Damn it, a man had his pride and a caribou a certain majestic presence, all of which could wind up ruined if he abased himself to play a simple-minded reindeer in the town’s Christmas parade.
No way was he wearing damned tinsel in his antlers.
Like hell was he sporting a red nose and pulling a sleigh.
But he changes his mind when he meets the woman in charge of the event.
Single mom, Crystal, is doing her best to offer her daughter the best Christmas ever. It’s their first in Kodiak Point, and she’s not about to let some vain jerk ruin it for her little girl.
If playing dirty is what it takes…then bring on the Christmas games. As Crystal and Kyle butt heads—and lips—they discover more than goodwill this holiday season. They’re gifted with a second chance at love.
Hello, my name is Eve Langlais and I am an International Bestselling author who loves to write hot romance, usually with werewolves, cyborgs or aliens .
I should warn you, I have a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing. While well known for my shifter stories, I am also extremely partial to aliens, the kind who like to abduct humans and then drive them insane...with pleasure. Or do you like something a little darker, more serious? Then check out my cyborgs whose battle with humanity have captivated readers worldwide.
Caribou’s Gift is book #3.5 in the Kodiak Point series by Eve Langlais. This is my very first Eve Langlais book and right about now I am wondering, why oh why did I wait so long!
Kyle is a Caribou shifter. He lives in Kodiak Point which is a community of all different kinds of shifters, all living under the protection of one alpha. It’s that time of year, time for the town’s epic Christmas parade, complete with Santa Claus on a sleigh pulled by eight reindeer and of course, Rudolph. The problem is, the reindeer that doubles for Rudolph has died of old age. So the children of the town will be disappointed. The town’s newest resident, Crystal, who is heading up the parade committee, has asked that Kyle shift and be Rudolph in the parade, complete with tinsel on his antlers and a bright red nose. Every man has his limits and wearing tinsel and a red nose is way over that limit. No way would he compromise his masculinity in such a way.
Crystal hasn’t been in Kodiak Point long. She wants to pay back the community that so readily took in she and her little daughter Gigi, by heading up the parade. But now her daughter will be so disappointed when they don’t have a Rudolph. And that stubborn Caribou shifter won’t do it. Crystal and Gigi are in Kodiak Point having fled an abusive relationship. She still sees the fear in Gigi’s eyes as she cowers from any raised voice or loud noise. She’ll do anything to put a smile back on her little girl’s face.
When Crystal and Kyle meet, sparks fly. But when Kyle meets little Gigi, hearts melt. This little girl decides that this huge, tattooed man is her Knight. My heart melted right along with Kyles and it took about two seconds for her to wrap Kyle right around her little finger.
This was just the cutest little story, filled with so many “awwww” moments, some spicy moments, and lots of humorous moments. Will Crystal finally find the safety and well-being she yearns for, for her and her daughter? Has Kyle finally met the woman that can make him think of someone else before himself? If you enjoy a cute, paranormal, shifter, Christmas romance, this one is definitely worth it to pick up. I loved it and will most definitely be looking into more by this author.
So cute! 4 Stars!!!! "Caribou's Gift" Kodiak Point Book 3.5 is by author Eve Langlais, an author I recently discovered. I love her books so far and this series is great. Full of suspense, mystery, and romance with hard and emotionally bruised heroes. However this book is lighter. A sweet Christmas story that gives a break to the drama going on in Kodiak Point.
Told in dual POV's
So as I was saying...in "Caribou's Gift" we revisit friends from the previous books; this one is lighthearted, humorous, romantic and a fun, sweet read. For the one hundred pages that is this cute story, we have none of the continuing drama that has been seen in prior books of the series. No explicit danger or drama. I will say there is a tiny bit of suspense toward the end, just enough to add to the story in an emotional way.
This sweet Christmas story features Kyle, a caribou shifter, and the woman he wants to make his. Crystal is a cougar shifter. To add even more sweetness to this book is Crystal's precious little daughter, Gigi.
