This was a short book. It had a few short stories, all having to do with someone getting attacked or eaten by a great white shark. I picked this up at my local library, mostly because I' been craving a good shark story. These were adequate. While enjoyable, they were only so by reminding myself that they're just stories. I wasn't afraid, I was more saddened by the constant portrayal of the great white as a killer. I understand that the stories are just for fun and that a lot of people do want a good horror story, sharks are a good fear to have. Its just that there's so much more to sharks than eating people, especially when lightning strikes occur so much more often than actual shark attacks and killings. I would've liked for there to be a mix of stories where there are some horror elements and some stories that try to capture the beauty and intelligence of these creatures.

This was an interesting chapter book. But, this book was a little weird too. It was funny how each story within the book had a bad ending. If you are a person who likes sharks and the things that happen when you encounter them, you should like this book.

My dad bought this book for me in 3rd grade and I remember staying up late to finish it that night, then waking up early to re-read it. I remember the stories didn't have the happiest endings, to say the least, but I loved it as a kid! Seeing it now makes me want to read it again.

I am going through my children's books so I can donate them to the Friends of the Library since they are in need of children's books. This was a fun and easy read. If you have a child that enjoys animals or even scary stories this is a good choice for them.

This book contains 6 short stories by the author, each of them about great white sharks. I believe the book is aimed at kids but the stories are great for adults too (but realize most of the main characters are kids).. the stories sneak shark facts into them so you can learn while you read. There is blood and deaths of course..and lots of hungry sharks.

My favorite story was The Last Predator which combined revenge with conservation..an unusual combination.

There are a few black and white illustrations in the book..

A pretty scary but compelling collection of shark attack stories, the best of which is probably Shadow in the Waves. A bit odd that there's none about someone protesting shark culling.
PS Poor Helen Lane! I wince every time I see her injuries described and contrast with her introduction. Someone give that girl some fan art!
PPS Here’s hoping Sarah Miller realizes Catcher in the Rye stinks one day; Any dinosaur book including Mammoth Book of Dinosaurs is chocolotl to the poo that is Catcher in the Rye!

This book wasn’t anything special. Almost all the stories ended the same, so it was very predictable and boring. Some of the stories were really heartbreaking but I got over it. At least now I don’t ever want to go into an ocean, not that I live near one to go in…

I've enjoyed this collection of stories since I was a kid. They are simplistic and many follow the standard shark attack theme, but several are unique and interesting. Fun read.
