

Melena

Plague outbreaks in the supernaturals. It is attributed to Melena 's father. They finally were able to capture and contain him. But couldn't find the cure for the plague. Plans for freeing the norou continue.

I really don't get why Hunter had to die... Well, maybe I do, because Mel maybe wouldn't give Emily her blood, but still it could be handled different way...

Truly mind-blowing! Honestly I cannot say eloquently enough how much I love this series and these characters. They are firmly in my top favourite urban fantasies and this instalment, well it is better than ever! This book covers a lot of ground and we close up quite a few of the story arcs that are opened in the previous few books, but never fear there are many more to go! In one way I feel like the whole series has been leading up to this book and I was curious to see where we were heading after this point. To say that this book ends on a cliff hanger is an understatement and I am not going to be waiting very patiently for the next!!

So where are we? Melena is currently bound to say nothing of her promise of help to Yerick, Micah and Ariel to Lucas. For the first time hear we get to hear from Lucas' point of view and I absolutely loved it. It made the story much more complete to hear his point of view and we get a closer look to the intensity of his feelings towards Melena. His chapters were wonderful and I feel like I know him a whole lot better now. This story opens with a strange new disease hitting the supernatural world and whilst this forms the central part to moving the story along we have all the stuff with the angels and nerou going on as well. Emily plays a very central role to this story and I loved that. I feel she is going to be crucial as she grows and there were developments I certainly wasn't expecting. Susan Illene certainly does not go softly with her characters this time round! Despite Melena's reservations about Yerick I really loved his character and hope we get to see more of him, from the ending of this book I think we will! The government begin to play a bigger role in the books now, working on Melena's earlier groundwork with Agent O'neill. I think this a very intriguing development and can't wait to see where this goes in future books. We also get to know some new and very exciting characters, partially introduced in earlier books and I can't wait to get to know them. Then of course there is Kerbasi. If you haven't read the Christmas short story in A Very Paranormal Holiday then please do because it gives fascinating inside into his character. For me Kerbasi provided much entertainment and laughs before but now he is seriously one of my favourite characters and he has my undivided attention any second he is on the page. I can't describe how excited I am about his future. How Susan managed to make him the most hated character in the series to one of the most loved I do not know. Sheer literacy magic is all I can say.

If you haven't read this author before you are seriously missing out on one of the best treats in urban fantasy, it doesn't get better than this I can assure you. I for one am seriously impatient to see what is in store for Melena next as I really wasn't expecting what happened at the end. It feels like all the characters were thrown in the air and thrown in new directions with explosive results. What a truly amazing book, this is story telling at it's absolute best. I LOVED it!

Much to my relief after several bad experiences with other series, Darkness Shatters is really good. Since Susan Illene only gives a bare minimum summary of past events, this isn’t really a standalone book and you need to read the previous books to follow this one. If you haven’t read the Sensor series yet, I envy you because this series was a great discovery. The ending of Darkness Shatters is somewhat of a cliffhanger, but it’s not too bad. The plot of this book is resolved, but the next book is definitely set up.

Darkness Shatters begins with Melena finding a sick werewolf in the woods near her house. The wolf has the bubonic plague, which has been altered to affect specific supernatural groups and to be very virulent. The plague ravages the Fairbanks supernaturals (including Emily, Hunter, and Hunter’s father) and begins to show up all over the world. The sensor group led by Melena’s super violent father developed the altered disease and so Melena, Lucas, and Homeland Security attack his compound. Ariel, Micah, and Yerik’s secret plan comes to fruition and all hell breaks loose.

Melena has been through a lot in the last few years and she’s gotten harder and more pragmatic. She’s still staunchly loyal to the people she loves, but she’s had to make tough decisions and accept her losses. Melena and Lucas are still a committed unit and they actually spend more time together in this book than in the prior few. I love that the all the characters (major and minor) evolve as a result of their experiences rather than staying static or becoming unrecognizable.

Book six is projected to come out in October, 2015 and may be the last book about Melena and Lucas. There is the possibility of a seventh book and there are some spinoff books planned.

Can't wait until the next book comes out in October!
This was a thoroughly enjoyable series! I really like Susan Illene's writing style; descriptive, but not on the ho-hum let's get on with it already. All 5 books could probably be read as a stand alone, but I would advise them to be read in order. While there is a bit of explanation of the previous history in each, it does not go into the depth of all that has passed before. There are explicit and graphic sexual passages in most of the series with book 1 being the exception, but it adds to the bond between our heroine and hero, Lucas and Melena.
I only gave this book a 4 1/2 star rating, because of the scattered story line, which, while easy to follow, if you've read the other 4 books, it seemed a bit hurried and rushed, and I would have liked to see Lucas and Melena have a bit more time together to develop their relationship while not battling plague, evil sensors, archangel, and fighting for their lives.
I did like that Lucas, finally, gave a bit of credit to Melena. He can be a sexist, full of himself chauvinistic ass, and although Melena is a strong, intelligent woman, I have to wonder that she tolerates him.
I hated Ariels punishment and that Hunter had to die...but I guess that is for another book.
However, things don't always turn out the way we'd like, but the characters evolve, and the ending wraps things up nicely.
I only wish we could have delved into Lucas' secrets a little more.