As soon as Kyle and Crystal meet, sparks fly. Not all good either. Crystal is in charge of the town's Christmas parade and when Kyle refuses to play "Rudolph" red nose and all, Crystal is not happy. Of course Kyle tries to get back in her good graces except he still refuses to wear a red nose and have his antlers decorated. What follows is fun and romance and one determined Caribou to have his cougar. But not only does Kyle want Crystal, he realizes he wants Gigi too. Nothing is going to stop this sexy shifter from having his family!
Even though this was a short, quick read, I loved it. Eve's characters are well developed for a novella. I smiled, I teared up and I fell in love with little Gigi along the way. What's not to love? She was adorable. This was a great addition to the Kodiak Point Series even though it didn't have all the danger and suspense.
Take a self-satisfied shifter male, add one female with the need to give her daughter the perfect Christmas, and throw in an Alaskan shifter town to create Langlais’ fun, funny, and fantastically sizzling novella. This fast paced, quick read is perfect for any time of year. The dash of suspense kept me on my toes as an explosive romance built between the main characters. Langlais had me laughing from the first page.
Kyle’s fun loving exterior and wounded heart combine with his warrior self to create the ultimate hero for this novella. Even if he weren’t so drool-worthy, his personality would have me falling in love with him. The way that he thinks in ‘missions’ not only made me giggle but also gave a lot of insight into his personality. Crystal’s protective nature doesn’t negate her need for a mate, yet the way that we get to know her was so intriguing that I couldn’t help but want to know more. And the best surprise in this cast was a little wee one who had my heart in her had from the moment I met her. As much as Crystal and Kyle’s relationship had me swooning, this tale was about so much more than just them.
This novella is yet another fantastic addition to Langlais’ shifter world. It can be easily read on its own or as part of the Kodiak Point series, but it definitely must be read.
Crystal escaped an abusive relationship and plans to make a new life for her and her daughter in Kodiak Point. She wants to give her daughter a Christmas to remember and she’s not about to let a caribou shifter who thinks he’s too good to play Rudolf in the town parade stop her. She has no problem playing dirty to get what she wants but she didn’t expect the arrogant jerk to actually be charming and put her baby girl at ease for the first time in her short life. She’ll get him to don the red nose and then maybe she’ll keep him around on a more permanent basis.
Crystal and Kyle are adorable together. Each has felt the pain of betrayal and is not looking to go down that road again…which is exactly what happens when she tries to convince him to take the lead in the town Christmas parade. It’s a sweet romance that takes it’s time to develop (as much as one can in a novella) and the payoff gives you the warm and fuzzies. Add in Crystal’s ridiculously cute daughter that has Kyle wrapped around her little fingers and you have a sweet, heartwarming holiday read with just enough of a serious edge to make it a well-rounded story. - Stephanie
Kyle, a caribou shifter, and Crystal, a cougar shifter, fall in love when she asks him to be Rudolph in Kodiak’s annual Christmas pageant. He says no at first, then he melts like Olaf during a hot summer day when he meets her daughter Gigi.
The Good, The Bad and Everything In Between
-Cute, short, Christmas-y read: took me a couple of hours to read and it passed the time during car rides to finish my Christmas shopping. Yes, I was still finishing up. I procrastinate. It’s what I do. Ahem. *blinks* Anyway, seeing Kyle love and protect Crystal and Gigi, after Crystal’s last failed relationship with a horrible abusive a-hole, was cute, and funny, and exactly what I’ve come to expect from this series.
-Also, hot sex: because nothing says Christmas like sexy shifter sex.
-and a little Christmas miracle: the sweetest thing is the miracle of the Santa ornament - a nice holiday touch.
The Bottom Line (3.5 stars) A simple Christmas novella, with a little true love and hot sex. If you like shifter romances and looking for a quick holiday read, I’d recommend it.
Have it in Audio Love love Eve Langlais PNR books this is book 4 in the series love how this listen has it all a love story and a fun filled laugh of a book and a small child that will grab your heart Kyle and Crystal are the main characters and Crystal has a small girl. When Kyle find out that Rudolph has passed on the other side of the world and the Alpha of the town asks Kyle to take a place on Santa’s sled Kylie is ready to say no no . Kyle finds out that there is another in charge of the festival and putting the sledge team together is Crystal. Kyle asks who is Crystal and once he catches a glimpse of Crystal he says wowsy wow .
Crystal has a little problem her little girl believes in Santa. How will Crystal tell her no Santa this yr unless Kyle changes his mind. Will Kyle bring happiness to the little girl Logan again nailed it. He was perfect for this story
I'm really loving this new series by Eve Langlais. In Kodiak Point, Alaska, a clan of shifter lives together. All kinds of shifters. From bears to mooses (not meece!), walrus to foxes, there are all kinds living there. Caribou's Gift is a novella in the series, coming after Polar Bared, and takes a more light-hearted look at life in the town. It's Christmas time and Rudolph is needed for the town's Christmas parade because, sucks for the timing, the usually guy died. How rude and inconvenient! Crystal is new in town and running the parade, Kyle is one of the guys from the military unit we know of from previous books and he just happens to be a caribou shifter...perfect to play Rudolph. Except he says NO!
I love Eve's writing. I have done since the first book I ever read. There's not a book of hers I haven't enjoyed. I'm also blessed to copy edit for her too, which creates fangirl moments each time I get a new manuscript to play with. There's no bias in my reviews though due to that. I genuinely love all her work. Kodiak Point is a brilliant new series of hers and I can't wait for more. The characters are strong, fiesty and interact really well. Even the 'bad guy' (Gene) has a place here. Kyle is a computer wizz and wins the heart of Crystal's daughter, who has issues with strangers and men in particular. He wins her over and eventually her mum, too. A wonderful Christmassy novella for the silly season and a fab edition to the Kodiak Point family!
I got infected with the Christmas spirit early this year. This one is part of a collection of Christmas shifter stories I've had lying around for at least an year maybe more. And I swear it's one of the stupidest stories I've ever read but damn it was cute. And that last one is why I think something's wrong with me - I don't like cute! Sure I like romances but not cute romances, they usually make me gag! So I'm blaming this on the Christmas music blaring all around me. So go ahead and sing that with me: You know Boris and Travis, and Brody and Reid, Guys who kick butt and go to extremes. But do you recall, The most vain ex-soldier of all? Kyle, the technical specialist, Had a very impressive rack. And if you ever see it, Run if he screams "Attack!" All of his sworn enemies, Thought they could call him names, So he pinned them with his rack And made them scream until death came. Then one cold-ass Christmas Eve, Crystal came and said, "You pompous jerk, I hate your guts If you think I'll date you, then you're nuts." Kyle suddenly saw the light, And agreed to do what it would take. That's when he learned that playing a reindeer, Could result in some sensual games.
Missions to be completed Crystal and her daughter Gigi moved to Kodiak’s Point to get away from and Ex named Malcolm. Kyle is a Caribou asked to play Rudolph in the annual Christmas parade. He says no but waiver’s a little after meeting Crystal who is in charge of the parade. It’s the one thing her little girl is real looking forward to. Kyle meet Gigi by accident not knowing who her mother is and is instantly enchanted by this little slip of a girl. Now Kyle thinks of everything in terms of missions and one of them it to have Crystal. Another is to keep smiles on Gigi face. Lighthearted and funny, deadly, exciting and an all-around fabulous story.
Kyle had his pride, there was no way he was shifting into his Caribou form trussed up like a reindeer for the Christmas Day Parade. As Kyle pronounces his decision, he hopes to move onto his next activity which is seducing sexy bobcat shifter Crystal. Of course he didn't know the much needed reindeer in the parade was for her daughter and that the saucy minx would be sealing her fate to him in the near future.
Fun read. Kyle is adorable and he has a list making way about him that keeps him focused. As usual another fun filled read from Eve Langlais.