A strange illness starts to spread amongst the supernatural races and no-one knows how to stop it. Well, almost no-one. But in order to get the answers they need, Melena and the gang are going to have to do some truly amazing – and possibly stupid – things.

Secrets are about to come out, so if you’ve been waiting to find out what Yerik is up to and why, or how Lucas will react when he learns what Micah and Melena have been up to, then you won’t want to miss Darkness Shatters. As always, be prepared for the ups and downs; tears will fall, laughs will be had. I don’t know why, but it still surprises me every time that you run through a gamut of emotions with Susan's books. She’s a truly gifted writer.

So what’s to love about this book, besides the usual? Lucas. Okay, so maybe that is the usual but he’ll surprise you in this book and the scenes told from his perspective are some of my favourites. I love the way the character has grown since we first saw him. Not that Mel necessarily seeks to change him; she’s just been a good influence on him. The love between Lucas and Mel is really inspiring. They really are a cute couple… when they actually manage to find together.

Suggested Audience: Adult readers of Paranormal Romance
Perspective: First person
Profanity: Negligible
Sexual content: Occasional and explicit
Violence: Occasional and severe

Wow! I feel like my head just exploded with the ending in this one. So many twists and turns I didn't see coming, not to mention several bridges were burned! I will try to calm down and recover enough to give this the review it deserves.

First of all, Kerbasi has stolen the show in this book. How does Susan take such a horrible character and turn him into my favorite one? Mind. Blown. But seriously, he takes the cake in Darkness Shatters.

Second, I love the length of this book. It's longer than her others and really has several issues that are worked out through your the book, which I was thankful for. However, it wouldn't be a Sensor book without leaving us with a hell of a cliff-hanger, and lemme tell ya, it's a doozy!

I know I've said before this one or that one has been my favorite in the series, but honestly they each become my favorite because it just keeps getting better and better! In this one we get to see Lucas' POV quite a bit, which is new. I'd love to see more of that in her future books, and also think Kerbasi should have a spinoff series. I absolutely cannot wait for the next one in the series, especially after where Melena is left off!

Darkness Shatters begins when Melena and her friends learn about a strange sickness targeting paranormals. They know someone is behind it, but aren't sure who, and can not seem to figure out what the cure is either. All of this is happening along with Melena keeping secrets from Lucas that she didn't want to keep. Everything is coming to a head in this book, with lots of drama and more.

I really really liked this one! I loved how everything played out, and I cried in the end! Now I can not wait for the next one. This one had an awesome story line, I was hooked right from the start. And I loved seeing all of the characters, and getting to see more of Lucas' point of view as well. This book was super awesome, and a great addition to this series!

I have no idea what some reviewers are making a deal about the cliffhanger, its really not that earth shattering, in fact as cliffies go, its a minor one.
The author pretty much wraps up 99% of the story lines in this book and as such its action packed.

There is a sad event in this book and I must say that personally I found it be rather pointless( just kill off a character to add some spice).

Overall excellent read. I am not sure where the next book is going apart from starting off from the obvious cliffhanger. My suspicions are (seeing as the next one is the last one in the series) that we might finally get some insight into Lucas's past as that seems to be the only unresolved part.

I really enjoyed this latest installment of Susan Illene's Sensor series. Ms. Illene's world building is done well. This book is not stand alone, it builds heavily on the previous novels and really accomplishes gathering several loose ends and ending with a whole new trajectory. No spoilers here but I have to say the ending made me cry.

I also want to say that as a person born and raised in Alaska, Ms.Illene captures our state really well, I appreciate the reality of our state woven so well with the mythology that is the Sensor series.

Susan Illene does it again! I picked up this series thinking that it was completed and to my total dismay I find that I have to wait till October for the last book in this series to be released. I found this series to be a total page turner. I love a a strong, bad ass, female lead and she could not have been paired with a better male lead. I love the characters and the storyline and can't wait to see how it all wraps up.

I loved this book, its full of action and has a good storyline. I absolutely loved to read things from Lucas perspective and hope Susan Illene will do that in the next book too.
so I still have to say that her abilities on writing emotional scenes haven't improved. Sometimes even scoping the really good parts.

Also I have to say that her books always seem to end on bitter not, leavening me with feather a bad feeling..... but the story is worth it.

No new environments, few new characters, but a stronger sense of purpose. Our heroine is honest and fair, practical and brave. Even though I cried and cringed, I cheered too.
I always appreciate the author's different format and mythology. characters are realistic but also intelligent, what you would like to see in the world, making it better. great fantasy but also life affirming.
Solid installment, and I cannot wait for the next one... It's gonna be terrifying and hilarious, I'm sure.

Another fantastic book in the Sensor Series. Someone is infecting paranormals with a deadly plague and it is a race against time to find a cure. Kerbasi shows some compassion in this book, particularly when Emily gets sick.

The end is a bit of a surprise but I can't wait for more in this series to see what happens.

Stupid. I would really like it if Mel told the angels to go fuck themselves, they can only be in control if you let them. What a fucking joke. Now I have to wait for the next book to see what happens but what a shitty ending.