I read this book as a part of the Kiss of Christmas Magic Box set
Men have their pride.....you simply can't ask from a proud Caribou to play Ruddolf! But what happens when a hot sexy mom and a pretty little girl get into your life and asks you? ohhh my so much fun this story was! laughed real hard and enjoyed each page. All the characters were so fun to meet. an awesome heart warming christmas story!
Awesome!!! Kyle and Crystal rocked. Stubborn Kyle meets his match with Crystal and Gigi. Great story of helping Gigi, getting Crystal and smashing the bad guy!!! Can't wait for more in this series.
Cute short story of a confirmed bachelor meeting his match.
What I enjoyed: * Gigi was adorable * Seeing Kyle fall in love and willing to do anything (even play Rudolph) for Crystal and Gigi * The Santa surprise at the end was cute
What could have been better: * I wouldn't have minded a bit longer story as they went from strangers to in love and basically living together in a couple of days (and you'd think Crystal would be a bit more wary) * Crystal needed more time. I don't know much about her other than she is a good mother and had horrible taste in men,
This novella is one of my favorites and has all the trappings of a fun holiday story. There’s comedy, a villain, an adorable kiddo, one feisty mama, one vain caribou, and of course, Christmas magic!
In the spirit of Christmas, two people get something they weren't even looking for, but was exactly what they needed- family, home, love, trust, and support. They were such opposites at first that it was like oil and water. But when the fur settles, they both come out winners.
Kyle struts around with his 'I am an island' routine trying to protect his poor heart after his former fiance' trampled on it. There is no way he'll be the butt of anyone's laughter again even if it means playing Scrooge instead of Rudolf for the town Christmas Parade. Okay, well the new cougar shifter in town might persuade him, but in the end its the hopeful eyes of a sweet child that may be his downfall.
Crystal has made a string of poor decisions regarding men which brought her and her daughter to Kodiak Point. Everyone seems nice and its a good place to start over. Things are coming right along until she needs the help of the only guy in town who can give it and he's too stuck on himself to help out. Good thing too because if he had been nice she might have fallen for him. But uh-oh, he has made friends with her daughter bringing that scared little girl out of her shell and proving that there's more to him than she thought. Maybe she'll have to re-think that no men plan.
This one has some fun scenes and some lighter moments particularly when Kyle is with Crystal's little girl- sucker for the guy/little girl stuff particularly when he's protecting her from danger. However, this isn't as light as others in the serious moments with its painful elements of abuse and stalking. Not to worry, it doesn't go too dark. Now that being said, Kyle's got some swagger and game. He has no trouble making it clear too. Crystal doesn't really stand a chance when he figures out that he's ready to settle down and he's picked out her and her daughter to be his. Crystal is no push over though and she makes the cocky caribou nearly swallow his tongue a few times.
All in all, this fast little Christmas paranormal romance was engaging and a nice addition to the series though it can easily be read as a standalone.
My thanks to the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
I'm not usually a big fan of Christmas stories, but if it is part of series that I'm already reading, I'll usually read it. In this case, just reading the blurb would've gotten me to read. I mean, trying to get former military caribou shifter to play Rudolf in a Christmas parade, how funny is that?
That's not it, there is a story outside of the funny. Crystal is running from a controlling, stalker ex-boyfriend. She moved to Kodiak Point to hide from Malcom along with her young daughter, Gigi. Crystal is a cougar shifter and took on the job of putting together the Christmas parade. A few days before, one of the reindeer dies and they are down to only 8. Her daughter really wants to see Rudolf and Crystal is willing to do anything to make her daughter happy.
Kyle is former military. He is also the town's player. He has a smile that gets all the women's attention. He is very prideful and is willing to be punished by his alpha to avoid playing to be dumb animal. That is until he finds a scare little girl hiding in the barn. Oh, and this little girl belongs to the hot new cat in town that is the only woman who won't give him the time of day.
The romance is a little fast, especially considering that both Kyle and Crystal have issues. But this is novella, 100 pages, so you have to expect that. The story is really cute. Kyle's relationship with Gigi is great. The story also shows issues that happens with women and single mothers all the time. I had fun reading it.
While I love this series and highly recommend every book in this funny sexy shifter series, this book can be read as a stand alone. If you haven't started the series, feel free to read this Christmas story during the holidays, then go back and read the rest of the series.
As always, I'm smitten with Eve Langlais's sassy characters who have the inevitable steamy chemistry. Bonus points to a slightly off-kilter former soldier who finds himself unexpectedly adoring our heroine's little girl. It's hard to dislike a man who goes all growly and protective when his ladies are threatened. Especially when one of them is a traumatized child.
So. Crystal and Kyle. She's determined to give her daughter a Christmas to remember, he's determined to avoid playing Rudolph. I kinda loved Kyle's approach to getting things done. His "missions" were amusing and his glee at completing them made me grin. On Crystal's front, I can totally appreciate how she tried to give her daughter something good after the what they'd gone through.
I haven't read the other Kodiak Point books yet, but I'm pretty sure they're going to be in my future at some point. Because I like the setup and I like these shapeshifters in all their slightly insane glory. Eve Langlais books just make me smile. And that's excellent.
Read for Fun (Gift) Overall Rating: 4.50 Story Rating: 4.25 Character Rating: 4.75

Part of my Read It, Rate It, File It, DONE! reviews
My Status Updates:
3% "Mission #732: Improve my reputation as a badass so people don't make stupid requests <----he is so going to play a reindeer! :)"
35% "Poor Kyle doesn't stand a chance and I read just a wee bit past my lunch hour--whoops!"
Mission #732: Improve my reputation as a badass so people don’t make stupid requests.
Kyle is, to use a well-worn word, vain. Self-obsessed also works. Oh, and rabidly addicted to his man card, of course. So when he is asked to play Rudolph in the Christmas Parade, pulling Santa’s sleigh, well, he is highly insulted. Hum … I wonder how much insecurity there is in there along with the vanity.
Of course, when he meets precious little blond-haired, green-eyed Gigi, his outlook starts to change. Of course, her gorgeous, cougar shifter mum, Crystal, could have something to do with it. Then, when Crystal’s cruel, obsessive ex shows up, Kyle’s protective instincts slam into overdrive.
Caribou’s gift is another of Eve Langalis’ incredibly fun Kodiak Point series. Short, funny, fun. It is the perfect short read for a relaxing evening. How fun!
Sweet and very funny. Kyle's playboy ways come to an abrupt halt when he meets Crystal, the woman who thinks he's a conceited jerk. Crystal's been burnt too many times to waste a moment on a idiot like Kyle. It doesn't matter that he's seriously hot and built like a god. All she wants is to give her daughter the perfect Christmas parade. Gigi breaks through Kyle's barriers and opens his heart to thoughts of permanence and a family of his own. Too many laugh out loud moments to count, a bad guy that's vanquished and a ton of Christmas spirit with a bit of spice thrown in. Adult read
This was a great, quick holiday read. Not quite as skankalicious as some of Eve's other titles, but well, a single mother has to be stealthy about her sexy times.
Crystal is that single mother. She and her adorable daughter, Gigi, moved to Kodiak Point to avoid stalker ex-asshole Malcolm. While getting the Christmas parade whipped into shape, she meets & clashes with Kyle, the local Caribou who absolutely refuses to degrade himself by portraying Rudolph in the parade. Well, until he get's a peek at Crystal's rack and her adorable little munchkin.
Very cute (and sexy too!) Kodiak Point Christmas story. Kyle the caribou doesn't want to play Rudolph the Reindeer in the town's Christmas parade until he meets Crystal the cougar and her cute daughter Gigi. Lots of fun and laughter - it is a 5 of Christmas shifter stories.
It was a nice quick read. I needed some laughter and this made my evening I love that he kept comparing the rack. I like that crystal wasn't putty in hid hands and made him work for her. Gig was just cutest. love the love story
